** The Downtown News Editor and "Scribe of Wit" Jon Regardie, finds one local politician who maintains a healthy level of skepticism, regarding the NFL returning to a newly-built Farmers Field in Downtown LA.

Speaking at a Downtown lunch event today hosted by the Los Angeles Current Affairs Forum, Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas expressed skepticism that the league stands ready to make a deal with Anschutz Entertainment Group that would result in having pro football in L.A. for the first time since 1994.
“I don’t know that you can trust the NFL in terms of negotiating,” said Ridley-Thomas during the event at the Sheraton Hotel. “You think it’s Farmers Field, but they’re out right now negotiating, optioning the project somewhere else. That’s what they do. Why? Because they always want to stir it up. And they’ll never tell you.”

These comments may not go over well with Thomas brother and sisters union friends.

** The Downtown News also has the exclusive of the new incarnation of the former politically-connected real estate firm of Meruelo-Maddox, which is now called Evoq Properties.

After a two-year court process, Meruelo and Maddux were ousted as part of a reorganization plan that allowed an outside investment group armed with $23.6 million in private equity to take a majority share of the company. New management was implemented, with Martin Caverly, who previously ran a real estate consulting firm, taking over as CEO.

Gone are the days when you can buy some contaminated property and have LAUSD make you a big profit through Eminent Domain.

Throughout this week on the blog, we will go back in time and bring you examples of past expenditures and moment of political disinformation on the status of the fund. In today's flashback, we post a video of former Councilman Pacheco briefing the Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council on his expectations for the amenities fund.

Meet Congressional Bully Brad Sherman as he nearly goes Gangsta on Congressman Howard Berman

There's an awful lot of Democrats in this video and one of the kings of the blowhards, Zev Yaroslavsky, but it sure seems like if you have to choose between Berman or Sherman, Berman is the way to go.

Former Glendale Mayor, MTA Chairperson and Talk Show Host Larry Zarian passes at 73

Many in the large Armenian and Los Angeles Political Community will be shocked and sadden at the passing of Glendale's Larry Zarian today at the age of 73. From the Daily News Wire Services.

Former Glendale mayor and city councilman Larry Zarian died today, according to a representative for his family.

Zarian succumbed to an aggressive cancer that prevents the body from making healthy blood cells. He was 73, and was surrounded by his sister, three sons and other close family and friends when he died this morning, Kim Milstien said.

Zarian was the first Armenian to be elected to the Glendale City Council in 1983. He went on to serve four terms and is the city's longest-serving mayor.

Zarian was considered a leader on transportation issues. He was selected by former President Ronald Reagan to serve on National Highway Safety Commission and also chaired the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority board.

Zarian was also known for hosting "The Larry Zarian Forum," a talk show on a local access cable channel.

County Supervisor Mike Antonovich counted Zarian a friend and supporter and said he sent condolences to the Zarian family.

KFI' John and Ken posted this YouTube video by Burbank Journalist Peter Musurlian which features him being evicted from a Assemblyman Mike Gatto Townhall Event in Glendale. In honor of Peter's investigative videos reaching a greater audience, we present the "Assemblyman Mike Gatto YouTube Festival". 

** MORNING UPDATE: Via the keyboard of LA Times Sacramento Reporter George "Union Man" Skelton

"It's always been an easy move to bash the disliked, but the truth is that such demagoguery is rapidly becoming cliche," freshman Assemblyman Mike Gatto (D-Silver Lake) said in a written statement. "I now have to explain to my wife and daughter that we won't be able to pay the bills because a politician chose to grandstand at our expense."  From Gatto's "Temper Tantrum".

Gatto should have written that for his own catharsis and promptly ripped it up. There was no demagoguery in Chiang's statement, unless someone might consider this to be: "The [budget] numbers simply did not add up."

And, frankly, it's inconceivable that Gatto's constituents would really give a hoot about his having to explain the family finances at home.

The talk and walk of CD 2 City Councilman Paul Krekorian

Thanks to Communitcation Director Jeremy Oberstein of CD 2 City Councilman Paul Krekorian's office for relaying us the two photos above of yesterday's City Council observance of the 96th Anniversity of the Armenian Genocide, co hosted by City Council President Eric Garcetti and Councilman Paul Krekorian.

UCLA Professor Richard Hovannisian was honor for his academic work in documenting the history of the 1.5 million Armenians put to death by the Ottoman Turks.and using this history to combat all forms of genocide.

Update: Peter informs us: "The landlord called me at 10:20 tonight and said the sign is down and she had nothing to do with it. I believe her. She was nice and genuinely upset."
