Morning Briefs and Outtakes for a "Huevos with Huizzy" Friday in Boyle Heights

"Not that question!!"
As a public service to the "invited, connected pansies" in Boyle Heights, here are some tough questions to ask the "funding source", as you get a break from your government funded non-profits and make your way to feed on some taypayer funded huevos, with Councilman Jose Huizar.
Questions:
1. Can we have a "moment of silence" for the birds who meet their demise at the Hollenbeck Park Fireworks Show ??
2. How many liquor licences have you supported since being elected councilman ??
3. What family member was associated with Oscar's Bar ??
4. How many residents will be displace in your haste to gentrify Boyle Heights ??
5. Does USC's David Galaviz get to take over Ramona Gardens ??
6. Will you support David Galaviz someday to replace you as councilman ??
7. Will you pledge to audit all government funded non-profits in CD-14 ??
8. What is the status of the CLART Fund ??
9. What is your favorite Boyle Heights non-profit and why ??
10. How long before you crack down on illegal street merchants ??
11. Have you ever disagree with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on any policy issue ??
12. Have you been to Florida lately to discuss Wyvernwood ??
13. How much money will you get from the Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council in the 2009/2010 fiscal year ??
14. Are any CD-14 constituents under investigation by your offices for disagreeing with you ??
15. Who are the new staffers??
16. Will you audit the work of non-profits like "Homeboy Industries", "SEA", and "Legacy LA" who were awarded gang contracts ??
17. ...........and where do we donate to your re-election to maintain our non-profit funding ??
(reserved for Raul Estrada, Ozzie Lopez, and Lou Calanche).
CD-14 Disclaimer: The risk of asking these questions included the following; exclusion from future "Huevos with Huizzy", loss of non-profit funding, no toys for your non-profit Christmas programs, deletion from e-mail updates by the newest staffer,.......and the worst, expulsion from "Huevos with Huizzy" by LAPD or General Services Police.
Other News:
** "Senator Antonio Villaraigosa" ?? That is the premise of the Downtown Garment and Citizen Editor Jerry Sullivan as he touts the Mayor as a possible replacement for Dianne Feinstein in 2012. Maybe that is why the Mayor travels the world on the Special Interest dime, to fine tune his foreign policy portfolio (remember the "Latino Tony Blair" ??).
** Eastsider LA has the latest on the lovable bunch known as the Echo Park Neighborhood Council with David Galaviz friend, Jose Sigala presiding. Considering how Sigala ran the Rudy Bermudez for State Senate campaign, it is not surprising that the Echo Park NC has become the latest dysfunctional poster boy on what ails the Neighborhood Council Program.
** Wonder how Mayor Sam diversity trainer/ poster "Archie Bunker" would respond if his favorite ex City Controller/ Councilwoman. Laura Chick, were to run for governor ?? Former Fabian Nunez spokesperson Steve Maviglio has her on his list of democrats he thinks could run for the state's top political office.
** KFI's Eric Leonard is reporting that AEG is making overtures to the LAPD, seeking to donate some camera platform proceeds to a LAPD charity that is use to buy equipment for police use. Still, mum is the word on the investigation by City attorney Carmen Trutanich into possible criminal misconduct regarding the non-permitted Jackson Memorial. More on this story from OurLA.org, and TMZ.
** KTLA Channel 5 reporter Eric Spillman is becoming the visual media version of fellow Tribune employee David Zahniser. Spillman post on his blog that he has filed a California Public Records Act request with the Mayor's Office, seeking information on the cost of the Mayor's travels. Then he is treated to these crypted responses from his questions about the Mayor's current vacation by Mayor Spokesperson Matt Szabo.
** The government watchdog group Judical Watch is suing the LAPD seeking to overturn Special Order 40. "There are two federal laws and a California state law that we think are being violated as a result of the sanctuary policy that obviously helps illegal aliens avoid detection," Judicial Watch's Tom Fitton says".
** Former Councilman Nick Pacheco Campaign Manager and Montebello City Councilman Robert Urteaga is awaiting the decision from the Montebello City Clerk, if the Recall Petition against him and Councilwoman Kathy Salazar garnered the require signatures.
** The surly blogger from Mar Vista Hill and supposed Pulitzer Winner known as the "Westside White Guy" Kevin Roderick, takes issues to a story in Ron Kaye's fledging "OurLA.org Website". Could it be that "Pulitzer" sees Kaye's endeavor as a fact-laden counter to his West LA centric view of civic life east of the 405 ??

Pre-Dawn Missives for Thursday

***Special Order 40 lives on to "protect" a growing
underclass of people in the City of Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Rolf M. Treu, granting a motion from the city and the American Civil Liberties Union, said Harold Sturgeon failed to prove that "Special Order 40" was in conflict with federal and state laws that dictate the flow of information between local and federal agencies regarding people's immigration status. as excerpted from the Los Angeles Times. No shortage of comments on this issue for sure.
***BREAKING NEWS!! Supreme Court strikes down Washington D.C. Handgun Ban. Big Victory for Pro Gun Advocates.***
***What is it about Charter Schools who's name start with the word Academia?? We all know about the antics and teaching at Academia Semillas del Pueblo. But now Highland Park based Academia Avance is in the news for serious issues which caused pause in their Charter Renewal. And in both cases who was their most outspoken supporter on the LAUSD Board of Education?? "Big hint", Rosie O'Donnell, enough said.

***Memo to Councilman Dennis Zine, KFI 640 AM reporter Eric Leonard has audio of certain staffers based on the "third Floor" who are heard laughing at comments by "April Ass Clown Award Winner" Chief Bill Bratton that regarded your efforts to revise Special Order 40. (Link to KFI's John and Ken Show during 3:00 hour.)
***City Beat has earned the moniker of "City Weak"

***Call this a "Bloggin Pile On", DWP General Manager H. David Nahai in his brief reign as the "Shah of Water and Power" has quickly become the "Poster Boy" of what a Department Head should not be in the City of Los Angeles.

Arrogant, Self Center, Aloof and Politically Asute is not the way to endear yourself to the taypayers who pay your $300,000 + salary. So with thanks to "Westchester Parents" and Ron Kaye's Blog we join the party in exposing H. David Nahai as the "Shah of Water Waste" for Public Official in the City of Los Angeles.
****Read today's Daily News Editorial how they were used..and abused, by "Shah Nahai"****
But shouldn't Nahai be forgiven for generously opening his home and his water usage to the public - a commitment to model good conservationist behavior?
Certainly, if that were the whole story.
The story behind that story, in fact, shows more political calculation than chagrin. Nahai's offer to the Daily News was nothing more than a clever pre-emptive strike against another reporter he considered a bother. For weeks Nahai had resisted requests from independent journalist, blogger and all-around muckraker Alan Mittelstaedt to turn over his water bills.
It was a reasonable request. The man who was resurrecting the water police and
portraying himself as a conservationist ought to be willing to be an example.
Nahai was annoyed by the request and the persistence of this journalist, and knew he would have to give up his wasting ways sooner or later. So he used a tactic common to clever public figures: He took his story elsewhere. Hah. Take that nosy Nelson!

H. David Nahai (DWP General Manager) - 434,220(a staggering 310% times more than my household!!) That household being Ron Kaye's resident.
Rocky Delgadillo (City attorney) - 423,368 gallons
Mayor Villaraigosa - 386,716 gallons
Jack Weiss - 254,320 gallons
Bill Rosendahl - 230,384 gallons
Tony Cardenas - 219,912 gallons
Greig Smith - 219,164 gallons
Dennis Zine - 194,480 gallons
Wendy Gruel - 190,740 gallons
Jose Huizar - 142,120 gallons
Eric Garcetti - 88,264 gallons
Janice Hahn - 83,776 gallons
Bernard Parks - 35,156 gallons

Taxpayers need to give Alan Mittelstaedt thanks for taking on the "Shah of Water and Power" and exposing his hypocritical actions.
***LAPD, General Services, and Private Security will provide on-site security at the City of Los Angeles 109th Street Pool, located in the "No-Man's Land" between the Nickerson Gardens and Jordan Downs Housing Projects. This pool was the scene of a rampage last weekend where pool staff came under assualt.

***........and this from a source in CD 14. A official from CalTrans who oversees State owned properties in El Sereno, South Pasadena, and Pasadena, quickly departed a meeting when informed that an "certain person" was invited. Apparently threats has been made against this official by a person with interest in CalTrans properties.

Metro, East, by Northeast Missives at Mid-Day

Quick missives for your lunch time reviewing.

Hundreds of local, state, and federal law enforcement officials descended on the Drew Street enclave of the Avenues Gang. With 10 SWAT Teams in tow, search warrants and arrests were made in this crackdown on this infamous clique of the Avenues Gang. A community meeting is schedule for this evening at Glassell Park Community Center.
Judge sides with City and ACLU regarding Special Order 40 lawsuit. Celeste at Witness L.A. has her take. (Caution!! Beware of Jackie Goldberg in picture.)

In Sacramento, legislation by State Senator Gloria Romero that would open personal files of Police Officers to the public went down to defeat in the Assembly's Public Safety Committee when three democrats (with common sense) Jose Solorio, Hector De La Torre and Anthony Portantino voted to abstain.

Tim Sands, president of the Police Protective League, which represents 9,300 LAPD rank-and-file officers, said he was pleased that "this bad piece of legislation was stopped." He reiterated the union's stance that the department's discipline system allows sufficient civilian oversight. The league launched a radio campaign that was highly critical of the proposed law, and Sands, in a recent interview, accused Romero of throwing a "legislative temper tantrum."

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa who supported Romero's efforts was "outrage" with the results.

More Villaraigosa, announced his support of a half-cent sale tax hike to pay for transit and traffic projects. He joins his friend David Fleming and the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce who forgot about market based solutions to fund these types of projects.

Hundreds turned out last night at Lincoln Park in CD 1 to discuss Hillside Development. Most were on the side of opposing rampant development favored by the likes of Councilman Ed "Density" Reyes and the "COUNCILMAN LAST SEEN AS JOSE HUIZAR". No wonder why neither were seen despite the turnout.
........and this from the LA Weekly aka "WEEKLY OF RECORD".
By Christine Pelisek
The Mayor's Office is denying to the Weekly reports on other local websites that he has a long-concealed tattoo, reading “Born To Raise Hell.” Antonio got slammed on Tuesday by the Mayor Sam blog over a controversy boiling over in the Los Angeles Fire Department, first reported right here, in which firefighters are being ordered to wear long sleeves or even bandages to cover their tattoos.
After the Daily News wrote about the controversy on Tuesday, Mayor Sam went to town slamming the LAFD’s “no show” tattoo policy, then wrote:
"And it's amazing to consider, when we have a mayor who reportedly never is seen without his shirt off nor wearing short sleeves because he sports gang tattoos from his youth."
Gang tattoos? If only! The allegation stems from a website called Bruin Alumni Association, which insists the
mayor got his tattoo while a radical student at UCLA.
But nah, says Antonio's office. The mayor doesn’t sport a tattoo now. However, his office wasn't sure whether he had one before. Who knows what the real deal is here, so please weigh in if you know.
Mirthala can settle this...........

Westside White Guy Slams Jamiel as Gang Member

Kevin Roderick - the epitome of suburban white mypoia - has decided he can oh so coyly tag hate crime victim, the assassinated Jamiel Shaw as a gang member, part of the liberal effort to take the heat off Special Order 40 that is coming from many corners. In quoting an LA Times story on the preliminary hearing WWG posts:

Testimony on Jamiel Shaw's gang ties

When he was killed, the teenager wore a red belt emblazoned with black skulls and a crudely written "20," used by the Rollin' 20s and had some of the gang's images on his iPod, an LAPD officer testified. A neighbor also said Shaw had friends in the gang and was known by the nickname "Deuces Wild," and a detective testified that Shaw's girlfriend told police he was a gang member.

What Westside White Guy doesn't tell is that 1) Jamiel's parents, friends and relatives have consistently said Jamiel was not a gang member, 2) Police officers, as mentioned in the story, are not convinced Jamiel was a banger and, 3) the judge in the hearing has ruled out the use of any information that paints Jamiel as a gangster.

Maybe this is how you win Pulitzers.

Blood on Chief Bratton's Hands?

LAPD Chief William Bratton continues to put his head in the sand when it comes to at least one of the motivations behind gang violence in Los Angeles: race. Whether it comes to Special Order 40 or the motive for the murder of Jamiel Shaw, the Police Chief arrogantly and irrationally denies that race could ever be a factor.

On the other hand Sheriff Lee Baca is more realistic and feels that - according to the LA Times - "racial animus among various gangs a serious problem that is not being discussed enough." If we continue to follow Bratton into a mire of political correctness a lot more innocent people are going to die. Does the Chief want that blood on his hands?

Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Friday

Joseph Mailander has a great piece detailing how Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's re-election chances are in trouble. An interesting note that Joe makes, of the folks around town he talks to the one remark he keeps hearing over and over again is people who say they won't vote for the Mayor "again."

The lawsuit against Special Order 40 is still on for now as a Judge heard arguments but took no action when attorneys for the ACLU and the City asked him to drop the suit. Superior Court Judge Rolf M. Treu is taking the request under advisement and may issue a ruling later in the case filed by Los Angeles resident Harold P. Sturgeon against Police Chief William Bratton and members of the Police Commission.

It's been five years since the Los Angeles Children's Museum was supposed to open in Hansen Dam and it's nowhere near ready to open. Following a series of delays and funding missteps who knows when the museum will open it's doors to children. As aptly noted by the Pasadena Star News, a child who was 9 years old when the old museum closed will be in college assuming the museum opens on the next deadline. One of the big issues is that the politics of the day forced locating the museum in Hansen Dam, far from almost all children in the City when a better location would have been adjacent to North Hollywood , Universal City or Hollywood/Highland Metro Red Line stations which would be far more central to most of the population and have a better top of mind awareness for fund raising.

The useless VICA/VEDC Valley business crowd types are on board with a sales tax increase, presumably for transit. Like the cell phone tax increase, always for a "worthy" purpose, these tax increases they bend over to the politicians to support will do nothing but harm small business and consumers and then be wasted on boondoggle products with cost overruns, budget delays and little to show for it. Next on the docket: a property tax increase for "gang" intervention.

The Heartfelt Words of a Dad: Jamiel Shaw, Sr. Responds to Smear Campaign

For the last few days, the editorial staff at Mayor Sam has received and rejected numerous slanderous comments trying to make the claim that murdered teenager Jamiel Shaw was a gang member, and hence he was killed because of his gang affiliation, not his race. The pro-Special Order 40 crowd has a strange need to maintain their position by creating this apparent falsehood.

Jamiel Shaw, Sr. has told me that Jamiel was not a gang banger. So has Walter Moore. I believe them.

The person making this claim has no credibility with me or many readers of this blog.

Those who are behind this should be ashamed of themselves. Your tarnishing the memory of a beloved individual, a minor child, who is no longer with us. What did he do to you?

Until I see otherwise, I believe Mr. Shaw. Below are his words that he has asked me to share with you:

To the Person or Persons trying to smear my son:

My son Jamiel A. Shaw, II, (Jas) was a SuperStar Destined for Greatness! The Mayor of Los Angeles spoke these exact words at his last State of the City speech. He was right! My Son was destined for greatness and he is, "A SuperStar"!

It's a shame, that an American Citizen youth, can be gunned down by an illegal alien gang banger, while his mother is fighting a war to defend all of us, and some people have the nerve to try and destroy my son? This makes me angry. My son is the victim! For every person that want to label my son as a hard core gang banger, I can get 100 more that will show that he was not.

Why would some people want to label my son as a gang banger? Why are some people willing to do almost anything to bring my son down? Where is the evidence to support that my son is a gang banger? Michelle Hansee didn't have evidence to prove that he was a gang banger. A spiderman back pack and a belt? I'm not even a lawyer and I know you need more then this.

So where is the evidence?! A Myspace page? I see a picture of my son on myspace making the peace sign...and some words that you say...he said? Please, give me a damn break. Now my son is a hardcore gang banger? Because of a myspace page? Are you kidding me? This is similiar to the picture when Obama was oversees and had on a certain garment. Some people tried to label him as a Muslim. Some people are protecting illegal alien gang bangers and they need my son to be a gang member in order to help their case. But he wasn't! He was and is, innocent!

The person arrested for killing my son is an illegal alien gang banger. A Documented illegal alien, and a documented gang banger. So where is the evidence? Well let's see, "he was release from jail on March 1, 2008 on gun charges. He had prior arrests before March 1, 2008. It is a known fact that he was not born in the United States and he's in the gang database". We all know he wasn't a boy scout. Why doesn't this make you angry? Why would this make you want to smear my son? Are you out killing people too? Are you an illegal alien gang banger? What's up with you?

Twenty eight hours after Pedro Espinoza was released from jail, he's seen in my neighborhood and now my son is dead. Even if my son wrote the words on myspace, where is the proof that Pedro Espinosa saw this? All he saw was a black kid walking. I continue to repeat, why are you trying to convict my son? Why are you defending illegal alien gang bangers? Could it be that you are illegal. Could it be that you are trying to smear my son because you support Special Order 40? Could it be that you are trying to smear my son because you don't want to see Jamiel's law passed? Could it be that you are a gang banger or a gang banger wannabe?

There are people that want to classify all black kids as gang bangers. We're not going to let this happen! The Community will not let this happen! To any parent reading this, if anyone tries to make your child out to be a gang banger and you know that they are not, please speak up! Don't let the system or anyone else try and smear your child! Especially when you child is not able to defend themselves. We will always defend the honor of my beloved son, Jamiel Andre' Shaw, II!

The fact is, my son was born at California Hospital. He was an American Citizen. He was raised in Los Angeles, California. He went to school in the neighborhood. He played sports all over the State. He is a documented athlete. His mother was in the Army fighting a war! I was home taking care of him. His brother loves him very much! His family love and miss him dearly! He was loved by many! My son was gunned down and shot to death! He is an INNOCENT VICTIM. He was gunned down three doors from home. He played on the very street where an illegal gang banger killed him. He was murdered!

This was a HATE CRIME! Anyone trying to bring my son down is someone that is not ready for the facts or the truth. The evidence will prove this and the facts will come out.

There are people that support Special Order 40 and some people don't want Jamiel's Law to pass. Is this why they want to discredit my son? Could this be why they attact Walter Moore and Michael Higby and all of the other people that speak out against illegal immigration? Why are people trying so hard to make my son a gang banger? This is an important question.

Whoever want's to find evidence on my son should talk with the Gang Intervention Unit at LAPD. You should talk with Gang Intervention Specialists. My son was not in a gang database. My son was never arrested. My son was killed while he was on his way home. He was walking and talking on the telephone. He is innocent!

If you have the evidence to prove that my son was a gang banger, then call Pedro Espinoza's defense team and see if they will hire you. Until then, shut the hell up!

Jamiel Sr.

Zuma Dogg Talks Special Order 40 with Mayor Villaraigosa

Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Monday

A FoxNews report on a gang member who claims he has been paid by Councilmember Janice Hahn for "gang intervention programs" is creating a huge buzz around City Hall. The gang member who has been arrested for issues ranging from indecent exposure to possession of marijuana and said that Hahn assisted him in getting out of jail. Now the individual has been convicted to life in prison in a rape case. Some community activists are calling for District Attorney Steve Cooley to investigate Hahn's actions and gang intervention projects funding. The report also details other gang members who have received gang intervention funds and police officers who claim that these gang members bragged about their city funding and laugh at Hahn for the irony of it all.

Those who wish Jamiel Shaw, Sr. would stop crusading in favor of Jamiel's Law and against Special Order 40 protection for gang members are getting more desperate. First off, as we reported here in an exclusive interview on the Sister City, the father of an innocent youth allegedly murdered by an illegal alien gang member said he had been "offered a better paying job" in order to give up the campaign for Jamiel's Law. Now, Shaw has told KFI's John and Ken that District Attorney prosecutors have threatened to paint a very different picture of his son's life who was not a gang member.

Hal Netkin chronicles Council Member Dennis Zine's flip flops on Special Order 40 over the years. I remember several years ago attending a Community Police Advisory Board meeting when Zine was still head of the Police Protective League. At the time Zine called for the elimination of Special Order 40 as one way police officers would be able to fight gang crime.

Gloria Molina is going against taco truck operators in unincorporated portions of Los Angeles County, including East Los Angeles. However Molina has found a gabacho led effort to save the trucks which dispense delicious regional specialties and often server as community gathering spots for Latin immigrants wishing a brief reconnection with the old country.

Britney Spears left her LA home to return to her native Kentwood, Louisiana for her 17 year old sister's baby shower. This is the first time that Spears had visited her hometown since 2006.

BREAKING NEWS!!! Jamiel Shaw Sr. claim D.A. threats to taint his son as "gangbanger" for his crusade against Special Order 40.

****Link here to the KFI Podcast page, then click on the 5/2, 6:00 PM "John and Ken Show" labeled Jamiel Shaw, for audio.

Jamiel Shaw Sr. is on KFI's "John and Ken Show" with the startling story of Deputy D.A. Michelle Henisee and her stance made to him for maintaining the status-quo in regards to Special Order 40 and the repercussions that would result if Shaw Sr. continue his crusade for Jamiel's Law.

In the same conservation Henisee made some not so veil insinuations that the D.A. office would paint a portrait of Jamiel Shaw Jr. that is contrary to reality. One where Shaw is type casted as a red wearing, gang member who character is different from what has been portray in the multi media forums.

Currently, District Attorney Steve Cooley is on the air doing spin control on the actions of his prosecutor in this case. Shaw Sr. is standing by his story on the actions pertaining to the actions of Henisee.

Shaw Sr. in his brief appearance before Cooley called in, paints a picture of a political community that is adamant in maintaining the status quo regarding Special Order 40. He sights repeated visits and calls from the likes of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, council members, and their respective staffs.

We invite Jamiel Shaw Sr., Walter Moore or other reps of the family to email further information to redspotincd14@yahoo.com for prompt posting on this thread.

"Hurricane" Jackie Goldberg Uses Kids as Props in Campaign Against Jamiel's Law

When you look up "radical lefty" in the dictionary, Jackie Goldberg's picture is right there. The former 60s Berkeley radical turned schoolteacher, school board member, Clowncil member and then state legislator is about as hard nosed a liberal as they come. Even liberals say, "Wow, she's liberal!"

So that's why it was no surprise this morning when "Hurricane" Jackie showed up to Council Chambers with kids in tow wearing pro Special Order 40 t-shirts. Zuma Dogg on the scene phoned this tip into us; when he asked Hurricane what she was up to she replied "I'm here for the kids!"

Aren't they all?

Zuma promises video later today. Stay tuned.

Sunday Notes on Illegal Immigration

The following are a few recent items concerning the topic of illegal immigration. Publishing them does not necessarily I agree with any of the views expressed.

The former Fishwrap of Record may have got cold feet about allowing comments on their piece logging 40 views on Special Order 40. According to Mayoral candidate Walter Moore, the Times deleted his comments as well as those of others. Maybe there were too many comments from Don Quackers?

Debate continues over our comment whether Edwin Rivera, the alleged shooter of SWAT Officer Randall Simmons, was an illegal alien or not. Though the Los Angeles Times reported Rivera's uncle as saying he was born in the United States, a story on an El Salvador newspaper site quotes his sister as saying that Edwin was born during a return visit to El Salvador after the family had first emmigrated to the US. Another site with a now expired link quotes another story from elsalvador.com that alleges that Edwin was undocumented. Whether or not Rivera was ever illegal; it is clear that the shooting of Simmons - unlike Jamiel - was not related to gang violence.

A report by a Tuscon television station claims that while a significant number of US born Latinos are opposed to illegal immigration and efforts to provide amnesty, most are afraid of speaking out for fear of being ostracized by others. "There are a lot of Hispanics that are upset about the illegasl just the same way as the Anglo population," a third-generation Mexican-American told KVOA television.

A report by Men's Health says that 59% of Americans see illegal immigration as a "very serious" problem and that 74% find the impact of illegal immigration to be negative.

Open Thread for Sunday

In the race to find a reason to oppose Jamiel's Law local politicians try to point to the validity of Special Order 40 by saying that the move was none other than the brainchild of controversial former LAPD Chief Daryl Gates. It appears Gates is no longer on the Special Order 40 train. Though he feels that fighting gangs requires a far more holistic approach than just Jamiel's Law (and I don't think Walter Moore or Jamiel Shaw, Sr. would disagree with that), Gates says Special Order 40 "has been following me all these years" and "was written at a different time in (the city's) history."

In other news related to Gates one of our readers noted that the former Chief received cheers at the funeral for slain Officer Randall Simmons (like Jamiel he too murdered by illegal aliens) "a slap" to current Chief William Bratton.

Special Order 40 Press Conference - Monday at 11 a.m.

Nativo Lopez 3

There is a press conference tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. in front of Parker Center with the Mexican American Political Association (MAPA), Hermandad Mexicana Lationamericana (HML), the Labor Community Strategy Center (LCSC) and other civil and immigrant rights organizations. They are urging the Mayor of Los Angeles and the City Council to reject the Zine/Smith amendments to Special Order 40.

Click here for the full statement released by the groups; below is an abbreviated version by MAPA and HML National President, Nativo V. Lopez:

“The ‘tough on crime’ posture of many city leaders is fostering right wing, anti-immigrant forces in the region. It’s twisting the tragedy of violence in the streets and advancing policies that will weaken civil liberties and give the LAPD carte blanche to racially profile Chicanos, Latinos, immigrants and young people of color.

“I join others in calling upon Mayor Villaraigosa, the L.A. City Council and Chief Bratton to not only maintain Special Order 40 as written, but also to expand it. Los Angeles should be made to be a Sanctuary City for immigrants. While Mayor Villaraigosa’s 27 March letter to ICE concerning workplace raids is an important statement, we strongly oppose any open-ended invitation for ICE to crack down on so-called ‘immigrant criminals.’ It has been well documented that during the mass ‘anti-immigrant crime’ sweeps led by ICE last October, scores of people taken into custody were collateral arrests of immigrants innocent of any offense. As such, we collectively urge an unequivocal and sound rejection of the Zine/Smith motion, to assure all immigrants that they will not be targeted but rather protected inside the borders of the City of Los Angeles."

(Full Disclosure - I consult for both MAPA and HML.)

Frank Buckley on Jamiel's Law

KTLA's Frank Buckley has an interesting post on his blog about Jamiel's Law. Buckley talks about the Shaw's 18 year plan for Jamiel - which was on track remarkably until he was shot as part of an alleged Latino gang hit on a Black youth - the Shaws had for their son. He calls on law enforcement and elected officials to look at the issue of gang violence and the part that illegal immigration plays in it.

The downside is that Buckley buys and does not even challenge from a devil's advocate point of view the usual Bratton Special Order 40 Culver City Spin. However, I guess we have to be grateful that Jamiel's tragic death and the Shaw's amazing activism are at least getting the media and some folks talking.

Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Tuesday

Crime is down in the Valley but still up overall citywide. Despite a "moratorium" on murder called for by members of the City Council, a significant wave of murder and violence swept across LA this weekend. One thing city leaders could to make a big dent in gang violence is to support Jamiel's Law and at least give the Police the opportunity to thin out criminal illegal aliens from Los Angeles. The parents of Jamiel Shaw II - a young, innocent high school student allegedly shot by an illegal alien who had been released from jail hours before - are going to City Hall Tuesday morning to support the overturning of Special Order 40 for criminal illegal alien gangs.

I guess folks who work for doctors, hospitals, lawyers and accounts that have celebrity clients think it's an employee benefit to search through stars' personal records. Previously, over a dozen workers at UCLA Medical Center were busted for snooping through the medical files of Britney Spears. A new report says that months before that several others at UCLA browsed records for actress Farrah Fawcett, who has been battling cancer. Particularly troubling for Fawcett was that news of her illness was covered by tabloids before she could inform her family. UPDATE: The KENNEDY REPUBLICAN's medical records were also snooped in!

A few years back, editorial cartoonist Michael Ramirez was dropped by the Fishwrap of Record and moved onto Investors Business Daily. Now he gets the last laugh - he's won a Pulitzer Prize. And yes unlike some others who claim the journalism award, Mike has his name on the trophy.

I'm not sure if anyone even is paying attention, but the Mayor's State of the City speech is coming up next Monday. Rick Orlov is saying its going to be nothing more than a repeat of last year's speech. So I suggest you tune in instead to the latest episode of "Big Bang Theory," when Leonard and Sheldon meet a 15-year-old physics prodigy, Sheldon is distraught that this boy genius is younger and smarter, so in an attempt to restore his sense of purpose, the boys come up with a solution to derail Dennis ' research.

Zero tolerance and political correctness have rum amok at a Colorado elementary school. An eight year old boy was suspended for coloring a part of his sleeve with a Sharpie and then apparently smelling the ink. However, you can't get high from sniffing a Sharpie.

Foothill Cities Blog snared an interview with California State Senate Candidate Carol Liu. If you read the interview you'll walk away with gems like one of Liu's qualities of an effective legislator: "the rise to a position (or positions) of power within the institution." Yea, that's exactly what we want is legislators spending their time jockeying for personal power instead of solving problems, or even better, get out of the way.

Last week we were treated to a David Markland April Fools' joke that he was really - as Zuma Dogg refers to him - my new friend Eric Garcetti. But the real CityNerd is apparently back online at his invitation only blog. So who is CityNerd? I don't know for sure but my money is on this guy.

Big battle between charter schools, regular schools and the LAUSD over classroom space. A recent court order forced the District to offer up the most amount space ever. Still many charter schools may have to split between multiple campuses and some traditional campuses feel squeezed by sharing facilities with the semi-autonomous schools.

We missed it, but Monday was Jerry Brown's 70th birthday. How did the former and possibly once again Governor Moonbeam spend his special day? With his wife at a trappist monastery. Ah, some things never change! Should we have bought him a Plymouth?

Shaw Family Headed to City Hall to Support Jamiel's Law

When Walter Moore first introduced Jamiel's Law, the usual third and fourth floor spin chamber (and their wannabe friends) dum dums put keyboards in motion to make the racist claim that there was no way that an African-American family who lost their teenage son to a criminal illegal alien gang banger was going to join with a White man to oppose the City's controversial Special Order40 policy at least against criminal illegal aliens, most of whom prey on black and brown neighborhoods.

They couldn't have been more wrong.

Last week, the parents of Jamiel Shaw, Jamiel Sr. and Anita, appeared with Moore on KABC's McIntyre in the Morning program to voice their support for Jamiel's Law. Since then there have been more appearances on all of the talk radio programs of record such as KRLA's Kevin James and KFI's Bill Handel.

Many local pols are not sure what to think about Jamiel's Law nor is it even certain they "get it." It's clear that many do not understand the depth of the feeling on the issue in the community. Ben Golombek, Communications Deputy for Councilwoman Wendy Greuel, reportedly spoke with one of our tipsters and said, "Who is Walter Moore? He is not elected to any post. He can not introduce legislation." (To see how patently absurd that statement is, view the history of "Megan's Law" which was not initiated by any elected officials.)

In my view, the reason for the hyper-activity out of Camp Spin-a-Raigosa and associated parties is there is a hugh fear of the fact that 1) African Americans are speaking up against Special Order 40 and 2) That Walter Moore is gaining considerable additional traction for his Mayoral campaign with this issue, and is even beginning to percolate beyond the blog-LA-sphere. Both notions scare the bejesus out of the Mayor.

Number 1 is particularly concerning. Its part of this liberal attitude, which is both hypocritical and racist at the same time, that minorities, particularly African Americans owe their complete and full allegiance to the Democratic party and liberal orthodoxy. Any deviation by an African American is considered treason and grounds for you to become the target of what would be considered absolutely a racist attack if it came from a conservative Caucasian. The Democrats and Liberals, supposedly the party of diversity and tolerance, are anything but when it comes to deviation from the lock step party line. There is no "Big Tent" within the Donkey party. We even see this with the attacks on minorities and women who do not support Hillary Clinton from the New York Senator, her husband the former philandering President and their minions such as James Carville.

Getting back to the Shaws, indeed, any thought they are not on board with the push for Jamiel's Law is wiped out by the fact that the Shaws are going to speak in favor of Jamiel's Law at Tuesday's Clowncil meeting. They will appear at City Hall to give their full support to Jamiel's law and are encouraging the community to join them.

Please help us change the law. As you know, our son, Jamiel A. Shaw,II was murdered on March 2, 2008. Now we are trying to fight back, but we need your help!

On April 8, 2008, at 10:00 a.m., The Shaw Family will be going to City Hall to speak to the Council Members about 'JamielsLaw'. We are asking you to please visit the website, 'JamielsLaw.com'. If you agree with JamielsLaw, we are asking you to support us and join us!!

Forget DWP or anything else going on. This is the number one political problem for Antonio Villaraigosa right now. The usual team will be going full force to put a stop to it. Let's hope that Walter Moore, the Shaws and their supporters go all the way. A move to help prevent the death of innocent teenagers is too important to let the usual LA politics quash it.

Family of Jamiel Shaw to voice support for "Jamiel's Law" on Doug McIntyre tomorrow morning

The family of Jamiel Shaw will join KABC 790 AM host Doug McIntyre on his show tomorrow morning.

This is in response to Walter Moore and Larry Elder's program on the follies of Special Order 40.

The family will voice support for Walter Moore's efforts to amend the controversial order that was created by former Police Chief Gates.

As posted by Walter this morning:

The announcement is actually Wednesday morning, not Tuesday morning. Jamiel's Law applies ONLY to gang members. We should all be able to agree that gang members -- like the one who murdered Jamiel Shaw -- do NOT deserve "sanctuary city" protection.

Official Negligence

The LAPD Chief’s New Clothes

Had our elected representatives an ounce of warm blood in their collective veins today, the story of Jamiel Shaw would have sent them scrambling for a microphone to be the first to beg for our forgiveness.

The cold-blooded murder of a true rising star—a kid who beat the odds of his own neighborhood, only to be gunned down by a foreign national with a domestic rap sheet—would not be tolerated in any other country, let alone world-class city. Sadly, leadership in Los Angeles is guided by a game of numbers, and in this instance, an ethno-political calculation that bleeds red ink.

If the mayor of Los Angeles is in town today, would someone please relay the news that there’s a crisis in his streets, on his watch?
