What journalistic secrets lurk in the shadows on Spring Street
What secrets are hidden under the "Journalistic Carpet" at the Los Angeles Times ??If one was listening to the final hour of yesterday's "John and Ken Show". They were commenting on the "Buzz" from inside the "Beltway". That being Washington D.C. for the sake of disclosure. Speculation is that the "OLD GREY HAG ON SPRING STREET" is sitting on a "explosive" story. This alleged story revolves around the sex life of one of the "major candidates" for president.
Holding stories for the sake of bias and timing is nothing new to the editors at the west coast version of the "OLD GREY LADY". Plus on the timing side, if they can provide a " timely hit" on a member of the "enemy list", in the Editorial/News Room ? Then so much for objectivity. Remember a certain recall election ??, Nick Pacheco ? George Bush ? James Hahn ? Sheriff Corona ? Iraq ? But never a story on "80 Fake Neighborhood Watches" ?
It is speculation such as this. That inspired the growth of a "bloggin cottage industry" of discerning observers of all things, Los Angeles Times. Patterico and Hugh Hewitt are two that come to mind. Mind you that the Times is a "Johnny come lately" to the "Universe of Blogs". One of their own has made the "Jump" in retirement. Kevin Roderick and his "Observing West L.A. Life and his Times", almost on a daily basis, posted tales in "Times Think". His posts highlight the "unique journalistic culture" that is cut off from the realities of Los Angeles and rest of the world.
It is this unique journalistic culture that spawns "old media" scribes such as Tim Rutten. One can see his "love" for "new media". Witness Rutten's past rants against blogs and their roles in breaking stories about the Mayor's affair. Last week in his "Regarding Media" column, Rutten took "Bloggin Giant", Matt Drudge to task for posting documents on a controversial New Republic story, centered around falsehoods written by a U.S. Army soldier. It was both Hugh Hewitt and Patterico who pointed out falsehoods in Rutten's column, nothing new for the bias that is "KIM IL RUTTEN", the "Dear Leader" of "old media".
One can speculate that the unique journalistic culture at the Times has changed reporter David Zahniser. Some have opined that his "INVESTIGATED CONJONES" have been placed in a "TESTICLE LOCK BOX OF EDITING" by the "highers to be". His recent story on Richard Alatorre, coming on the back of Zuma Dogg's postings, kicked off rampant speculations to that effect. Remember, this the same Zahniser who broke the Miguel Contreras story. Will he match that in his new gig at the Times ?
That said, the answer to the original premise, lies in the Times standing within the city and "ELITE OLD MEDIA". The Times abdicated its role as a neutral observer long ago when Otis Chandler steered them leftward. Thus cementing the Times role as a left of center agenda, P.R. organ. Now its just a matter of what monkey is turning the handle. But is anyone still listening ? Then who will "post" the truth ? Hmm....

Zahniser is sad indeed, if his posting on Alatorre came "on the heels of zuma doggs" and there is any relation. Wet spot, are you really that desperate to try to drum up fake credibility for your fake news, which is in fact recycled from the Old Hag and many others, days later?
By the way, DZ doesn't have "investigated conjones" as far as I know. It would be unusual indeed if moving to the Old Hag meant his editors were prying down there in his nether regions, to see if he really has the "cojones" to do the job of "investigating."
Why doesnt the Times do a follow-up story on Mirthala? Is she shacking up with the Mayor at Getty House? Any taxpayer funds being used to support her? What is she doing for money? Is her valley condo for sale? Has the mayor been asking friends to hire her? Are they still and item? Does she accompany him to public events? Has the Times asked her for an interview? What about the divorce proceedings? Anybody bothered to take a look at the court file lately? So far we get no follow up from the Times. What the heck is going on??? This is a juicy little story and its getting totally ignored by the Times. Why? Probably because of a combination of factors including 1) the reporters and editors are sympathetic to the fashionable "progressive" politics of the mayor 2) they feel uncomfortable because of the embarrassing personal nature of the Mirthala story 3) they feel reluctant to bag on a Hispanic politician 4) they feel indebted to the mayor and his top lieutenants for news tips on other stories.

Another reason why City Hall settles with fired GMs is the fact that they know a lot of dirty secrets. Mayor knows they'd probably reveal their secrets if they didn't get some going away money. Some very bad things happen every day in the various departments, especially LAPD, LAFD and Animal Services. The employees commit crimes daily. It's a good ole boy system so people rarely talk.

Hillary Problems,
Gaunt and glancing nervously at reporters, disgraced Democratic moneyman Norman Hsu appeared in a California court yesterday and agreed to spend another 10 weeks behind bars while his lawyers do "research."
The surprise delay raised eyebrows because Hsu's lawyers had filed motions asking the court to refund the $2 million bail he skipped out on in September and toss his 1992 fraud conviction altogether.
The postponement could signal anything from plea deal discussions to a ploy to fend off federal prosecutors in New York, who recently accused Hsu of a separate $60 million Ponzi scheme, one expert said.
"We're doing more research. These things take time," Hsu's lawyer, James Brosnahan, said after the judge postponed the case until Jan. 4.
Columbia law Prof. Daniel Richman said California and New York authorities could be in "some sort of negotiation toward a global resolution" of Hsu's cases.
"It might also serve [Hsu's] purposes to stall until the presidential campaign is over," Richman said.
"It's not because the federal charges will go away, but it might be a more hospitable environment."
It’s great to have this way of communication. If we relied on the L.A. Times we would not know anything of worth. We have to find out the truth from other sources. In reading all these post and for what I know, we have a complete dysfunctional City Hall, but we must be dysfunctional too because we are allowing it to happen. The Mayor, the Councilmen are in those positions to serve the people. They are not in those positions to grant favors to friends or family members. They were not elected so they can give questionable permits to their supporters or to become wealthy in the process with shady deals. Our job is to stop treating them as Hollywood Stars or royalty and make them accountable. THEY ARE SERVANTS OF THE PEOPLE AND WE MUST HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE.

One poll finding this week that shook Democrats came in a survey conducted by Democracy Corps, a consortium organized by party consultants Stan Greenberg, Al Quinlan and James Carville. It asked voters to pick two from a list of seven problems that explain "why the country is going in the wrong direction."
The survey found that among independent voters, 40 percent -- by far the largest group -- picked this option: "Our borders have been left unprotected and illegal immigration is growing."

It has been common knowlege for a long time that Hillary was in the closet. This came out when Bill was running. It surfaced again after she became the Senator.

The LA Times is sitting on a story until they sort out the ethics? That proves that it's about a Democrat. I don't recall that the LAT pondered the ethics or even the accuracy of Arnold Schwarzenegger scandal stories before the 2003 California gubernatorial recall and election.
Only thing for sure is it's NOT the Edwards story which was going around. Allegedly had an affair with a female fundraiser/ staffer who traveled with him to exotic locales, but has since been let go to squash the rumors.
With biggest thing he's got going for him is standing by his cancer-ridden wife, that would have done him in.
If it's Hilary, would be funny if the first female leading presidential candidate is also gay. If that comes after the election it could be cool -- would also give Bill a pass for his past. Or maybe it's just cruel stereotyping since she's become heavy and that hair~
If it's a Republican and the story comes out when it's too late to spin control, like with Arnold, that would kill his chances. Who is that? A lot of them already have younger or attractive wives.

Since the Tribune took over the Times they've cut corners to save money and because they have a superior attitude towards Los Angeles. The Times writers prefer Zell to the Tribune, and think that if Geffen buys it like he's rumored to want to, he'll put the energy and resources into it to remake it as a powerful paper. The MSM is not dead yet, there's no substitute for the hundred or so years of cred that has gone into the L A and N Y Times. Yes they have a political bias reflecting the owners and chief editors, but they refrain from publishing heresay and rumor. Unlike the Three Churros or blogs.
