Scooping (LA) Observed Again - Tribune v Tribune
Not to steal thunder from the Chief's hot list, but I want to focus some of the storm on one of our other favorite targets, my buddy Kevin over at (LA) Observed.
Everyone should know at this point about the various posts throughout the local LA blogs regarding the firefight between him and Martini Republic and ourselves. Martini's LA Blog is the best spot for an update/summary and they are more than worthy of their spot on the hot list.
Everyone also knows that Kevin now gets up at 1:00 AM to cut & paste from the LA Times out of pressure from the other "local blogs" who are scooping him every other day.
Knowing that he doesn't react well to pressure when he feels we cross into his territory, I can only imagine his reaction when he reads this in the middle of the night. I'll be over at the misses, so I'll have to tune in to this drama in the morning.
Well, he missed a story on his own beat today, so unfortunately (OK, fortunately) I have to scoop him on this one too! Now for the post within a post.
Tribune vs. Tribune
From Steve Harvey's Only in LA Column today in the LA Times, a Tribune company:
A little privacy, please: Commuters shaving or applying makeup on the morning drive are not uncommon sights. While I was away, Don Barrett's laradio.com website shared a shot of Desiree Horton of KTLA-TV Channel 5, who had not finished with her makeup when it was time for her airborne traffic report. Here's the good news: Horton wasn't the pilot.
KTLA-TV Channel 5 is a partner under the Tribune umbrella. This morning Sam Ruben was on the air trashing Harvey and the Times. Apparently KTLA has two issues with the Times. First, the picture they used of Horton was taken as part of a gag reel/ joke segment. The Times took that picture completely out of context, and KTLA views this as an ethical violation on their part. Second, Harvey claims that Horton is not a pilot and this is completely not true.
There you have it. Your LA Times update that Kevin slept through.

KTLA 5 is the worst morning news show ever. They try to be "hip" but sound so lame.
Sam Rubin is an elf douche bag he can't even get his damn facts and sources straight.

Sam Rubin used to be a student reporter at KLCS, the LAUSD channel.
See - more reasons not to vote for Huizy.

Mayor sam, you should ban Kevin Roderick from posting on your site since he does not allow comments on his blog. What a hater!

Anonymous has it right. Worst post ever in Mayor Sam's domain. The point of all of it was?

I'm guessing that the point of this post is that these big media mergers were sold on the basis of "convergence" -- advertisers can depend on one company for TV, radio, print, outdoor, and online media. What's interesting here is that the media properties owned by Tribune Co. are at odds with each other; what's the value of "convergence" when outlets owned by one company are bashing each other? It seems to hurt the corporate structure.
