Deep Throat Not Deep No More

This has absolutely nothing to do with the usual stuff we talk about here, but since I ran for President at the time all this crap went down, I thought I would mention it.

W. Mark Felt, a former top FBI official during the Nixon administration, has admitted to being "Deep Throat" the insider informant who fed information to Washington Post reporters Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward during the Watergate days. For those old enough to remember, this was all detailed in the film All The President's Men, starring Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman.

The whole Watergate thing took down that crook Nixon. I would have been a much better President.

This old guy is about 91 and I think his kids decided he better cash in on the deal before he goes. For years, Woodward, Bernstein and former Post editor Ben Bradlee said they wouldn't reveal the secret until "Deep Throat" died, but with Felt outing himself, they've confirmed the story.

Not let them try to figure out who Mayor Sam is!

Breaking a Campaign Promise?

A fun little e-mail received via tip today...

Mayor Sam and friends,

It appears that someone got their hands on an autodialer (anyone know where Hal netkin is?) and started placing thousands of calls to CD 12 constituents this weekend. The calls refer to Greig Smiths' "breaking of his campaign promise" by caving in and renewing the contract for Sunshine Canyon and BFI. The calls also draw a "pay to play" link to Smith (who supported Hahn) via his Chief of Staff, Mitchell Englander, Nephew of Sunshine Canyon/BFI lobbyist Harvey Englander. (Waste Management pulled out of the bidding the day before the hearing raising many eyebrows in the
district)

These calls apparently sparked Mr Smiths' rapid exit from the Northridge Greek Festival where he was on display in his LAPD uniform. It also has sparked dozens of phone calls from various Smith minions trying to nail down the source of the calls.

In an interesting twist, the caller id of at least some of the calls indicate that the calls originated from a waste company in the 949 area code. Double-cross? A new contender for the CD 12 seat? Dunno but this should get interesting.

I want to also tell Mack Reed and Kevin Roderick that meeting them in person was funny since neither knew who I was when they shook my hand.

Mayor Sam - Chief Parker perhaps we crossed paths at some point I'll never know -- your identity has been a bigger mystery to Angelenos than mine ever was.

Lastly, I'd like to apologize to the following people -- people that this blog crucified for being me, but never were.

So to Ace Smith, Parke Skelton, Ulysses Sanchez, Michael Trujillo, Jaime Sanchez, Jimmy Blackman and Nathan James I apologize. Your names were always popping up as being me, but i never had the guts to actually "out" myself and clear the air for all you guys. For the record, and this will be the last time i ever write this again -- neither of the individuals named above have ever been MEAT.

Belated Congratulations to Bill Rosendahl

In the flurry of activity that occurred with the election of Antonio Villaraigosa for Mayor -- we forgot to congratulate Bill Rosendahl.

Congratulations Councilmember-elect Rosendahl -- our polling intelligence was correct in your victory.

Chief Parker apologizes for the oversight of not congratulating you -- you were my choice for Councilmember- please let me explain.

This old republican, well i don't live your lifestyle -- i do respect the fact that for year after year you had conservative republicans on your show whom you did not agree with -- but you sat there and let them have an honest open debate about our city, state and country.

You are the definition of a patriot - you truly love this country -- and because of that passion for civic life - i knew you would be an open honest agent of change.

Congratulations again -- the westside, LAX and the coastal areas thank you. They expect strong leadership, and we know you won't deny them.

Students Need The Stick

Following the recent rash of incidents of racial violence at a number of Los Angeles schools , one of our posters suggested that School Board President and Council District 14 candidate Jose Huizar go out to the campuses with a bullhorn and baseball bat in hand to "get those kids in order."

Of course, the poster is recalling images of former Paterson, New Jersey Eastside High School school principal, Joe Clark, who, back in the 1980s, was brought into save the failing high school with his hard nosed, no nonsense tactics. Within two years, the school was turned around and considered a model performer for the nation.

Clark was known for patrolling the campus with a baseball bat and bullhorn, for padlocking the entrances (to keep the criminals out and the students in) and for in one day expelling 300 students for various trangressions. Joe Clark was later portrayed by Morgan Freeman in the 1989 film Lean On Me.

Just this afternoon, Mayor-Elect Antonio Villaraigosa promised to wipe out racial violence. He plans to have expanded after-school programs and to send in crisis counselors. With all due respect to our new mayor, that just ain't going to do it.

For too long, we have worried too much about students feelings, emotions and self esteem. As we do that more, violence, crime, drugs, pregnant teens and lack of learning increases.

Students have a need to be held accountable, to be demanded to perform and to face consquences for their action. A bold move could have been for Villaraigosa and his protege Huizar to come out to the schools and demand those involved in these incidents be suspended or expelled. Then issue a stern warning to all the other students that this nonsense will not be tolerated. Students will respect this. They will respond to this. They laugh at "Days of dialogue" and other types of liberal namby-pamby measures they see as signs that they "got off the hook."

As Clark did, Villaraigosa, Huizar, our AWOL Mayor Hahn and all other leaders need to challenge these students to be the best they can be, to stay out of trouble and to instill discpline. As well, they need to make it very clear to parents that we expect them to raise their children right, hold them accountable and be sure that they face consequences if they run afoul of what is right.

If we don't, we will never solve the problems we are currently facing - and they will only get worse regardless of how much money we spend, how many teachers we hire, how many schools we build or how much "self esteem" the government tries to inject into them.

Huizar Dives in "Officially"

With "One bill" Gil dropping out and Pacheco out of the gates early, "sneezy" Huizy has jumped in officially. While the Chief officially has Huizy's back in the fight, I don't have a preference yet. Rick Orlov brings us up to speed here.

To Pacheco's credit, he submitted a 90 page pdf file last night of his "transition" memo to MEAV for the dead Mayor's to read. I won't bore you with most of it, but suffice it to say it is quite in depth. If nothing else it shows organization. It also offers a great glimpse of what he will most likely use as the spine of his campaign while touting his accomplishments. Among the interesting highlights are barbs from the cover memo to AV:

Welcome to the world of local politics. It is a very exhilitrating place to serve. The LA City Council is one of the most unique bodies in the country. Because we represent close to a quarter million residents, we face many diverse challenges; especially when you are expected to be inclusive to the many different ethnic groups in the District.

You will find that much of your time will be spent speaking directly to your constituents. This time will be the most cherished moments of your day; especially when you have solutions to their problems. The 14th Council District residents have overwhelmingly been very supportive of my work and enjoy the time spent with them at their homes or problem areas.

Enclosed you will find information that should be helpful as you assume your duties and responsibilities. The community members identified in this transition memo look forward to working with you to improve their neighborhoods. I have assured them that you also strongly believe in neighborhood empowerment and your vast network of contacts will assist them in all your joint ventures.

Note I didn't add the happy face. Nick did. Think he was setting AV up for a rematch? Will Whomever AV backs have to defend AV's record of living up to Nick's challenge? The specific challenges will be coming shortly. They are numerous. I don't want to rehash the "80 neighborhood watch crap" get debated on ad nauseum. Hertzberg Chairs MEAV Transition Team

As expected, the announcement was made today, but many guesses were wrong. Hertzberg chairs. Robin Kramer isn't mentioned, but word on the street has her the lead onsite person in the new 15th floor digs and Hertzberg the ceremonial head along with almost 70 of his friends.

On the reporter scorecard, looks like Orlov had it right, while Garrison missed the headline.

Mayor Sam Tidbits

Just for fun, here is some trivia about our beloved Mayor Sam Yorty.

Mayor Sam appeared on the 10 September 1961 broadcast of "What's My Line." However, he signed in as "Mr. X" because even though some of the panel might have recognized his name, they probably would have never seen his face since most of the panelists lived in New York. However, Art Linkletter did recognize him and voluntarily disqualified himself.

Mayor Sam played himself in an episode of "Here's Lucy" in 1972.

He has made appearances on "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" and "The Tonight Show starrring Johnny Carson."

He even played the role of a Mayor in a 1982 episode of "CHiPS," about a year after his last (losing) run for Mayor of Los Angeles.

Of course, Mayor Sam hosted his own local talk show, which was eventually cancelled in favor of "Hee Haw."

In 1997, a survey of urban historians and political scientists conducted by Melvin Holli at the University of Illinois at Chicago rated Yorty the third worst U.S. big-city mayor since 1960.

That's why we love him so!

Sam Scoops!

Mayor Sam pulled a major scoop on all the blogs today in being the first to report 1) The arrest of Hal Netkin and 2) The decision by Netkin's favorite State Senator Gil Cedillo to not seek the 14th Council District seat being vacated by Antonio Villaraigosa.

The Mayor was a good 1-3 hours ahead of that big blog that thinks it knows everything, but is mostly obsessed with books only Warren Beatty reads and finding ways to intellectually add soft porn to his site.

As well, he failed to tell all of the story on Netkin's arrest. Yea, Hal supposedly tried to drive in to the crowd (though police decided not to charge him for anything) but a bunch of juvenile delinquents attacked his vehicle and damaged it.

Anyway, its good to be on top of the news as it happens. C'mon Kevin - at least give Mayor Sam some props when you report his stories. He does the same for you!

Who Will Replace Miguel?

With the tragic death of Miguel Contreras there has been much speculation as to who will replace Miguel in the coveted position of Executive Secretary.

The interim Secretary Charles Lester is a bit crazy according to many union insiders -- the list of replacements is small but a very powerful groups of individuals.

Let's go through each one.

Maria Elena Durazo -- Head of HERE Local 11 and the wife of Miguel --PRO - a national leader in her own right and very influential with the growing latino union movement. CON - Seen as an ideologue unable to compromise or see the art of the deal.

Sen. Gil Cedillo -- State Senator representing much of a working class district, former union head of SEIU local 660. While Cedillo claims to not be interested in the job his ambition tells him to downplay the interest in the job. PRO- Has a strong base of supporters across the state and knows union politics very well. CON - Building trades and other black/white unions see Gil has a "latino only" type of candidate with his push for drivers licenses for undocumented residents as a good example.

Councilman Martin Ludlow - Los Angeles Councilman and former political director for the county federation (served under Miguel). PRO - A unifying force to bring together the entire union family, seen as a natural leader and someone all the unions trust. CON - his close relationship with Antonio Villaraigosa worries some unions that they will be totally blackballed out of any leadership decisions.

Eliseo Medina - Started his career boycotting grapes and strawberries for farmworkers -- was sent to Chicago to lead the boycotts there -- another National leader with respect from all sectors. PRO - Close with Antonio, but his union endorsed Hahn, a national leader who call Los Angeles home. Currently on assignment in the southwest. CON - Does the county fed want to bring in someone from SEIU when Andy Stern is threatening to leave the AFL-CIO.

Julie Butcher - SEIU Local 347 general manager - perhaps the most powerful woman in the City of Los Angeles. PRO - Sends a strong message to women that there is a seat for them at the table. CON - Same knock on her as Eliseo, her connections to SEIU may be a hardship and a knock on her.

Darkhorse candidate:

Don Attore - CTA fix-it man. Based in Los Angeles Don Attore is seen as man whose rolodex comes second to none in the union world. Can see the art of the deal -- has strong relationships with the Eli Broads of the Los Angeles. PRO - His appointment is not a nod in any one direction to building trades or service employees, can cut good deals for the entire County Fed and because he's not considered a national leader - he can be seen as a transitional leader before the next generation comes up the ranks. CON - Does anyone want CTA to have this much power?

Cedillo Won't Throw His Hat In

State Senator Gil Cedillo is to release a statement today annoucing he will not be running for the 14th Council District Seat to be vacated by Antonio Villaraigosa when he becomes Mayor.

Cedillo will say that though he would love to have a job that will keep him local - and have the opportunity to work directly with Mayor Villaraigosa - he feels a committment to serve out his term as State Senator, run for re-election to the State Senate and to continue his fight for driver licenses for illegals.

Just the other day, Boi from Troy endorsed Cedillo, so perhaps now Chief Parker can persuade the Boi to switch to Jose Huizar. But of course, that will have to wait until Boi returns from vacation or maybe one of his guest bloggers can handle it.

Looks like Hal Netkin will still have One Bill Gil to kick around for a while.

Hal Netkin Arrested

The San Diego Union Tribune is reporting that local gadfly Hal Netkin was arrested at a speech by anti-illegal immigration group Minutemen founder Jim Gilcrhist, at the Women's Civic Club last night in Orange.

According to reports, at least 300 pro-illegal immigration activists showed up to protest Gilchrist. Netkin was on his way out of the parking lot when a number of them begin to attack his van.

Netkin was arrested for investigation of assault with a deadly weapon but later released.

This morning, Netkin told KABC's Doug McIntyre that the protestors tore one of the windshield wipers off his van.

Can't we all just get along? Hal, you should probably stick to the Valley.

Revamp and Return

Since Mayor Sam got off his duff and revamped the site, I figured a return to the spotlight I couldn't stand to share with "poopie" while he tried valiantly to outshine me as "the most corrupt Mayor" was in order as well. I see not much has changed.

Hahn's soon to be ex-staff and AV haters are still sour grapes, copying and pasting away. Those resumes must be flying. You lost. He won. Get over it already.

Meat is pissing people off with unholy alliances with the Big "O", or as Sam likes to put it, the last time he got his rocks off.

The 'Ol Chief has jumped headfirst into the back-stabbing politics of CD 14, stirring the pro-Pacheco camp into a frenzy. You must enjoy pain.

And for the umpteenth time people are trying to write this site off with chants of "your numbers are dropping" and "I'm gonna go start my own site because I can't play well with others."

I'll be back with an actual post later, but go gargle razorblades or play on a freeway in the meantime. But not the gridlocked 10 in downtown, that's too easy. Try the 110 up around Ave 56. The curves add an element of surprise, and CD 14 likes to play rough.

More Hahn supporters in criminal trouble

Earlier today Mark Abrams was indicted by the District Attorney. While many folks on this blog hypothesized about this indictment -- I suppose the DA didn't want to get inolved in mayoral politics, so to keep it clean he waited.

However, in breaking news -- Hal Netkin another Hahn supporter --- was detained today for running over two people while at a Minuteman rally in Garden Grove.

The two young children that Hal Netkin ran over were of Latino descent (who would've thought) Hal claims to be fearing for his life, but I have to say perhaps if weren't at a racist rally there would not be trouble with his life right now.

The troubled coalition that Jim Hahn put together in 2001 are finally losing their minds and going to jail where they belong.

Cosmetic Surgery

I am testing a new design for the blog, but it may not be permanent.

I like some of the aspects of the new design, but not the way it handles comments. If you click on the link under the article that says, for example, "53 comments" it takes you to the comment posting page (which does include the comments but in a different format). If you click on the date and time stamp you will go to just the comments in a fashion similar to the old format.

I am also seeing some trouble where the Google ads are not showing up. If I can't figure that out quickly, I may go back to the old format temporarily.

Eventually we'll move to some form of Typepad or Movable Press format as soon as I do more research.

County Outrage

In the latest closed door nose thumbing by the absolutely useless County Board of Supervisors, these morons gave the go ahead to allow District Attorney Steve Cooley and County Assessor Rick Auerbach to use county funds to sue the county to overturn voter imposed term limits on their respective offices.

The same folks who took the mission cross of the county seal, are now giving your money to your elected officials to essentially sue you over what you voted for.

If Cooley and Auerbach want to keep their jobs and overturn term limits, they need to use their own damn money. At a time when the County is in a fiscal crisis and can't even manage it's own hospitals, this is a massive outrage. And they need to pursue this not through the courts but by going to voters in a new referendum. But I guess they don't have the balls for that.

One thing for sure - we here at the Sister City are urging term limits for another County elected official - Zev Yarovslasky. Oh yes, I can see the "Dump Zev" bumper stickers now.

I Am Not Dan Shallman

For some reason, a group of morons who read my blog think I am Dan Shallman. I don't know Dan Shallman, but I do know that he is nowhere near as talented and good looking as I am.

To make the point to you Sunshine Canyon for brains nitwits out there, Mr. Shallman took the time to write me an email on the topic:

I have learned that visitors to your website have claimed that I am Mayor Sam.  But as you must know, I am not you (nor do I even know who you are).  Kindly advise your readers of that fact.  As you also must know, I have no association whatsoever with the Mayor Sam website.  You do not speak for me and nobody should ever mistake your opinions for mine.  I also did not write Primary Colors, I have never spoken to Bob Woodward or Carl Bernstein, and I was not alive in 1963 and was therefore nowhere near a grassy knoll in Dallas, Texas.

Long Lost Brother

One moment after Antonio Villaraigosa was elected to the Mayor's office Nick Pacheco goes and proclaims his need to be the next councilman of the 14th district.

Fact: Can someone please name me another councilman who was beaten after his first term? Nick Pacheco.

Fact: In his second run for elected office he garners a paltry 15.01% of the vote.

Fact: He endorsed Jim Hahn in 2001.

Fact: Jim Hahn is gone.

Fact: Nick Pacheco was a Hahn supporter in 2005 -- source ethics website.

A man who loses, then tries again and loses, then supports another loser -- is by all accounts a LOSER.

But wait there's more...

Ricardo Torres III -- another loser -- Pacheco who went to law school with Ricardo they are still good friends to this day.

Earlier this year, he was suspended for 30 days and placed on three years' probation for misusing a client trust account. According to State Bar records, Torres used the account to pay personal or business expenses, deposited nonclient funds into it and failed to cooperate with State Bar investigators.
Over 23 months, the bar said, he bounced 23 checks on the account, committing "acts of moral turpitude, dishonesty, or corruption in willful violation of Business and Professions Code, section 6106." Daily Journal 2002

Job Applicant

Talk show host/attorney Leo Terrell is calling on Antonio Villaraigosa to not appoint the same old recycled people onto local commissions, but to bring in new blood.

On his Sunday evening KABC radio program, Terrell called on the new mayor to appoint, well, Leo Terrell to either the Police Commission or Airport Commission.

Terrell is a brilliant attorney with some interesting ideas. Wouldn't be a bad idea.

Bitter Bernie: Keep Things In Check

Full Disclosure Network is reporting that Councilman Bernard Parks is urging some interesting reforms going forward into the Villaraigosa era.

In an interview with FDN, Parks is calling for greater scrutiny of Mayoral appointments to avoid the alleged conflicts of interest seen with Hahn appointments.

Parks also describes new procedures for prohbiting "unfunded mandates" within the city. That is, no creating new programs without the funds to pay for them. Imagine that!

The first part of a two part interview with Parks will begin airing today on Full Disclosure's website as well as on local cable systems.

David Hernandez for County Supervisor

In March of 2006, in the statewide primary, voters in the 3rd Los Angeles County Supervisoral District will go to the polls to choose their represenative at the county level.

I am urging local activist, businessman and community leader David R. Hernandez from North Hollywood to run against the current County Supervisor, Zev Yarovslasky.

David has run for office previously, twice for the Congressional seat held by Howard Berman and for the Mayor of the San Fernando Valley in the secession campaign.

David has become prominent as of late as the leader of the "Save the County Seal" movement in which Yarovslasky buckled under to ACLU pressure to remove a tiny cross that was long a part of the seal of the County of Los Angeles.

What has Zev accomplished? The County is a mess with its hospitals in disarray, massive overspending and a lack of solutions to problems such as transportation and illegal immigration.

Its time for a change. Zev has been in office for decades. This can never be good.

With the possibility of a referendum to put the cross back on the seal along with Zev's re-election, its an excellent time to have a true leader like David on the ballot.

To be sure, David will have an uphill climb, but with the proper organization starting now, he can stage an upset.

David - your county needs you!

Stein Time Has Come To An End

Some time ago, we reported that Ellen Stein would be out from her cushy spot on the city's Board of Public Works. Insiders had expected Stein - the wife of connected attorney Ted Stein - to slide off before the end of 2004.

With the landslide loss of James Hahn, without comment or reason, three days later Stein has resigned from the board.

Maybe Cynthia Ruiz - who was allegedly dumped from the board by Mayor Hahn for being a Villaraigosa supporter - might get to come back. The ironic thing is that Ruiz was dumped to have Hahn replace her with longtime Councilman Tony Cardenas aide Yolanda Fuentes - which at the time was thought to be a quid pro quo bone thrown to Cardenas.

Didn't work, Cardenas eventually endorsed Villaraigosa.

Boondoggle Struggles To Survive

Lame duck Mayor Jim Hahn may be working his Republican buddies to get last minute Bush Administration buy-in to his $13 billion LAX boondoggle, but he's going to find that the recent election results have something to say about that.

In what seems like strange coincidence, just three days after Hahn's landslide drubbing, federal officials are giving intial approval to aspects of the plan. However, Mayor-Elect Antonio Villaraigosa plans to vigorously oppose.

Though another lame duck politician - termed out Councilwoman Cindy Miscicowski - cheered the feds' actions, it has little impact. Her successor Bill Rosendahl - who trounced Miscicowski's hand picked successor Flora Gil Kristoff in a landslide of his own - plans to also oppose the airport plan.

While the LAX boondoggle may be on its way to being denied boarding, lets hope we can recapture the $500 million in greenmail Jim Hahn offered up to the labor unions and other special interests as part of the airport plan.

Do Nothing Republicans

We told you how Jim Hahn bought and paid for Republican support by opening his checkbook.

The sad part, is that the same folks who gladly took checks from a Democratic mayor are running the local and state GOP into the ground.

Doug Boyd, his wife Linda (Chairman of the LA County Republican party) and others have failed the members of their party. Like the state GOP, they have not at all been aggressive about finding, developing and electing strong Republican leaders in Los Angeles. The Democrats are highly effective of moving future leaders through their paces within unions and other organizations, then electing them to lesser positions such as water boards, school boards, etc. - then moving them up to City Council, State Legislature, etc. On the other hand, the neanderthals running the local GOP are more content to indulge in bris and chablis and get paid by low life Democrats like James K. Hahn.

Because of this, we get people like Jackie Goldberg and other wacko liberals elected to state office. Then, rather than solve the problems of the state, they spend their time debating bills banning internet hunting and deciding what names sports teams should have.

Those of us who support a conservative, even moderate agenda have to wake up and take charge of the local GOP to begin to work to elect decent, thoughtful, intelligent Republicans to local office and more of them. Indeed, there are many folks out there whom properly educated, would find basic conservative principles of individual freedom and limited government appealing. But we have to do this ourselves. The media won't do it and the Democrats and liberals will continue to lie.

And when I talk about electing some good Republicans, I'm not talking about the same old cavemen such as David Dreir, Tony "Jim Hahn" Strickland, etc., but some innovative conservative leaders such as David Hernandez, Mike Gin, Heather Peters and others.

But first, we have to revolt and then reform the party.

Here at the Sister City, as time goes on, we are going to shine the brightest spotlight we can on our local Republican leadership. We helped take down a Mayor, we can take these clowns down easy.

And who knows, maybe then Wacko Walter might come back to the fold.

Did Anyone Tell Hal Netkin The Election Is Over?

You would think some people would face facts. But Hal Netkin, deeply hurt he could not stop Tony Villar from becoming Mayor, has updated his MayorNo website (which up until the primary referred to his new found friend Jimmy Hahn as the "Pay to Play Mayor") once again.

Here at the Sister City, amongst all the other election related links we have since removed from our site, we deleted Mayor No from our site. The election is over Hal.

Hal is using some nearly 25 year old reconquista screed to show that Tony Villar is all set to make Los Angeles a Mexican city. Remember, it was not Villar, but Jim Hahn who declared LA a Mexican city. Tony Villar, on the other hand said "The last time I checked, Los Angeles is in California."

Now as Hal should, we don't want to keep fighting the last election, because, well, its over. So Hal, we won't talk about it anymore if you don't. There is a lot more corruption to fight and bigots to bust, so I am sure you will keep busy. Just going after some of those biddies on the Van Nuys Neighborhood Council should keep you occupied for some time to come. Besides, we're going to need you to help us support Arnold as we gear up for the next battle.

And on another note, Antonio Villaraigosa is our Mayor-Elect. The dignity that comes with that office demands that I no longer refer to him as Tony Villar, but by the name he prefers to use. Of course, I may call him Mayor Poopy if the time comes.

Jose Huizar for Councilman

Today I Chief Parker officially endorse Jose Huizar for City Council.

When Huizar was first running for elected office he was the only school board candidate to get the endorsement of the UTLA and (then) Mayor Richard Riordan. He has shown a willingness to listen to both sides and that's why both sides support him. As a republican junkie, i've always had a soft spot for Dick Riordan, while he is a RINO, his heart was always in the right place. And his heart is with Jose, as is mine.

Working as President of LAUSD Mr Huizar has pushed and prodded the district into measurable reform initiatives to strengthen the classroom and the students experience in school.

While he did support Mr Pacheco during his council reelection I think a fresh start is needed for council District 14 -- Pacheco represents the divisive past.

To Mr Huizar -- while i don't know the direction Mayor Sam will go -- this law and order chief is with you -- and i don't even know if you've declared yet.

I wanted to be the first blogger to let my feelings known.

I don't have a whole lot to say, now that I have recovered from my election celebrating, I guess it would be a bit untoward to gloat that my goal was achieved. But I have to say that I am pleased that one of the most useless mayors (to date) in the City of Los Angeles has been vanquished and sent home packing to San Pedro. (Okay, maybe that is gloating).

To all the Hahnistas who lived day and night on my blog, you should have been walking precincts and making phone calls. What the hell do you think Tony Villar's troops were doing.

Jim "Poopy" Hahn, you should have known better. You were running my playbook from 1969 in 2001 and yea it worked for you. Then you re-ran my 1973 campaign this year and you got your ass handed to you just like I did. Christ, doesn't anyone learn?

To Chief Parker who stood tall despite multiple attacks, kudos for your fine work.

To MEAT and Sacramento Nighties - thanks for being worthy adversaries and giving us some real entertainment!

And finally to a one Antonio Villaraigosa nee Tony Villar - it's all uphill from here. Yes, we supported you, but we'll be watching you every step of the way. Reform the schools, keep crime down, add more cops and get those damn subways built and this old, dead Mayor will leave you alone.

Unknown to Mayor Sam i feel as tough we should create a "Sammy" award to the best political predictions made this election season.

Best political prediction - Kam Kuwata proclaimed San Francisco chronicle that they could lose by 20 points -- they lost by 17-18 points (depending on the provisionals).

Worst political prediction - Sacramento Nighties - with his consistent 52-48 prediction for Mayor Hahn, sacramento nighties needs a Los Angeles day to realize he's not in sacramento anymore.

Most consistent Hahn hater -" MEAT" with the taunts and comments he gave a lot of pro-hahn bloggers many upset stomachs.

Most consistent Villaraigosa hater- "Sacramento Nighties" with his registration of ADV he slammed Antonio enough to get his spin on other websites.

Any other awards?

Thievery!

Okay - this is a minor issue, but its par for the course when it comes to James Hahn. Apparently his web designers decided to lift a graphic from the Antonio Villaraigosa web site that directs visitors from both sites to the same county web site that helps voters determine where their polling place is.

To be sure, the Hahnista cutting and pasting crews were out to defend the charges and saying that the Mayor used the same "public domain" image that Villaraigosa had used, but now we hear otherwise.

Chris Williamson is a web designer who has allegedly posted on our site and says he's part of the team that designed the Villaraigosa site, including the graphic in question.

On the stolen Web graphic: I work with the designer who made it specifically for Villaraigosa's site. Notice how the "CLICK HERE" font matches the other small-font labels on Villaraigosa's site. And notice how the graphic is missing a top blue border on Hahn's site; it's because it doesn't need one on Villaraigosa's site. And of course the colors match Villaraigosa's site. We take it as a flattering compliment from Hahn's Web team. =)

Talk about getting your hand caught in the cookie jar!

That seems to be the going rate for a Democratic Mayor to get an endorsement from a Republican hack.

That's what Mayor Hahn PAID LA County Republican leader Doug Boyd for his support in this race, with the most recent payment being just a few days ago.

Edee Blevins, Director of Volunteer Management, for the LA County Republican Party has also received $5000 from the Hahn campaign. She was spanked by the local GOP for using their email system to support Hahn.

Whether Jimmy Hahn or Tony Villar wins tomorrow, following the elections, Mayor Sam is going to be like white on rice on our current local Republican leadership. We're going to take to task Doug's wife Linda Boyd - current RPLAC chair - as well as all the other tinhorns at the RPLAC for their utter mismanagement and failure to elect Republican candidates. And for allegedly offering some use of party resources to Democratic candidates for office.

It isn't going to be pretty. Stay tuned.

Jimmy the Chameleon

We've detailed for weeks how Jimmy Hahn has been trying to pretend he's a Republican amongst the Wing Nut flank and on talkradio.

Now the Daily News has noticed as well and makes some very good points in a recent editorial.

Jimmy is no Republican. Neither is Tony Villar, but he doesn't pretend to be. But he has taken several centrist positions such as opposing Jim Hahn's tax increase proposals and LAX boondoggle.

And as it is, the Republican support Jimmy is getting seems to be bought and paid for.

The LAX Difference

If there is any compelling reason to support Antonio Villaraigosa over James Hahn, its LAX.

Forget the pay to play scandals, the lack of progress, the lack of vision, etc. James Hann, if re-elected, will pursue the most costly, ill-advised and potentially dangerous public works boondoggle ever - his $13 billion LAX project - which includes nearly $500 million in "greenmail" payments to labor unions and left wing groups.

As well Hahn's LAX plan has been criticized as making LAX more likely to be the target of a terrorist attack.

Villaraigosa on the other hand supports a more rational, regional approach to our airport problem. We need to expand Ontario and Palmdale, both owned by the City of LA as well as work with other airport authorities to take their share of the growing traffic.

This issue is so important that an overwhelming number of often Republican leaders from Westchester and the South Bay are supporting Antonio Villaraigosa. Indeed, just Saturday former GOP congressional candidate Paul Whithead from Westchester joined the chorus.

Jim Hahn is giving into his airport special interests to pursue a dangerous flight plan at LAX. That's why his flight should be cancelled.

Guess The Results

So from time to time, people come on here and provide logical thoughts (yeah, that actually happens on this blog) as to how they feel that the results will be on Tuesday, May 17th. Sacramento Nighties, Armando, and a few others are among those who have put their guesses online. Now it's your turn! Don't post your fary tales or post stories that we can already read on newspaper websites. Just post your guess, and try to put some tag name to ID your guess. That at least helps keep the scoreboard in order.

Also, just get straight to the point. With about 35 hours left in the mayoral race, none of us have time to read postings that are as long as the trail of tears in Hahn's administration right now. If you post up anything more than your guess, than you're either just a political groupie who has no idea what they're doing, or you're just sitting at home watching Jerry Springer while eating mayo sandwiches.

So there it is - guess it, bring it, and post it. After that, go play on the freeways or take a dive onto a nail. Blog away...

Weird thing, aren't all of those scripts suppose to be reported to the Ethics Commission? Yes.

In the latest twist in the Mayoral race, Walter Moore - the self described only Republican to run for Mayor (other than Billy Wyatt) who gained enough votes to probably deny Bob Hertzberg a runoff berth and keep Jim Hahn alive - has left the Republican party.

Moore is charging that Jim Hahn paid local GOP officials $20,000 to campaign for him and deny opportunities to Republicans. You can read Walter's case here. And with that, Walter has left the party to become an independent.

Man, I heard the local GOP officials were corrupt, but didn't know it was that bad. Republicans should be pissed. I know I am. No wonder some decent moderate Republicans can't win. These people are in cahoots with the Democrats!

Southwest demands an Apology

As president of Southwest Voter Registration Education Project (SVREP), I take strong issue with the irresponsible public accusations made by your campaign strategist, Kam Kuwata, in the May 7 Los Angeles Times article entitled "Group’s Voter Registration is Questioned." These accusations are patently false, and I demand that your campaign reprimand Mr. Kuwata for his false statements and your campaign issue an immediate apology to SVREP and to the hundreds of volunteers who work tirelessly to empower Latinos at the voting booth.

SVREP, a national non-partisan, non-profit organization, has a sterling reputation of empowering Latinos and other underrepresented communities. Your strategist’s statements display either an ignorance of basic voter registration techniques or demonstrate a bias against empowering Latinos to make their own voting decisions.

As a long-time political operative, Mr. Kuwata should know that you cannot register voters by telephone. SVREP, with over 30 years of registration experience, provides its voter registration project personnel with several hours of training, including specific instructions to register all persons, regardless of race, ethnicity, political affiliations or preferences, when they are out in the field conducting voter registration drives. SVREP staff rigorously monitors its voter registration projects on a daily and weekly basis.

SVREP also assisted the William C. Velasquez Institute (WCVI) in conducting a poll to determine the pulse of the Latino electorate on key election issues and preferences. WCVI sponsored a poll of recently registered Latino voters in Los Angeles. Latino voters were asked in sequence (1) whether they would be voting; (2) if they planned to vote by mail; and (3) for whom the registered voter intended to vote in the upcoming election.

Do Neighborhood Councils Suck?

Since the Hahn Crew is so fond of pasting letters to the editor from the Daily News onto our blog, I decided to copy and paste one I thought was interesting. And the great thing is it has nothing to do with Tony Villar or Mayor Poopy.

I often wonder about Neighborhood Councils myself. Good idea in theory, but a few of them work well, most suck and even more are just, well, tragic.

The Valley gains in business prestige as a result of our 2002 cityhood attempt. Great - so that means it's time to update another 2002 win: Neighborhood Councils - our "best kept secret." Now, after three years, what has your Neighborhood Council done for you?

From what I hear, it's more likely bogged down by personal power. A member of the Encino Neighborhood Council told me, "We argue too much to get anything done." No surprise. Many council seats were never contested, and members just stay on - qualified or not. Encino will vote on its Neighborhood Council seats on June 9. Mark your calendar now - and vote. It's time for councils to grow up - and represent everyone.

Bratton: Run for The Border?

On the heels of yet another "pay to play" scandal in the Jim Hahn administration, New York Newsday is reporting that Bill Bratton is planning on leaving LA later this year to begin a quest to succeed Michael Bloomberg as Mayor of the Big Apple.

Of course, the Chief has denied this rumor, because, well it would be bad timing to make such an announcement now.

But many of the Chief's friends know he wants to return home some day and to be "Hizzoner" would truly be sweet.

I guess he'll decide next Wednesday, ehh?

Today's Los Angeles Times:

In February 2001, Pierce O'Donnell wrote Hahn, urging the city to join in a legal effort to recoup billions of dollars from natural-gas suppliers who had allegedly overcharged Los Angeles and others during the energy crisis.

Within weeks of that Feb. 23, 2001, letter, Hahn's office decided to file a lawsuit and join other plaintiffs in the coordinated legal effort, which eventually generated millions of dollars for the city and for O'Donnell's firm and other firms handling the cases...

On the day O'Donnell said his conversation with Hahn occurred, he wrote $9,000 worth of checks to employees, allegedly to cover donations to Hahn's mayoral campaign, according to a formal accusation filed against O'Donnell by the California Fair Political Practices Commission. He is now being prosecuted by the Los Angeles County district attorney's office on misdemeanor charges of making a total of $25,500 in illegal contributions to Hahn's 2001 campaign. O'Donnell, who was one of Hahn's biggest supporters in 2001, has consistently denied any wrongdoing...

At the same time that O'Donnell was talking to Hahn, he was writing checks to his employees to cover their contributions to Hahn's mayoral campaign, according to the state Fair Political Practices Commission accusation filed last year...O'Donnell on Feb. 21, 2001, wrote $4,500 worth of checks to employees to cover contributions from them and their spouses, the accusation alleges.The next day, he wrote $9,000 worth of checks to employees, according to the commission's accusation.

Earlier, on May 23, 2000, he allegedly wrote $12,000 worth of checks to cover other contributions to Hahn. All the recipients of checks from O'Donnell later sent their own checks to the Hahn campaign. City campaign finance laws prohibit individuals from contributing more than $1,000 to a candidate in any election period...

How can this guy be our mayor again?

Jill Stewart - Antonio is in the Driver's Seat

Tonight KCAL political analyst Jill Stewart made the claim that Tony Villar's campaign is in the driver's seat and will win this Tuesday.

She also said Hahn should've been Attacking Tony much earlier -- she's already writing the Obituary for Hahn and doing some good ol' fashion Monday morning quarterbacking.

I only write about Jill "I like cats" Stewart because i was flooded with e-mails last week about her criticism of Tony Villar's campaign.

Some of you people make this old Mayor sick

Sometime today or perhaps yesterday, someone set up a blog as an alternative to Mayor Sam. Fair enough.

Their feeling was that because I've taken a hard line on cutting & pasting, as well as deleting messages that go too far over the top delving into folks personal lives, that I practice censorship. Fair enough. This is a private operation, we can do that. They planned to offer a blog where anyone could say anything (of course within the realms of Blogger's rules I would imagine).

In their few short hours of life, there was a lot of cutting and pasting going on and even some personal attacks on the Mayor - not unlike the attacks we have seen on here on Tony Villar - that had they been posted here, they would have been deleted.

In just checking out the new blog, I see the owner has already decided to shut it down because they have received threats. That is unfortunate. Its the same damn thing that shut down the Fourth Floor Blog, which was a tragedy.

Since Fourth Floor went down, only this blog has been able to catch on where others didnt't. We intend to go on, whether its Mayor Villar, Mayor Poopy, or whatever. We will remain the rough and tumble for LA, and yes, if you go to far to make the blog non enjoyable (yes, in my opinion but I own the damn thing) I will tweak things and may just delete your post. But you can always come back.

Oh by the way - even though I own this damn blog - I don't live here. So sometimes I may miss some bullshit postings that I would have deleted had I seen. I don't always read every post. So if you see something really offending and are pissed off I haven't checked it out, you can always email me.

Cherny vs. Waldman

Okay, someone wanted to talk about it, and to give us a break from the Poopy-Villar battles, lets talk about as obscure a race as you can.

We hear that longtime Valley political activist, Bob Hertzberg staffer and current Chief of Staff to Lloyd Levine, Stuart Waldman, is planning to run for the Valley Glen Neigbhorhood Council.

We also hear that former Assembly candidate (who lost the nomination to Levine) and former Al Gore speechwriter Andrei Cherny is also considering running.

If you have any insight into this exciting race, we'd love to hear it.

UPDATE: Stuart Waldman has informed us he is not running for the Neighborhood Council, but looks forward to seeing everyone at Antonio's victory party on Tuesday night.

Since Stuart is out of the race, Mayor Sam will now start the "Draft Hal Netkin" for Valley Glen NC Campaign. Yes, Hal does not live in the district, but I believe he has carried some of his picket signs through Valley Glen, which should make him a stakeholder. Particularly because his sign was attached to a stake and he was holding it at the time.

Miguel Contreras Memorial Information

A viewing will be held from 5 to 7 pm, followed by a rosary from 7 to 9 pm, this Wednesday May 11 at St. Vincent’s Church, 621 West Adams Blvd on the corner of Figueroa and Adams Streets in Los Angeles.

A memorial service will take place this Thursday May 12, at 2 pm at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, 555 West Temple St. between Grand and Hill Streets in Los Angeles. A reception will follow from 3 to 6 pm. Miguel will be buried on Saturday in his hometown of Dinuba.

Boyd's Republican Gambit

You may also remember that Doug and Linda were part of the group that denied the Republican endorsement to Walter Moore. Wonder what Walter, McIntyre, Netkin et al think about now being on the same ship, on the poop deck of course.

Speaking of ships, you know that some Republicans have gone overboard when they jump into shark infested waters trying to save Mayor Hahn. Note the link at the bottom of the article to "People's Weekly World", not exactly a leading Republican or conservative publication!

While we like to think that the Lincoln Club's endorsement of Mayor Hahn is responsible for his rapid rise, it is more likely that our backing is but one of the many factors that are melting Villaraigosa's soft support faster than an ice cream cone in Death Valley.

The Mayor is very appreciative of our assistance, and that of the overwhelming majority of Republican leaders throughout LA County.

Re: Citywide Sample

We drew a citywide sample yesterday, calling in daytime and evening periods. Interviews were conducted with 1,515 voters drawn randomly from a sample of 15,000 voters that Jim Hayes selected from a universe that he believes represents the voters most likely to vote on May 17th.
The gross numbers for the sample show Hahn with 28.3%, Villaraigosa with 27.6% and "don't know, won't say" at 44.1%. If we look at just the decided vote, however, Hahn wins 50.6 percent to 49.4.

The sample is not balanced for gender (we have 59% female content), but if we weight it to reflect 51 percent females, Hahn wins 50.7 percent of the decided vote. Some voter subgroups in our sample under-represent the proportions that are likely to turn out on Election Day. However, if we adjust the proportions to match Donnie's Victory Formula and apply the "Hahn/Decided" percentage from our sampling, Hahn gets 55.2 percent.

There is one internal trend that we can specifically track. A week ago (April 24-27), we blind-sampled Republicans (n=978) and white non-Republicans (n=10,566) as part of our targeting analysis for the final weeks of the campaign. It's instructive to compare Hahn's decided-vote percentages in those samples to what we found yesterday, after the Florida fundraising scandal became news:

The Westside

After reading today's LA Times regarding the 11 point lead that Tony Villar has in Los Angeles.

I started to snoop around CD 11. My spies tell me that Bill Rosendahl is going to beat Flora with a much larger margin than Antonio will beat Hahn in the Westside.

Hahn actually still has a shot at taking the Westside from Antonio.

Bill is a shoo-in.

What is a Westsider to do?

Questions, questions, questions.

Laura Chick for Mayor?

Without a Republican in the race and unable to stomach inking the dot for Hahn or Villaraigosa, Arianna linked blogger Boi from Troy has finally come out with his endorsement for next Tuesday's Mayoral choice:

Write in Laura Chick.

Interesting concept, but my thinking is if Laura Chick wanted to be Mayor, she should have run for the spot herself. And as fun as Boi's thought may be (and as a West Hollywood resident he can't write in anyone) of course Laura is not a qualified write-in candidate (there is one, forgot his name) so any such votes wouldn't be counted.

And with all due respect to the Boi and all the great work he does (as well as his support of the Sister City), I get really tired of people from West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Burbank, Santa Clarita sticking their noses into our electoral politics. Yea I know LA is the 800 pound gorilla next to you and you think you should have a say, but you don't. Be grateful that you have a small city that works and is effective and leave it at that.

Us here in the San FernandoValley - which would be the sixth largest freakin' city in the US - remain a colony of Los Angeles and our Imperial Governor Jim Hahn. (And yes if Tony Villar wins its the same damn sad story I know). Jim Hahn's crooked campaign blew the chance for now for us to be independent.

Valley Voters remember - it was the Hahn campaign that allegedly shook down big contributions to oppose our independence. It was the Hahn campaign that ran misleading television ads to scare old people in the Valley and the rest of the city from voting for independence. This was the election that folks like Hal Netkin, David Hernandez and other new found Hahn lovers ran in to take a stand for the Valley.

The conservative Republican who would have been Mayor of this fine new city - Keith Richman - has recognized the truth. Jim Hahn was our enemy and he has stood with Tony Villar who at least gave us a chance - even if it wasn't politcally expedient for him.

Indeed, Tony Villar would not have supported secession and probably never will but he is the one who joined with Bob Hertzberg to get the legislature to provide the funding for the LAFCO study. It was the Villaraigosa-Hertzberg team that overturned the Tom Bradley-Kenneth Hahn-John Ferraro era law that gave the City of LA an unconstitutional veto over our independence.

Tony Villar didn't agree with us, but he didn't try to stymie us. He at least gave us a fair shake to make our case. Jim Hahn didn't even want to have the discussion.

The Valley will remember.

Hahn For Mayor... Of Tijuana???

So there has been alot of talk from some of the bloggers that Tony Villar is running on the Latino platform. Well, the last time I checked, Tony hadn't put out any ads or campaign materials like the ones that Hahn has.

So for the Hahnistas out there who still think that Hahn has portrayed himself as an All-American, I took a photo with my camera phone of a lawn sign that was placed along the public curbside to show you all how Hahn's campaign is portraying him (yes, they had "Paid For Hahn For Mayor" disclaimer at the bottom). As a proud American who has never missed an opportunity to speak my voice at the voting poll, I find it offensive that he is using the colors of the Mexican flag to outreach for a campaign in the United States. I wonder if Hal Netkin, Walter Moore, and Doug McIntyre have anything to say about this?

So now that we have evidence that Hahn is campaigning as if he's Pancho Villa, and that his camp is creating campaign material that has colors of the country just south of the U.S., is it safe to say that Hahn thinks Los Angeles is part of Mexico, and not United States??? I think he might be watching Channel 62 more than he does ABC7.

Perhaps the big ZERO i was referring to was the number of recall signature the "Recall Villaraigosa" submitted today. After 5pm the Clerk closed down their offices without a single signature filed.

Eliseo, for months we've posted to your site, for months your supporters have come on here and wrote about how great your signature drive was going, for months. Unfortunately, for months we've been lied too.

Eliseo - i support Mayor Sam's action of no longer linking to your site -- I feel like we've been fools for believing you and wasting our bandwidth even acknowledging you.

In the past months MEAT has been a one man machine e-mailing me constantly with information about your Recall and i refused to post anything of what MEAT e-mailed me. To MEAT i apologize to you, and i apologize to the readers of this blog who thought that this recall might be true.

Feel free to suggest other sites we can add.

We also need to hear from Hal Netkin that now that he has joined the Hahn amen corner, if he wants us to remove his "Bratton Must Go" site. Now that they're all part of the same family, well, you know - Hal might want to hide that.

Finally, since the reviews are falling flat for Arianna's new adventure, maybe we won't scream so loud about not being included in her blogroll.

Don't Dis The Mayor Arianna!

Arianna Huffington has launched her new multi-player blog, The Huffington Post, and from what we can see, it looks like a great place to get a lot of different views from different people.  Its very well designed and has an amazing range of commentators from Seinfeld's Julia Louis Dreyfus (and her husband Brad Hall) to Athrur Schlesinger to Tina Brown to Ellen DeGeneres to Congressman Ed Markey.  Very hip.

We have, however, one issue with Arianna.

Here at the Sister City, we've linked to Arianna for months.  We even updated her link to reflect the new site.

But when this old Mayor scanned her blogroll, absolutely no link to the Sister City.  Oh sure, you got LA Observed and Boi from Troy on there.  But where is the Sister City?  I guess we're in good company because Arianna also forgot to link to LA Voice.  Arianna - don't you know - despite what Joseph Mailander says - LA Observed, Boi from Troy, LA Voice and Mayor Sam are the Big Four in LA!

And to be sure Arianna - your salon readers are interested in the battle between Mayor Poopy and Tony Villar - you don't get any more coverage on that race - with all the inside crap - than Mayor Sam.  Where else can you read about the Mayor's childhood bathroom habits, Tony Villar's bar activites in the 70s, fake recalls and all the other entertainment we bring you on a daily basis!

C'mon Arianna - bring us on board!
