Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Friday

Explosive charges from Zuma Dogg that longtime political operative Ace Smith is allegedly "posting FAKE posts on other blogs in an attempt to rowl some people up against one of the other City Attorney candidates."  Smith, who has helmed campaigns for Antonio Villaraigosa and many others heads up the effort to get City Council Member Jack Weiss elected City Attorney. Zuma also alludes to accusations against Weiss that he allegedly may have deeper than previously reported involvment in controversial billboard permits.

Speaking of billboards, the anti-sign nuts are all up in arms that the City and property owners want to have a certain number of super-sized, media related billboards in the entertainment district of Hollywood.  If laws were not followed and permits issued improperly that's one thing.  But I don't see an issue with giant entertainment related billboards on Hollywood or Sunset Boulevards similar to Times Square, Tokyo, European cities, etc.

Councilman Tom LeBong, fresh from making maps, still thinks he owns Griffith Park.  Cyclists are up in arms that he has banned them from riding in existing bike lanes in the park for the DWP's annual "Festival of Lights."  By the way, the festival is great, but why the hell is the DWP paying for it? Let private industry do it.

Tim Rutten writing in the LA Times does an excellent analysis of the political shadiness behind the Mayor's solar initiative.  It's yet another way for City unions to grab more taxpayer money and political power while at the same time giving the Mayor something to run.  Though most voters will react emotionally and think that solar power sounds like a wonderful deal it's unlikely they will comprehend that this measure will raise electric rates let alone the fraud behind it.

After all, with the "ZELL MAN" at the helm of the "MOBILE TRAILER TRIBUNE", the pressure to produce quality news print is on the level with the quality of pole dancers on the roof(Roderick can be your "DOORMAN" to the roof, just a thought).

So you are in a funk over the fact that our esteem Mayor does not have the mental fortitude to focus on a "ONE ON ONE" with you.

You offer to walk with him around Skid Row to discuss the current state of affairs in the bowels of "EASTERN DOWNTOWN", nada?

Want to critique Mirthala on her new show at " MIGHTY RADIOBIMBO 690 AM"?, no go?

You want to ask the Mayor to respond to the Council's numbers cruncher who panned his budget proposals, no way??

Steve, I and the others who are in the decreasing ranks of daily readers of actual newsprint, love your style. Whether it is the "Esteem Cardinal" or "C.A. Rocktard", you "T.J." and Steve Harvey's "The Bottom Ten" are the only reasons I continue this daily ritual of reading the newsprint in hand.

But as a point of reference, when you piss off the "POLITICO FORMERLY KNOWN AS MAYOR ANTONIO VILLARAIGOSA, tony villar, with what Tim Rutten wrote,

Perhaps the mayor simply hoped to demonstrate that he really is a "friend
to the department." After all, the ongoing reduction in crime in L.A. is one of
the few unambiguous achievements of a mayoral administration that seems to
generate more unfinished initiatives than an ADD clinic.

......and the Mayor (ADV®) responds with this,

"a cheap shot at people who have ADD" and added, "I think he knows my son
has attention deficit disorder."(M.O. of Mayor to hide behind family member when the "s..." gets deep).

...then rest assure, you (great find on Mirthala's radio show quote), Rutten and your "FISHWRAP OF RECORD" are in the "CASA DE PERRO". Maybe Helfand can plead your case, he is the Mayor's favorite P.R. writer.

In closing, with the endorsement of Obama, Rutten's missive on Mayor, and with the dishing of scribe Lopez, we announce the retirement of the moniker "LA ANTONIA TIMES"...........that is until the next mayoral election in 2009.

Memo to Tim Rutten: "RIGHT ON!!"...for once

Former Los Angeles Times media writer Tim Rutten who nows opines from the "left" on the Op-ed pages, nails Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa today, and this one is going to hurt.

In brief, this blogger and others such as Patterico, have taken Rutten to task for his strident defence of the "main stream media" and false hoods in past columns.

These past examples have earn him the moniker of "KIM IL RUTTEN" the "Dear Leader" of "objective bias in main stream reporting". Others have refer to him as simply "Mr. Leslie Abramson".

But today we put that all aside, at least until his next myopic missive, for he hits a home run regarding the Mayor's speech at Officer Randal Simmons funeral.

Some excerpts,

Now, few politicians can be fully trusted near a microphone, particularly
before a large audience on an occasion as emotionally charged as Friday's, but
nobody could have predicted the reckless digression in Villaraigosa's eulogy of
Simmons. First, he informed the audience that "the newspapers" only "tell the
truth" about LAPD officers in obituaries. Then the mayor went on to say, "We
know that the central story of this department has never been written in consent
decrees or the reports of inspectors general."

Really?

We can understand Tim getting his "Depends" in a bunch over that comment, some more.

Maybe he just has lousy speechwriters? Unlikely. Pandering is the more likely
explanation. The mayor has been taking a battering from the Police Protective
League over new financial disclosure regulations required by the consent decree.
Maybe he thought that denigrating the agreement in front of all those blue
shirts would win over some of his critics. Lots of luck on that one.

Holy Moses, Viva Hahn!!! Tim's view of Angelino thought have penetrated the walls of the "OLD GREY LADY ON SPRING STREET", and in mentioning Hahn, this.

That's Bratton's doing, of course, and one of the things Villaraigosa
doesn't want anyone to remember is that he didn't bring the chief here. His
predecessor, James Hahn, did -- and took a political hit for doing it that
probably cost him his job.

What journalistic secrets lurk in the shadows on Spring Street

What secrets are hidden under the "Journalistic Carpet" at the Los Angeles Times ??

If one was listening to the final hour of yesterday's "John and Ken Show". They were commenting on the "Buzz" from inside the "Beltway". That being Washington D.C. for the sake of disclosure. Speculation is that the "OLD GREY HAG ON SPRING STREET" is sitting on a "explosive" story. This alleged story revolves around the sex life of one of the "major candidates" for president.

Holding stories for the sake of bias and timing is nothing new to the editors at the west coast version of the "OLD GREY LADY". Plus on the timing side, if they can provide a " timely hit" on a member of the "enemy list", in the Editorial/News Room ? Then so much for objectivity. Remember a certain recall election ??, Nick Pacheco ? George Bush ? James Hahn ? Sheriff Corona ? Iraq ? But never a story on "80 Fake Neighborhood Watches" ?

It is speculation such as this. That inspired the growth of a "bloggin cottage industry" of discerning observers of all things, Los Angeles Times. Patterico and Hugh Hewitt are two that come to mind. Mind you that the Times is a "Johnny come lately" to the "Universe of Blogs". One of their own has made the "Jump" in retirement. Kevin Roderick and his "Observing West L.A. Life and his Times", almost on a daily basis, posted tales in "Times Think". His posts highlight the "unique journalistic culture" that is cut off from the realities of Los Angeles and rest of the world.

It is this unique journalistic culture that spawns "old media" scribes such as Tim Rutten. One can see his "love" for "new media". Witness Rutten's past rants against blogs and their roles in breaking stories about the Mayor's affair. Last week in his "Regarding Media" column, Rutten took "Bloggin Giant", Matt Drudge to task for posting documents on a controversial New Republic story, centered around falsehoods written by a U.S. Army soldier. It was both Hugh Hewitt and Patterico who pointed out falsehoods in Rutten's column, nothing new for the bias that is "KIM IL RUTTEN", the "Dear Leader" of "old media".

One can speculate that the unique journalistic culture at the Times has changed reporter David Zahniser. Some have opined that his "INVESTIGATED CONJONES" have been placed in a "TESTICLE LOCK BOX OF EDITING" by the "highers to be". His recent story on Richard Alatorre, coming on the back of Zuma Dogg's postings, kicked off rampant speculations to that effect. Remember, this the same Zahniser who broke the Miguel Contreras story. Will he match that in his new gig at the Times ?

That said, the answer to the original premise, lies in the Times standing within the city and "ELITE OLD MEDIA". The Times abdicated its role as a neutral observer long ago when Otis Chandler steered them leftward. Thus cementing the Times role as a left of center agenda, P.R. organ. Now its just a matter of what monkey is turning the handle. But is anyone still listening ? Then who will "post" the truth ? Hmm....
