A political alley cat fight between LA Wave Newspaper Columnist Betty Pleasant (above) and CD 9 City Council Candidate Ana Cubas (below), is not a sight to behold.

Apparently, Ana Cubas has taken her CD 14 non-ethical behavior south of its boundaries into CD 9 as Betty Pleasant reports ..........

What did Ana allegedly do?

One of residents of the 9th City Council District has filed a complaint against Council candidate Ana Cubas with the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission alleging she and her campaign committee committed at least 52 violations of Section 49.7.32 of the Los Angeles Municipal Code, it was learned this week. (or roughly the same amount of times she ignored CLARTS Fund Public Records Requests) 

Who reported this and what rules did the Princeton Graduate allegedly violate?

Martin Jose Santoyo of East 43rd Street filed the lengthy complaint with the commission on May 2 and detailed allegations that Cubas has repeatedly violated the law by failing to post campaign communications to the Ethics Commission’s website, as required.
According to the city’s ethics rules, people who distribute campaign communications to 200 or more recipients must file copies of their communications with the city Ethics Commission within 24 hours of distribution. Santoyo’s complaint contends that Cubas has not done that, and has instead, failed to post six mailers and 31 emails she distributed throughout the district, and that she posted 15 campaign mailers to the ethics website on April 18, “well after the 24-hour posting period set forth in Section 49.7.32,” Santoyo said. (Ana's proclivities for non-disclosure has follow her south in CD 9)

Santoyo provided a list of the mailers Cubas has never posted on the website and attached copies of them to the complaint he filed with the commission. These mailers are 1. “¡Si! Yo votaré por Ana Cubas para Concejal Municipal de Los Angeles,” 2. “Let’s Make History Together/Hagamas Historia Juntos,” 3. “A New Life Starts With Voting/Al Votar Empieza Una Nueva Vida,” 4. “Pure Lies/Puras Mentiras,” and an email dated April 27, entitled “Special Volunteer Day Sunday, April 28.”Santoyo’s complaint also alleges that Cubas and her committee also posted to the Ethics Committee’s website 13 campaign communications on May 1. “Again, based on the dates referenced in these emails (determined either from the date of posting or date of advertised event), it is clear that these communications were also posted by Ms. Cubas and her campaign well after the 24-hour posting deadline set forth by law had lapsed,” Santoyo said.  (Santoyo can teach a thing or two, three, four and on to Ana about openness and transparency)

CD 9 City Council Candidate Ana Cubas reports an abysmal $25,744 in campaign contributions, inhibiting her quest to become the first Latina Female, Princeton Graduate on the Los Angeles City Council.

Ana's fundraising totals are downright ugly.

Great Friday to all as the City Ethics Commission (or the Shallman under-billing enablers) provide us with the first runoff/general election contribution numbers to bloggin munch on. As David Zahniser reports in the "Old Gray Collectivist Hag on Spring Street", Eric Garcetti has a monetary advantage over the "explosive numbers" of Wendy "The Embraced Villar Greuel". Ron Galperin and Mike Feuer maintain slight monetary advantages over their opponents in the race for City Controller and City Attorney, respectively.

But by far, the biggest fundraising crash and burn, is the pending wreckage of the Ana Cubas for CD 9 City Council Campaign. Don"t hold your breath waiting for the first "Latino y Latina Princeton Graduate Duo" to serve at the same time on the City Council come July 1, 2013. That is especially true when you raised only $25,744 dollars, compare to union-back front runner Curren Price's $112,530. Plus, to add salt to the fiscal wound, only one member of the Delijani Clan has donated so far in the runoff.

We ponder with all this money in CD 14 Councilman Huizar's Campaign Slush, whoops, Community Amenities Fund, whether the Princeton Grad, could create a quick consulting contract and somehow funnel needed campaign cash to his former staffer fundraising coffers. Further, we understand that Candidate Cubas has garnered some unwanted attention, regarding her past enabling of screening the true amount in this account from the discerning CD 14 masses. Thus, we want to join with the current CD 9 political interloper, in preventing her new neighbors from receiving the below in the future.

Another Soulvine Thursday: "Race-baiting in the Ninth"

Longtime LA Wave Newspaper Columnist Betty Pleasant takes exception to the racially-tinged campaign antics of former CD 14 Chief of Staff and current CD 9 Carpetbag Candidate Ana Cubas

How lower can the Carpetbagging Campaign of Ana Cubas go, when its already in the racial gutter?

** Blogger's note: Its a gloomy Thursday and thus, the appropriate, bloggin time to check back in on the Soulvine Missives of longtime South-Central LA Political Observer Betty Pleasant. Jan Perry and Bernard Parks can rest assure that Betty's keyboard will not direct any frying pan missives in their direction this week as she directs her ire towards a CD 14 carpetbagger, coming in search of her own political riches. As usual, we post Betty's musings with our comments in bold and within the ( )---Scott Johnson.

Despite pre-primary election cries from the community for 9th District City Council candidates to stop their race-baiting campaign tactics to prevail at the ballot box, the pre-runoff election activity in that regard has gotten worse and the voters are hopping mad, as what was once subtle is now in-your-face blatant. (coming from the face of Ana, that is downright scary)

Kokayi Kwa Jitahidi, indefatigable leader of the Ma’at Institute for Community Change — the largest and most effective grassroots organization in South Los Angeles — organized the South Los Angeles Power Coalition and convened a series of candidate forums this year at which aspirants to the 9th District City Council seat were to relate their appraisal of the problems confronting their would-be constituents, the methods they have in mind to solve them and the experience they have in doing so. More than 300 people at a time flocked to these forums in the belief that they would hear candidates speak to the issues that effect their lives, thus enabling them to cast votes that would positively impact the vast 9th District. (only issue for Ana is seizing power in a now, impoverish CD 9 of her enabling creation).

Did the people get this information? A little bit, but nearly as much as seven candidates could have provided. What did they get then and what are they getting now? Ana Cubas, a candidate out of East Los Angeles who is embarked on a race-baiting campaign on steroids which has been hyped up by stupid sex-baiting on her part. (sex-baiting and drinking don't mix) Cubas, who is facing a runoff with state Sen. Curren Price for the 9th District seat, has been and continues to tell residents to “vote for me because I’m from El Salvador and because I am a woman.” (you forgot in the fine Huizar tradition, to state that you went to Princeton damn it!) She is so firm in her feminine qualifications (the smell, at times, reinforces that premise) that she is reported on the USC newsite, thus: “If elected, I’ll establish a women’s caucus within the council even if I’m the only one on that caucus. And when I’m termed out … I will not endorse a man (but remain interested in them, as noted on your Facebook Page). I don’t care how good he is (Jose might get offended)...” Really? (** We can agree with Betty once every CD 9 election cycle)

Cubas stresses her irrelevant El Salvadoran birthplace at every opportunity, but ignores the fact that she grew up in Santa Monica and lives in the tony Solano Canyon village in the Mount Washington area of Northeast L.A.(actually near Dodger Stadium, but we digress) She was chief of staff to 14th District Councilman Jose Huizar (transparency and openness were foreign concepts during her reign), who is pushing her to represent the 9th District, an area she knows nothing about and had never even been in until she decided to put her female El Salvadoran-born self on the City Council simply because she’s an Hispanic woman (this after helping to reshape CD-9 during the litigious Redistricting process).

Not only that, but South L.A. activists tell me Cubas has become so reprehensible in her tactics that she now speaks untranslated Spanish at candidates’ meetings (she is also proficient in long-winded gibberish during NC meetings). I’m told that she delivers lengthy passages in Spanish that go untranslated, thus enraging her overwhelmingly English-speaking audience which feels she is talking only to Hispanics and therefore is telling them something she does not want English speakers to know (Its Ana's time in English damn it!).

Kokayi, who is mortified by Cubas’ tactics, said there are tensions between some African-Americans and Latinos in South L.A., “but we also recognize that African-American and Latino residents in CD 9 are not waging a full-scale war with one another. As the polling suggests, the majority of voters on the eastside of South L.A. are likely to reject that type of divisive campaigning.” Yet, Cubas’ failure to address the issues (like CLARTS misappropiations) and her reliance on untranslated Spanish speeches do give Kokayi pause. (Not to mention her (stinkin) female chauvinism and her constant trumpeting of her birthplace.).

The "Real Price" behind an Union Label in CD 9

Apparently Ana Cubas is not the only candidate to benefit from WalMart's political largess, in the CD 9 City Council Campaign (** Notice that Senator Price and the "Shady Buzz Dot", share the same eye brow DNA). 

Attention CD 9 Union Voters!

Just in time for your Election Day consideration, we bring you this bloggin elaboration on an earlier Mayor Sam missive behind the "true (Senator) Price" of the CD 9 Labor Candidate's connection to WalMart.

We realize that past campaign contributions from WalMart to Senator Price have been documented. But the question here, especially for the LA County Labor Fed endorsed candidate to replace Jan Perry, is whether Senator Price respected his union brothers and sisters supporters, by returning WalMart money.

According to a source.

Public records show that he has accepted nearly $10k from Walmart with no record of having returned any. There’s no plausible deniability here because he was his own treasurer in 2012, having taken money in June. This was right after the mayoral candidates pledged to not take Walmart money.

The Villar Greuel can rest assure that out-going Mayor Antonio Villar, will not comment on her actions as the third term incarnation of the Villar Political Machine (if elected).

With no apologies to former Vice-President Al “Jazeera” Gore, happy Global Warming morning from the frost-covered grasslands of CD 14. For the record, the National Weather Service LA/ Oxnard Office reports that the temperature dropped to 34 degrees at its official Downtown LA weather station, on the campus of the “University of Scandalous Conduct”. Of course, one can make a case that chilly, is the right description regarding USC’s community relations around its Health Sciences Campus, but I digress.

** Mayoral Candidate City Controller Wendy “The Villar Greuel” can rest assure that out-going Mayor Antonio Villar will remain silent (for media attribution) on how she executes the third term goals of the City Terrace native, if elected. As Daily News City Hall Beat Writer Rick Orlov reports in his “Monday Tipoff Column”, Mayor Villar’s political sensitivities will be confined to defending his own actions and not critiquing the next mayor (** especially if the Villar Greuel is elected).

Reform the BudgetImprove our transportation and city infrastructure, such as streets, sidewalks, and parksJobs and economic development, including investment in urban areas

We ask this simple question, how can we trust Ana Cubas to reform a budget when the video below showcases her lack of knowledge of the status of discretionary budgets that she helped oversee in her former job? (** or was that just spin to confuse an inquiring group on constituents?)

Did SEIU 99 insiders rig the LA County Labor Federation CD 9 Endorsement for State Senator Curren Price, over former CD 14 Chief of Staff Ana Cubas?

SEIU 99's Endorsement Gift to union ally Ana Cubas?

This is not the way to treat a sister.

But when the sister is former CD 14 Chief of Staff turned CD 9 City Council Candidate Ana Cubas, we dare say, Karma is a B....!

Consider this from a myopic Cubas union supporter.

Sternburger is reporting SEIU Local 99 members were recruited to attend the recent town hall endorsements who would tend to vote for the candidates the union wanted to endorse,the email from sternburger has been included below with additional highlighting.This would explain how the members choice Ana Cubas was not the endorsed winner, and members coaxed by executive board members and organizers in all the locals pushed hard for Curren Price the obvious push came when the members of Local 99 before announcing their choice walked out of the general meeting and did not participate, preventing an endorsement for Cubas. We have been told that their choice clearly was Ana Cubas the experienced former Chief of Staff for our friend Jose Huizar the honorable councilman from the 14th district. However they could not make that vote and were told they had to play politics and not cast that vote.

...... and judging from the email, Ana was the recipient of an endorsement lump of coal. So sad that Ana's quest for status will end in March (HaHa!!)

Curren Price: The Wal-Mart Candidate?

It used to be the way you slammed someone in politics was to call them a communist or perhaps, socialist.

Today, however, there's a new pejorative that's tossed around: Wal-Mart supporter.

That may be one that opponents of State Senator Curren Price are throwing at the elected official, the latest former elected official from another City, currently serving the in the California State Legislature, eyeing the big prize of California politics, a seat on the Los Angeles City Clowncil.

Price is one of several seeking to replace Jan Curry as she leaves the Council hoping to be elected Mayor.

Apparently someone connected to someone who doesn't want to see Price elected to the Council has begun a campaign to note that Price has received several thousand dollars in campaign contributions from the controversial Arkansas based retailer.

And I remember when it was bad if a politician went to a strip club.

What Costume will Ana Cubas pick for Halloween Fundraiser?

What will be the costume of choice for CD 9 City Council Candidate Ana Cubas as she seeks some campaign tricks and treats this evening?.

 As former CD 14 Chief of Staff and current CD 9 City Council Candidate Ana Cubas prepares for tonight's Halloween -theme Fundraiser, we like to convey our choice of costume for the female Princeton Graduate. Thus, we introduce "WalMart Ana"!  

Considering that Ana and our WalMart friend above, already share the eye brows and politically shady persona, all that is left is the yellow make up and some WalMart contributions for party supplies. We should note that Cubas has taken WalMart money in the past.

On the subject of shady persona, we ask Deputy District Attorney Mario Trujillo, how he could serve as a co-host considering that Candidate Cubas in her former job as CD 14 Chief of Staff, knowingly violated the California Public Records Act, by failing to respond to a request for information pertaining to the status of the CLARTS Fund.
