In the latest twist in the Mayoral race, Walter Moore - the self described only Republican to run for Mayor (other than Billy Wyatt) who gained enough votes to probably deny Bob Hertzberg a runoff berth and keep Jim Hahn alive - has left the Republican party.
Man, I heard the local GOP officials were corrupt, but didn't know it was that bad. Republicans should be pissed. I know I am. No wonder some decent moderate Republicans can't win. These people are in cahoots with the Democrats!

Make the best of being a very small minority in L.A. and get the best concessions from the bullies in the majoritym or DIE on principal. Hahn has appointed a few Republicans, and MANY more moderates than and ADV mayor would EVER even consider.
If ADV gets achance to clean house it's going to be do-nothing, pander-gridlocked "progressives" under every commission rock.
And the city will grind to a long-term halt.
Wacko Walter may have not been the guy, but the GOP could have put forward someone serious - however that requires an effective organization, something the Boyd's don't want (because it means they would have to give up their cushy positions).
The Boyds don't care about the Republican party, they only care about how much free food and drink they can get and be grand poobahs of a dying party they are helping to kill.
Looks like Doug and Linda will soon be joining Mayor Hahn in earning the title "Former" before their name. "Former" Mayor, "Former" Treasurer of the CRP, "Former" head of the LACGOP. Hopefully Doug will at least be able to use some of that money to buy Hahn a drink Tuesday night when he loses.

Pretty smart of all concerned if you ask me. GOP people take Hahn's money, help elect a lame duck liberal democrat, and get another shot with REAL GOP candidates in 4 years. Hahn pays a pittance to get some assistance getting in GOP votes, and exploits ADV's weakness among moderates and conservatives.

ADV, meanwhile, gets endorsments from Parks and Hertzberg (for god-knows what back-room deals), and immediately starts losing ground among THEIR support groups.

Speaking of the Times, 10:24 a.m., they're bias is becoming so much more obvious. Twice in recent coverage they've taken apart claims against ADV and just laughed off his serious credibility problems like, "so what.
When they were talking about him breaking his promise to his district not to run for mayor, they said "so what, politicians always do it - Delgadillo is making plans to run for another office within weeks of re-election." BUT Delgadillo did make a SPECIFIC promised not to during his campaign and REPEAT IT 50 times, like ADV did. Delgadillo is also in his SECOND term, not the first half of his FIRST.
Then TODAY, they take apart Hahn's ad on the Florida money and say "no evidence ADV did favors for the contributors. But in the VERY NEXT SENTENCE, they talk about him trying to kill contracts extentions for COMPETITORS of the Miami money people (to open the door for THEM to get the contracts).
DID the TIMES fire all it's editors and fact checkers when they lost all those subscriptions (to save money)? Don't they even read their OWN stuff. How more BLATANT can you get than that! Oh, but ADV says there's NO connection. (And he ALWAYS tells the truth, right CD14???)
OH yeah, speaking of Parke -- he had to change up his "musical" tastes, albeit ecletic" in the puffery piece about him in the ADV-LEANING Times -- since someone outed him as a liberal/socialist guilt-ridden (BLACK) jazz maven.

We supported Los Angeles Mayor James Hahn's re-election bid back in March and continue to do so in the runoff campaign against a popular city councilman, Antonio Villaraigosa.
We base our endorsement of Hahn on many of the same reasons voiced by Harbor Area residents, who overwhelmingly supported the mayor two months ago. They include:
Hahn's appointment of William Bratton as police chief, his efforts to restore community policing and the resultant 18 percent drop in crime over the past two years.
The easing of tensions between Harbor Area communities and the Port of Los Angeles as a result of the formation of a Port Community Advisory Committee, progress on the waterfront promenade plans and the efforts to craft a long-term plan to hold the line on port pollution.
The progress the city has made in doubling housing production in a region where demand for homes consistently outpaces supply.
The approval of a modernization plan for Los Angeles International Airport. This is a work in progress, and the city will need to dialogue with neighboring communities to ease congestion fears. But the overall goals of the plan are sound: Keep annual passenger traffic to below 78 million and make LAX less vulnerable to acts of terrorism.
Credit the mayor also with working to hold the city together when San Fernando Valley leaders were advocating secession. Meanwhile, traffic remains a perennial headache, but a study released this week found that traffic delays in the L.A. region in 2003 were actually a bit less than in previous years.
Hahn's leadership style may not be flashy, but he has provided stability and hope that the quality of life here can be improved. We urge L.A. voters to re-elect him on Tuesday.

JUST to clarify one very misleading point here.
VILLARAIGOSA was the one who kept Hertzberg out of the runoff -- NOT Walter Moore. Hertzberg had one runoff spot sewn up, before bitter, vindictive ADV jumped in late to settle an old score (and break his MAIN 2003 campaign promise).
Read the media endorsements, people... Hertzberg would have been showered with praise in a two-way with Hahn -- ADV's nods are weak and perfunctory, at best.
Without ADV in the primary, and with Parks pulling major African American percentages away from Hahn, Hertzberg had a VERY good chance of squeeking over the 50 percent mark in the PRIMARY, had ADV not been COMPELLED to give L.A. a "choice" against Hahn.
HUH, Hertzberg, Parks, and even Alarcon weren't "choices against Hahn!
This thing COULD have been over back in MARCH if not for ADV's massive bruised ego, thin skin, and LEGENDARY vengeful nature.
Read the Times profile on the campaign hacks -- even ADV's handlers are in this to SETTLE A SCORE! They probably would have worked for free this time (BAD negotiating ADV... thought you were the labor negotiating whiz?)

The chance of Hahn winning this thing is zero. There is absolutely no scenario in which Hahn can overcome the massive amount he trails Antonio (especially with the inept team that he has in place). You can type, type, type all you want to try to put on a good show, but this thing is over, and has been over for months. Hahn has no one but himself to blame. If he would have demonstrated some leadership during the past four years he would be breezing to re-election, but he didn't. He is too lazy and too stupid to be Mayor. Game over, folks.
Good point, but the logic behind the original post heading here is even more disturbed than that. If you read it through -- they're bashing a GOP operative for working for the less liberal of the two democratic candidates, but then implying somehow that ANOTHER Republican -- Moore -- should have for SOME reason, stepped out of the way of a THIRD liberal Democrat, Hertzberg (in the primary), so that the runoff would have been between the two MORE liberal democrats in the race.
And this would have benefitted Moore and the Republicans how? Moore said DURING the primary that is he had to pick one of the challengers to support/benefit it would have actually been Parks.
Now he supports Hahn (or did?), and now he's an independent. So it's all moot point.
Even in a supposedly non-partisan race, you really can't be faulting a GOP player for staying in and possibly having some small part in bumping out the Dem you happen to like best.
That's not his job...
That's just ALL bass-ackwards. The democrats conniving together to give another one of their ilk a better shot makes some sense, but when you jump across party lines to suggest that someone "screwed" your guy's chances. Sorry, nothing in that makes sense.

Mark Coogan just blasted Antonio's big lie on the child abuse bill. That's probably the reason Antonio canceled his press conf. Reporters were given documents that showed Antonio's voting record on AB2258 and he's been saying he voted the following week on a better bill. WELL GUESS WHAT???? HE DIDN'T HE LIED AND THE REPORTERS HAD THE DOCUMENTS TO PROVE IT. Shame shame on you. Hahn was telling the truth. Antonio is nothing more than a common criminal off the street wearing a suit.

The Rebel
At 49, Skelton is not as woolly as he was when his shoulder-length hair and a full beard spooked at least one client.
"I looked like Peter Kropotkin," he said with a laugh, referring to the Russian anarchist of the turn of the 20th century.
He spends his free time listening to Appalachian bluegrass music and rereading Icelandic sagas. Epic struggles are the kinds of plots he relishes. "Relatively uncontested reelection work doesn't interest me," Skelton said. "I need the warp and woof of a really interesting campaign I could lose."
He didn't always love that. There were periods when he went through the final couple of weeks of a campaign with a stomachache. In 1991, as he stood poised to ascend to the bigger political races, Skelton lost three races by a combined total of fewer than 1,000 votes.
"I was catatonic," he said. "I didn't get off my couch for a week." Fortunately, his girlfriend, Alison Morgan, didn't think he was a loser. He and Morgan, a ballet dancer and actress turned political fundraiser, eventually married and now have two children.
Over time, he said, he realized he could lose a race and still live — not to mention get another job. "I love L.A. politics — more than anything else I do," Skelton said.
Antonio's tv ads are showing what a flip flopper he is and that he blatantly lies. He's sounding like a crybaby "Hahn attacked me the last time"( NO HAHN TOLD THE TRUTH.) Then ADV comes out with another stupid tv ad misleading the public to make them believe police officers are supporting him when they're FAKE cops. Their actors. Then he has the Blair Witch ad. He has stated that the mayor has no control on LAUSD then he shows an ad lying saying Mayor Hahn has missed board meetings. People are now questioning his flip flopping and wondering if he's LYING about and misleading with these ads it will only get worst if he wins.
PART TWO*
Skelton works with his partners out of a stark Pasadena loft decorated with 1950s Mexican art posters. He stays in touch with Villaraigosa's team via conference calls. He avoids actual campaign events, but made an exception to take his 5-year-old son to the Van Nuys event where former presidential candidate Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) endorsed Villaraigosa.
"I would love to be an elected officeholder," Skelton said. He just doesn't want to be a candidate. "I can't imagine sitting down for five hours and calling people for money."
Skelton won't disclose how much money he will earn in this campaign, but city Ethics Commission records indicate his consulting company — SG&A — has been paid $140,000 through the end of April.
Skelton was a quarter of an academic year away from his bachelor's degree in philosophy at UCLA when he organized a successful campaign to pass a rent-control initiative in Santa Monica. After he won, he was launched. His trademark has become clever direct mail, and hoisting opponents on their own petards.
When Rep. Adam Schiff, the Democrat representing the 29th Congressional District, ran in 1996 for state Assembly against Paula Boland, Skelton made a collage of Boland's attack mail and put it on Schiff's own mailer. "It asked, what do we know about Paula Boland?" Schiff recalled. "And then it said, 'Paula Boland obviously doesn't like Adam Schiff very much.' " The mailer proceeded to dissect Boland.
"Voters don't take this as deadly serious as we do," Skelton said. "They aren't disposed to believe attacks on a campaign. They need to know you're responding to them and that you don't think it's true…. But humor helps deflect it."
PART THREE*
Skelton, who guided Villaraigosa's unsuccessful 2001 campaign for mayor, said he never expected to win four years ago. "We couldn't get more than 20% of the African American vote," Skelton said. "And in making the decision to run this time, my mantra was: Can we get 40% of the black vote? If we can't, we shouldn't run."
Skelton knows the knock on him is that, four years ago, Villaraigosa didn't counter Hahn's attacks harder and faster.
This time, Skelton wasted no time striking back at a negative Hahn ad in the primary campaign.
"We wanted to send a message in the primary that we were not going to let any hit go unchallenged," he said.
The negative battle has been dialed up this week as Hahn tries to close an 11-point gap in a Los Angeles Times poll.
"I think we're prepared for any possibility," Skelton said. "Within an hour of Hahn going negative, we're ready to respond."
The Gambler
Villaraigosa is ready to counterattack largely because he has Ace Smith. A pioneer in the field of opposition research, Smith has burrowed deeply through records for information — often dirt — on opponents and his own clients.
Smith's speed-reading skill — he can inhale a 400-page book on a cross-country flight — helps.
"I probably personally know their records better than either of them do," he said while sitting in a restaurant not far from the office space he rents in Little Tokyo. Over a lunch of udon noodle soup — which he eats sparingly — he is courtly, his words measured, his steely blue eyes intense.
On the telephone or in e-mails, it's a different story. He'll deluge editors and reporters with the tidbits that skewer and deflate his opponent's statement du jour.
"Ace is very good at the rapid response," said former Assemblyman Richard Katz, who has been helping Villaraigosa on the campaign trail, and even played the role of Hahn in Villaraigosa's debate prep.
"When Hahn first started saying, 'Antonio, we want to see your e-mail,' Ace was right there saying, 'See our e-mails? We haven't seen your appointment book that you're required to release.' It allowed the candidate to be above the fray."
When Villaraigosa attacks, some see the hand of Smith at work. The campaign manager said his client is markedly more aggressive than he was four years ago. "One of the fundamental rules of politics is if someone is attacking you, you have to respond," Smith said. "If you sit there and take it, you'll lose."
Yes, you're right Antonio is aggressive right off the streets. He's a typical gangster thug. City Council just got blasted for Antonio, Weiss, Zine missing yet another meeting. John Walsh went off on them for being absent because they only have to attend 3 meetings. He spoke for a long time stating that they are elected officials that have a duty to get business done first.
Gee, Antonio has missed two weeks of city council meetings. Is the rumor that is running rampant citywide that he's actually running for Governor and this is yet another stepping stone?
Missing was Parke Skelton, Villaraigosa's lead strategist. But that was nothing new: The consultant known for his liberal ideology and tangle of curly hair stays behind the scenes. He was holed up in his Pasadena office, coloring with his 2-year-old daughter, Zora, before wading through dozens of phone messages.

NC'S are essential to the community as the voice of the people. The only problem I have is when politicians such as Villaraigosa use these NC's to push their agenda. For example, in El Sereno, you have Alvin Parra as an interim President, and in downtown you have Meruelo deeply seeded in that council, those are two that I know of and I'm not even involved in them personally. Imagine those of you that are involved in these NC's, you must know more rats that are implanted in these NC's to push, work, and promote inhouse political agendas. I'm only speaking of these two, I have no idea of the others. If the NC's maintain a their own identity, they would be effective in promoting community concerns and comments. Although, the NC's board members should be barred from running for office and donating to politicians. The NC's need to have more community involvement. Last time I went to vote, there was a flyer for a community meeting. I asked the lady, "What happens at these things?" She said, "Why, your not going to go anyway." What crap. She is absolutely right though, if these groups do not fight for more community involvement, we really won't be interested in attending. Many of us think that the NC in El Sereno is run by Villaragosa thugs. I have heard good things from the Eagle Rock and Boyle Heights NC's...

Eagle Rock NC has it's own core of ADV toadies but has had so many resignations (mostly from people fed up with contending with that group), that they barely function or have a quorum.
ADV's field deputy over that area was seen screaming at the NC president there -- outside a meeting a few weeks back -- over some problem he had with the way she was running the meeting. AND THEN, just a few days later SHE resigned (she was a Hertzberg endorser, and about the 3rd or 4th president to resign this board year).

This is a red flag. Isn't there an ethics department that oversees the treatment of NC's by politicians and their staff? It sounds as if the NC president was being bullied, possibly because of the Hertzberg endorsemnt. How sad, in this day and age, the NC's experiences sound as if they are bullied by commies. The councils can't, but their officers can, as private citizens -- and most NC presidents who have endorsed are in Hahn's column.
They've worked with him, they know he's attentive, deals with their issues, and puts a lot of stock into using their networks to reach communities. He kept their budgets intact, when others got squeezed -- and not to pander to them (since "they" can't endorse...)
What do you expect, when Times first profiled ADV the writer said he "won the general election" in 2001 -- not the primary.

The difference between 2005 and 2003 is that people now see just how INSINCERE and INEFFECTIVE Villaraigosa is. He fooled most of the people in CD14 in 2003, but his inability to get ANYTHING done is being mentioned in every news account now -- the fooling stops now.
I have gathered some research of the Southwest Voter registration. This is what I have so far. I have spoken to over 100 people, usually at the Lincoln Hts. Park baseball games, weekday and weekends. I have gathered from this 62 people that will go on record commenting about the Southwest voter registration and what they witnessed or experienced. I have the names, addresses, phone numbers, and their comment, plus their signatures. Can someone please tell me, where do I send this data to and to who's attention. Many of the comments are negative about the voter registration, some comments are in Spanish. BTW, certain persons felt compelled to comment about the councilman and their disgust, also when Gloria Molina showed up, there is so much negative experience, but I wrote everything, and they signed after the comments. I video taped 11 people on one day, the rest are written comments.

Ultimatum from CA State Lands to the Hahns
On Wednesday, May 11th, EAA received a copy of a letter dated May 6, 2005 , (reprinted below) addressed to Port of LA Commission President Tonsich regarding some plum projects Mayor Hahn and his sister have been working furiously to deliver to their own community in San Pedro. In this letter, the State Lands Commission advised Nick Tonsich in no uncertain terms that POLA’s approval and intention to move forward on the “welcome park” and “charter high school” does not comply with the trust agreement in effect between the State of California and the City of Los Angeles . State Lands respectfully advised the Commission to not only stop work on both projects forthwith, but also to sell the property already purchased for this “welcome park”. The trust that allows the City of Los Angeles to operate the Port of Los Angeles requires the profits from this Port be used either to directly mitigate the effects of operating the Port in the area of the Port or that they be used for the welfare of the State in general, not a specific community. Hahn cannot claim ignorance of this issue because, as City Attorney, he was involved in a previous instance of violation of this trust while Riordan was Mayor and he knows that this resulted in City taxpayers having to repay 10’s of millions of dollars to the Port for a similar infraction.
We wonder why this information has not been distributed publicly even though it is in the hands of the Harbor Commission as well as top management at the Port.

Does the Mayor want to wait until after next Tuesday’s election to let his own district know that he has apparently once again bungled the projects he and his sister have pledged to their neighbors and friends?
Or, even more cynically, have Hahn and his little sister decided that since the lawsuit that would result from these actions wouldn’t be settled until after the ends of their terms, they couldn’t care less if taxpayers all over the city were then forced to pay for the projects that they’ve placed in the neighborhoods where they live?

Joe Ramallo wakes up Villaraigosa from a power nap to prep him for a phone interview. Villaraigosa takes the phone, has a lively chat with the interviewer, tosses the phone to Ramallo and falls back to sleep. Ramallo says, “I swear, he could do interviews in his sleep…!”
When asked about his own attendance at the education committee meetings, Villaraigosa said "I've tried to make as many of the meetings as possible and will continue to do that."
Joe Ramallo, a spokesman for Villaraigosa, said major issues involving governance of the L.A. schools have not gone through the committee.

This is a few days old, but VERY telling about the reliability of the L.A. Times latest poll:

Basically it shows that nearly one out of every 10 voters favoring EITHER mayoral candidate (identical numbers for Hahn or ADV), consider corruption an ASSET, not a liability.
Supposedly this poll has a margin of error of only about 4 percent, but this seems to strongly suggest their numbers are off WAY more than that, or else quite a few people questioned were very confused or intentionally trying to jerk the poll off its axis for fun or profit.
Most likely it means the MOE is several times what they claim...
Someone seems to like the little math problems they keep posting -- A+B=C, Here's an equation that defines the candidate very well.
So the Breeze reports that ADV wiped his calendars clean of campaign activities. Campaign confirms, saying they don't have to show that stuff.
Earlier, the Times reports on these same calendars and says ADV's show that he spent nearly all his time - for most of the past year - on campaign activities (while getting paid $140K to be a full time councilmember -- but that's another equation). Note, though that the Times fails to mention there are no specifics about these campaign activities (representing most of his released information) -- an omission that adds proof to the argument the Times is going easier on ADV (also another "equation").
ADV then beats Hahn up for not releasing his calendars, so he does -- and Times reports that unline ADV, he has "balanced" his time between city work and campaign.
But, if ADV spent almost ALL of his time campaigning, and purged those specifics, then WHAT information exactly was he actually releasing? Absolutely nothing -- nearly blank calendars, with just placeholders for campaign time.
Yet another bogus campaign trick to try and embarrass the other guy, without ever really being forthcoming himself -- when what SHOULD have been an embarrassment -- to ADV, was the fact that he was stealing city money every time he deposited his paycheck. AND, the information ADV his was the VERY same kind of details
EQ: Something (ADV's calendars) - nearly everything (his campaign time) = almost nothing (delivery on promises).
The more "open" and forthcoming this guy claims to be the more deceitful he actually is -- more weasel words and equivocations from this "all show" talker who has accomplished nothing in two full years.
"I voted against it, but then voted for it."
"I promised not to do that, but was 'compelled' to break that promise."
"I support public education but avoid using it myself. My opponent runs from educational issues, but entrusts his family to LAUSD."

"My opponent is MIA, but I missed more council and committee meetings than any of my peers."

"My opponent is under investigation, but I wipe clean from my calendars the information investigators are most likely to want to see."
Enough -- there is no cure on the market for ADV's allergic reaction to the truth!
Hahn is already a better option to never being told the truth, and we can do even better in four years.

One of the gazillion L.A. Times reporters working the Mayor's race got a confirmation from a union leader that she witnessed a Hahn operative actually asking Charles Lester for permission to say "it was Miguel's wish that Latinos vote for Hahn."

In case anyone caught that slam a bit ago about the two gentlemen with Hispanic surnames having rumors thrown around about their personal lives -- this is a PRIME example.
These are two elected neighborhood council presidents who had the NERVE to endorse someone other than ADV -- traitors to their race, to la raza! How dare they!
So now there's payback.
This ALSO goes hand in hand with the OTHER NC president who resigned about being ripped a new one by ADV's CD14 field staff -- she ALSO endorsed someone OTHER than ADV for mayor. She was seen in the parking lot of the ER library taking verbal abuse from CD field staff -- and it now GONE from the NC system.
This is the payback, the "code," the OMERTA, that CD14 people have been talking about. Just like in the story books. And then you ask WHY ARE YOU ALL ANONYMOUS -- come out and make your accusations publicly.

If the LA Times weren't paid Antonio lovers they would have done a story on these incompetent field staffers. All they would have to do is go to ANY community meeting and they would see for themselves. You should of seen how CD14 staff was treating volunteers at their so called day of service. Gabby and her Dike girl friend Sarno were such Bitches to every one. They didn’t even have food for any of their volunteers. I hope they do go to City Hall and get the hell out of El Sereno.
