This is the city: Los Angeles, California. I work here. I'm an ex-mayor. Los Angeles is a magnet for people from all over the world. Some of them run for public office. Inevitably some of them stray from the golden rule and rule for those that have the gold. That's when I go to work. My name is Yorty. I'm a dead pol.

The Mormon Church continues to be a lightning rod for those protesting Tuesday's passage of Proposition 8 which ends the rights of same-sex couples to marry. Following a protest of 3000 estimated outside Mormon church headquarters here in Los Angeles, on Friday protestors are planning to demonstrate outside the church's mother ship in Salt Lake City. The Mormons were one of the major contributors to the Yes on 8 cause, however over a million dollars was also contributed by the Catholic all-male fraternal organization, The Knights of Columbus as well as funding by a number of other Protestant and Jewish organizations.Labels: barack obama, eric garcetti, guillermo huesca, hal netkin, knights of columbus, LA Times, mormon church, proposition 8, same-sex marriage, zuma dogg
