Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council Member Carlos Montes (with united Community Support) beats back "Petition for Removal"

In a stinging defeat for the Pro-Councilman Jose Huizar/Connected Non-Profit Faction of the Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council, the character-attacking charade that was a Kangaroo Court-like "Petition of Removal" against community-backed Carlos Montes, went down to defeat by a 8-7 vote.
Carlos Montes (in black glasses) gives rebuttal to the "Petition of Removal" against him.
** Blogger's Note: Old habits die hard at the Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council and the sound heard around the BH Political Landscape last evening, was the latest Kangaroo Court-like attempt to oust someone who would not accommodate the desires of the Huizar Political Machine ....., gone bad. A united, capacity crowd of diverse Stakeholders, sent a clear message that it would not tolerate the "Petition of Removal" against longtime Community Activist and BHNC Member Carlos Montes. The actions against Montes were clearly a attempt to remove a vocal leader who would be an impediment to the Political Agenda of CD 14 City Councilman Jose Huizar and his Connected Non-Profits supporters (ELACC, El Centro de Ayudo and others). The Pro-Huizar Faction of the BHNC (Mago Amador and her Del Pozo allies) "Jumped the Shark" in underestimating Montes community support and in turn, weaken themselves in face of a growing backlash over their conduct, especially BHNC President Vera Del Pozo and Mago Amador, who recent actions as members of the LAPD Hollenbeck CPAB, merit further review----Scott Johnson.
A capacity-filled room was united in its support of Carlos Montes.
Every Public Speaker from diverse backgrounds and political points of view, voiced their respective support of Carlos Montes.
The Testimonials of Support for Carlos Montes continues ...........
Meanwhile, Huizar Cronies Diane Del Pozo and Mago Amador (with cellphone camera) can only smirk and photograph the backlash against their attempted "Petition of Removal" of Carlos Montes, which was properly defeated with united Community Support.

Hot Monday Afternoon Briefs on the Los Angeles Political Machine

As Mayor Eric "Gar-Soft-ee" scuttles another attempt to revisit the South LA Church where "Black Lives Matter" Protesters prompted a Mayoral Retreat, the likes of LAPD Blogger Jasmyne Cannick and Boyle Heights Community Activist Carlos Montes are standing up against the Political Machine's attacks on their Right to Free Speech.
When will the City Attorney/LAPD disclose their evidence regarding Jasmyne Cannick's alleged conduct at the November 26, 2014 Downtown LA Ferguson Protest?
** Blogger's Note: From the First Amendment of the United States Constitution, as a refresher for the likes of Mayor Eric "Gar-Soft-ee", LAPD Chief Charlie Beck and CD 14 City Councilman Jose Huizar ..........., The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitutionprohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances. We offer up this Free Speech reminder in the spirit of reminding the politicos listed above, that retaliating against the likes of civic activists, LAPD Blogger Jasmyne Cannick and and Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council Member Carlos Montes, has and will, engender a blowback of protests (and possible monetary losses in Civil Court). Cannick, who's LAPD-centric Blog has become the cyberthorn in the backside of LAPD Chief Charley Beck,, is facing trumped-up charges of "resisting police" but has yet to be presented with the evidence against her.  Montes, who is a Leftist Progressive, is facing a "Petition of Removal" from the Bole Heights Neighborhood Council for being a alleged, disrupted persona. The actions against Montes are not the first time that an NC Member who was not a Councilman Huizar ally, has been targeted by the Officeholder supporters. A few years back, Community Activist (and "-3 Huizar Critic") Jose Aguilar was removed from the Office of President via dubious reasons. While disagreeing on 90% plus on the political positions of both Cannick and Montes, both should be accorded the respect for their efforts in disclosing wrong-doings and standing up for their principles ........, without retaliation from the Political Machine---Scott Johnson.

Did BHNC President Vera Del Pozo Disrespect the Memory of the Late Ruben Salazar?

Did Community Politics play a role in the denial by Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council President Vera del Pozo, of a request by fellow BHNC Member Carlos Montes, to honor late LA Times Reporter Ruben Salazar, with a "Moment of Silence", on the 45th Anniversary of his Murder in East LA?
Note at the 6:25 Mark on the video the request by BHNC Member Carlos Montes, to adjourn the Meeting of the NC, with a "Moment of Silence" in honor of late LA Times Reporter Ruben Salazar.
** Blogger's Note: On the day before the 45th Anniversary of the death of LA Times Reporter Ruben Salazar during the Chicano National Moratorium March in East LA, a simple request to honor a slain reporter, (coming just 48 hours after race-related murders of two media members in Virginia), has created a community controversy, with its foundation in petty, payback politics. Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council Member (and its former President) Carlos Montes, made a request to newly-installed President Vera del Pozo, that the concluding meeting of the NC, be adjourned in the honor of the 45th Anniversary of the death of Ruben Salazar and a "Moment of Silence" be observed. But as evident at the 6:25 mark on the video above, his request was ignored/denied by President del Pozo.
After the meeting, a disappointed Montes posted the following on Facebook; "Very sad: at last nights Boyle Heights Neighborhood B.h. Council Board meeting the new president Vera del Pozo refused to hold a moment of silence for Ruben Salazar who was killed 45 years ago in ELA on August 29, 1970 while reporting on the Chicano Moratorium! Send her a message to her Face Book". and born was a Social Media-driven community dialog/ controversy. President Vera's sister (and fellow NC Board Member) Diane del Pozo Mora keyboard this, in defense of her sibling; "Her reason .... it was that the meeting had already been adjourned. There is a time and place for everything. You could have done it at the beginning of the meeting to offer the correct attention and time but no you walked in late. How dare you call her out on like that. You crossed the line. Vera del Pozo Phillip Jr. del Pozo Margarita Mago Amador Beatriz Ochoa Rafael Chagoya Fanny Redhothellraiser Ortiz this is a true attack on her character. But sadly in recent months, meetings of the BHNC have dissolved into personal (and political-driven) episodes of attacks on the character of NC Members. Thus, a exercise in honoring the memory of a renowned Reporter, becomes captive to another vile act of petty, payback politics---Scott Johnson.

Morning Brief on the undemocratic Boyle Heights Political Machine for Tuesday

Morning Briefs from CD 14's Boyle Heights where "One Huizzy Rule" is wearing thin on its constituents.
The Heights of Grievances against "One Huizzy Rule" are growing as constituents push back against undemocratic decrees.
Hola from the East Bank of the Los Angeles River where once again, we find the Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council in the grips of turmoil as "One Huizzy Rule" wear thin on constituent.
According to sources, the Pro-Huizar Faction on the BHNC, has leveled multiple charges of misconduct against the Carlos Montes-led Executive Body, which has prompted an extraordinary Special Meeting for tomorrow at the Boyle Heights City Hall (agenda posted below).
Controversy is no stranger to the BHNC, especially when someone who does not conform to the dictates of "One Huizzy Rule", is elected to a position of power on the body, witness the "Disempowerment LA" removal (with Huizar cronies support) of elected BHNC President Jose Aguilar in recent years.
The one constant in any controversy afflicting the BHNC is the role of Councilman Huizar's "Uber-Shillita Mago Amador". Its no secret that Amador was not happy when she was recently voted out as Secretary. The former Cuatro Flats Associate, has in the past, targeted non Huizar-supporting NC Members. Thus, with many Huizar-supported projects coming on line in the comings years, its imperative under "One Huizzy Rule" that the natural "Huizar Order of Governance", be return to the BHNC.
** But the "Powers to Be" should be aware that unsubstantiated actions against a true, community-representing body, will only engender an united pushback against "One Huizzy Rule".

Morning Briefs on the Los Angeles Political Machine for Monday

From his days as a Clowncilman Villar staffer, through gigs at DONE (aka "DONE DUM"), California State Government, with IT stops (mixed with Cyber Trolling, allegedly) along the way, Ulisses Sanchez is the latest ex. Clowncilman Huizar associate/staffer to gain employment, by shilling for a major project within the "Princeton Graduate's" Political Fiefdom.
A Bloggin Uli Flashback!!
Sources just confirmed that Jose Huizar is frantically try to find out who is Red Spot and whom might be blogging bad about him. He has aquired the help of two I.T. Specialist named Uli and one Mr. Lucero. Apperently they have been talking to men people about their assignment. I hope they know this is illegal and the Feds are probably monitoring Huizar moves. Wouldn't want to get you gentalmen mixed up in all this.

Outtakes from CD-14 Special Report: Region 8 NC Elections Saturday

Today is Election Day for all CD-14 NC's outside of Downtown LA
Will NC elections serve as a barometer of the "Princeton Graduate, Dear Charro" City Councilman's influence, as we near the mid-way point of his second full term?
But there is no questioning the fact that current CD 14 staff will be out and about today, observing and ensuring, that the "right candidates" are getting the right amount of voting resources (via the promises of turkey vouchers, Christmas toys and maybe, some CLARTS love).

Yet, today's exercise in advisory democracy, has generated some headlines, that may have future repercussions on such issues as the future of the Southwest Museum, Medical Marijuana, unregulated charter schools, and CBO-led gentrification of a historical community. Below we briefly review each of today's elections and post a link to polling locations. Remember, you too can take part in advisory democracy by merely exercising local commerce in the NC of choice.

:Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council:
The ERNC Election is ground zero for the backlash against the failed Medical Marijuana Ban authored by Councilman Huizar. By the time the polling place at the old Eagle Rock City Hall closes this afternoon, its a 50/50 chance that the ERNC could go to weed, especially if their union allies get out the vote.** This blogger endorses Robert Guevara for President of the ERNC.

Highland Park Neighborhood Council:
The Highland Park Patch has done their civic duty by fostering a mostly positive dialog among the candidates. But some activist are leery of local Soccer Strongman Raul Macias getting elected to the board.

Arroyo Seco Neighborhood Council:
This election boils down to the ASNC preservationists vs. the Hermon breakaway faction led by Joseph Riser (and allegedly supported by Councilman Huizar). Recently, DONE remove the ASNC from "Exhausted Measures" status, after what some are calling a "white-wash investigation" of questionable expenditures by Hermon activist Mark Legassie.

LA-32 Neighborhood Council:
This year's edition of the LA-32 elections features a crowded At-Large candidate bracket that features 13 hopefuls for 5 seats. Some of the candidates include Tammy Membreno, Anthony Manzano, Edward Santillan, Jose Aguilar and Hecho En Mexico Eatery Co-owner Connie Castro.

Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council:
Its CBO get out the vote day as the likes of Inner City Struggle, ELACC, El Centro de Ayudo, Youth Opportunity Movement, Wolfpack Football, Girls Today, Woman Tomorrow and other fledging CBOs, work with the likes of the "Huizzy Girls" (Mago Amador with the Del Pozo ladies) to continue the Banana Republic ways of the BHNC.

Morning Briefs on the Los Angeles Political Machine for Monday

CD 8 City Councilman Bernard Parks.
Great Monday to all as Spring Break 2012 gets underway in the City of Los Angeles.
** CD 8 City Councilman Bernard Parks was a guest on the Live LA Saturday Night Internet Radio Show hosted by Frank Sheftel, David Hernandez and our own Michael "Mayor Sam" Higby. Parks gave an excellent dissertation on his (along with Councilwoman Jan Perry and Koreatown activists) battle against an unjust Redistricting process formulated by City Council President Herb "Mini Amin" Wesson and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Parks gave specific examples how the redistricting process became one big exercise in benefiting a few at the cost to many. You can listen to the podcast by linking here. BTW, we would be remissed if we didn't tell you to listen for Councilman Parks comments on the "journalistic aptitude of nemesis Betty Pleasant.
** City Controller Candidate Cary Brazerman's campaign made its way over the Santa Monica Mountains and found that "name dropping" of certain San Fernando Valley organizations on campaign material, is frowned upon by the locals, especially without their permission.
** The supposed weekly newspaper of record for the eastside community Eastern Group Publications is playing catch up to this daily blog of record, especially on all things CD 14. The nation's largest latino owned newsprint plays catch up with its coverage of the reconstitution of the Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council (ie. coup by Councilman Huizar supporters). We had previously posted a extensive missive on the corruption within the body by former member Manny Aldana, as noted in the EGP story.
El Sereno's Elephant Hill. From a Academia Semillas del Pueblo faculty member.
“Our school is on either side of the restaurant and we want to know how can elected officials support us in obtaining money to move to maybe a better location?”
Charter School and the decades old Hecho En Mexico Restaurant on Huntington Drive in El Sereno. If anyone wanted to know the truth behind the latest drama created by the Marcos Aguilar led educational collective, read the above comments by a faculty member.
....... and BTW, how did Marcos Aguilar (far left holding Huizar sign) get approval for locating his school next to an establish eatery with a liquor license?

Dissertation on Corruption within the Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council

Boyle Heights Connected CBO Shill (formerly mouth piece for the Fifteen Group) and Councilman Jose Huizar crony Margo Amador
Councilman Huizar's "Girls" of the Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council.
Former Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council Vice-President and Presidential Candidate Sal Martinez (center) with Councilman Huizar among others.

** Blogger's Notes: -With the 2011 election of Community Activist Jose Aguilar to the Presidency of the Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council, many activists in the community hoped that their N.C. would once again endeavor on the behalf of the people of the community, not the connected community based organizations that serve the political needs of its Princeton Graduate Councilperson. But scoring a "-3" on Councilman Huizar's Loyalty List did not bid well for President Aguilar and his allies on the BHNC. from day one, Councilman Huizar's cronies such as Margo Amador, the Del Pozo Sisters and their friends in the connected CBO Community, put roads blocks and political obstructions (with the blessing of Councilman Huizar), in the way of governance. Now, former BHNC Member Manny Aldana pens the definitive missive on the corruption within the NC and chronicles the questionable actions that saw President Aguilar and others removed from office. This blogger should note that Aldana was the target of an 100 page complaint by Amador to disqualify him from taking office in 2010, but was dismissed by the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment (DONE). Thus, one can see the extent that Huizar's cronies will go to attack their political enemies--Scott Johnson. .
BOYLE HEIGHTS NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL SCANDAL:
CORRUPTION IN CITY GOVERNMENT

By Manny Aldana

March 5, 2012

LOS ANGELES - The Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council (NC) has been in exhaustive efforts
for almost a year now. Exhaustive efforts gives the indication of the danger of being
decertified. So what leaves us to believe that the current Boyle Heights NC has complied
with all the requirements needed to be removed from exhaustive efforts. Should over a year
of dysfunction, non-compliancy, and lack of ethics be rewarded instead of being held
accountable? Is it appropriate that other NC's have a different standard? It would be an
injustice for the community of Boyle Heights not to know the reality about the scandalous
process that has guided the current Boyle Heights NC. For silence to continue would be a
disservice to Boyle Heights and the City of Los Angeles.(Read the remaining after the jump).

Outtakes from CD 14 Campaign Report: "Endorsements, Forums and the Power of Incumbency"

Lunch time political munchies with video.
Hola from the "Cut and Paste Republic" where endorsements in the La Opinion Newspaper have become an mere exercise in "cut and pasting" CD 14 City Councilman Jose Huizar's Campaign Consultant Parke Skelton talking points and presto! We have a endorsement editorial. Excerpt below.
Huizar’s leadership has had a positive impact on district residents, especially in Boyle Heights and El Sereno. Not as much progress has been apparent in the city’s Northeast part, which is the reason for opponent businessman Rudy Martinez’s campaign. Despite this, we believe Huizar’s administration has been adequate in northeast area's like Eagle Rock, for example, as to merit a second term.
Base upon that, then most would surmise that Councilman Huizar would have no problem espousing this editorial at candidate forums in El Sereno and Boyle Heights. But then "cut and paste talking points" meet with reality as there is no forum schedule in Boyle Heights (** thanks to Huizar's supporters on the Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council who did not want a forum, wonder why?) and some have speculated here whether Huizar shows at the LA 32 Neighborhood Council Forum on Thursday.
More after the bloggin leap.

Community Activist Jose Aguilar installed as Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council President

Executive Board of Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council take Oath of Office from Councilman Jose Huizar.

Community Activist Jose Aguilar takes oath.

New Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council President Jose Aguilar

Longtime community activist, political junkie and friend of Mayor Sam Jose Aguilar, took the Oath of Office, as the new President of the Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council.
Aguilar, who is an veteran of many political battles throughout the City of Los Angeles, beat Mayor Parkervillar and Councilman Jose Huizar ally Sal Martinez, in last springs elections in Boyle Heights.
The likes of City Attorney Carmen Trutanich, Los Angeles Community College Trustee Tina Parks and Phil Jennerjahn, have benefited from Aguilar's tenacious political footwork.
No doubt that Councilman Huizar and his small group of allies on the new BHNC, will have their political agenda, hindered by Aguilar.

Outtakes from CD 14: "CLARTS Fund Transparency Held Hostage, Day 96, The Stonwalling Continues"..... and other CD 14 News.

Hola and happy TGIF from the "Cut and Paste Republic of CD 14", where on any given day, political exploitation is a given, especially near re-election time.

On the subject of political exploitation, CD 14 City Councilman Jose Huizar is a "five-star practitioner" of image crafting. especially if the taxpayers or a certain CLARTS Fund foots the bill.

Lets be serious here, what other council district in Ciudad de Los Angeles has three straight days of Fourth of July festivities, where constituents can celebrate the nation's most sacred day in the shadows of Huizar banners, posters, and signage?

Where else can you hear, see and watch your councilman parade himself in front of the assemble masses, while staffers canvass the audience for any protential political interlopers?

And what council district allocates fireworks resources based upon protential voter turnout and contributions to a re-election campaign? That would be CD 14 and who or what pays for all of this? That is not readily transparent.

For months now, political observers and diligent journalists have sought out the public records how Councilman Huizar funds these commuinity exercises in image crafting. Some have speculated that Councilman Huizar is hording the financial resources of the CLARTS Fund, as some sort of political slush fund, that will be use as a vote buying fund for his re-election campaign in 2011.

The latest to inquire about the CLARTS Fund is Los Angeles Garment and Citizen Editor and Publisher Jerry Sullivan, who devotes column inches to the issue, in his latest edition. And what response did Sullivan's inquiries get from the office of Councilman Huizar? Silence.............

From the Garment and Citizen.

E-mails obtained by the Garment & Citizen indicate that representatives of Huizar acknowledged more than four months ago that documents detailing spending from the CLARTS Fund are public records and subject to public scrutiny—but they have not released them. The e-mails inidcate that an initial acknowledgement came on February 25 in response to a request from Carlos Morales, editor of The Voice. Ana Cubas, who currently serves as Huizar’s chief of staff, said the council office would need 30 days to respond to Morales’ request.

That timeline has come and gone with no disclosure. A more recent request for the records by the Garment & Citizen has drawn no response from Huizar’s office.

As Sullivan notes in his latest "Dat, Dat, Dish Column", this issue regarding the lack of transparency, will surely galvanize the CD 14 activists to support a challenger to replace Councilman Huizar, who will return openness and transparency to CD 14.

4+12+14=3: That might look like some crazy math, but not if you consider the equation from the vantage point of Ron Kaye’s “Clean Sweep” campaign, which is seeking viable candidates to challenge incumbents in the 2011 City Council elections. Word among politicos has the Clean Sweepers zeroing in on three of the seven seats that will be on the ballot early next year, with incumbents Tom Labonge of the 4th District and the 14th District’s Jose Huizar on their radar—and a search ongoing for a horse to back in the open race for the 12th District. Word on the street says the number of Clean Sweep targets could grow, since the City Council’s performance amid hard times appears to have helped take Kaye’s quest from quixotic to quite doable (see related story, “Huizar Won’t Say on CLARTS Fund,”

....... and judging by the interaction between El Sereno and Eagle Rock activists with announced CD 14 Candidate Rudy Martinez at "Huizzy's Fireworks Tour de CD 14" that process is well underway.

OTHER CD 14 NEWS:

** On the "Politics of Fireworks", a few CD 14 activists had the salient observation that Boyle Heights and El Sereno were given the "economy size show" compare to Eagle Rock, who were the benefitories of the political kindness of Councilman Huizar. One person pointed out that the Eagle Rock show was double the length of the El Sereno and Boyle Heights shows.

But we can gladly report that the duck population at Hollenbeck Park, did not endure any tragic deaths compare to last year.

And lastly, our thoughts are with the former CD 14 constituents of Lincoln Heights, who were deprived of fireworks this year at Lincoln Park, due to the inaction of the Action Slate of the Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Council. LHNC Board Members were seen at the El Sereno Show, but according to a very reliable source, a "executive board member" of the LHNC, opined that he rather spend LHNC money on Lincoln High School band uniforms, than an inclusive community fireworks show. Stay tune for future developments on the new LHNC.

** Would someone please forward me the memo where republicans, need not apply for neighborhood councils in CD 14? That is the one of the accusations that has been disclosed in the election challenges to the recent Neighborhood Council Elections in CD14, as reported in the Eastern Group Publications.

Community Activist Manny Aldana was the subject of a hundred page complaint courtesy of Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council Secretary Margarita Amador, that call upon DONE to disqualify him from being re-elected to the BHNC. Maybe this had to do with the fact that Aldana was the "republican challenger to current Assembly Speaker John Perez in 2008. Or maybe it has to do with Aldana being one of the original signers on the Recall Petition of Mayor Antonio Parkervillar? Smells political to me.

Then we have this other grievance from again Boyle Heights, as noted the EGP story.

On another note, last week Yolanda Gonzales, a BHNC founder, filed a grievance alleging that the old board was intentionally holding up the swearing-in of new board members because the new chair is a registered Republican, a complaint Amador called irrelevant. (Note the lack of a denial)

“I think that’s why a lot of people don’t want to be a part of Neighborhood Councils,” Amador said, noting that no background checks are done on candidates. She says anyone, including criminals and people who just want to build their resumes to run for a higher office, can be elected to the council and administer tax dollars. (Note the abundance of spin)

BTW, did Assemblyman Hector De La Torre author a law where convicted felons could not run for public office?

** If you are in a giving mood. that newest "connected non-profit" Legacy LA, is hosting a Casino Night this evening from 8 PM until midnight at the Hazard Park Armory. Via text from "Monique" "Hey!! Legacy is having a Casino night this FRiday, 6/9 from 8PM -midnight. $30/ticket or $50/couple. I'm selling tix, so hit me up! We need ur help!" Wonder if LA Rec. and parks is a willing partner in this endeavor?

Huge Crowd Turns Out For DLANC Vote

News Brief

The Downtown Los Angeles Neigh-borhood Council had an unexpectedly high voter turnout for its election for a new board of directors, officials reported last Friday. Nearly 2,000 people voted, either in person or by mail, in the election held Thursday, June 12. Ballots should be counted by June 17, said DLANC President Russell Brown. This year's election far exceeded expectations for voter and candidate turnout, with 67 people running for the 28 board seats. The balloting began at 2 p.m., and soon after a line wrapped around the block outside of Broadway's Los Angeles Theatre, where voting was taking place. "That's a great number of candidates with a great turnout, so it was quite exciting," said Brown. "There were a lot of people who had never voted before. It says a lot about people wanting to be involved." Terms for board members last two years.
