Mid-day Briefs on the Los Angeles Political Machine for Thursday
“It hurts me to speak against her,” said former City Councilmember and school teacher Jackie Goldberg, who supported Garcia four years ago but now regrets it. “Her leadership on giving our schools away to charters… has broken my heart.”
When Garcia was given the chance to speak, she passed on using a microphone and bellowed ....
Garcia herself declined to use the microphone, but with her booming voice pointed out that “any Democrat that has endorsed in this race has endorsed me.”
....... but at the end of the evening, Garcia went home without the endorsement of her party. Match point Goldberg and UTLA.
** KPCC's excellent City Hall Reporter Frank Stoltze has the backgound on the other endorsement actions of the Los Angeles County Collectivistcrats. Of interest was CD 1 City Council Candidate Gil Cedillo's move to deny challenger CD 1 Chief of Staff Jose Gardea party support in their election duel.
** Downtown News Editor and "Scribe of Wit" Jon Regardie, shares his thoughts on the must watch races in March, we post an excerpt below for review.
Ninth District Battle Royale: Who will replace Jan Perry in the district that includes the L.A. Live campus and the Figueroa Corridor? Good luck figuring it out, as at least five folks have a legitimate shot at the runoff. LAPD Deputy Chief Terry Hara is the big fundraising leader to date, but some question whether a Japanese American can win the heavily Latino and African American district. Ana Cubas, the former chief of staff to José Huizar, is angling for the women and Latino blocs, but like others in the race she recently moved into the Ninth and is susceptible to charges of carpetbagging. Ex-USC government relations worker David Roberts has a deep history in the area and claims key endorsements including Downtown’s Central City Association, but he, former state Assemblyman Mike Davis and state Sen. Curren Price (a favorite of organized labor) are all pursuing the black vote. Again, this race could be decided by knocking on doors.
** President Barack "H" Obama's Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis has tendered her resignation. The former local state politician, is the local labor choice to replace fiscal moderate LA County Board of Supervisor Gloria Molina when she terms out in 2014.
Your thoughts ..............
