Barabra Bush Was Right, Ferraro Is A Bitch

Barbara Bush once said of Geraldine Ferraro, "I can’t say it, but it rhymes with rich." The Second Lady later apologized, but she was probably right.

Today the old, haggard, washed up Democrat probably proved the Silver Fox right.

(For those of you young kids who are too young to remember, Geraldine Ferraro was the first and last woman to be on a major party national ticket, serving as the running mate for the 1984 Democratic nominee, Walter Mondale)

Speaking to the Daily Breeze, Mrs. Zaccaro said "If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept."

What a crock of shit.

I don't talk ,much about the old, dead Republican Mayor's liberal wayward, liberal Democratic youth. Winston Churchill said, "Any 20 year-old who isn't a liberal doesn't have a heart, and any 40 year-old who isn't a conservative doesn't have a brain." He was pretty much right there. Anyway, indeed I worked on the Mondale-Ferraro Campaign in 1984 as a twenty year old volunteer for "Youth for Mondale" (I think there were three of us at the time.)

Though as wild-eyed, young liberals we were excited at the prospect of a woman actually becoming Vice President of the United States. Though we had to gloss over the fact that as a three term member of the House of Representatives Ferraro was hardly qualified.

As noted by Time Magazine in 1984:

"Gerri passes all the tests," says Congresswoman Barbara Kennelly, a Connecticut Democrat. "She is photogenic, she is bright, she has worked, she has brought up children, she is the right age." But is she qualified to be Vice President? Ferraro is the first to admit that she is being considered mainly because of her gender, not her qualifications.

And hence, the crock of shit. Geraldine Ferraro was chosen as a Vice Presidential nominee simply because she had a vagina (assuming she still does). She had not run in any primaries, no one had ever heard of her, she had nothing to distinguish her. Walter Mondale decided if he had any chance of beating Ronald Reagan he had to pick a woman. Old drunken, blowhard, bloated House Speaker Tip O'Neill suggested Ferraro.

Let's compare Gerry's record to Barack Obama's: Prior to being selected as Mondale's running mate, Ferraro has served six years in the House of Representatives. Prior to that, she was an attorney and second grade teacher. Obama on the other hand has been a US Senator for four years, was a State Senator for seven years, worked in the corporate world, was a public interest attorney, a law professor and was President of the Harvard Law Review.

Does Hillary Clinton really want someone who is apparently so old and out of it she makes dumb, racist comments as part of her campaign? Apparently she does. I would think the Clintons would not want the stink of Mondale-Ferraro on them but I guess not.

Is Mrs. Clinton's approval of Ferraro an indication of Clinton's own views? I am sure Democrats would like to know and know soon.

Ferraro's remarks and Mrs. Clinton's husband's activities during the South Carolina primaries are only but two examples of an insidious, racist element within the Clinton campaign that is attempting to discredit Obama. Adding insult to injury when asked to address rumors that Obama is a Muslim, Mrs. Clinton said that the rumors were not true "as far as she knows." So typical of the Clintons. As a member of the same denomination as Barack Obama, the United Church of Christ, I am personally offended by her remarks.

Though I can't support Barack Obama for President because of his political views (and that alone; I am quite tempted to vote for him), I am rooting for him to win the Democratic nomination, if only to finally send the Clintons to hell where they belong.

OMG, when I saw the headline, I thought it was Edward HeadUpHis Butt, PC gone amoke.

If you people can't handle the truth from GF, who spend her life trying to ensure race/gender blind equality, you are all PROVING what she says.

You play the race game in your FAVOR, otherwise, you have to treat Obama as "the annointe one' and never, ever, mention his lack of qualifications and bizarre ego and sense of entitlement.

That's right, Obama's sense "of entitlement," so much greater than Hillary's, and so mucn more without foundation, but so much more based on race and flavor of the month.

Ferraro reminds me that I can almost feel comfortable about having voted for Reagan in 1984.

This isn't gender equality, or any kind of equality, when you presume anyone got where they were on race alone. Obama's campaign is incredibly smart.

I don't get Hillary's claim to experience. She famously hired the utterly inept Ira Magaziner to implement her failed health care plan when she was in the White House. A few years later, after his spectacular failure, he strutted his science chops by marketing cold fusion.

She has stood by her man through ceaseless bimbo eruptions. When the phone rings at 3 a.m., it's almost always for Bill.

The phone was ringing off the hook at 3 a.m. in 1994 and Rwanda deteriorated into genocide. President Obama will handle that kind of call very differently.

If so, you're far more shallow than I've been giving you credit for.

Higby once again you're wrong.

Hillary will be elected President.

Mayor Villaraigosa will be re-elected. Zev will not run. The only person who will run is that dumb Walter Moore. If you donate money to him be sure it is a waste.

In 2010, Mayor Villaraigosa will be elected Governor.

Your girlfriend Sara Paley will find herself left with five kids by her husband when he goes for a younger girl.

You will continue to be a fat dumbass and Joe Meathed will be become an even older dumbass.

Bob Hertzberg will never be elected to anything again.

Dumbass.

So Ferraro went from being "Queen Bitch" in her "photogenic" youth, to being "old, haggard, washed up" and more. You call her old at least 2-3 more times, like that makes a difference? And you're supporting who, McCain?

She has 6 years at the national level vs. Obama's 6. And you say she wasn't denying that she was picked to run because she was a woman? Just like she's saying the same about Obama being a man?

So you mean, she's just honest and now, 23 years after she ran, we're in an even more PC country than we were then. How sad.

As for looks, you know, the group photo of the Blogging Burros isn't exactly beefcake caledar material.

Mayor Sam:

"Youth for Mondale?"

Isn't that an oxymoron like "journalistic ethics" or "LA Times local news coverage?"

Hey Mailander, you obviously care more about bimbo eruptions than we do. Most of us could care less. If Hillary stuck around and I wouldn't call that "standin' by her man" exactly, I'm sure she had good reason.

Like getting where she is today.. The next President of the United States of America.

In addition to just "being" a first lady, she was intensely involved, much to the dismay of the Republicans in the 90's. You cannot deny that living there in the White House, injecting herself into the political conversations and meetings and traveling to foreign countries on behalf of the U.S. hasn't given her experience.

Why, that's like saying you have no business writing about LA politics because what exactly is your experience?

She knows what's going on in the world, she has always been the most intelligent candidate and she definitely has more experience than Obama.

She's been vetted. She can beat McCain. You won't find out any secrets about her.

If you don't like the way she looks and don't want to see her age before your eyes, then perhaps women all over the world should start to consider that when voting for a candidate.

You think Shrillary is a funny little name? She's no more shrill than Obama is a rhymer like Jesse Jackson. What could we call Obama? Anything but black. Shh. We have to be quiet about that for some reason.

Wonder who the next Demo-dinosaur will be that the Clintons pull out to make inane public statements on their behalf. Appears they are throwing mud on the wall, seeing what will stick, so far the walls are treated with that old teflon stuff.

And that's exactly the example I DON'T want her setting for my daughter. My daughter shouldn't have to "stick around" with an asshole just because it "might" get her into the Presidency. She should never have to use a man to catapault herself into any future successes she enjoys. It's all too cold and calculating and unfeeling for my tastes.

My daughter is ready to start the Fourth Wave.

Her issues will not jibe with the current Second Wave insistence that simply by virtue of being MARRIED TO SOMEONE that somehow, by osmosis, you garner their experience and assume it as your own.

Yeah, my husband the brain surgeon has given me so much experience by letting me watch him in the operating theatre, that I'm now ready to perform intricate labotomies all on my own! I can do it! I seen it done a million times! I HAVE EXPERIENCE!

Ugh.
