Southwest demands an Apology

Reprint of the Southwest letter today to Mayor Jim Hahn.

As president of Southwest Voter Registration Education Project (SVREP), I take strong issue with the irresponsible public accusations made by your campaign strategist, Kam Kuwata, in the May 7 Los Angeles Times article entitled "Group’s Voter Registration is Questioned." These accusations are patently false, and I demand that your campaign reprimand Mr. Kuwata for his false statements and your campaign issue an immediate apology to SVREP and to the hundreds of volunteers who work tirelessly to empower Latinos at the voting booth.

SVREP, a national non-partisan, non-profit organization, has a sterling reputation of empowering Latinos and other underrepresented communities. Your strategist’s statements display either an ignorance of basic voter registration techniques or demonstrate a bias against empowering Latinos to make their own voting decisions.

As a long-time political operative, Mr. Kuwata should know that you cannot register voters by telephone. SVREP, with over 30 years of registration experience, provides its voter registration project personnel with several hours of training, including specific instructions to register all persons, regardless of race, ethnicity, political affiliations or preferences, when they are out in the field conducting voter registration drives. SVREP staff rigorously monitors its voter registration projects on a daily and weekly basis.

SVREP also assisted the William C. Velasquez Institute (WCVI) in conducting a poll to determine the pulse of the Latino electorate on key election issues and preferences. WCVI sponsored a poll of recently registered Latino voters in Los Angeles. Latino voters were asked in sequence (1) whether they would be voting; (2) if they planned to vote by mail; and (3) for whom the registered voter intended to vote in the upcoming election.

Upon reading Mr. Kuwata’s charges, we launched an immediate investigation. We inspected the telephone database, provided to us from Political Data, Inc. and did not find Rolando Cuevas name in the database.

Chief Parker,

Why would anyone in their right mind want to apologize to a CROOK called "ANTONIO GONZALEZ." He should apologize for laundering all that money at the expense of taxpayers dollars. What a hypocrite. Kuwata did nothing wrong, he just exposed the truth. Wait until the AG gets their hands on all this, the raffle, money laundering, pandering, using funds to campaign for Villaraigosa, threatening prospective voters at sign ups, intimidation. He just opened a can of worms. I even feel like going to Lincoln Park and gathering names and descriptions of their abuse during the registration for voters at the park. This type of hypocrasy by a fellow Latino makes me so angry, that I just might do that. I am well known in the area, so credibility is there and I will have no problem getting the full scope of their pandering in our neighborhoods. We don't need thugs masquerading under organizations.

"Here's the stuff on Southwest

Alvin Parra is known to launder money and buy up property under his siblings names. He has property up in San Bernardino with taxpayers dollars under a sister's name

It's 501(c)3 previous poster and the Southwest Voter Registration and Education Project under Antonio Gonzalez has nevr acted as a non-profit. Gonzlaez uses this project as his personal pigy bank. The main benefactor of SWVREP is Gloria Molina who has sifted hundreds of thousands from her personal "discretionary" fund to SWVREP. And guess why, because Gonzalez is married to Alma Martinez, Gloria's chief of staff. Gonzalez had first dibs on Alma aftr Tony got through with her, just like Miguel and Maria Elena Durazo. This is why Gonzalez is referred to as THE WHORE by CSUN professor, Dr. Rudy Acuna, the father of Chicano Studies.

SWVREP has tried carnivals, bounties, and expensive billboards, all to no avail. $125,000 to get 12,500 registered voters - $10 per regitration, and 90% of these were probably just change of address - pathetic. If such a project were successful, the number would be up in the hundreds of thousands - 550,000 elligible Latinos will still stay home May 17th.

It is surely unethical given the fact that Gloria Molina's "discretionary fund" which she gets $1,000,000 every year that she can do a she pleases - Gloria has been an ineffective Supervisor for 15 years now, do the math - this is taxpayer dollars. But SWVREP will probably get away with it, just as they did for Tony in 2001 and 2003 - because technically they are supposed to be non-partisan. Although we all know that partisan can mean any given side in a campaign, SWVREP interprets this part of the law as a reference to partisan politics - you know, Republican/Democrats/Green. Since the last three Tony opponents have been Democrats - Hahn 2001, Pacheco 2003, Hahn 2005 and they have all been in non-partisan races, as the L.A. elections are conducted - they think they'll get away with it.

BTW, to launch a District Attorney investigation all that is needed is a written complaint detailing suspected illicit activities -it can even be anonymous! This comes directly from the "how to stymie political opposition" room at Gloria Molina's Office at the Kenneth Hahn County Administration Building. The current caretaker of this room is non other than Gerry Hertzberg, Huggy Bear's special little brother."

Guess What you guys? Antonio Gonzalez doesn't do this car raffle exclusively for Los Angeles, California. He also does this in other states, such as Aluquerque, New Mexico. "link provided."

Here it is:

Voting Recruiters Raffle a Car
(Albuquerque, N.M.-AP, October 26, 2004) — The Southwest Voter Registration Project has cooked up a good idea to drive young Hispanic and American Indian voters to the polls this Election Day.

Get five people to vote, win a shot at a car.

"We're not rewarding voters, we're rewarding volunteers who get voters to the polls with a chance to win. So far, it seems to be getting attention," Southwest Voter president Antonio Gonzalez said of the "Take 5 and Drive" giveaway.

The contest - sponsored by Southwest Voter in New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Nevada - gives volunteers who take five friends or family members to the polls a chance to win a 2005 Ford Mustang.

An estimated 20,000 brochures in New Mexico were sent out advertising the giveaway, and the contest Web site already had more than 20,000 hits.

Gonzalez said the names of voters submitted in the contest will be confirmed after the election by checking voter logs and making phone calls. Both political parties aren't complaining.

Antonio González, president of Southwest Voter, said although only one Mustang will be given out in other battleground states, two Mustangs will be given away in New Mexico.
González said the names of voters submitted in the contest will be confirmed after the election by checking voter logs and making phone calls to the voters. The volunteers don't have to be present at the polls with the voters, they just have to convince them to vote.
Kerry New Mexico campaign spokesman Ruben Pulido said if there is record turnout by Hispanics at the polls, it's not going to be because of a drawing.
"Still, we have nothing against people working to have Americans exercise their right to vote," Pulido said.

And here he says it all,

"...González said that with his organization's estimated $4 million budget this year, it has been able to register thousands of minorities to vote throughout the Southwest, and almost 18,000 in New Mexico alone.
The car giveaway is just one of a slew of new plans the organization has to recruit minority voters.
"We've raised the money through fund-raisers, corporate donations, private donations, grants— basically looking under every tree and rock," he said. "We've worked hard to do more.
"This year for the first time, we're giving away cars," he said.
González said an estimated 20,000 brochures in New Mexico were sent out advertising the raffle and the contest Web site has already had 20,000 hits.
"It's all legal," González said. "We've done it through a lawyer. We're not rewarding voters, we're rewarding volunteers who get voters to the polls with a chance to win. So far, it seems to be getting attention."

Funny how Rolando Cuevas shows up on my database, and I've bought the same data base from Jim Hayes for the last five municipal elections in CD 14. Rolando is there in 1999 as a resident of Boyle Heights - this is when the Big O was helping Victor Griego - but to no avail. And the Big O was on the data base again in 2003 - this is when he helped Nick Pacheco but again to no avail. Antonio Gonzalez says he is not there, but yet there he is, voter ID# 065453735, affadavit# CZ267584, dob 03/15/68. I'd put his address and phone number but I think you get the point.

If Rolando Cuevas is on these data bases provided by Political Data, Inc, isn't hit convenient that he is not on SVREP's data base. And mind you, I don't like Rolando, but yet there he is on those same data bases.

Are we suppose to believe Antonio Gonzalez just because he is the president of this bogus organization that he is using as his personal piggy bank? Doesn't Antonio Gonzalez have any shame? Who is he to be asking for a reprimand. Antonio has been sued, by former SVREP employee Rita Moreno, for sexual harrasment. He regularly uses SVREP funds to pay for his trip and ticket to the last ten Super Bowls. He's practically led SVREP into the ground, just look at the Latino voter registration rate in Los Angeles, pathetic. And he wasn't suporting his daughter in San Antonio until he hooked up with Alma Martinez, Gloria Molina's Chief of Staff and he started bilking Molina's discretionary fund. Is it any wonder that he is known as "The Whore" among Latino politcal circles.

Tony is going to lose because 550,000 Latinos will be staying home on May 17th, Tony can thank his buddy Antonio for this - he just hasn't done his job.

Scene 1: Very hardcore looking, multiple tattooed gang members harassing a family in the park. The police show up to try and do something to protect the family only to be stopped by AV who shows up in time to protect the gang members.

Scene 2: A sleazy, unshaven old man is observing some kids playing on the swings in the park. He pulls out a handful of candy and heads over to the kids. Next you see him walking away holding a little girls hand as she licks a candy sucker. A close up of the man's shirt reveals a button that reads "Vote For Antonio V. for mayor".

Scene 3: Group of L.A.P.D. uniformed officers are with Antonio shooting an endorsement commercial. The director yells, cut! That's a wrap! As the officers walk away the camera zooms in on the back of the officers collars to reveal "Acme Costume Rentals" as these are not real L.A.P.D. officers but non-union actors.
Cut to Mayor Hahn shooting his commercial with the real L.A.P.D. officers endorsing him.

Presenting Mrs. GLORIA MOLINA-

"Antonio Villaraigosa knew, when he was endorsed by Los Angeles County Supervisor, Gloria Molina, that she was cozy with Anti-Semite separatist Hector Carreon, the publisher of La Voz de Aztlan, but he thought that no one else knew."

He is the former web master of anti-Semitic "Nation of Aztlan" and presently the publisher of "La Voz de Aztlan," (The Voice of Aztlan), a vicious anti-Semitic on-line publication. He is a Chicano separatist who calls California "Alta California." He admires leaders like Yassar Arafat and Fidel Castro. He considers Israel's defense against terrorism as immoral, and Hamas' suicide bombings that target Israeli civilians, as noble. His editorial, Anthrax Terrorists May Be Zionists was reprinted by the "Syria Times" October, 2001, and portrayed by the Arab world as a credible piece of news. A follow-up article was also posted FBI Closes in on Anthrax Terrorist -- Prime Suspect is a Zionist

His name is Hector Carreon.

According to the L.A. New Times (now defunct), when Carreon began taking an interest in local politics, he held several fund-raisers for candidates in his home. One of those fund-raisers benefited county supervisor Gloria Molina.

Molina returned the favor in 1991 by naming Anti-Semite Carreon to Los Angeles County's Real Estate Management Commission. The panel is made up of five citizens, one appointed by each supervisor, who are charged with reviewing county property leases and making recommendations to the board. "Out of the five commissioners, four were judios. County government is puro judio, did you know that?" Carreon asked a reporter.

Worst endorsement of campaign.
LA Weekly
We kept waiting for Antonio Villaraigosa to turn it on in his second run for the mayor’s office. He didn’t do it in the primary campaign. And he hasn’t done it in the weeks leading up to next Tuesday’s vote. It’s as though he’s content with the abysmal 26 percent turnout in March and is doing all that he can to keep from awakening the hundreds of thousands of voters who sat out the primary for fear some of them might vote for Jim Hahn.

Too bad. This is not the inspirational leader Los Angeles needs to fire us up. Nor is it the one Villaraigosa has shown he can be.

He has momentum, though the gap is narrowing and the latest Times poll shows Hahn has cut his lead from 18 points to 11 points, with 9 percent undecided

Is this an enthusiastic Villaraigosa endorsement? Now, that’s another matter. We’d like to be able to say we’re impressed with the job Villaraigosa has done on the City Council, but two years isn’t enough time to make a mark. His district still has a high murder rate, poor schools, lagging economic development. He talks about getting dozens of new stop signs and rallying neighbors for community cleanups. We say that’s great, but it’s not by itself enough of a record on which to run for mayor.

And yet he showed leadership by helping to end a public transit strike, and he kept his national stature high with his role in the Kerry for President campaign. But he’s got a spotty record of showing up for City Council business, including sessions on transportation and education, both of which he claims as special areas of expertise.

And then there’s his campaign. Stumbling in debate, vitriolic at news conferences, he doesn’t seem like the Antonio who captured the nation’s imagination in 2001. He has excelled in one area: He’s raking in the dough. It’s as though he altered his old tattoo to read, “Born to raise cash.”

Still, we’ve seen him as an organizer, an ACLU president and as an especially effective state Assembly speaker, and we know he has it in him to be an energetic and inspiring mayor. We know what Hahn has going for him as well, and we don’t like it. The prospect of four more years of lackadaisical work and missed opportunities is just too depressing to consider. There are enough concerns about Villaraigosa that the city will not likely let him operate on autopilot as mayor. That’s a good thing. It’s about time this city had a mayor like Antonio Villaraigosa, who’s worth our attention and who believes we’re worth his.

Throw out a couple of taunts, ignore the massice damage being done to your boy in ALL levels of media, call the posters idiots, and move on.

This...

"Helping Hahn means mostly staying out of his way..."

Means Jim Hahn has his own brain - not one shared with campaign hacks through cue cards, like ADV.

Hahn does the work -- we just get the word out (Carrick is saying).

But NOTICE that when ADV's campaign needs to get a point across that involves more than 1-2 sentences, they shove ADV in the direction of hand-shaking admirers, of scoot him back to the car, and then ACE, et al. tell people "What WE, I mean TONY think is..."

Antonio is a puppet, the puppetmasters are pulling the strings, and they're getting him ALL tangled up with his own career failings now.

Riddle me this: "This is not the selling of the president."

What's your spin on that? It either means

a) Carrick doesn't think Hahn or his campaign is very important, the way a presidential campaign would be (like that fantastic Gephardt campaign, I'm sure).

b) On your "generous" interpretation, it means the Hahn campaign thinks the President of the US of A is a moron who needs handlers where Hahn doesn't. That's a pretty incredibly stupid thing to say when Republicans are practically the only one's even considering voting for your boy...

Having fun choosing!

Imagine wanting Riordan's endorsement. I really think this guy is starting a sad descent into dementia.

One shouldn't brag about being endorsed by the man who spent the end of his mayoral run trying to make a power grab of the LAUSD Boardmembers.

Then the not so bright governor, who just wanted the Riordan endorsement to get him out of the race himself, promised him a plum appointment.

But the down sliding Riordan thought it would be okay to tell a schoolchild that her name meant dirty little girl. She cried.

When Riordan endorses - candidates lose.

City officials, including Villaraigosa, have balked at a five-year extension of the contract with Affiliated Computer Services. They say that the company needs to reimburse Los Angeles for up to $23 million in parking revenue that the city contends it is owed.....
Villaraigosa raised questions about the contract in February. Since then, his mayoral campaign has received $3,500 from six ACS executives..

Antonio is such a lazy ass himself as Chair of the Transportation Committee Villaraigosa FORGOT to collect. Can you imagine how many more police officers we could have hired. Why don't the reporters ask Antonio why he forgot to collect.

Daily Breeze, Villaraigosa's schedule called 'sanitized'
Councilman's work list excludes out-of-town fund-raising events

Now Councilman Antonio Villaraigosa is the one under fire for releasing an updated schedule from the past two months that has almost no mention of his campaign activities.

Villaraigosa was the first candidate in the mayoral campaign to release a complete schedule covering his office meetings and campaign appearances from July 2003 through mid-March. He chided Hahn in televised debates for refusing to do the same.

"He is giving (out) a very sanitized schedule," Kuwata said. "I'm sure he's taken off the meetings he's held with whatever special interest he's sold off Los Angeles to."

They had to sanitize the schedule. What would it look like if he were to put those late night escapades with Jenny, right down from his Mt. Washington home, at the vacant Taylor Yard site. This is one of Tony's favorite spots to park since he knows that going to a motel is a no no during campaign season - that's how he got busted with Martha Reyna, his comadre, in 1994 while Corina was home recuperating from cancer treamtments. Good ole' Tony, still fantasizing about his cruising days and making out in the backseat of cars.

6:22 a.m. said - "What a lazy ass reporter Patrick McGreevy is. The Times reporters are still protecting Antonio and not reporting facts."

No shit, two other times, at least in recent coverage they've taken apart claims against ADV and just laughed off his serious credibility problems like, "so

what.

When they were talking about him breaking his promise to his district not to run for mayor, they said "so what, politicians always do it - Delgadillo is making

plans to run for another office within weeks of re-election." BUT Delgadillo did make a SPECIFIC promised not to during his campaign and REPEAT IT 50

times, like ADV did. Delgadillo is also in his SECOND term, not the first half of his FIRST.

Then TODAY, they take apart Hahn's ad on the Florida money and say "no evidence ADV did favors for the contributors. But in the VERY NEXT

SENTENCE, they talk about him trying to kill contracts extentions for COMPETITORS of the Miami money people (to open the door for THEM to get the

contracts).

DID the TIMES fire all it's editors and fact checkers when they lost all those subscriptions (to save money)? Don't they even read their OWN stuff. How

more BLATANT can you get than that! Oh, but ADV says there's NO connection. (And he ALWAYS tells the truth, right CD14???)

This is a few days old, but VERY telling about the reliability of the L.A. Times latest poll:

http://www.mattszabo.com/archives/2005/05/la_times_poll_i.html

Basically it shows that nearly one out of every 10 voters favoring EITHER mayoral candidate (identical numbers for Hahn or ADV), consider corruption an ASSET, not a liability.

Supposedly this poll has a margin of error of only about 4 percent, but this seems to strongly suggest their numbers are off WAY more than that, or else quite a few people questioned were very confused or intentionally trying to jerk the poll off its axis for fun or profit.

Most likely it means the MOE is several times what they claim...

Someone seems to like the little math problems they keep posting -- A+B=C, Here's an equation that defines the candidate very well.

So the Breeze reports that ADV wiped his calendars clean of campaign activities. Campaign confirms, saying they don't have to show that stuff.

Earlier, the Times reports on these same calendars and says ADV's show that he spent nearly all his time - for most of the past year - on campaign activities (while getting paid $140K to be a full time councilmember -- but that's another equation). Note, though that the Times fails to mention there are no specifics about these campaign activities (representing most of his released information) -- an omission that adds proof to the argument the Times is going easier on ADV (also another "equation").

ADV then beats Hahn up for not releasing his calendars, so he does -- and Times reports that unline ADV, he has "balanced" his time between city work and campaign.

But, if ADV spent almost ALL of his time campaigning, and purged those specifics, then WHAT information exactly was he actually releasing? Absolutely nothing -- nearly blank calendars, with just placeholders for campaign time.

Yet another bogus campaign trick to try and embarrass the other guy, without ever really being forthcoming himself -- when what SHOULD have been an embarrassment -- to ADV, was the fact that he was stealing city money every time he deposited his paycheck. AND, the information ADV his was the VERY same kind of details

EQ: Something (ADV's calendars) - nearly everything (his campaign time) = almost nothing (delivery on promises).

The more "open" and forthcoming this guy claims to be the more deceitful he actually is -- more weasel words and equivocations from this "all show" talker who has accomplished nothing in two full years.

"I voted against it, but then voted for it."

"I promised not to do that, but was 'compelled' to break that promise."

"I support public education but avoid using it myself. My opponent runs from educational issues, but entrusts his family to LAUSD."

"I support business development in Los Angeles, but I spend MY money elsewhere."

"I'm tough on crime, but not on criminals."

"My opponent is MIA, but I missed more council and committee meetings than any of my peers."

"My opponent is invisible, but I haven't been seen at a neighborhood council in my district in two years."

"My opponent is under investigation, but I wipe clean from my calendars the information investigators are most likely to want to see."

Enough -- there is no cure on the market for ADV's allergic reaction to the truth!

Hahn is already a better option to never being told the truth, and we can do even better in four years.

Proof of Southwest Voter Registration Education Project's working as a field organization for the Villaraigosa Campaign, in violation of it's 501(c)3 non-profit status and violating the reporting requirements for all Independent Expenditure Campaigns:

"While SVREP does not support candidates or political parties, according to our analysis, if the Latino vote would have been hyper mobilized and turned out at a rate of 63.2%, more than 199.759 Latino would have voted. Assuming the rate of Latinos voting for Villaraigosa remains constant at 82% he would have received an additional 51,679 Latino votes. This scenario, more simply expressed as Latinos comprising 32% of all votes cast, would have led to victory for Villaraigosa."
