Another LAFD Scandal and City Hall Still Lacks Proactive Transparency

By Daniel Guss

@TheGussReport - Back in October, The Guss Report broke the story about a sexual harassment investigation at the LAFD in which its likely next chief, Armando Hogan, was accused by at least one high-profile civilian colleague of misconduct.

City Hall politicians and their media flacks stonewalled my questions, to the detriment of their ever-eroding credibility.

In January, both The Los Angeles Times and Los Angeles Magazine credited my accuracy and timeliness.

Now, it appears that since January 29th, the same City Hall power players have stayed mum on another scandal at the troubled agency - a cheating scandal on a Captain I electronic test.
And that's not all that insiders are telling me.

City Hall Censoring Sexual Harassment Reporting on High-Ranking LAFD Karen Bass Fundraiser

By Daniel Guss

@TheGussReport - Well that didn't last long.

Despite syrupy promises of transparency and integrity by newly-minted interim City Council President Paul Krekorian in the wake of an ongoing City Hall racism scandal and stalemate with the two remaining Councilmembers who refuse to resign, ongoing efforts to relentlessly censor and retaliate against this column are in full bloom.

It's amazing what good inside sources and three recent appearances on "The John and Ken Show" on KFI AM 640 will do to stoke City Hall paranoia as it loses its grip on its secrecy habits just a few weeks ahead of a general election.

LA Must Protect Itself From Itself

By Daniel Guss

@TheGussReport - It's 2022 and Los Angeles has a narrow, approaching window to start fixing its copious political challenges and corruption.

Having watched a few decades of local elections, here is what LA needs to do to save itself from itself.

  1. Stop electing candidates based on their last name, skin tone and if they sound like an echo chamber of each other and the media.

  2. Take everything the Los Angeles Times says or endorses with a grain of salt…and tequila. Stop relying on its endorsements since it almost entirely serves as a protective public relations unit for liberal and left politicians and their ideas to the total lack of balance of other sides, opinions and candidates. It is worth noting that the Times has endorsed, or even repeatedly endorsed, virtually every candidate currently or recently facing recall.

  3. Start electing people from outside of the local political ecosystem. Encourage and elect those who have built something significant in the private sector. People who know what it’s like to make payroll in the face of illogical, oppressive and un-scientific government mandates. Think engineers, teachers (not school board members), healthcare professionals, private sector attorneys and the like. Elect reluctant politicians, not career ones.

Let’s repeat that: elect reluctant politicians, not career ones.

***

All the commotion so far about who is running for Mayor of LA and other offices is just that: chatter. It means nothing until February 7, 2022, when the candidate filing window opens to file a Declaration Of Intention to Become a Candidate. That narrow window closes less than a week later, on February 12. That’ll be the entirety of our options. People who fail to file will not make it onto the primary ballot.

Then there’s the race to gather 500 valid signatures by March 9, a rigged process designed to favor monied candidates. Those who submit at least a thousand votes for verification do not have to pay the $300 fee.

The Carbon-spewing Misadventures of "State Senate President Pro Tem Kevin De Leon the First"

We bring you the bloggin latest, Carbon-spewing Misadventures (ie Junkets) of "Greece on the Pacific's" Official "State Senate President Pro Tem Kevin De Leon the First", as he spreads life-giving CO2 to the far-off reaches of the Planet, in the name of combating Free Enterprise-causing Climate Change (allegedly).
The Official Low Carbon Footprint Moment of "State Senate President Pro Tem Kevin De Leon the First".
** Blogger's Note: Its not a "Greece on the Pacific (formerly Golden State)" State Secret that "State Senate President Pro Tem Kevin De Leon the First" believes in the Leftist Tenants of Redistribution of Wealth. But its coming more apparent as the reigning "State Senate President Pro Tem Kevin De Leon the First" travels the world, that he not above sharing taxpayers/business-financed Carbon Offsets in the form of life-giving CO2. Just returned from a Australian Junket to study the Continent/Nation of 25 Million People's drought response. the former Mt. Washington Couch Domiciling Assemblyman (via Carol Jacques home, allegedly), is off redistributing CO2 offsets as his "State Senate President Pro Temship" travels to London England for a one day presentation on the jobs-killing Senate Bill 350 Legislation. We ponder if the "Blue/Green Darling of the Sierra Club" will have his state-provided CHP Suburban awaiting him (with desired, inner climate control), upon his return ............, before his "State Senate President Pro Temship" and Governor Jerry "Moonbeam II" Brown, held off in December to the Paris "Economic Climate Change (via Carbon Redistrubution) Conference in December?----Scott Johnson.
"State Senate President Pro Tem Kevin De Leon the First" spreading life-giving CO2 as he travels the world, espousing Free Enterprise-ceasing Climate Change Legislation.
Regardless where and how long "State Senate President Pro Tem Kevin De Leon the First" ventures away in espousing Free Enterprise-killing Climate Change Legislation ............, a Cool Climate-controlled (with engine running) State CHP Suburban awaits his return.
Who needs ride-sharing with the "Blue/Green Masses" when you are "State Senate President Kevin De Leon the First"?
Meanwhile .........., something called "Season Change" is going on as normal, this afternoon at Mammoth Mountain.

Larry Elder on City Council Selective Censorship

The LA City Clowncil solved all of LA's problems and found a little extra time on their hand - so they decided to vote to ban Rush Limbaugh and KFI's John and Ken.

KABC host Larry Elder Facebook'ed up the following observations:

Hey, LA City Council, what about 'hate speech" on Spanish language radio? I hear that it's FAR more course and vulgar than local English language talk.

The normally reasonable--for a dem-- L.A. Councilman Dennis Zine, voted to condemn local talk radio. Nada about Maher, Garofolo, Moore, etc. C'mon, Zine!

LA City Council passes resolution condemning demeaning talk radio--gave examples, but Maher's use of the "c' word for Palin did not make the cut.

Evening Briefs on the Los Angeles Political Scene for Hump Day

City Councilman Mitch Englander and Joe Buscaino vote against racial double standard regarding KFI.
The terms "Crack Ho", "Slut" and "Whore", which were uttered on KFI 640 A.M. by white radio hosts, was the cause for the reunification of the Clowncil Central Committee three African-Americans representatives. After weeks of racial accusations over Redistricting 2012, Councilpersons Jan Perry, Bernard Parks and Herb "Mini Amin" Wesson join together in a double standard attack on the "supposed radio beacon of hate" KFI 640 A.M. There is nothing like freshening the street creed by attacking "Whitey" (Rush and "John and Ken") and his grip on the talk radio air waves.
The usual racial bean counters and their politically correct allies took to the podium in attacking "hate radio". Except they fail to mention the likes of MSNBC's Ed Schultz or HBO's Bill Maher who have been more explicated and constant with their bile commentary. But in the end, two voted to stand against this exercise in double standard race baiting, Councilman Mitch Englander and Joe Buscaino.
** Mayor Antonio Villar would not make a good fire fighter as he is having great difficulty handing the "political fire hose" in dousing the growing LAFD Scandal over the cooked response times  It may not be too early to think that Chief Brian Cummings may lose his job in protecting the political ambitions .....  and political payback against UFLAC President Pat McOsker.
** Which of the "Hamlets" of the 2013 Mayoral Elections potential candidates will say "yea" or "nay" in the near future? Political pundits are putting Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky on the political clock to make his choice.
** The Downtown News reports that Billionaire Eli "Lord" Broad "Museum to Self" his been issue the appropriate permits and will break ground soon, joining its CRA funded parking garage on Bunker Hill.

City Clowncil Central Committee to host dialog on "Hate Radio KFI"

City Clowncil Central Committee on a Stick
Hate Speech or Political Comedy via KFI? (** the fate that awaits Buscaino and Englander if they support "Mini Amin" Wesson.)
Who is the true purveyor of race-based actions in the City of Los Angeles?.
Please hold off on the morning Sig Alerts as we post this urgent "Political Buffoonery Warning" for 10 A.M. at 200 Spring Street in Downtown LA.
The City of Los Angeles City Clowncil Central Committee will engage in a dialog on the supposed radio outpost of Hate Speech in the City of Los Angeles (via Burbank) KFI 640 A.M. and I'll bet Councilman Jose Huizar's next violation of the Public Records Act that that the assorted City Clowncil communication aides have been browsing through KFI's podcasts in search of racist commentary from various KFI hosts. Maybe Leo Laporte's Tech Talk is code for "Hate Tech in the Cybersphere". Is the Tim Conway Jr. popular "What the Hell did Jesse Jackson Say?" Segment really "What Hate can we Say about Jesse Jackson Segment"?  Did John and Ken insinuate that all Mexicans should clean our toilets after Mayor Antonio Villar's famous "We Clean Your Toilets" Statement from the mass immigration rallies of years past? Or is the Fabulous Lisa Ann Walters really the "Fabulous Aryan Lisa Ann Walters"?
This hateful blogger (in the minds of myopic members of the Clowncil)  spends most of his time away from work listening to what the City Clowncil Central Committee would call hate radio (which includes other goose-stepping radio outlets). KABC 790 A.M.'s Doug McIntyre starts my day with commentary that inspires sedition, Rush Limbaugh deepens my disregards for the rights of women. KRLA 870 A.M.'s Hugh Hewitt provides intellect and scholarship to forward the cause of the intellectual white man. Then the "Goebbels of Afternoon Talk" John and Ken rallys the master race on the drive home to the Aryan enclaves of Riverside, Orange, San Bernardino and secretive areas of Los Angeles Counties.
Yet as a Leo Laporte ad plays in the background for "Hate IPod", I have a few questions for our proletariat elected members of the City Clowncil Central Committee. First did any KFI host inspire City Employees or City Couucil Staffers to shakedown a certain racial group for bribes or campaign kickbacks? Second, did any KFI fill-in host ever cause an American Veteran survivor of the Cambodia "Killing Fields" to lose his business to Corporate Beer and Wine (Buffoon Ed Reyes may know something about that)? Third, did any member of the KFI News Team ever run down an inquisitive reporter who was seeking information on a politically connected Charter School?
Lastly, has any KFI host ever utter these thoughts on integration and race relations?

TCLA: Finally, what do you see as the legacy of the Brown decision?
Marcos Aguilar(pictured with supporter Councilman Jose Huizar above): If Brown was just about letting Black people into a White school, well we don’t care about that anymore. We don’t necessarily want to go to White schools. What we want to do is teach ourselves, teach our children the way we have of teaching. We don’t want to drink from a White water fountain, we have our own wells and our natural reservoirs and our way of collecting rain in our aqueducts. We don’t need a White water fountain. So the whole issue of segregation and the whole issue of the Civil Rights Movement is all within the box of White culture and White supremacy. We should not still be fighting for what they have. We are not interested in what they have because we have so much more and because the world is so much larger. And ultimately the White way, the American way, the neo liberal, capitalist way of life will eventually lead to our own destruction. And so it isn’t about an argument of joining neo liberalism, it’s about us being able, as human beings, to surpass the barrier.
Strange, I don't recall any KFI host espousing this type of racial rhetoric, then being rewarded with surplus city property and Charter Renewal for their controversial Charter School (if they had one).
Thus, can we utter the "H-word" and "C-word" for today''s dialog on KFI?  After all, the City Council President Herb "Mini Amin" Wesson controlled Clowncil Central Committee is a daily exercise in hypocrisy and attempted censorship as residents of CD 8, 9 and Koreatown can attest to.

Liberal Hypocrisy Hits An All Time High

Rush Limbaugh
Let's start with this. Clearly, it was rude, inappropriate, coarse and unrefined for Rush Limbaugh to call Sandra Fluke vulgar names as it was for KFI Radio's John Kobylt and Ken Chiampou to make insulting remarks about the recently deceased Whitney Houston, regardless of how correct the broadcasters' points may have been.

However, Limbaugh, Kobylt and Chiampou have been garnering huge ratings for decades because there is a significant enough audience for their type of programming. On the other hand, broadcasters such as Larry Elder, John Phillips, Doug McInytre and Dennis Miller may also fall on the right side of the aisle, but present a more measured approach leaning more towards wry witticisms and irony than the man cave like observations of Rush/John and Ken. Both types of formats appeal and all of these radio hosts have been extremely successful.

KFI's Eric Leonard reports Tenative Budget Deal at City Hall

" Budget dealings on Spring Street"
KFI's Eric Leonard was the first to report the tenative budget deal that awaits final City Council approval.
The L.A. City Council has gone public to present a deal that was reached during get a overnight negotiations with the Coalition of Los Angeles City Unions.
The deal is supposed to save jobs and prevent furlough days. The Council is expected to vote on a budget plan later today.
The Council pushed back a 10:00a.m. deadline to vote on budget-cutting negotiations with its largest civilian employee unions.
Union negotiator Victor Gordo says he's hopeful a deal can be reached that prevents layoffs but helps the city reduce its budget. The council has already approved a delayed raise for the employees.
** Tenative numbers:
$80 million in savings this year.
2300 employees going off into the "early retirement" sunset.
EAA to get hit with layoffs.
City employees to contribute 0.37% more towards retirement fund
$20 million in pay raises on hold.
** LA Times Phil Willon and David Zahniser have the extensive details.
Council President Eric Garcetti: “We are a family again".
”That declaration drew some grousing from blogger and former Los Angeles Daily News editor Ron Kaye, who criticized the council for failing to immediately release the details of the plan. “What you left out of this deal is the people. We’re part of the family too,” he said, adding: “We don’t know what the deal is; we’re excluded.”
In related budget news, "ourla.org" asked candidates in the CD 2 Special City Council Election to weigh in how they would deal with the current budget issues on Spring Street.
Budget updates will be posted here as they break.

Los Angeles Building and Safety General Manager Suspected in Sexual Assualt

Exclusive from KFI's Eric Leonard.
The General Manager of the L.A. City Department of Building and Safety is the prime suspect in the July 10 rape of an unconscious woman in Downtown, KFI NEWS has learned.
According to senior LAPD sources and court documents, the victim told detectives she'd gone out drinking with friends and blacked-out after sharing a beer with Adelman while watching an outdoor concert.
The victim said when she woke up she was being attacked by Adelman on his bed.
She told police the attack lasted several hours, and Adelman eventually drove her back to her car.
A command-level source at LAPD confirms the investigation is ongoing, but no charges have been filed and Adelman has not been arrested.
Adelman did not accept a call for comment at his office this afternoon.-- Eric Leonard
UPDATE - 6:15 p.m. - Adelman has been placed on administrative leave, according to the L.A. Mayor's office.
** From the Los Angeles Times.
Detectives are investigating allegations by a woman who says Andrew Adelman raped her last month at his downtown condominium, according to court documents obtained Tuesday. The investigation is continuing, and Adelman has neither been arrested nor charged with a crime.
Adelman's attorney, Mark Geragos, stressed that the accusations have not been proved.
"It's unfortunate that ... an investigation has been made public before any determination of the validity of the allegations have been made," he told The Times
.(Geragos ?? Holy S...!! for Adelman)
......And this from Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
In a letter to Adelman, the mayor said: "You are being placed on administrative leave effective immediately. Please be reminded that your employment is at will and may be terminated at any time."

The John and Ken Effect

John and Ken show

Love 'em or hate 'em, the John and Ken Show on KFI is a tour de force on talk radio in the afternoons. Albeit bombastic, steady offerings of barbed language and an in-your-face-style, they are anything but boring and never seem to violate the 1st Rule of Radio: Be Entertaining.

Today, the Los Angeles Times opines on the famous shock jocks in the context of the trial of Orange County's ex-sheriff Mike Carona. I suppose it is a badge of honor for them and I'll have to tune in Monday to see what they have to say about it.

At issue: a series of readings by the hosts, John Kobylt and Ken Chiampou, from transcripts of Carona conversations that were secretly recorded by federal investigators. When Carona's legal team objected to the pretrial publicity, Kobylt and Chiampou rose to the challenge, dubbing this segment of the show "Taint the Carona Jury Pool" and advising fans called for jury duty to lie if asked about their radio listening habits. Daring stuff -- and stupid too -- but the purpose of a venue change is to ensure that the accused gets a fair trial, not to address media buzz.

Considering the size of the Burbank-based show's listenership (about 1 million a month), the widely dispersed audience in L.A. and Orange counties and the vagaries of listeners' habits, the probability that a substantial number of jury pool members have even tuned into "John & Ken's" Carona coverage seems vanishingly small.

The Re-Birth of Mr. KFI?

Earlier last year, Marc "Mr. KABC" Germain left KABC Radio after ten years to take a drive time show on "Progressive" talker KTLK 1150.

It was announced yesterday that Mr. Germain has been canned from KTLK in order to make way for a syndicated show.

So now, Marc is available. And there is a perfect spot for him - the show recently vacated by John Ziegler from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. at KTLK's sister station - and Germain's original radio home - KFI.

When Germain was at KABC he had the highest ratings in his time slot and established a reputation for being an excellent commercial pitchman, bringing in some top notch sponsors. The only reason Germain left KABC was corporate pressure to air syndicated programming during his timeslot.

If KFI is listening - we think there's a fit.
