In lieu of last week's dramatic disclosure by the reform-minded University of Scandalous Conduct (USC) regarding its Criminal Referral of South LA's Father (Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas) and Son (Sebastian) alleged Political Money Washers to the US Attorney Office, observers cannot ignore the fact that the embattled Educational Institution, bypassed LA County District Attorney Jackie Lacey's Office of Public Integrity.

Its no secret that the BFF of former SEIU Local 6434 General Manager Tyrone Freeman, would make a great Political Maytag Washing Machine Mechanic for his alleged various schemes to wash Public and Union Money .........., into self-serving, Personal and Campaign Revenue respectively. Despite the hordes of supposed, off-duty staffers from the City Clowncil Central Committee Offices of Nury Martinez (wife of Bocanegra Campaign Consultant Gerry Guzman) and Felipe Fuentes (former "Temp Staffer" for Bocanegra) seeking to invalidate ballots, "Team Patty Lopez" left the
second to last canvass of votes, holding a 235 vote lead over 39th AD Assemblyman Raul Bocanegra, with the last vote count to take place on Friday. 

The Improbable Campaign of Patty Lopez has sent shock waves across not only the Northeast San Fernando Valley, but throughout the City of Los Angeles. If Lopez holds on to beat Bocanegra, the first aftershock of this political equivalent of the 1971 Sylmar Earthquake, will be the upcoming CD 6 City Clowncil Central Committee Rematch between current Clowncilwoman Nury Martinez and Cindy Montanez.

With the chance of probability on the same level as this blogger's next use of "Spollcheck", Clowncilwoman Martinez Husband Gerry Guzman's role (G7 Strategy Group, INC.) in the Bocanegra Campaign, is surely to garner some unwanted attention, considering the negative, dismissive tone directed at Team Patty Lopez.

Ridley-Thomas: $75,000 Prop 46 Pay to Play?

No, we didn't get rid of pay to play when James Hahn left office.

Proposition 46 is a measure to, among other things, increase the state's cap on medical malpractice awards. Backed by consumer groups, large attorney firms, some unions, politicians such as Senator Barbara Boxer and activists such as Candace Lightner, founder of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and Erin "They're boobs, Ed" Brockovich, the proposal seeks to address a number of issues and allegedly outdated laws and regulations around medical malpractice.

Not surprisingly, hospitals, doctors, insurance companies, the Republican party, the California Chamber of Commerce, Stuart Waldman's Valley Industry and Commerce Association and several other unions are opposed to the measure.

However, the latest kerfuffle around the measure concerns our old friend, County Supervisor, Mark Ridley- Thomas. The Sacramento Bee is reporting that proponents of the measure say that following a $75,000 donation by the No on 46 committee to Ridley-Thomas' PAC, the African American Voter Registration, Education and Participation Project, the Supervisor scheduled a vote for the County Board of Supervisors to vote to oppose 46.

Ever since former California State Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez installed his San Diego Compadre Kevin de Leon as the Carpetbag Replacement for Progressive Icon Jackie Goldberg in Sacramento, we have been amaze in the former union rep's ability to multi-task in his endeavor to provide quality constituent services.

Whether its was his abilities to fulfill the needs of CD 14 Stakeholders, who concerns were ignored by their current Princeton-graduate Officeholder, or merely seeking to fill the "needs" of the likes of former LA Dodgers Co-owner Jamie McCourt and past State Senate Leader Gloria Romero (wink, wink allegedly), the political abilities of "Mini Fabian" were never to be under-estimated.

But judging from the recent mailer above, "Mini Fabian" is seeking to go where no California Dependentcrat Collectivist has aspired to achieve in recent times, by seeking to become a duo Assemblyman/ State Senator.

** There was a time in a recent, local political past where noted political office hopper, now CD 2 City Councilman Paul Krekorian was being seen as the next great Populist within the Horseshoe at 200 Spring Street, But what is the current political reality is that the price the former Burbank Board of Education Member paid in becoming City Clowncil Central Committee Strongman Herman "Mini Amin" Wesson's choice as the Chairperson of the Budget Committee, will impede LA's attempt to repeal an onerous Business Tax.

** What is politically grosser than gross? Being on the receiving end of a Betty Pleasant "Wanton Missive of Distortion" (WMD), ( or "Written Missive of Disclosure" in regards to the "Renovation-Thomas Political Family"), or enduring a Soulvine Columnist Screamfest over the phone? Consider the following excerpt ................

Virtually the first thing Assemblyman Ridley-Thomas did after he was sworn into office was to send me a press release announcing his endorsement of Burke for the 62nd Assembly seat. I was shocked. So I called Sebastian and asked him what the heck he was doing, as this woman has no more experience with the functions of a representative government nor knowledge of any community outside of Brentwood and Marina Del Rey than my 5-year-old granddaughter!
“She’s not seeking admittance to a college, she’s seeking admittance to the state Legislature,” I screamed. “She knows nothing. Who’s going to tell her what to do?”
Assemblyman Ridley-Thomas replied: “I will.”
Can you believe that? He would!!?? Then the new assemblyman began explaining to me that he could easily represent his district and the 62nd because they adjoin each other and their demographics are basically the same. (Actually, he was wrong about that because the demographics of the two districts are as different as a pair of burgundy Florsheim oxfords and a pair of tennis shoes.)
Then I went ballistic and started ranting about how the people of the 62nd District have the right to elect their own representative and not some know-nothing who would be controlled by him.
Then the assemblyman said to me: “Do you want her to be controlled by Bernard Parks?”
I hung up. I couldn’t take it anymore. Then I called Papa Ridley-Thomas and told him what his son said to me. The elder Ridley-Thomas was actually taken aback. He did not like it that his son had been so candid with me; he blamed it on his “youthful enthusiasm” and said he would have to talk to Sebastian about his mouth. Yeah, well, the damage was done because he mouthed off and blew the whole Ridley-Thomas strategy to a friend who happens to be a journalist.

........ something tells me that a supposed South LA Political Friendship has a pending appointment with a Obamacare Political Death Panel.

Morning Briefs on the Los Angeles Political Machine for a post Easter Monday

Sign of a new Political Time at City Hall as CD 14 City Councilman Jose Huizar is brushed aside, while Mayor Eric Garcetti, City Council President Herman Wesson and LA County Board of Supervisor Gloria Molina, announce J-Zay-promoted Labor Day Concert at Grand Park.

As Mayor Garcetti moves forward in announcing J Zay's promoted Labor Day Concert at Grand Park, Councilman Huizar is reduced to finding friendly media venues to pout.

Great Monday after Easter to all as today has the bloggin aura of the first day after Spring Break, with everyone wanting to know what you did during your time away, or in this blogger's case, what political theatrics were missed during our keyboard embargo.

** First, Mayor Eric Garcetti treated CD 14 City Councilman Jose Huizar to a lesson in a new political reality by casting him aside, in announcing the Jay Z-promoted, Budweiser-sponsored Labor Day Concert at the Civic Center's Grand Park. The Princeton Graduate, turned defendant in a Sexual Harassment Lawsuit, was relegated to finding friendly media scribes (like LA Weakly Blogger Dennis Romero and KPCC's Alice Walton) to espouse his pouting points. We should note while The Weakly's Romero takes issue, along with Huizar, regarding the forthcoming Labor Day Concert, Romero and his Weakly colleague Gene Maddaus seemly had no reservations about the cost to the taxpayers regarding the giveaway of the LA Memorial Coliseum to USC. 

** Second, CD 8 City Councilman Benard Parks has an unwanted staffer controversy with the arrest of "low level, administrated assistant" Kearia Brown on armed robbery and conspiracy charges. Brown posted $100,000 bail and has been place on paid administrated leave, pending the resolution of her case.

** Third, to paraphrase from the great Soul Song from Billy Paul, "Mr. and Mrs. Jones", Mr. Mark Ridley-Thomas and Ms. Betty Pleasant have a political spat going on. In the last couple of weeks, the reigning South LA "WMD Columnist of Note" (ie. WMD stands for Wanton Missives of Distortion) has been keyboarding "Written Missives of Disclosure" regarding the inattentive nature of LA County Board of Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas. Last week, Ms. Pleasant published emails via members of the Compton Chapter of the NAACP, directed at the Supervisor's Chief of Staff that prompted the following retort from the noted Garage Renovator as keyboarded by Betty.

Then the two guys and Paulette Simpson-Gipson, Compton NAACP president, contacted me about their problem with Ridley-Thomas and the rest is history. On March 21 at 4:19 p.m. MRT sent me an email stating: “We need to talk. You’re about to get me fired!!!!.” Then at 5:44 p.m. he sent me this one: “You need to stop busting my chops! Who has taken my place anyway? (maybe affectionate little short guy Herman Wesson?) I want to kill him!” To which I responded at 5:44 p.m.: “No one has taken your place. It is and has always been the people first and MRT second, with SRT a closing third! Betty.” (makes you wonder what went down in Ridley-Thomas new Garage Man Cave in better times between these two??)

........ but Betty is not ready to rekindle this political fling anytime soon, judging by the following parting shot. 

I’ve got a lot of juicy news about Ridley-Thomas’ chosen candidates for election I want to tell you about next week. It reminds me of the late great blues singer John Lee Hooker’s hit: “It serves you right to suffer.” The sentiment is apropos.

As the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office of Public Integrity investigates the specifics behind the creation of LA County Board of Supervisor Mark "Renovation-Thomas" Garage/ Man Cave, "Renovation-Thomas" goes on a PR offensive with help of "Betty".

If you are the likes of local African-American Politicos such as Convicted Felon State Senator Roderick Wright, LA City Clouncil Central Committee Strongman Herman "Mini Amin" Wesson, incarcerated SEIU Local 6434 General Manager Tyrone Freeman, LA County Board of Supervisor Mark "Renovation-Thomas", but definitely, not the duo of former CD 9 City Councilwoman Jan Perry and CD 8 City Councilman Bernard Parks, who do you turn to for "Extreme Image Renovation" in times of political crisis? BETTY!

The latest to seek the help of the long time South LA Wave Newspaper "Revisionist, Soulvine Columnist of Note" Betty Pleasant is the reigning, publicly-finance Man Cave Renovator of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Mark "Renovation-Thomas" (also known as the "Bitter Dad" when commenting about Councilman Parks).

Apparently, Supervisor "Renovation-Thomas" has some issues with a certain "Old Gray Collectivist Hag on Spring Street" (aka LA Times). This regarding its expose on Supervisor "Renovation-Thomas" use of public funds ( before allegedly reinbursting the taxpayers, partially) to install security infrastructure concurrently with the remodeling of his garage into his new Man Cave (without a City of Los Angeles Building and Safety Permit, at the time of the work).

Now normally, we can understand someone taking umbrage at the propaganda pronouncements from the "Old Gray Collectivist Hag" on any given day, fter all, this is the same "Formally Fishwrap of Record" that was known as the "LA Antonio Times" in the early years of this current century. But that said, there are those solitary scribes, such as Jack Dolan, David Zahniser and Paul Pringle, who still practice objective journalism.

In regards to Pringle, lets remember that it was his reporting that disclose the fraudulent behavior of Supervisor "Renovation-Thomas's" close friend, former SEIU 6434 General Manager Tyrone Freeman, who is currently incarcerated for diverted union funds to support a lavish life style for him and selected associates.

But more egregious was Freeman's aborted scheme to raise the dues on his low-paid, home health care workers, to finance Supervisor "Renovation-Thomas" successful campaign against CD 8 City Councilman Bernard Parks, for the LA County Board of Supervisors District he now represents. Thus, one can see the genesis of Supervisor "Renovation-Thomas's" aversarial relationship with the "Old Gray Collectivist Hag". 

That said, it should come as no surprise that Supervisor Renovation-Thomas would spin his version of the non-permitted, "Garage into secured Man Cave Conversion" to the reigning revisionist, enabler "Soulvine Columnist of Note" in South LA, as a slap back to the "Old Gray Collectivist Hag". If Betty can keyboard a column that calls the conviction of State Senator Roderick Wright as "selective prosecution", then you can grasps what keyboard dance Betty will undertake to protect Supervisor "Renovation-Thomas" from a supposed, vindictive "Old Gray Collectivist Hag on Spring Street".

Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Tuesday

He's back! No, I don't mean me, but none other than the love of Betty Pleasant's life, Supervisor Mark "Don't Call Me Curly" Ridley-Thomas is showing his disdain for County taxpayers and treating their money as his. The Times is reporting that the former Mark Thomas allegedly charged various improvements on his home to the County, beyond a security system to which Supervisor is entitled to. The Times article states "John Thompson, who oversaw the work at Ridley-Thomas' property, said that in addition to an alarm system, workers installed a wall-mounted air conditioner and heating unit as well as a refrigerator and flat-screen TV." In addition to the County funded work, Ridley-Thomas allegedly converted his garage into an office without proper City of LA permits. You may remember that several years ago, Ridley-Thomas had spent nearly a million dollars on "renovation" of his county office.

This CAN'T be good for tourism - crime at LAX has jumped 10% so reports the Daily Breeze. The biggest jump appears to be in property thefts and larceny, while other categories ranging from violent assaults to unregistered vehicles appears about the same. The reports lead the head of the LAX police officers union to peg the spikes to cutbacks in the number of officers.

The end of two eras comes next year when longtime LA City Council Members Tom LaBonge and Bernard Parks will be termed out of office. And you can imagine that yes indeed a long line of comers to the thrones have signed up. For Parks 8th District that covers much of South LA, candidates filed so far include pot shop owner Paul Jonathan Scott, community advocate Leonard Delpit; Bobbie Jean Anderson, a former state legislative aide; and two nonprofit group executives: Marqueece Harris-Dawson and Forescee Hogan-Rowles (you may remember Hogan-Rowles, cheered on by Betty Pleasant, came close to unseating Parks in 2011). Over in LaBonge's CD4 which covers a nice part of Los Angle-leez, pulling papers are Tara Bannister, an executive with the National Apartment Assn.; Teddy Davis, a one-time aide to former Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa; developer and advertising agency owner Sheila Irani; Wally Knox, a former state assemblyman; Joan Pelico, chief of staff to Councilman Paul Koretz; real estate broker John Perron Jr.; Carolyn Ramsay, LaBonge's chief of staff; Oscar Winslow, president of the Los Angeles City Attorneys' Assn.; and Steve Veres, an aide to state Sen. Kevin de Leon (D-Los Angeles).  Do not be surprised if one more candidate gets into the CD4 race - former radio talk show host, mayoral candidate and current President of the Board of Public Works, Kevin James.

And finally, Mayor Garcetti was the Grand Marshal (not John Marshall) of Monday's Kingdom Parade, celebrating the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. Our bloggin' friend Joseph Mailander offered up one of his trademark wry observations in telling Facebook fans "some aide in Mayor Eric Garcetti's office wants you to know that he actually unlocked his doors and went outside of his car in an African American neighborhood to-day." Fortunately, as is the practice of the Mayor's office, the entire moment was photographed and shared with all.

Happy bloggin Tuesday to everyone as we share tales of scandalous misconduct, this A.M., from the various branches of the Los Angeles Political Machine.

We start with a political friend of nervous LA County Board of Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, former SEIU Local 6434 General Manager Tyrone Freeman. "Brother Tyrone" was sentence yesterday to 33 months on the license plate assembly line (without union wages) in Federal Lockup for defrauding union coffers for his, family and crony's self enrichment. Yet, what went completely unreported in the "Old Gray Collectivist Hag on Spring Street" (LA Times) missive regarding the "Brother Tyrone" sentencing, was the aborted scheme to raise the dues of the poorest of union members he represented, to finance the LA County Board of Supervisor Campaign of Mark Ridley-Thomas against CD 8 City Councilman Bernard Parks. We ponder whether Freeman in his next 33 months in the Federal Pen, will sing a tune of campaign finance misdeeds, in return for less time?  

** Is anyone within the LAUSD Educational Establishment surprise that now School Board President Richard Vladovic, would be the subject of a Verbal and Sexual Harassment Complaint (which he denies for the record)? During his first campaign for the LAUSD District 7 Seat, we posted here stories of the self-proclaimed, "Dr. Death's" proclivities to be a verbal hot head during his Administrator employment with LAUSD and the Covina School District. Maybe that was why he barely beat admired Administrator Neal Kleiner by a 53-47% margin? It was, and Kleiner would of won if UTLA had fiscally supported him. 

** The "University of Scandalous Conduct" (USC) continues its repugnant corporate behavior with that latest expose that the "Four Year Community College on Figueroa" (** along with President Barack "H" Obama's Occidental College), underreported sexual assaults on their respective campuses. The fact that USC would not follow up and properly report sexual assaults, is not surprising, considering its aborted raping of sacred and historic green space at Hazard Park. 

** Port of Los Angeles Director Geraldine Knatz is the first former Mayor Antonio Villar hold-over Department Head to be sent out the door, as she is forced out, whoops, resigns as its first female Port Director. Jack Humphreville in a superb blog missive at "MSNBC CityWatch", lamented on the failed leadership at the Port of LA under Knatz and the urgent need for change as a widen Panama Canal (in 2014) threatens the port's standing within the Pacific Rim.

** The Downtown News Editor and "Scribe of Wit" Jon Regardie, finds one local politician who maintains a healthy level of skepticism, regarding the NFL returning to a newly-built Farmers Field in Downtown LA.

Speaking at a Downtown lunch event today hosted by the Los Angeles Current Affairs Forum, Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas expressed skepticism that the league stands ready to make a deal with Anschutz Entertainment Group that would result in having pro football in L.A. for the first time since 1994.
“I don’t know that you can trust the NFL in terms of negotiating,” said Ridley-Thomas during the event at the Sheraton Hotel. “You think it’s Farmers Field, but they’re out right now negotiating, optioning the project somewhere else. That’s what they do. Why? Because they always want to stir it up. And they’ll never tell you.”

These comments may not go over well with Thomas brother and sisters union friends.

** The Downtown News also has the exclusive of the new incarnation of the former politically-connected real estate firm of Meruelo-Maddox, which is now called Evoq Properties.

After a two-year court process, Meruelo and Maddux were ousted as part of a reorganization plan that allowed an outside investment group armed with $23.6 million in private equity to take a majority share of the company. New management was implemented, with Martin Caverly, who previously ran a real estate consulting firm, taking over as CEO.

Gone are the days when you can buy some contaminated property and have LAUSD make you a big profit through Eminent Domain. 

Its CLARTS Fund Anniversary Week in CD 14

October 18 will be the second anniversary of CD 14 City Councilman's Jose Huizar's last public full disclosure on the status of the community amenities CLARTS Fund, created by former CD 14 City Councilman Nick Pacheco. Throughout this week on the blog, we will go back in time and bring you examples of past expenditures and moment of political disinformation on the status of the fund. In today's flashback, we post a video of former Councilman Pacheco briefing the Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council on his expectations for the amenities fund.

For current LA County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, the news via Daily News Rick Orlov's "Monday Tipoff Column", that Freeman will most likely face a Federal Grand Jury Indictment this week, should cause him pause considering this past scheme ...........

Controversy surrounding a powerful Los Angeles labor leader threatened Thursday to alter the landscape beneath the county's hottest political race, which has been fueled by record amounts of union spending.Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors candidate Bernard C. Parks, who trailed in the June primary, challenged opponent Mark Ridley-Thomas to return more than $4.5 million raised on his behalf by a labor alliance that included beleaguered union leader Tyrone Freeman.Parks, a Los Angeles city councilman, also noted that county officials have accused Freeman's local of raising more than $5 million in illegitimate union dues from low-wage home healthcare workers, a charge that union attorneys have flatly denied.

We left a message with Supervisor Ridley-Thomas press person Lisa Richardson seeking comment.

Continuing with Orlov, the veteran City Hall beat writer reports that Andrea AlarCON will not carry on the family brand at City Hall. DONE staffer Grayce Liu has been picked by Mayor Antonio Villar to replace B.H. Kim as the General Manager of the Neighborhood Council oversight agency..

Of interest to LAUSD observers is the possible CD 6 candidacy of School Board Member Nury Martinez  If current CD 6 City Councilman Tony Cardenas is elected to Congress and Martinez seeks to replace him, the race to replace Martinez at LAUSD is sure to draw major UTLA resources , in the attempt to regain control of the Board of Education. Will Louie Pugliese seek one more time to get elected to a Board of Educators?

** We hear at Mayor Sam that a lawsuit may be filed within the next 24-48 hours which could have major political repercussions at City Hall. More on that later today.
