In 2010, Greneker was looking to start a new business manufacturing countertops out of recycled materials. They planned to invest about $1 million in a facility. They found candidates in empty or underused industrial buildings in Downtown, but none made financial sense, Johnson recently told 14th District City Councilman José Huizar and a room of developers.“The sheer labor and cost it would take to go ahead and repurpose those buildings, to bring them up to current codes and adaptability to the type of machinery we were looking at, didn’t make sense,” Johnson said during an afternoon meeting at the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator, a city-funded Arts District entity that aims to nurture fledgling companies. “I ended up doing it in Ohio.”

.... this should become a mayoral race topic on why Los Angeles is a failing city along the coast of "Greece on the Pacific".

From the traditional May Day participants such as the Revolutionary Workers Party to now the George Soros/SEIU/Van Jones directed Occupy Movement, the aggrieve working class/wards of the government, are mulling about the various downtown byways. 

With Occupy LA a costly poop movement memory, the traffic of commerce that provides the tax revenue for the likes of Mayor Antonio Villar to jet about in search of his next political incarnation, will be affected throughout the day.

** In honor of the "International Day of the LA Worker", the MTA Board committed an act of heresy against the collectivist by voting to give a Japanese firm a $890 Million dollar contract for rail cars.  

** The "Old Gray Collectivist Hag on Spring Street" is reporting that various activists are banding together to prevent anymore cuts to the Recreation and Parks Budget. Whacked to the tune of $40 Million dollars over the last our years, the likes of Councilman Eric Garcetti and Tom LaBonge are calling for more "Public/Private Partnerships" (ie. giveaway of park space to connected non-profits). Face with $4 Million more in cuts in the proposed 2012/2013 Budget, the innovated CLASS Park Anti-Gang Program may be targeted for closure. The simple and blunt solution here would be to take $4-8 Million dollars from the Mayor's GRYD Program and give it to Rec.and Parks, since some GRYD sub-contractors have made a "legacy of pirating" Rec and Parks programming into their prevention programs.

** Lastly, what would May Day be without a "Bloggin Denouncement" of those who act against the best interest of the 46th Assembly District Collective?

HACLA to open new Library in Ramona Gardens Housing Project

 How does a much-maligned public agency such as the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles work to change its tarnished image? You start with projects that truly benefit the tenants of its city-wide properties. Thus, HACLA is getting into the library business.

 Responding to community member's desires to have a neighborhood facility where children can access books and other forms of literature, HACLA broke ground on March 13, 2012 in building its first library onits property in the City of Los Angeles.

Students from UCLA and community members turned out to catalog books, paint walls, build bookshelves and help in whatever way they could bring this new source of learning to the Ramona Gardens Community.

HACLA C.O.O. Ken Simmons (standing under the UCLA sign) greets UCLA students. Working with HACLA's Joel Lopez, community collaborators such as the Ramona Gardens Resident Advisory Council, City of Los Angeles Recreation and Parks, Soledad Enrichment Action (SEA), Barrio Action Youth and Family Center, LAPD, along with students from UCLA, may this historic day a success.

Ramona Gardens RAC President Maggie Ortiz (in blue with daughter Kristy on right) was the brainchild for the library proposal. Maggie had campaigned to have a library place near the Ramona Gardens Community. Her hard woirk and building a coalition of the above mentioned groups, help achieve her dream. A formal opening is set for near the end of the month.
