Los Angeles Building and Safety General Manager Suspected in Sexual Assualt
Exclusive from KFI's Eric Leonard.
The General Manager of the L.A. City Department of Building and Safety is the prime suspect in the July 10 rape of an unconscious woman in Downtown, KFI NEWS has learned.
According to senior LAPD sources and court documents, the victim told detectives she'd gone out drinking with friends and blacked-out after sharing a beer with Adelman while watching an outdoor concert.
The victim said when she woke up she was being attacked by Adelman on his bed.
She told police the attack lasted several hours, and Adelman eventually drove her back to her car.
A command-level source at LAPD confirms the investigation is ongoing, but no charges have been filed and Adelman has not been arrested.
Adelman did not accept a call for comment at his office this afternoon.-- Eric Leonard

"It's unfortunate that ... an investigation has been made public before any determination of the validity of the allegations have been made," he told The Times.(Geragos ?? Holy S...!! for Adelman)

So... how big a pension will he get when he "retires"?

Petra-I was going to ask the same question.
If found guilty and this man gets any pension, we must protest.

Mark Geragos!?!?!? Stop it! You're killin' me!

Villaraigosa will write a Letter of Recommendation calling him a great kid and a good boy.

Now how long have I been saying that Building & Safety has problems from the top down?
Anonymous said:
Joe B. -- What does this alleged rape have to do with the functional issues at Building & Safety? They're both reprehensible, but it's a real stretch to say they're somehow connected. And you know that.

Yelling rape and proving it are two distinct things.
Proving it is very,m very difficult, especially if she disabled herself with drinking too much.
I'm withholding judgment until I know more.

I don't believe that there is anything in the law that allows the city to withhold retirement benefits from anyone found guilty of a crime. The time to complaint about this is now, not after this case is resolved.
Also, if he retires before a verdict or a plea is entered, he gets his pension regardless.

Saying she was assaulted for several hours sounds strange.

Adelman is a pig and has been degrading women for a long time. Just ask all his Executive Assistants. There is a history of degradation from him that has been covered up for many years. His current assistant is a male and he's the only one Adelman wants because women aren't good enough. I can understand how this rape could have occurred. He has no respect for women and has gotten away with this unjust behavior for way to long. He should be FIRED!

My advice to the victim: Go to rehab and never pick up another drink! If you ever thought you might have a drinking problem, now's a good time to take a stand and get clean so you don't end up saying "yes" when you mean "no."
My advice to Adelman: You are a serious player with you hand caught in the cookie jar. The game is over and you're learning this the hard way (no pun intended). Inserting foreign objects into people without their consent is a serious crime. Bon voyage!
My advice to the mayor: Fire him! What the hell are you waiting for? What?! Like he's going to prove his innocence and the people would want a guy with "spare sex toys" for special guests getting paid with the taxpayers dime? Hello?

I'm a woman who has been working with Andrew Adelman for a long time. I find this incredibly hard to believe. I'm not buying it.

Villaraigosa, This manager seems to be in the news a lot over the last several years. Apparently he has a difficult working with people, and would just rather just screw them over, and over. Has anyone figured out how much he has cost the city to defend him and his behavior. It is clear he NOT the type of I would want to represent the city or would want to work with. He has got to go now! Please make arrangements so he loses his pension too. I would hate to think my tax dollars are supporting a person like him.

This guy hasn't even been proven guilty. It's a scary thought that you can be crucified just becuase someone accuses you of something.

Anyone actually buy that the last half of the comments here are from more than one person? Or better yet, Parque and friends?
Stop talking to yourself. It's really stupid.

Foxy Lady is an idiot. First she advises the lady to get rehab for a drinking problem so she won't say "yes" when she means "no", nevermind that the victim said her drink was drugged and she blacked out. Then in the next sentence Foxy Lady says the guy did it without consent. Huh???

10:00 comments, perhaps he could not perform like the rest of the dept, after all they are there just for the pension.

I am not surprised that this has happened. I worked for Building and Safety for many years and finally had to leave. Mr. Adelman was rude to me but this is the way he is with all females. So many people complained about him and actually sued Mr. Adelman and the City. Many, many problems with this man.

I was not surprised to hear about Mr. Adelman. I worked for Building and Safety for many years. He was rude to me but this is the way he talks to all females. I got tired of all the problems Building and Safety had with this General Manager. City employees had sued Mr. Adelman and the City of Los Angeles. Building and Safety needs a new General Manager, someone who is fair.

Eight years ago I went in front of him in his official capacity. I couldn't believe how dishonest he was. I lost respect for the entire City and the Department. During a hearing, he was looking at me making kissing, sucking motions, while his department was pulling off a big developer originated scam. He turned my stomach. I hope his lawyer gives him the Scott Peterson treatment.

6:24am - Get a grip! Read the warrant before you call someone an idiot. After you do, I'm sure you'll find the idiot within the text as well as in yourself for your ignorant comments!

6:24 here.
Foxy Lady let us review what you said. To the victim. Quote:
"now's a good time to take a stand and get clean so you don't end up saying "yes" when you mean "no.""
(Maybe I'm missing something but it sure sounds like you're implying the lady drank to much and consented.)
Next sentence. To Alderman. Quote:
"Inserting foreign objects into people without their consent is a serious crime. Bon voyage!"
Huh??? Total scatterbrain, and in addition you sound like one of those religious wingnuts who say women deserve to be attacked if they go out for a drink.

What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt?
What about consent?
WE are a long way from a conviction here.
What did you find in the search?

I don't believe a word of it. I just posted that on the Hotsheet thread and I think it's pure baloney...or is that bologna?

I used to work with this person, he is extremely rude to everyone, especially women. He is very, very degrading to them. If not to their face, certainly behind their back. I am not surprised. In fact the only thing that has always surprised me is how he has managed to keep his job this long. For the benefit of the City and the Department of Building and Safety he should be replaced with a fair open personality after all he is responsible for managing people of all genders in his dept.
For the sake of the City and his dept. his days as manager are over.

I know this person too. He is brilliant and can be very charming. He has the best bullshit detector I have ever seen. No one gets to the top without making enemies. His impulsive nature finally got him in big trouble. The mayor was just looking for an excuse to get rid of him - never liked Andrew b/c frankly Andrew is a lot smarter and more competent. Andrew used VERY bad judgment, but the mayor did too by jumping the gun. If Andrew is cleared/never charged, I hope he sues the City & the mayor for every penny he can get.

More bad news for Huizar, it has just come to my attention that it was one of Huizar's staff that organized the pub crawl. Apprently there have been complaints in the past about the GM's behavior but yet the Huizar staffer chose to keep inviting him.
With Huizar known for not having a backbone one has to wonder how much longer before he let's this staff member go?

I wonder about Jan Perry and her personal agenda ... and not to mention her forceful behavior to bend the law through the accused GM - read this article for yourself and go figure it:

"L.A. City Council Member Seeks to Force Building Department to Issue Permit For Large Electronic Sign Adjacent to Freeway - May 29, 2009"

These "Pub Crawls" are a City Hall favorite and Huizar staffer organized them long before she joined his office. Look at his choice for his newest COS, you really think he cares how much his staffers drink and party in public or who gets hurts?! Hell, he attacks his young female staff publicly and then mysteriously gets rid of the girl- on the grounds of what? that she must have Made him assault her? HA- You really think he's gonna give two cents about this issue?
Anonymous said:
How about the woman making the complaint? Anyone kow her? Who does she work for?
If LADBS, it is bad for Andrew, but if not, I think he may skate on this one.
Like one guy said a long time ago, where do I go to get back my reputation???

How about Jan Perry and her plan for pluding the city by putting up four additional illegal billboards ... and suddently LADBS GM is a rapist - gi'me a break.
"Critics have pooh-poohed that defense, noting that the City Council readily agreed recently to such “special findings” so it could approve City Councilwoman Jan Perry’s plan to allow four previously illegal 76-foot-tall, monster-size billboards next to the 10 freeway, where thousands of motorists are forced to view them.
Critics also point to the failure of the Hollywood Supplemental Sign District, where new supergraphics were to be allowed along Hollywood, Santa Monica and Sunset boulevards only if an even larger number of old billboards were removed. Instead, the companies openly ignored the rules, and illegal signs have exploded in number. Woo terms it a “fiasco.”

Adelman has caused havoc from day 1 of taking over management of LADBS. He's changed the way things are done. Building and Safety no longer regulates the safety of the City but facilitate the desires of the rich. For years people have been getting suspect permits that would have never been issued before Adelman. Laura Chick didn't dig deep enough. There is so much scandal in that department and so many more people are involved. Adelman started out as a bully and not much has changed. He has caused the City lots of money in lawsuits. He's not above becoming physical with someone. Should try talking to a few key past employees.

It was not long ago when people like you burned others in the village squares and hung those who did not like from trees. It seems to me that you guys are thirsty for this kind of news, so you can let yourself go. Please be more human and civilized. Adelman may be guilty, but he needs to have the same due process as any other person.
