Current City Controller and Mayoral Candidate Wendy “The Villar Greuel” trotted out her “silence the  messenger persona” last evening at the Mayoral Debate at Cal State LA, as she sought to portrait herself as the crusading messenger against “WASTE, FRAUD and ABUSE” , who an unrepentant City Council would love to silence. Next!

Former Bet Tzedek Executive Director and Assemblyman Mike Feuer would love you to believe that his Sacramento vote-changing ways, combine with his administrating “tens of lawyers (times two) at Bet Tzedek, along with hundreds of enabling endorsements and NO trail court experience, makes him an worthy candidate for City Attorney? Next!

Termed out CD 3 City Councilman Dennis Zine, attempts to one up his “Denise Zine Drag Persona” by attempting to be come the City Controller “Manly Valley Greuel” incarnation, is not getting rave reviews (or endorsements). Next!

The termed-out Assembly duo of Felipe Fuentes  and “Two-face Bob” Blumenfeld, would love the voters of CD 7 and CD 3 respectively, believe that their city council personas are authentic via the union label. Next!

A certain “Westside White Guy” purveyor of puffy “Pop Star Missives” has the gall to call Ron Kaye a “broken record” for espousing support of Kevin James and Jan Perry? This from the same supposed “Westside Pulitzer”? Next!

Will attacks from the like of "Westside Business White Guy" Marl Lacter help put the Villar Greuel Campaign out of business?

Memo to the "Private Citizen/ Political Consultant of the City Controller Wendy "The Villar Greuel Campaign John Shallman, you have some big time trouble brewing in West LA. The West LA Observed Business Blogger Marl Lacter, posted this missive, that speaks non-too-kindly of your pandering, stooge candidate of the Mayor Antonio Villar Political Machine. This is hilarious coming from one of the "WWGs", at the "Observing West LA Blog of Record".

L.A.'s City Controller continues to be the most disappointing candidate in the mayor's race. In desperately seeking the support of public unions, she is exhibiting zero backbone or vision - just obnoxious brown-nosing. Here she is taking shots at City Councilman Eric Garcetti during a closed-door meeting of union workers (as reported by the LAT's Dave Zahniser:)

Regarding her ceaseless pandering to SEIU 721.

First off, what is she and Garcetti doing at a closed-door anything? Didn't she learn from Mitt Romney's 47 percent fiasco that voters aren't that thrilled at candidates trying to curry favor in private, especially when the audience has such a large stake in the race? (Jan Perry should be pooling her nickels for 30-second spots on the back-room shenanigans.) And that bit about layoffs - it's disingenuous bullshit. Truth is, the Council almost never lays people off. Elimination of vacant positions - yes. But it's extremely rare that an L.A. city worker doesn't have an opportunity to be transferred to another department. That's one of the dirty little secrets about how the city is run. So let's cut the sanctimonious crap about walking the walk, shall we? By contrast, Garcetti was positively statesmanlike in laying out the city's fiscal troubles - much of which are the result of out-of-control pension and health care costs. (By the way, the union didn't even bother inviting the three other candidates.) Now it's true that both candidates really need labor support in the March election. The question is at what cost - not only to the rest of their base of support, but to their integrity. This race is making me nauseous.

Could the Villar Greuel lose West LA? More later ..............

The City Council "King of Retorts" CD 8 City Councilman Bernard Parks.

** Blogger's note: It was only time before the Office of CD 8 City Councilman Bernard Parks responded to the Gene Maddaus's "subjective agenda missive" in the "Former Weekly of Record", now the "Daily, Fact Devoid, Hatchet Job of Record", regarding to his supposed "power-clinging ways" on the the Coliseum Commission. Well ......., that time is here and this retort is classic!---Scott Johnson.

THIS IS A RETORT CLASSIC.

From the LA Weekly ............

Parks writes, "It's been said that facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored. Someone should tell that to Gene Maddaus, who may have set a world record in the 1,500-meter trash with his article. Maddaus' 1,500 words were nothing more than a biased effort to push the agenda of some Coliseum commissioners who favor their interim general manager and USC's acquisition of the Coliseum.

"I know this because after I went public with my disapproval of interim Coliseum general managerJohn Sandbrook due to his lack of competence and the USC Master Lease due to its lack of credibility months ago, Coliseum staff informed my staff that Sandbrook intended to make things difficult for a nonprofit organization that hosts an annual scholarship fundraiser in the Exposition Park Rose Garden. The collateral damage in this political tit-for-tat would be my wife, who happens to be the vice president of the nonprofit.

"At issue was an alcohol license that the previous Coliseum general manager offered to the organization for the event. Sandbrook determined that the use of the license was improper and informed my office. My office informed the nonprofit group, and without any hesitation or hassle, the group decided to obtain a different alcohol license. They have used the same license for the last two years with no incident.

"My staff informed Maddaus of Sandbrook's plot and also gave him an email showing that I advised the former commission president as well as Sandbrook to have the Alcohol [sic] Beverage Control investigate this matter. However, this information never made it into the article.

"Despite this trivial circumstance, Maddaus tried to link the scholarship fundraiser to my position on USC's lease, claiming that I opposed USC control of the Coliseum because I would no longer 'decide which community groups get access' (to the venue). First off, the fundraiser is held in the Rose Garden — not the Coliseum. And secondly, the Coliseum Commission has no say over events in the Rose Garden.

"Throughout the article, when Maddaus wasn't picking and choosing the facts as he pleased, he was making baseless statements and attributing them to ... no one or nothing in particular! In one instance, he wrote: ' ... the L.A. Times obtained a confidential draft of the lease — likely from Parks' office ... .' And, he never substantiated that very strong accusation with sources or evidence; not even a hazy outline of a gunman on the grassy knoll. This wouldn't fly in my office's weekly newsletter, and it certainly shouldn't be accepted by a publication that boasts about 'decoding Los Angeles for its readers.' "

"The only thing this story 'decoded' was what some commission members and staff have been adolescently gossiping about for months. I don't know whether it was Sleepy, Bashful, Grumpy or Dopey who spoon-fed him all of the half truths, but at least Maddaus was courageous enough to attach his name to his countless misguided thoughts instead of cowering in secrecy.

"The speculative nature of the Maddaus piece and the attempts by an embittered cabal of commissioners to hobble events in my community for payback are still dwarfed by two much weightier issues: the Coliseum corruption scandal and USC's new master lease. 

"I challenge the L.A. Weekly to adhere to its mission statement by 'confronting the city's political leaders' (those not afraid to be quoted, of course) on all of the issues surrounding one of our most beloved venues instead of writing stories now and recognizing the facts later." OUCH!!

** Speaking of "OUCH Moments", Mayor Antonio Villar is again on the receiving end of a verbal slap back over his "Republican Brown Face, Window Dressing Comments". This time its Utah Haitian American Mayor Mia Love, who calls upon the former Tony Villar to "start being responsible".  

** Once again,  Mt Washington Lawyer/Activist Dan Wright shines the legal light on 200,000 words of phony documentation that were incorporated into the City of Los Angeles Planning Department approval of an Eric Garcetti inspired skyscraper in Hollywood. Thanks to the work of Wright and his Silverstein Law Firm employer, that project is on hold. 

** Via Councilman Huizar's "Bloggin Maven on Choice", we learn that the "Westside White Guy" aka Kevin Roderick, has gone uber prissy on CD 2 City Councilman Paul Krekorian for daring to garner media attention over the ambulance bills sent to the families of two deceased Good Samaritans.

 "How about instead of a press conference for the cameras, (Councilman Paul) Krekorian quietly announces that he'll ask the full council to quash the fees — and if the council won't or can't, he could offer to pay the bills out of his office slush fund,"

Cut and Paste Briefs on the Los Angeles Political Scene for Friday

"The bright beacon of corruption on Hope Street"

A day after Los Angeles City Council President Eric Garcetti, manipulated Council procedural rules to pass an emergency motion to raise utility rates, the Department of Water and Power Commission voted to give their concurrence to the scheme, errrr, plan to move Los Angeles along toward its goal of becoming the "Green Energy Beacon to the World", Proceeds from this are surely to benefit the likes of S. David Freeman, Ari Swiller, IBEW, paid for by the families and businesses of LA.

As usual Mayor Parkervillar's Deputy Chief of Staff for Spin Matt Szabo, is good for some example of double-speak.

Villaraigosa promised in the 2005 election campaign that he would reach a 20% renewable goal at the DWP wiithin five years. Szabo said Villaraigosa is not giving up on that goal and will work with council members to achieve it.

Reading between the lines, Mayor Parkervillar is not giving up on his Green Energy Scheme to line the pockets of his political friends with this tax hike on Angelinos.

Thus, the multi part political tragedy that was the "Great DWP Standoff at 200 Spring Street", ends its limited engagement, until the next installment of rate increases.

OTHER NEWS:

** While the likes of Boss D'Acry's IBEW reap increases to their monetary bottom line, the City of Los Angeles "Coalition of Unions", have release a plan outlining ways to prevent future layoffs in the city workforce. That enlisted this response, from once again, Deputy Chief of Staff for Spin Matt Szabo.

"The mayor's always open to constructive solutions from labor," said Villaraigosa Deputy Chief of Staff Matt Szabo. "But he also must operate within the realm of reality."

The "man of labor" once again speaks from his heart......

** AEG's strongman, whoops, President Tim LIEweke is teaming with Casey Wasserman, in proposing a NFL stadium on the site of the LA Convention Center's West Hall. No doubt if their plan moves forward, that some sort of corporate welfare, paid for by city residents and businesses, will be a part of the proposal.

** What is up with all the "trolley billboards" downtown? Los Angeles Garment and Citizen Newspaper Editor Jerry Sullivan, has the details in his latest "Dat, Dat, Dish Column".

** Downtown visitors beware, the California Democratic Convention makes its subsidize appearance at the Convention Center, for the first time in recent memory. No word if former 43rd District Assemblyman Dario "Duhio" Frommer will be given any time to address the pandering masses, with his conspiracy theory regarding our "close ties" to EDH Associates.

** In the words of Parque Esqueleto, "Gosh durn it!!" I Parke Skelton, the image crafter of the progressive, populist hero from City Terrace, Mayor Tony Villar, made # 51 on the Capital Weekly's most influential political players in California politics list.

** ......... and lastly, how does the "Westside White Guy" describes the Neon Tommy profile of former Daily News Editor, turned citizen advocate Ron Kaye? Read for yourself.

The story captures Kaye as a 68-year-old white ex-newspaperman from the far west end of the Valley who wants to create a "new revolution" that goes beyond the early-2000s secession campaign he stage-managed as managing editor of the Daily News. His fellow travelers are still mostly angry white guys from the Valley, and though he hasn't gotten so much political traction, Aron notes Kaye has been deft at attracting media attention.

...... and Roderick is some supposed Pulitzer Award winning ex. scribe for the former "fishwrap of record" which has become, now merely the "West LA dog trainer of record".

this refering to the possibility that the Times would allow ads for "Gentlemen Clubs" in the near future.

Right now Higby and Roderick must be waving their dollar bills in unity. A certain big city mayor is swamping the editorial rooms with phone calls seeking to get back in the good graces with the editorial board and the strip clubs are creating a flash flood of revenue requesting ad space.

Yes, and this will get better if "TRAILER PARK ZELL" allows ads for Turner's Sporting Goods promoting the latest in guns and gunracks. That will boost sales in S.T.

One can see the shock and vile in the days ahead from the likes of Morrison, Rutten, Martinez, and retirees such as Boyarsky. Plus, somewhere in the catacombs a Hiltzik will be playing with his "Sock Puppet".

YOU GO SAM!!, and remember to put that pole on the roof to good use.

BREAKING NEWS!!! Los Angeles Times endorses Obama, McCain

The Los Angeles Times breaking with the past tradition of not endorsing Presidential candidates, will give their blessings to Obama and McCain in its Sunday edition.

In anything that has to do with the "OLD GREY HAG ON SPRING STREET", it is the "OBSERVING WEST L.A. LIFE AND HIS TIMES" web site and its former Times scribe Kevin Roderick, aka, "Westside White Guy" who broke this news.

My first thought upon reading this is first to conmend the Times in finding two worthy Democrats to endorse.

But then the Times was reaffirming their left of center political viewpoint with its newsroom, West L.A. reader base, and retirees such as Roderick, Conrad, and Boyarsky. Plus the "DEAR LEADER" of main stream news bias, Tim "KIM IL" Rutten must be happy.

But also, what does this say for the persuasive powers of one Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa? Just a couple of weeks ago Villaraigosa and "MRS. BILL CLINTON were chatting it up with the scribes in the newsroom on her "meet and greet" with the editors in the "PEOPLE'S EDITORIAL ROOM".

I guess the luster, power of persuasion and political capital is trending downwards for the once bright star of the emerging latino political community.

So much for the moniker "LA ANTONIA TIMES".
