Carmen Trutanich Releases New TV Commercial

City Attorney candidate Carmen Trutanich has released a new television commerical that has some really great production values and is far more effective than some of the Jack Weiss ads.

Here's Weiss' Walter Mondaleesque spot:

We all remember Mondale right?

Feminists Endorse Palin

I want to see how Jim Alger and other Democrats spin this but a number of high profile female Democrats have broken rank with the Democratic party and endorsed Sarah Palin and the McCain-Palin ticket.  While the Democrats have a wet dream over the endorsement of Barack Obama by Colin Powell - who just a short time ago they were calling a "house Negro" - I am sure they will find a way to trash these courageous women:

Prameela Bartholomeusz - a small business
owner and a member of the Democratic National Platform Committee, Linda Klinge - Past Oregon president and now Vice-President of theNational Organization of Women, Shelly Mandell - President of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Organization of Women, Lynn Rothschild - member of the Democratic Platform Committee, Elaine Lafferty - a former editor in chief of Ms. Magazine.

This group of women appeared with Palin today in Nevada and a good point was made - why hasn't it taken a generation since the last time a woman was chosen as a Vice-Presidential candidate, when Geraldine Ferraro was chosen as Walter Mondale's running mate in 1984.  Good question and one that should be answered by the Democrats and Republicans.

Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Thursday

Mayoral candidate Walter Moore reports he is very close to reaching the $150,000 contributions received threshold in order to qualify for matching funds in the 2009 election.  However, there's still an out for Mayor Villaraigosa.  When Walter reaches that threshold, the Mayor could decline matching funds for his campaign which would release him from a requirement to debate Moore or any other candidate who qualifies for the matching funds.

Though LAPD figures claim crime is at the level it was in 1967, Community activist David Hernandez makes a good point: 247 people in LA have been murdered so far this year, hardly a reason to celebrate.  Hernandez also adds up the numbers, nearly 1200 have been killed during Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's administration.

City Council President Eric Garcetti has announced that Albina Ferreyra has been appointed as his Field Deputy for Atwater.  Previously Ferreyra served as a deputy for 1st District Councilman Ed Reyes.
Even though there's no money for it and route options are considered controversial in various communities, the MTA plans to press forward with not one but two subway boondoggles for the Westside.  Let's hope that the sales tax increase scam on the November ballot doesn't pass and give this nonsense any more life.  As we know, you can't build enough trains to end LA's traffic woes.  The answer lies in allowing private operators to meet the market demand for commuter public transportation (as is done in New York) and to encourage the growth of new business around housing.
Though the City is facing a water crisis and has ordered drastic efforts to save water, various City agencies are still found wasting the precious liquid.  The LA Times documents Recreation and Parks Department employees hosing down tennis courts.  Maybe they need a water broom.

Barabra Bush Was Right, Ferraro Is A Bitch

Barbara Bush once said of Geraldine Ferraro, "I can’t say it, but it rhymes with rich." The Second Lady later apologized, but she was probably right.

Today the old, haggard, washed up Democrat probably proved the Silver Fox right.

(For those of you young kids who are too young to remember, Geraldine Ferraro was the first and last woman to be on a major party national ticket, serving as the running mate for the 1984 Democratic nominee, Walter Mondale)

Speaking to the Daily Breeze, Mrs. Zaccaro said "If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept."

What a crock of shit.

I don't talk ,much about the old, dead Republican Mayor's liberal wayward, liberal Democratic youth. Winston Churchill said, "Any 20 year-old who isn't a liberal doesn't have a heart, and any 40 year-old who isn't a conservative doesn't have a brain." He was pretty much right there. Anyway, indeed I worked on the Mondale-Ferraro Campaign in 1984 as a twenty year old volunteer for "Youth for Mondale" (I think there were three of us at the time.)

Though as wild-eyed, young liberals we were excited at the prospect of a woman actually becoming Vice President of the United States. Though we had to gloss over the fact that as a three term member of the House of Representatives Ferraro was hardly qualified.

As noted by Time Magazine in 1984:

"Gerri passes all the tests," says Congresswoman Barbara Kennelly, a Connecticut Democrat. "She is photogenic, she is bright, she has worked, she has brought up children, she is the right age." But is she qualified to be Vice President? Ferraro is the first to admit that she is being considered mainly because of her gender, not her qualifications.

And hence, the crock of shit. Geraldine Ferraro was chosen as a Vice Presidential nominee simply because she had a vagina (assuming she still does). She had not run in any primaries, no one had ever heard of her, she had nothing to distinguish her. Walter Mondale decided if he had any chance of beating Ronald Reagan he had to pick a woman. Old drunken, blowhard, bloated House Speaker Tip O'Neill suggested Ferraro.

Let's compare Gerry's record to Barack Obama's: Prior to being selected as Mondale's running mate, Ferraro has served six years in the House of Representatives. Prior to that, she was an attorney and second grade teacher. Obama on the other hand has been a US Senator for four years, was a State Senator for seven years, worked in the corporate world, was a public interest attorney, a law professor and was President of the Harvard Law Review.

Does Hillary Clinton really want someone who is apparently so old and out of it she makes dumb, racist comments as part of her campaign? Apparently she does. I would think the Clintons would not want the stink of Mondale-Ferraro on them but I guess not.

Is Mrs. Clinton's approval of Ferraro an indication of Clinton's own views? I am sure Democrats would like to know and know soon.

Ferraro's remarks and Mrs. Clinton's husband's activities during the South Carolina primaries are only but two examples of an insidious, racist element within the Clinton campaign that is attempting to discredit Obama. Adding insult to injury when asked to address rumors that Obama is a Muslim, Mrs. Clinton said that the rumors were not true "as far as she knows." So typical of the Clintons. As a member of the same denomination as Barack Obama, the United Church of Christ, I am personally offended by her remarks.

Though I can't support Barack Obama for President because of his political views (and that alone; I am quite tempted to vote for him), I am rooting for him to win the Democratic nomination, if only to finally send the Clintons to hell where they belong.
