City Hall's Past Abuses, Censorship, Lack Of Leadership Are Centerstage During Current Crisis

By Daniel Guss

@TheGussReport - Anyone who has ever been censored by an abusive politician at LA City Hall, or anywhere else really, is loving its City Council meetings these days.

Suddenly, the same politicians who dropped the ball in the immediate moments after the Nury Martinez - Gil Cedillo - Kevin de Leon racism scandal that erupted two weeks ago have suddenly been rendered impotent by boisterous groups, including The People's City Council.

Of course, there's more to the story than just that.

Including this bizarre tweet from the LA Times' David Zahniser.

A Mid-day Note on the Los Angeles Political Machine's "Fishwrap of Choice" for Monday

As Los Angeles County Absentee Ballots arrive at the homes of Register Voters, we bloggin endeavor to provide our cyber audience with objective, factually-based Elections-related missives, contrary to the censoring, Democratic Establishment, Propaganda Newsprint/Kitty Box Liner Producer on Spring Street (ie. The LA Times).
LA County Mail In Ballots coming to a Home (and local Cemetery, allegedly) near you.
The Aftermath of Imploding Journalistic Integrity on Spring Street.
** Blogger's Note: Great late morning to all as an early Fall rain shower gives way to MAN-caused soothing sunshine.
Bluntly, there is so much local political chisme to keyboard upon ........., and unlike the supposed Newsprint/Kitty Box Liner of Record on Spring Street, we don't CENSOR links to stories that inform the electorate on the TRUTH,
We bloggin love meshing humor, mixed with our healthy sardonic, cynical musings on the actions undertaken by those affiliated in any way with the local One Party-dominating Political Establishment, as exampled by "Lil Mikey Gatto" and a DOCUMENTED, certain "Subject of Interest" in a 2005 Pasadena Sexual Assault Case.
That stated, we are becoming increasingly humorless ......, and alarmed, regarding the growing censorship/agenda- based reporting taking place within the once-sacred catacombs of supposed (and constitutionally-protected) objective journalism ........... especially on Spring Street.
Once a Republican and anti-Labor Fishwrap in the early Twentieth Century (that was bombed in 1910 by fanantic unionists, as shown in the photo above), the Twenty-first Century incarnation of the once Chandler Family-owned publication, has journalistic devolved into a circulation-reducing West Coast "Old Gray Hag" emulator of the "Old Gray Lady (aka. New York Times)", in espousing the Democrat Party Establishment's latest factually-devoided Talking Points.
Yet unlike New York, which still has a journalistic-healthy diversity of newspapers, the average, discerning Los Angeles resident has suffered from a lack of choice, especially with the lost of the Hearst Family-owned Los Angeles Herald-Examiner in 1989, with the LA Daily News under Ron Kaye's Editorial Direction, becoming the counter-balance, Newspaper of Record, in challenging the local Political Machine.
Sadly, with Kaye's retirement, Los Angeles lost a leading figure in espousing for a discerning, challenging, truth-driven and INDEPENDENT journalistic entity that placed objective reporting before political preference, in documenting nefarious, ethical-challenging actions within local entities.
Instead, as witness with the recent online and printed products originating from Spring Street, supposed journalism has now become mere regurgitation of Democratic Establishment Spin, with high-octane, anti-Donald Trump rantings, ceaseless column inches devoted to alleged, Bad Cops, scientifically-questionable missives regarding MAN-caused Climate Change ..........., while being devoid of coverage on the scandalous Emails, that expose the corruption via Democratic Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton.
Objectively, we should state that we have shared story tips with certain LA Times Scribes who still practice the basic tenants of "Who, What, Where, When, How and Why Journalism" taught in college J-1 Classes, in the recent past.
But as evident in the 2016 Presidential Elections, many supposed Newspapers of Record, have taking a "bulldozer of subjectivity" and demolished the walls separating the alleged, objective newsrooms and the subjective Editorial Boards ..........., with the net result being the pending Death of Journalism, with adverse connotations for informed, Free Elections.
Your thoughts .................

Larry Elder on City Council Selective Censorship

The LA City Clowncil solved all of LA's problems and found a little extra time on their hand - so they decided to vote to ban Rush Limbaugh and KFI's John and Ken.

KABC host Larry Elder Facebook'ed up the following observations:

Hey, LA City Council, what about 'hate speech" on Spanish language radio? I hear that it's FAR more course and vulgar than local English language talk.

The normally reasonable--for a dem-- L.A. Councilman Dennis Zine, voted to condemn local talk radio. Nada about Maher, Garofolo, Moore, etc. C'mon, Zine!

LA City Council passes resolution condemning demeaning talk radio--gave examples, but Maher's use of the "c' word for Palin did not make the cut.

Panera Bread Censors the LA Weekly

Our good friend Patrick Range McDonald from the LA Weekly sent me a link to a recent story he wrote on Mayor Villaraigosa's gun buyback program but as I sit here at Panera Bread, following a business meeting, I see that Panera has an objection to the LA Weekly:

From the OC: Red County Blog banning readers for being pro-Pedroza!

ACTION ALERT: Stamp Out Censorship

Remember, Red Yellow County is owned by Partisan Media Group, LLC.

Wow! It's finally happened. I, Sarah Michelle Spinosa, have been banned from both of the other big OC blogs.

What is it that they're so afraid of that they would gang up on our good friend and Council candidate Art Pedroza with a lame mailer that actually promotes this blog above all, and then censor those who defend him. From what I understand, Matt 'Jubal' Cunningham, editor of OC Blog, is notorious for his thin-skined, 'journalistic terroristic' ways, banning those who disagree with him.

I understand that the 1st Amendment doesn't have a lot of influence over the actions of partisans, but to put out that mailer to help settle a personal vendetta and then be upset to the point of censorship without hesitation when someone questions you on it is just plain weakness. I didn't make an allegation, I merely stated that I doubted Jubal's sincerity and described a hypothetical situation which in legal circles is called 'emphasizing reasonable doubt.'

Why did he overreact? After years of playing 'Tom and Jerry,' Matt (Tom) has finally found a way to get Art (Jerry). I mean, really get him, in the really real world, not on the blogosphere. He took the opportunity, and that's fine. As I've said repeatedly, he's done us a terrific service, bringing more readers to our already #1 political blog, but now I'd like to bring a few to his.

Click here and tell Jubal that we're not going to take it, that smear campaigns only work against those who are full of BS, and that he can no longer claim to be a proponent of free speech until he can practice what he preaches.

What is Matt hiding?

Michelle Bachmann Should Resign

Losing her spot on the Mayor Sam list of Republican hotties Representative Michelle Bachmann of Michigan had a bizarre moment calling for "investigations" of the patriotism of various individuals.

We've been fighting the new thought police of the Obamaites, we don't need it on the Republican side as well. With an Obama supporter in Missouri suing John McCain for "hate speech" and law enforcement officers being advised to monitor campaign materials for critical comments about Obama the last things some Republicans should be doing is calling for a return to McCarthyism.

A Funny Video and Some Censorship

By the way, unless you hunt around the internet and are lucky enough to find a copy before it's pulled, you can't see a very funny SNL skit that was critical of both President Bush and Congressional Democrats as well as billionaire liberal George Soros. NBC has pulled this video but yet has allowed SNL skits that make fun of John McCain and Sarah Palin to remain.

It's not at all the first time SNL has been censored, the video below, a parody of children's TV feature, Schoolhouse Rock, which was critical of NBC's corporate parent, GE, amongst other large corporations, was also allegedly banned by the Peacock Network.

Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Friday

The most noteworthy event of his career for Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is that he's going to be immortalized in wax by the legendary Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum.  Other than that, an LA Weekly piece by Patrick Range McDonald paints a dim picture of the Mayoralty under Villaraigosa, that of a Mayor consumed by photo ops, press events and ego stroking, without a single accomplishment (including that the one achievement the Mayor does tout may have been fudged) under his belt.  Other than the grass roots candidacy of Walter Moore, no one has yet sought to challenge the Mayor, who has perhaps left the City so broken no one wants it.

Though the majority of Republicans appear to support the effort to deny rights to same-sex couples, Proposition 8, there is a growing GOP effort to oppose the measure.  At the same time local Republicans are criticizing the leadership of the County GOP organization for sponsoring an event against marriage choice at a time when the party's focus should be on electing Republicans to local office.  We've said it before, but booting County Party Chair Linda Boyd is long overdue.

Evidently we've put an end to crime in Los Angeles, we've filled all the potholes, we've brought lots and lots of high paying jobs to the city and we've balanced the budget.  Because besides banning plastic bags and fast food in Los Angeles, the City Council took to that veritable scourge of society, banning smoking at outdoor farmers markets.

If you live in one of  LA's tony hillside or canyon areas, you better not be voting for John McCain or more importantly, don't put up a sign supporting the Republican Presidential candidate.  Not only will local liberals deface your sign, the City will tell you to take it down - despite Supreme Court rulings that say a City cannot prohibit political speech on private property.

I didn't catch this earlier, but when John McCain announced Sarah Palin as his pick for his running mate, his daughter, blogger Meghan McCain blogged the event with lots of behind the scenes photos of the announcement event.

Liberals Want to Outlaw Conservative Talk

Well sort of.

Unable to achieve success in talkradio via the free market, liberals now plan to use government intervention to achieve their goals of more "liberal voices" on the air. Senators Hillary Clinton and Barbara Boxer want to bring back the so-called "fairness doctrine" and other regulations to "balance" programming. Its not just the liberals who are after talkradio but Republicans such as Trent Lott upset that their "free ride" on many conservative programs is over.

As reported by The National Review, longtime Clinton crony John Podesta has authored a treatise on what has to be done about the "problem" of conservative talkradio.

What's next? Are they going to outlaw blogs?

See the problem for you liberals is you might be able to try to outlaw the speech you don't like. However, the dangerous precedent you set will eventually come back to harm you when your opponents are in charge.

If it were up to some of the members of the City Council and the Mayor, laws might be passed that would impose government control on radio programs such as that of Doug McIntyre (pictured above) or blogs like this.

And even if the liberals get their laws, its likely they won't have the intended goals. Should stations be able to air unfettered and wildly profitable conservative talkradio programs, they will drop the format and political coverage altogether in favor of talk programming similar to Howard Stern or Tom Leykis or even other formats such as sports, music or foreign language broadcasts. And even if the government mandates certain types of programming be covered (such as they once did with community affairs programming) the broadcasters will find ways around those rules, such as airing the programs at 7:00 a.m. on a Sunday (as many still do voluntarily).

The best bet is to let everyone express their views and then let them be judged in the marketplace of ideas. But do liberals get that? I imagine some do but their numbers are shrinking everyday.
