You Too Can Go To Camp Obama!

If you're a big supporter of the presumptive Democratic nominee, you can spend the rest of your summer at Camp Obama. With apologies to Allan Sherman, here's Rita of Sunland with her ode to the retreat.

Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Wednesday

Mayor Poopy may have a new role. Governor Schrwarzenegger has forwarded former Mayor James Hahn's name to the State Bar Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation as a possible appointee to the Los Angeles Superior Court. Should Hahn be eventually appointed to the Court he'd be the first former Los Angeles Mayor to serve on the Court since Fletcher Bowron.

This has got to be the most ridiculous idea to come before the Council in I don't know how long. Clowncilman Richard Alarcon has got unanimous support from the Council to support Assembly Bill 1819 which would allow 16 and 17 year olds to "pre-register and vote." This is something that will lead to more voter fraud but will add to the bureaucracy to make it happen. The idea is to get young people more involved but the logic is lost on me. What's next? Allowing teens to pre-register for their first kegger or their first age of consent sex?

The Former Fishwrap of Record has endorsed City Councilman Bernard Parks for County Supervisor. The Times says that Bernie has "shown a steady hand chairing the City Council's budget committee, and would bring similar care to the much larger county government."

We reported yesterday that Mayor Villaraigosa appeared in the Canoga Park Memorial Day Parade. A columnist at the Ventura County Star reports that protestors showed up to shame the Mayor for his support of Special Order 40. Speaking of the Canoga Park Parade here are photos of future Mayoral candidate Zev riding in the parade.

Access Hollywood is reporting that Britney Spears could be planning a Vegas comeback special. Spears could be paid $10 million for the special and follow up with a series of concert dates in sin city.

And finally, I had the opportunity to join Rita of Sunland a few months back at the premiere of Doug McIntyre's and Penny Peyser's homage to legendary jazz artist Jack Sheldon, the biographical Trying To Get Good: The Jazz Odyssey of Jack Sheldon. Now if you want to see the film now is your chance. There are a number of screenings scheduled from this Friday the 30th through June 19th at The Westwood Crest Theatre.

The Top Ten Mother Figures

Before we close the books on Mothers' Day 2008, I want to take up a suggestion by Valley Doll that I list the city's top 10 hottest moms or mom like figures. There's a term that is often used for attractive women of advanced childbearing years that I won't use here, but the following is LA's top ten:

10 - Kelly Lange - The former KNBC anchorwoman is no longer on the air but should be. She now keeps busy by writing novels

9 - Janice Hahn - If she's not rescuing alligators, paying gangbangers, parking in the wrong spot or banning roosters, many fellas still think she's kind of cute.

8 - Colleen Williams - A fixture on local news programs since the 80s; about 15 years ago she finally started dying that famous prematurely gray streak in her hair. She's only 53 so she'll be on the air for some time to come.

7 - Wally Wharton AKA Rita of Sunland - The actress and writer turned local activist, blogger and talkradio gadfly technically isn't a mom but an aunt. Still, boys line up for her eccentric blend of screwball comedy and oozing sensuality.

6 - Terry Davis - One time at a Mid Town North Hollywood Neighborhood Council Meeting I saw a hard nosed activist speaking out against planned development at Universal Studios. The well informed, articulate speaker was the President of the Greater Toluca Lake Neighborhood Council

5 - Abby Diamond - A tough as nails fighter who always does it with extreme grace and professionalism is a Sunland-Tujunga based activist who voraciously reads planning laws, specific plans and zoning rules. The self taught Diamond has become so much an expert on planning that other cities have hired her for her expertise. If the fight against Home Depot in Sunland-Tujunga relies on the brawn of Joe Barrett; it's brain for sure is Abby.

4 - Valley Doll - The Mayor Sam blogger and self described riot grrrl is an uber-educated philosopher and super mom. The Doll proves that a mom can still be girly and kick anyone's ass at the same time. Watch out!

3 - Kim Thompson - The "Erin Brockovich" of the Valley was one of the leading forces putting the breaks on the controversial Las Lomas development. The blonde bombshell who was a candidate for San Fernando Valley City Council during the secession movement was in her younger days an auto worker and punk rocker.

2 - Valerie Bertinelli - Okay she has nothing to do with local politics but have you seen her lately? Not bad for a 48 year old! More importantly, she's the mom of Van Halen bass player Wolfgang Van Halen who is a homegrown second generation rocker who tours with his dad, uncle and David Lee Roth.

and finally...

1 - Corina Raigosa - The former first lady of Los Angeles was scorned by the Mayor for a television temptress but showed dignity and grace throughout. She remains hot, has a long record of community activism and really should be the one to be our Mayor.

The Jack Sheldon Movie Premiere

File this under some Saturday night entertainment. Penny Peyser has posted on YouTube this brief video of the premiere of film she wrote, directed and produced with her husband talkradio host Doug McIntyre of KABC, Trying To Get Good: The Jazz Odyssey of Jack Sheldon, held last month in Westwood. Sheldon of course is the genius trumpeter and vocalist who's done everything from leading Merv Griffin's orchestra to the voice of Schoolhouse Rock to starring in a 1960s crime drama.

I had the opportunity to attend this premiere with the lovely and talented Rita of Sunland, a regular caller on numerous talkradio programs and part of the Sunland-Tujunga hottie patrol. And the evening was hosted by our good friend, KABC producer and sports host, John Phillips. Other luminaries in the house included actor Stacy Keach, singer Melissa Manchester and mayoral candidate Walter Moore.
