Official Negligence

The LAPD Chief’s New Clothes

Had our elected representatives an ounce of warm blood in their collective veins today, the story of Jamiel Shaw would have sent them scrambling for a microphone to be the first to beg for our forgiveness.

The cold-blooded murder of a true rising star—a kid who beat the odds of his own neighborhood, only to be gunned down by a foreign national with a domestic rap sheet—would not be tolerated in any other country, let alone world-class city. Sadly, leadership in Los Angeles is guided by a game of numbers, and in this instance, an ethno-political calculation that bleeds red ink.

If the mayor of Los Angeles is in town today, would someone please relay the news that there’s a crisis in his streets, on his watch?

The Mayor and the Chief of Police can stop the mayhem....just enforce the law. If nothing else we will be able to deport law breaking illegals.

If someone is here illegilly,he wont be noticed and can probably stay until the "guest worker' program is approved as long as he does not violate ANY LAWS of this country. Thats the only way they can enter legially.

Milton Friedman made it very clear that in a pure capitalist system, no society can offer social services without a tightly controlled population, which means carefully controlled and limited immigration.

We've more than burst at the seams, proving he's right. At today's City Council Budget Committee meeting, Chief Financial Officer Karen Sisson reminded them that the city's been facing a crisis in healthcare since the early 90's, with the deficit made up only by the luck of high real estate prices.

Rosendahl is concerned that this means the cutting of services for everyone. Like legal residents?

Gee, aren't the early 90's about when illegal immigration resulted in overwhelming numbers? Aren't illegals the majority of users of clinics and trauma centers?

Didn't the taxes which propped up this shortfall coming from middle and wealthy legal residents? The people called racist for demanding an end to this irresponsibility?

Friedman is a libertarian, not a conservative, and generally has no moral positions on social issues.

His pointing out the obvious, that social benefits can't be maintained with uncontrolled population numbers (and especially when the additional numbers are poor, uneducated and don't come close to paying their families' shares for schools, healthcare, etc.) is just a basic fact of capitalism, even enlightened capitalist societies like Canada -- which don't even want educated Poles to immigrate, let alone the masses of poor Mexicans we get. What we've got is literally unsustainable.

Ed Harrington,

Maybe you should read what an economist such as Milton Friedman says about our uncontrolled immigration policy.

I would think; that even the village idiot could see what is going to happen when you take in all the poor and un-educated immigrants. Even in your personal life you have a limit to how many people you can provide for.

Do you really expect the Mayor to mention anything negative about illegal aliens?

The Mayor will not ever talk about illegal alien gang members in Los Angeles. There are thousands of illegal alien gang members in Los Angeles, but of course the Mayor will ignore the topic. And the Mayor does not ever mention that 25% of jail inmates are illegal aliens.

I'm tired of spending U.S. tax dollars on illegal aliens. Time to enforce the immigration laws.

The mexican politicos have even ruined the west-side schools by busing gang-banger kids into west-side school. The west-side residents won't send their kids to the schools in their own neighborhoods, the mexican politicos have managed to create more low performing schools, even in the affluent area of Los Angeles.

Hey wait a minute. Give Mayor V a break. I read today he just filled his 800,000th pothole. Let's see, that's 800,000 divide by 900 days, equals over 888 potholes a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. If you take out weekends and holidays, public works is filling over 1000 potholes a day.

He needs to be free to march on May 1st and stop traffic on the freeway, and to settle personal grievances, like not getting respect. You know nothing will change unless the Mayor gives someone a wrong look, "disrespects" someone and gets whacked himself. But then, the midget would become a saint... ugh

THE POLICE ARE STILL NOT REQUIRED TO CHECK LEGAL STATUS!!! THE JUDGE LET HIM OUT!!! HE HAD A GUN!!! THE POLICE KNEW IT!!! AND ONE DAY LATER AFTER HE WAS LET OUT, HE KILLS THE BOY!!! And speaking of Vitriol, My Vitriol has a formula, too -- though perhaps it would be more apropos to call it a recipe -- and My Vitriol's recipe works flawlessly for 16 tracks and 48 minutes because, unlike so many others, My Vitriol takes influences like Nirvana, the Smashing Pumpkins, and shoegazing in general, and synthesize them into something that puts those influences on prominent display, yet which is completely My Vitriol's own sound. This is what sets My Vitriol apart from the pack.

Don Q & Don C,

First off, the other comments here don't speak for me.

What I mean by "red ink" is, career politicians have nothing to gain and everything to lose by acknowledging the obvious spillover of the ethnic war in the prisons to the streets, the strain recent demographic shifts are placing on a shrinking black population, and the completely avoidable deaths of legal residents (black, white, Latino, and Asian) at the hands of people here illegally from other countries.

If we need guest workers, that's fine, but can we all agree we don't need repeat offenders from other countries terrorizing our streets and filling our jails? Do we not have enough homegrown criminals to deal with as it is?

If we can't discuss the facts, progress will never be made, and right now, facts are taboo for the Mayor Villaraigosa, City Council and Chief Bratton.

Thanks for the response Antonio Watch, it makes a little clearer what you are saying.

I agree 100% with your analysis of the growing power of the prison (and back on the streets), gangs vis a vis ethnic and racial conflicts and attitudes that are imposed on gangsters back in the neighborhood.
This is a real and ugly phenomena that is affecting the perception (although false) of the general public in the belief that black and brown people are generally hateful towards one another and will murder each other based on race and ethnicity.
This is a fallacy and rooted in street and prison gang racial profiling not on real life.

There is no inherent racial hate between black and brown people other than your typical stereotype attitudes that most people share. When people interact and get to know each other as neighbors, which is common all over LA and So Cal then things are fine, but if there is a sensational murder ( always gang related) then the perception of people who really don't know the facts is that all blacks and Latinos are at each other throats which couldn't be further from the truth.

Also the statements about this latest murder involving a prison gang member, who was on the streets for only a couple of days before murdering the young black kid, is a story that merits way more analysis and attention than being relegated to the old "an illegal alien did it".

This so called "foreign national" had been in LA since he was practically an infant, lived here all his life, and was molded and developed into a murderous sociopath and gangster right here in LA, not Mexico or any other foreign country.

Yea maybe if his parents 25 years ago wouldn't have been allowed to enter the country "illegally" this wouldn't have happened, maybe, but the fact is that this killer was raised and formed here in the USA in a gang infested varrio with all the socio economic and cultural dysfunction that is so typical and problematic at this time in our history.

No the real dilemma and significance isn't whether this killer and gangster was born in another country but why and how do we as a society prevent or at least diminish the growing and more powerful influence of gangs in our community's.
Are we going to arrest our way out of the problem? Don't think so since we already incarcerate 1 out of every 100 US citizens, more than all the countries of the world combined!
No, one of these days we will have to face the difficult question of why this ugly situation exists and how we remedy it, I don't think it's a simple cut and dry solution and times running out the hour glass.

Don Quackers never blames a cholo for his murders it's always the fault of society. That sounds a lot like the twinke defense, society make me kill the black kid.

Who said all mexicans kill blacks we know it mexican gangs, who kill blacks, or as Don Quackers calls them changos and mayates.

When is Don Quackers going to look in the mirror and see that his glamorizing gangs, and telling gang stories to his grandkids just continues the cycle of stupidity. The goverment can not change people if they don't want to change. Comprendes Don Cholo?

I already know how to cut gangs membership immediately, deport illegal aliens from mexico who are the most active and violent gang members. Mexican gangs are the largest in California, because we let all the sneaky bastards cross the border. Now we realize what a big disaster that was, time to rectify the situation. Deport all the illegal alien from mexico, and gang membership and jail population drops immediately.

That will free up jail space for the sons of people like Don Quackers who continute to perpetuate the varrio/cholo mentality.

We had gangs in Los Angeles back when more union jobs were available in L.A. Change has to start with the low-life pendejos first.

Deporting illegals will not solve Los Angeles' gang problem. The drug cartels will find another deprived socio economic group to run their drugs. That is a historical fact. This murderer learned his racist attitudes in prison. Don Q is correctly speaking about the spillover of prison attitudes of hate on the streets. Most of our Hispanics and Blacks have no problem coexisting despite what the nut wants us to believe. For once, Antonio WAtch is correct.

Antonio the Mayor has to realize he's NOT serving the interests of the legal Hispanic community, either, by his refusing to admit that illegal Hispanics are a huge part of the problem. The gangs loyal to La EME, 18th St., MS13, etc., may number just some 50,000 by official estimates, but that's just the "elite" not counting the many thousands more out there, from kids to grandparents, who support them and "are their foot soliders."

Look at the ones who killed the baby in McArthur Park, set ablaze a man in East L A on their busiest shopping street mid-day, because he owed some money -- and "nobody saw nada."

Too bad La Opinion endorsed Obama instead of Hillary just because he agreed to give illegals' drivers' licenses right away, and legalize all the illegals (upto another 20 million!!!) right away after he takes office.

La Opinion is not working for its people. NOR is Obama -- if he's saying that blaming any of our city problems on illegals is "scapegoating," what do you expect Antonio V to be able to say?

The black community should come out and hold Obama's feet to the fire -- stop giving him a total pass just because of his color. Even Maxine Waters can see past that.
