This is the city: Los Angeles, California. I work here. I'm an ex-mayor. Los Angeles is a magnet for people from all over the world. Some of them run for public office. Inevitably some of them stray from the golden rule and rule for those that have the gold. That's when I go to work. My name is Yorty. I'm a dead pol.

In Studio City, Rick McNally, a 66-year-old Vietnam War veteran, said he chose Brad Sherman in the hotly contested race for the 30th Congressional District. The Studio City resident, who lives in Sherman's old district, said he picked the familiar face and the candidate he says has more Valley ties."He is more hands-on here in the Valley," McNally said, shortly after voting at a polling place along Ventura Boulevard in Studio City. "He has more town hall meetings. He is more accessible."

Three cars were involved in a minor traffic accident that City Councilman Jose Huizar was in before he was given a DUI sobriety test that he passed, a spokesman said."I can confirm that three cars were involved and the Councilmember was given a breathalyzer test, which registered a zero," Huizar spokesman Rick Coca said in a statement Thursday night after the accident. The accident was reported about 7 p.m. on East 1st Street near the 101 Freeway in Boyle Heights, the Los Angeles Police Department said. One person at the scene complained of injuries and was examined by paramedics but not taken to a hospital, police said.Police described Huizar as cooperative as he was being tested. He was released afterward. At the scene, Huizar's Toyota Highlander was parked behind a General Motors Saturn, which had major damage on the trunk. The accident was being investigated by Central Traffic Division detectives.Huizar, 44, was elected to the City Council in 2005 with the support of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. He lives in Boyle Heights. His 14th District stretches from downtown to Eagle Rock.

Two days later, my little blog was picked up by one of LA’s top political blogs,Mayor Sam’s Sister City. Under the headline “A Call to Investigate the

Last week, in response to a letter submitted by this blogger, the Public Integrity Division of the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office confirmed it had opened a case file to investigate candidate Jimmy Gomez regarding possible violations of the California Election Code’s voter residency requirements.According to his declaration of candidacy, Mr. Gomez has been registered to vote in Los Angeles County since 2006 (having been previously registered in Riverside County whence he comes).Campaign disclosure statements filed by various federal, state and local campaign committees indicate that Mr. Gomez continued to reside in Riverside County long after he re-registered to vote in Los Angeles County. These reports (attached above) disclose contributions those campaigns received from Mr. Gomez in July 2008, February 2009, February 2010, August 2010 and November 2010. Each of these disclose that his residence was in Riverside County at the time he made the contributions, not Los Angeles County as he declared in his declaration of candidacy.
Mark Gonzalez,Also, while Choi is a resident and as far as I can tell not affiliated with Lopez except as a supporter based on his earlier blog post which makes that clear and why he supports Lopez, you should have made clear that you are part of the Democratic Establishment backing Jimmy Gomez - in past Patch articles alone you are described as a Field Deputy for Assembly Member Anthony Portantino, a Senior Field Rep for CA Assembly President John Perez and one quick google search landed me on the Northeast Democratic Club (who endorsed Gomez) website which lists "Mark Gonzalez" as the Vice President there, is that you? In the interest of fairness shouldn't you have made clear that you are part of the machine instead of (mis)representing yourself as just an Eagle Rocker? Your profile shows you are a first time commenter and new to the Patch which tells me and others like me that you have shown little interest in this community and our issues. Come on, be honest and be fair. Let us voters decide this with facts and not adjectives.
51st AD Candidate (via Riverside) Jimmy "PACman Laundryman"? Gomez
Some of Gomez's money, and many of his endorsements, come from elected officials who have received cash from UNAC. Among those who have received UNAC money and then endorsed Gomez are Assemblywoman Holly Mitchell, Assemblyman Ricardo Lara, Assemblyman Bob Blumenfield, Congresswoman Janice Hahn, and Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones.
Several candidates for the L.A. Community College District board have received money from UNAC and contributed to Gomez, including Miguel Santiago, Steve Veres and Scott Svonkin.
In early May, UNAC gave $20,000 to the L.A. County Democratic Party. Later that month, the party sent out a mailer, worth about $15,000, urging support for Gomez. Eric Bauman, the chair of the L.A. County Democratic Party, said there was no connection between the two.
"We don't play that way," Bauman said. "We would do stuff for Jimmy whether UNAC gave us money or didn't give us money."
