Frank Buckley on Jamiel's Law
KTLA's Frank Buckley has an interesting post on his blog about Jamiel's Law. Buckley talks about the Shaw's 18 year plan for Jamiel - which was on track remarkably until he was shot as part of an alleged Latino gang hit on a Black youth - the Shaws had for their son. He calls on law enforcement and elected officials to look at the issue of gang violence and the part that illegal immigration plays in it.The downside is that Buckley buys and does not even challenge from a devil's advocate point of view the usual Bratton Special Order 40 Culver City Spin. However, I guess we have to be grateful that Jamiel's tragic death and the Shaw's amazing activism are at least getting the media and some folks talking.

Late with the news as usual, Michael Higby. There's no Jamiel's Law. The Zine motion before city council will not be called by that name, and it clears up but doesn't revoke SP 40.
But from a guy who last night called the P Stones the Keystones, no one expects much more. Did you get a copy of Zine's motion? Post it please. Did you call his office and find out what they're calling the motion? Post that too.
My God, your standards get lower with each try. The "Culver City Spin" is that there is no database. Didn't your right wing cronies tell you that?

"If they have a known gang member, they should be able to check their status and put an immigration hold on them if they are here illegally," Zine said. "Most of the crime we have in the city now is because of gangs, and we have to send a message to them."
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said he supports any clarification of Special Order 40, but doesn't believe Zine's proposal will change the existing regulation.
I came across some of the most articulate comments against SP 40 on a very lib blog, Witness LA, run by Celeste Fremon who supports "father gangbanger doyle," I don't know about his credibility.
You guys could also do a whole lot better, quoting from this blog, on other threads. Since you don't and people don't want to cut and paste anymore, or rewrite, you're dying.

If City Hall had adopted Jamiel's Law in, say, 2001, when Zine took office, the LAPD would have had the authority and obligation to find, arrest and deport gang members like Pedro Espinoza for seven YEARS before he allegedly killed Jamiel.
The argument that the Sheriff failed to discover Espinoza was here illegally does NOT justify continuing to prevent the LAPD from cooperating with ICE to catch the Espinozas of L.A. BEFORE they murder our children.

Notify the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service via teletype of the arrest of the individual

In order for it to pass they will have to take out the part where they can run your ICE status even if you are not arrested. Then maybe Janice would vote "Yes", reluctantly out of pressure, but the "no's" would still have it and i don't think janice would vote yes, cause then the mayor would cut her off from the "gang intervention" money...since he now has consolidated control into his back pocket/office. (Yes, this week the mayor's office took control of the whole gang intervention unit.

Special Order 40 isn't actually a "law." It is the name of a directive issued by the police chief in 1978 or 1979.
The relevant provisions today, in 2008, are in the LAPD Manual: Vol. 1, § 390 and Vol. 4, § 264.50.
It's the current incarnation of Special Order 40 that Jamiel's Law addresses, not the original version, the provisions of which the LAPD manual omits.
I can answer that. He thinks your a lying slob, Higby, and since he has the facts to prove it, he thought he'd forgo tennis this weekend to show you with your pants around your ankles. Which he did, in spades!

Don Quackers has got himself worked up into fervor over any talk of deporting even illegal alien gang members. And since being exposed for a racist “menudo enema” fool, he just can’t stop talking about his newest cyber enemy Higby. Of course Celeste Fremon and her blog witnessla is aganst Special Issue 40. Didn't you read her trash in LA Weekly a couple of years ago about the American Family who were gang bangers Celeste was trying to fake as if they were really trying? Low and behold they both ended up getting busted for drug possession and dealing. Their kids were taken away. And get this, Father gang banger Boyle was given one of those kids without having to go through any agency. Father Gang Banger and his ganster employees are cut from the same cloth, immoral, uneducated, illegal, graffitti tagger, low lifes.
Obviously the Reyes, Alarcons etc. won't vote for it, but every other city council person should be held accountable for the deterioration of life in LA due to illegal gang bangers. 6:44, You mean Celeste Fremon/witnessla are against repealing SP40 or even clarifying it so that cops ask about illegal status of suspects, even when they're stopped for a secondary reason. And if you read her current take on this, she's crying that we American taxpayers need to spend more money on "prevention and interventions" so that "we could have saved both Jamiel Shaw and his killer."
What dangerous bullshit, why doesn't she pay for it herself, but no, she just supports gangbangers. Actually, gang intervention programs wouldn't have been needed for Jamiel Shaw, since he has a close relationship with his dad, who he was calling on the phone even as a 17-year old.
Wonder how many siblings, including younger Anchor Babies, Espinoza had? He came here when he was 4 and is 19 now, so we're probably paying for a bunch of little Espinoza gangbangers, since these people reproduce like rabbits and go right on welfare and every social benefit.
