On Election Day, Nobody Knows Anything

By Daniel Guss

@TheGussReport - At 6:43 pm on Election Day in 2016, Frank Luntz was one of the highest-profile political pollsters in America and tweeted his emphatic call that Hillary Clinton would soon be the next President of the United States.

How today's election turns out in Los Angeles or anywhere else is at-best anyone's guess.

But to see who I think will wind up as the next Los Angeles Mayor, City Controller et al, jump on over to my Substack, where I also predict the outcomes for control of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

And don't forget to vote!

LA's Chance to Punch Back: Kenneth Mejia for LA City Controller

By Daniel Guss
@TheGussReport - This is your chance, Los Angeles.
If you're fed up with what you see, experience and expect from LA City Hall, now is your chance to punch-back good and hard, or forever stop complaining about it.
In my new Substack column, I outline the roots of corruption that demand LA's next City Controller be as independent from City Hall as possible.  The only candidate who fits that bill is CPA Kenneth Mejia.
It is a rare instance where this column concurs with the LA Times Editorial Board.

On top of that good news, Mejia is also the only candidate with actual auditing experience and published plans for using data to improve the City.  In fact, he even volunteers at the deeply troubled LA Animal Services.

Odd Couple: Why Fed-Up LA Needs Mayor Rick Caruso and Controller Kenneth Mejia

By Daniel Guss
@TheGussReport - Los Angeles City Council is more responsible than any other government for the hideous conditions on the ground which have intensely bled into surrounding communities.
If it has accomplished anything good of late, or even in recent years, shoot me a note; I am not aware of a single praiseworthy and thorough endeavor. Not-a-one.
At any rate, lying, neurotic Mayor Eric Garcetti, aka Mayor Yoga Pants, will soon be gone after more than 21 disastrous years in LA City Hall.

For this and many other reasons, fixing LA starts by flanking it with grown-ups from somewhere other than the government to serve as a check and balance system to its immense failures, corruption, waste and its once again exposed deeply rooted racism.
My suggestion?
For starters, cast votes next week for Mayor Rick Caruso and Controller Kenneth Mejia, both of whom come from somewhere other than government.  While they may at first seem like polar opposites, in fact, they are the best available starter kit that a fed-up LA needs most.

Paul Koretz (Finally) Deletes Racists' Endorsements - But What About His Own Racist, Homophobic Comments?

By Daniel Guss

The fallout continues in response to vicious and cackling racist comments in a recorded conversation between LA City Council President Nury Martinez, Councilmembers Gil Cedillo and Kevin de Leon and Los Angeles County Federation of Labor President Ron Herrera.

But one desperate LA politician still clings to some of their endorsements like Rose to Jack in Titanic.  And just as in the movie, this political embrace didn't make it to dawn.

Find out who we're talking about by jumping over to my Substack.

Koretz's Corruption Continues - How Best Friends Keeps Ripping Off LA; Desperate Lawmaker's Latest Ploy

By Daniel Guss

@TheGussReport on Twitter

This column has for years reported that uber-wealthy Best Friends Animal Society continually rips off the people of Los Angeles with City Hall's blessing despite consistently raking in more than $50 million in annual revenue.

The media, mayors, controllers, commissioners and councilmembers, especially the embattled Paul Koretz, look the other way while homeless and lost animals at Los Angeles Animal Services, LAAS, suffer.

Koretz, responding to an media inquiry from this column last week, wrote, "I haven't seen your evidence (about another contractual breach by Best Friends).  I would find that interesting."

But Koretz has gone silent since seeing that evidence.

Rejecting Paul Koretz and Ron Galperin, LA Times Regains Some Of Its Marbles

By Daniel Guss

@TheGussReport - Like a rare hybrid eclipse, this column finally aligns with at least the essence of the Los Angeles Times' first two endorsements for the upcoming June primary, which are best summarized as:

  • Paul Koretz should not be the next LA City Controller
  • Ron Galperin should not be the next California Controller
Considering that the Times repeatedly endorsed locals like convicted felon Mitch Englander; indicted Jose Huizar and Mark Ridley-Thomas; Gavin Newsom, Jerry Brown, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Gray Davis; Eric Garcetti and Antonio Villaraigosa; Nury Martinez and Herb Wesson; Kamala Harris, George Gascon, Mike Bonin, bigamist Curren Price (despite his denials), other fakers and takers, and yes, Koretz and Galperin, it may now see the consequences of those disastrous recommendations.
I don't entirely buy that the Times gets it, yet, and neither should you.  But rejecting Koretz and Galperin in 2022 is a good start.

Eric Garcetti - Will He Be Rewarded For Failure, Lies and a Corrupt City Hall?

 By Daniel Guss

@TheGussReport - Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti is the 42nd and indisputably worst chief executive in the city's history, at least according to almost everyone other than the Los Angeles Times, which kept doubling down on him as City Council President and Mayor time and again.

Eric Garcetti
Source: Unknown
Today is your last chance to prevent him from being rewarded for it.

Tomorrow, the United States Senate takes up his nomination to become the next U.S. Ambassador to India, which is ironic, considering the filth, homelessness and corruption that flourished during his tenure in Los Angeles, where he is the only political constant during L.A.'s current two-decade demise.

His nomination is almost certain to be approved, though some in the Senate have said they're keeping an eye on his latest scandal: the sexual harassment allegedly committed right under Garcetti's nose, which he denies knowing about, except that New York Magazine proved that to be as much of a Garcetti lie as anything else.

Rick Jacobs, Eric Garcetti and Friends
Source: LA Times
As Jim Carrey said in "Dumb and Dumber," "so you're telling me there's a chance," to stop Garcetti?

Yes, indeed.

Truth is, Garcetti checked out of his Mayor's job long ago in favor of campaigning with Joe Biden, (which is why he may be rewarded for a job poorly done) and dispensing inaccurate and suffocating COVID guidelines such that he wound up ignoring them and catching it himself.  He can hardly do much further damage to L.A. in his remaining time here.

For this column, a few other issues stand out besides the nation's worst homelessness, crime et al.

1. Garcetti lied about LA becoming a "No Kill" city, at least until this column exposed his appointees for falsifying 8,807 pet "adoptions" by counting as "adopted" the moving of animals from one deadly pound kennel to another.

Loathesome, in this instance, is defined as politicians falsely claiming a political success with one raised fist while figuratively killing those animals with a needle jab in the other.

Garcetti's ruse, aided by Councilmembers Herb Wesson and Paul Koretz and City Controller Ron Galperin, suddenly ended with that column shining a light on their lie.  Garcetti's falsified statistics reverted overnight without explanation or apology.  (Koretz and Galperin now want your vote to be the next LA City Controller and County Supervisor, respectively.  Look for the LA Times to drool over them in the spring primary).

2. Garcetti lied when he said that during the pandemic, Angelenos could walk on the wet sand of a shore, but could not lay on the dry sand of the beach.  When I eventually caught up with him, I asked Garcetti about his basis for that directive, he falsely claimed "that was the science at the time."

It wasn't "the science" then.

It isn't "the science" now.

It will never be "the science."

3. Then there's the LAPD fighting this column tooth and nail to block the release of Computer Aided Dispatch records to this column to dig into allegations of a domestic incident at Garcetti's private residence. Think Garcetti isn't a target for blackmail?  Why would the LAPD and City Attorney Mike Feuer put up such a legal fight?  (And Feuer wants your vote to succeed Garcetti as Mayor, despite his office being raided by the FBI and the State Bar of California investigating him).

My gosh, even Garcetti's disgraced former chief of staff, Ana Guerrero, was suspended and stripped of her title (but not her lucrative salary) for viciously bullying people online, including legendary women of color.

If Garcetti being rewarded for all of this and more leaves a bad taste in your mouth, consider reaching out before Tuesday to Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chair Bob Menendez and Ranking Member Senator James Risch and the other Committee members.  Menendez and Risch can also be reached via Twitter @SenatorMenendez and @SenatorRisch respectively.

Speak up now or forever embrace acceptance.

Namaste, Mayor Yoga Pants.

LA Times Silent on Nury Martinez' COVID Hypocrisy, Censorship

By Daniel Guss

@TheGussReport - It was clear early on that when LA City Council chose Nury Martinez to succeed the perpetually self-dealing Herb Wesson as its president, she was disinclined to do the one thing that Wesson did well: Lead.

(Photo: LA City Council President Nury Martinez pontificates about masking, but needs practice on proper usage, though she did have time to get her name printed on hers.)

While Wesson led through intimidation, it ultimately led to his getting trounced by Holly Mitchell in his subsequent run to become an LA County Supervisor. Martinez' brand of leadership was quickly identified as faulty, as well.

As I wrote in this column at that time:

"Gadfly Patricia McAllister had just about enough with Nury's failure to embrace responsibility, letting it rip with this take: 'I want to say that Ms. Martinez, you brought your mother and everybody here and we gave you a good welcome. You're not woman enough to be up on that podium? (Ryu) is not the president. . . If you want to be with the boys, you got to do your job, okay? You're supposed to be at that podium, ma'am. . . Now you be a woman and stand-up for women and do your job. . . Now you wanna run with the boys, you gotta be like the boys, okay. . . Now you wanna get that kind of respect, you be like the boys. Get that skirt off, put some pants on and do your job.'"

McAllister made a valid if abrasively colorful point: Being LA City Council president means leadership, including running meetings, agenda management and drinking up criticism rather than being thin-skinned and just embracing the "historic!" title of the first Latina in that role.  Pat Russell was LA's first female Council president from 1983-87.  (Is it still okay for us to use the word "female?")

So let's look closer at Martinez' recent and ongoing heavy-handedness with censorship.

She is now armed with a COVID requirement for most indoor places in LA but continues to use the pandemic to silence the public, especially her critics, who want to attend Council meetings.

Over the past several weeks, Council's in-person meetings have resumed in LA City Hall's John Ferraro Chambers. But "in-person" in this instance means only maskless City Councilmembers and their staff.

Martinez continues to exclude the public from attending in-person, masked or not, even with proof of vaccination and has refused to respond to requests to explain her policy.

Why do you suppose that is?

Most Councilmembers have been maskless at their recent meetings, bellowing within feet of one another, and not just during their turn to speak. Why isn't the public allowed to attend those same meetings maskless, provided they have proof of vaccination?

Maskless Mike Bonin

Maskless Kevin DeLeon

Maskless Paul Koretz

Maskless Mitch O'Farrell

Maskless Mark Ridley-Thomas and Maskless Paul Krekorian

Maskless Gil Cedillo

Maskless Bob Blumenfield

It is because barring even the vaccinated public lets Martinez censor criticism by forcing everyone to attend via Zoom where she and those she assigns can exert control with the push of a button, even though she and her colleagues richly deserve the criticism which is an inherent part of a politician's life.

In fact, criticizing politicians is an inherently American tradition.

Her unwillingness to face and absorb criticism is another example of Martinez' failed leadership. She and Deputy City Attorney Strefan Fauble pick and choose whose phone numbers get called to speak during Council meetings and at their smaller Committee meetings.

Strefan Fauble

More importantly, either they or their designees choose which phone numbers do not get chosen to participate.

Further, Fauble, City Hall's School-Marm-in-Residence, feigns not knowing which item the chosen speaker is addressing and consistently talks over callers who are on-topic in order to eat away at their precious one minute to speak. He also randomly disconnects their calls rather than letting people who might not have his law school polish make their own points in their own ways.

That's what we call punching down at the little guy.

Then there's the retaliation.

Fauble, who has a forthcoming complaint to the State Bar of California for, among other things, threatening to have this columnist arrested for simply attempting to use his duly issued LAPD press pass at a Council meeting, also drags his feet on responding to public records requests endeavoring to determine which callers called-in first to meetings so they can be compared to callers he allowed to speak who did not call-in as early.

Perhaps Mr. Fauble forgot about a certain 1st Amendment lesson while at the University of Texas Law School. Or perhaps he didn't and feels he has free reign to violate others' rights.

What Fauble doesn't forget to do is continue to maliciously expose this columnist's personal data in public records requests for the umpteenth time. Cue the next claim and lawsuit.

That leads us to the question of the day: Why hasn't the LA Times pointed out Martinez' ongoing censorship by refusing to allow the public to attend Council meetings? That's what its news reporters like David Zahniser, Dakota Smith and Emily Alpert Reyes should have reported months ago.

And why hasn't the El Segundo Times Editorial Board called for Martinez' attendance ban to end so constituents and community stakeholders have the same direct access to the meetings enjoyed by Martinez, her 14 Council colleagues, Fauble and their minions?

That is, after all, the point of a news organization.

Where are you on this, LA Times? Isn't that "the type of journalism" that you promise when pleading for the public to spend 99-cents for an introductory subscription?

If the Times doesn't give a rat's petard about the public, why should the public feel any better about subscribing to the Times?

MLK Day Briefs on the Character (deprived?) Los Angeles (and beyond) Political Machine

On this Day that we honor the Legacy of Civil Rights Icon Martin Luther King Jr. the Mayor Sam Blog continues its tradition (actually daily endeavor) to NOT judge the operatives of our local Political Machine, based upon their Skin Color, but instead, document Acts of Policy Character (or lack of).
Wonder if MLK would favor Character/Merit-based Immigration, but I digress?
** Blogger's Notes: We want to wish everyone a great, MLK Day of Character Refection. To paraphrase the timeless vision of the Civil Rights Icon ........, "Today, like yesterday and tomorrow, politicos and enabling entities WILL NOT be judged by their ethnicity, but by the character content of their actions". That stated, we want to give bloggin witness to our cyber audience in continuing to expose (below) those in need of a CHARACTER INTERVENTION, but also COMMEND those (in a separate Blog Post later today), who's talk of Character .........., is matched by ACTION-----Scott Johnson.

** As Los Angeles City Clowncil Central Committee Member Mike Bonin, along with colleagues Paul Koretz, Marqueece Harris-Dawson and Jose Huizar seek approval to join the growing Green Leftist Lawsuit Demonetization of Big Oil (in reality, a redistribution money grab), the CD-11-derided Bike Lane Advocate and his Clowncil Climate (Fraud) Fellow Travelers, may want to allocate some office time to deal with EXPOSED realities (Chevron and its supported LA Jobs PAC) of Contribution Hypocrisy.

** To paraphrase noted American Social Commentator Forrest Gump (in fitting with the CD-1 Communal Culture) ......., "STUPIDO IS as STUPIDO DOES (especially if STUPIDO is also known as Broken Deal Cedillo)". The Act of Breaking Deals, Reneging on your Word (or SIGNED Letter as pictured above)), is second-nature to the Re-elected CD-1-representing City Clowncil Central Committee Member as ANGRY Lincoln Heights Community Members are witnessing.
** There was once a time in Los Angeles Journalistic History when the shouts of the Paper Boy pronouncing "EXTRA! EXTRA! Read all about it", merited a prompt response to indulge in the latest EXCLUSIVE missive ........., based upon objective facts. But decades later, the Paper Boy has been replaced with an App on your Cell Phone, that acts as a Propaganda Dispenser of "STUFF" too good to be true ........, from a certain "Old Gray Collectivist Resister on Spring Street". Indeed, the State of local Journalism, is devolving into a One Political Party Regurgitation of Anti-Trump/Republican Disinformation, that serves as a cover for the GROWING corruption, via the CADEM Establishment/Special Interest United Machine, which controls "Cubafornia on the Pacific". But for those who STILL espouse to practice the craft of Reporting, based upon Who, What, Where, When, How and Why (without bias or shakedown for Public Funds), we present The View's Megyn McCain's Tutorial on deconstructing a Journalistic Fraud. HOT Morning Briefs on the Los Angeles Political Machine for Monday

The Mayor Sam Blog presents a "Bloggin Then and Now Moment" featuring former Failure Mayor Antonio Villar-(then Raigosa) Mayoral Deputy Jim Bickhart, who's "Snake Pliskin Persona" was the cause for an "Unpaid Fall from Grace", has resurface in a PAID Political Staff Position ........., with surprising Policy Responsibilities.
Former Failure Mayor Villar-(then Raigosa) Deputy Jim Bickhart exerting his OVERSIGHT of Animal Services in 2007.
** Blogger's Notes: Great Monday to all as we present a "Bloggin Then and Now Moment" featuring VETERAN City Hall Staffer/Political Crony Jim Bickhart. Once upon a political time (back in the Failure Mayor Antonio Villar-then Raigosa Era), a THEN Deputy Mayor Bickhart, was observe exercising his "Oversight" of the much-malign Animal Services Department.
One could surmise during his "Episodes of Oversight", that Bickhart was engaging his "Inner Snake Pliskin Persona", which allegedly, had opinions that were contrary to the Official Policies of his Boss Tony (regarding Overnight RV Parking Zones in Venice) ........, as excerpted below.
“We got what we wanted on the RVs and campers. Who do we go after next? We can’t stop until this place is all cleansed. Wash away the scum. ALL of it.” “Who cares? Villa-la-grossa is just as big a coward as Rosendahl. Maybe the Stakeholders are right – if these folks won’t leave, we should get someone to come around with a semi, load the homeless scum into it like stinking sardines and drive them out to the Mojave. Dump ‘em there in the dead of night blindfolded and drive away. Period. End of story.” “Next time one of those wussies heckles you, just pop ‘em one. No. They protect scum, they should be treated like scum. It doesn’t matter if they make money sucking on the government tit or if there Wolfgang frigging *#!%$!. Time is running short.”
......., and needless to say  Birkhart PAID a short term cost for his "Inner Snake Pliskin Thoughts". But years later (in 2017), Birkhart's Pliskin Homeless Commentary has apparently been FORGIVEN as the longtime servant of the City Hall Establishment, has a NEW GIG ..........., with some surprising responsibilities.

From CD-5 Paul Koretz's Staff Bios ..........,  Jim (or Snake?) consults on a variety of policy and legislative matters, including housing, homelessness, land use, airports, infrastructure, environment and animal welfare, amongst others. Additionally he provides support in the area of communications

Its apparent that being a Crony Enabler has REDEEMING benefits.
The STILL Assemblyman Jimmy Gomez to Washingtion D.C. Burro (with Carpetbag) is on Standby.
** The transition from "Assembly Somebody to Congressional Nobody" is sadly nearing for STILL Assemblyman Jimmy Gomez as his MUCH-LAUDED victory over the "Big Red Morrison Machine" .........., nears its MUCH-RIDICULED end as the vacillating Congressman-elected five week delay in seeking to support Governor Moonbeam II's "Cap and Trade Extension", has apparently come to NAUGHT.
Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) Board of Trustee Member Gabriel Buelna.
** Does, NEW LACCD Board of Trustee Member Gabriel Buelna have an EL PLAN  ............, to returned the reformed Educational Entity into its former DOCUMENTED (via the LA Times), "Cronyism over Merit Contracting Proclivities"? Supporters of Pro Active Reforms at LACCD might want to take a Cyber Moment to Google "Gabriel Buelna, Gustavo Valdivia" ..........., then Google "Gustavo Valdivia, Samuel In, Mayor Sam" .........., next Google "Gustavo Valdivia, Grande Vista Associates, HACLA, LA Times"  ......... and ponder whether Trustee Buelna can be TRUSTED to continue the needed reforms----Scott Johnson.

Morning Briefs on the Los Angeles Political Machine for Wednesday

The Improbable Campaign of upstart 39th Assembly District Candidate Patty Lopez, edges closer to Victory, as the latest batch of processed Ballots gives it a 235 Vote Lead over Incumbent Assemblyman Raul Bocanegra.
"Team Patty Lopez" at the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder. Photo via David Hernandez
Darn, this pending Political Upset smells so good for democracy!
The Improbable Campaign of Patty Lopez has sent shock waves across not only the Northeast San Fernando Valley, but throughout the City of Los Angeles. If Lopez holds on to beat Bocanegra, the first aftershock of this political equivalent of the 1971 Sylmar Earthquake, will be the upcoming CD 6 City Clowncil Central Committee Rematch between current Clowncilwoman Nury Martinez and Cindy Montanez.
With the chance of probability on the same level as this blogger's next use of "Spollcheck", Clowncilwoman Martinez Husband Gerry Guzman's role (G7 Strategy Group, INC.) in the Bocanegra Campaign, is surely to garner some unwanted attention, considering the negative, dismissive tone directed at Team Patty Lopez.
07/07/2014G7 STRATEGY GROUP, INC.CAMPAIGN CONSULTANTS$12,500.00

** This is why CD 5 City Clowncil Central Committee Member Paul Koretz has been labeled the reigning "Nanny Spud" within the Horseshoe at 200 Spring Street.
Yawn!! CD 5 City Clowncil Central Committee Member Paul Koretz opposes the Keystone Pipeline.
While the City of Los Angeles faces a looming Budget Shortfall and underfunded Pension Obligations, the reigning "Nanny Spud" of the City Clowncil Central Committee Paul Koretz found quality time for a Photo Op with some of his Democratic Environmental Fellow Travelers, to denounce the mega job-producing Keystone Pipeline. Joining the "Nanny Spud" in this exercise of environmental revisionism, were the Sierra Club's (and DWP Human Resources Director by day) Susana Reyes and SEIU 721 President Bob Schooonover. We are sure out-going Louisiana Democratic Senator Mary Landreiu appreciated the gesture, but then we know how much love the Sierra Club has for "Business Democrats".
** Can we call this a "Home Conversion Cover-up?"
You too can use Public Money to convert your Garage into a Man Cave.
There is a strong probability that a certain, now incarcerated former SEIU 6434 General Manager (Tyrone Freeman), has received a gleeful message from his noted Political Ally LA County Board of Supervisor Mark "Home Renovation-Thomas", on how he beat the rap for using Public Funds in converting his Garage into a personal Man Cave. But the self-styled South LA Political Boss may not want to celebrate too quickly, as it appears that the LA Times is not ready to back down in getting at the root of this latest ethical breach from the Friend of Tyrone.
Your thoughts ...............
Scott Johnson in CD 14
