Morning Briefs on the Los Angeles Political Machine for Monday

Sunrise from Anza-Borrego State Park.

Great Monday morning to all as the sun rises again (with overcast skies in the LA basin) on another week of electioneering, leading up to November 6 Election Day.
CD 14 City Councilman Jose Huizar.
** As Downtown News Editor and "Scribe of Wit" Jon Regardie reports, November 6 is just the start of election season in Downtown LA and one of the first Downtown based elections, is whether Downtown inhabitants want to tax themselves to build a "legacy monument choo choo", envisioned by a certain Princeton Graduate politico.
5) Streetcar Approval, November: On Nov. 13, ballots will be sent to approximately 10,000 registered Downtown voters. They must be mailed back by Nov. 28 and delivered to the City Cleak by Dec. 3. No, I’m not sure what a “Cleak” is either, but it’s what the streetcar website said at press time. Perhaps they mean “clerk.” (** has Huizar's "one percent staff" heard of "spoll check"?)Typos aside, this will determine whether 14th District City Councilman José Huizar pops a champagne cork or cries like a 5-year-old watching Bambi’s mom die. Voters will decide whether local property owners should be taxed $62.5 million to cover half the cost of the streetcar. This could be tricky. The $125 million project needs approval from two-thirds of responding voters. However, streetcar officials expect that fewer than 1,000 people will return ballots. Every vote counts big time. For what it’s worth, $62.5 million divided by 1,000 works out to $62,500. That concludes the math portion of this column. The pro-streetcar campaign is using tactics including education and near-bribery. In addition to presentations to community members and homeowners associations, there was a free food-oriented event for more than 1,000 people in September and, on Oct. 20, a free screening of the 1985 film The Goonies at Grand Park. By press time, the two men who last week won the Nobel Prize for their work on matchmaking were still unable to determine a match between The Goonies and the Downtown streetcar.

......... and the rest of CD 14 constituents outside of "CD Downtown 14", are still trying to match Huizar and constituent services.

** Memo to District Attorney Candidate Alan Jackson (and Campaign Consultant John Thomas). There is something called a "background check" that should be predicated when ANYONE gives money to a campaign because you never know when a ex. felon may be in a giving mood.
** The Daily News Rick Orlov Monday's "Tipoff Column" this week features a bit of Labor shilling for a No vote on Prop 32, 'Mini Amin Wesson" playing a mayoral dictator, a possible CD 6 Special election and lastly, an Assemblyman Gil Cedillo "End of Session/Coming Home Tour" (** there is no fact to the rumor that an undocumented drivers would be chosen to receive their driver's license and steer Cedillo around the various barrios of his assembly district).

Notes on the Primary Election Scorecard for June 6, 2012

Lies do cause political harm Carmen.
Another Big Money Campaign Loss for "Private Citizen/ Political Consultant" John Shallman.
Great morning to all in Los Angeles, California and thee United States of America!
As is customary after each election cycle, this blogger honors one of Los Angeles most beloved sports writer, the late Allan "Mud" Malamud by offer our post election musing "Notes on the Primary Election Scorecard". There are winners, definitely losers and other relevant observations on yesterday's election proceedings. But most important are your thoughts on yesterday's results.
Losers:
Dare we utter the four letter name of yesterday's biggest political loser? NUCH!
Who once again consulted his way through mega campaign funding only to sink again the political aspirations of his client? We may risk another "cease and desist order", but we must or "shall(man)" name the "swift boated, private citizen/political consultant", or maybe not .
The "kiss of endorsement death" via Mayor Antonio Villar, claimed another political candidate with former Mayor Villar staffer Torie Osborn failing to make the General Election runoff in the 50th Assembly District.
Voters in the newly-drawn 39th Assembly District will hopefully do the greater good and end the "Zorro Marxist Era" of political self-enrichment in November.
Charter School supporters ED Voice spent how much on 46th AD Candidate Brian Johnson only to see him just slip into the second spot in front of Republican Jay Stern by 83 votes?
What is another election cycle without a crying baby moment from the Infant Assemblyman Mike Gatto? Little Mikey will have multiple political tantrum days ahead as only 56% of voters selected him over Republican Greg Kirkorian who spent less than $10,000 on yesterday's vote.
The Calderon Family Machine of Montebello took a major hit yesterday as Tom Calderon fail to advance to the General Election in the 58th Assembly District. But nephew Ian Calderon (son of Chuck) placed second in the 57th Assembly District.
Under the local media radar were big losses for the public employees unions in San Jose and San Diego as voters elected to reform their respective cities retirement/pension systems.
Gotta love when the Health Nazis get defeated at the polling place, especially when the margin is close.
Congressman Howard Berman is on political life support.

** From the 39th AD, a losing streak continues for a "certain ex. blogger" who could not reverse his string of campaign losses, even with the help of some of his CD 15 campaign chums.
Lastly, President Barack "H" Obama.
Winners:
Conservative common sense in Wisconsin.
Local Republican Political Consultant John Thomas for his work on behalf of District Attorney Candidate Alan Jackson.
Former Oak Hill Resident and Progressive Political Consultant Parke Skelton for his "Swift Boating" of the Trutanich Campaign.
San Gabriel Valley Republican Assembly Candidates Joe Gardner in the 48th AD and Matthew Lin in the 49th AD, who both bested their top democratic opponants.
Raul Bocanegra in the 39th AD.
Santa Monica's Richard Bloom's outstanding showing in the 50th AD, finishing ahead of Torie Osborn.
Luis Lopez placing ahead of Gil Cedillo's candidate Arturo Chavez and behind "The Machine's" Jimmy "PACman" Gomez. Chavez, who was hurt badly by the Kinde Durkee Scandal can build upon his positive community leagacy by supporting Lopez in the General Election.
Adrin Nazarian will surely face millions more of Ed Voice's IE money after his victory in the 46th. As usual, we must note the excellent consulting work via Eric Hacopian, on behalf of the Nazarian Campaign.
....... lastly, there is winning in losing for these two republican candidates.
Getting 16% of the vote against Assembly Speaker John Perez will not assure Activist Jose Aguilar of taking any oath of office in the near future. But he and his friend Phil Jennerjahn can share a common bond from yesterday's election.
While not having the same success as fellow cheesehead Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, Jennerjahn like Aguilar, placed second in the 28th Congressional District to Congressman Adam Schiff with 17 % of the vote. Thus, both "Flounder" and "Jennerduh" advance to the General Election in November. WHAT A COUNTRY!! (** and great job both of you, especially for former cellar-dweller Phil).

Bloggin Happy Hour Musings on the LA Political Machine for Wednesday

Great Bloggin Happy Hour Musings on the local political machine for Hump Day. Join us as we tip the glass and enlighten you on these political musings that may find their way into someone's decaff morning coffee in the A.M. ; ) --- Scott Johnson..
Los Angeles City Clowncil Central Committee President Herb "Mini Amin" Wesson.
** Great Hump Day happy Hour as many depart with their suits and ties, to don Lakers gear for tonight's Game Two against the Oklahoma City Thunder. As we near tipoff, here are some quick hits from today's political festivities.
CD 10 and City Clowncil Central Committee Strongman Herb "Mini Amin" Wesson's appetite for absolute power, "may have crossed a brown line" today as HOLLYWOODHIGHLANDS.org blogger and civic activist John Walsh reports.
AT ABOUT NOON TODAY 5/16/12 PRESIDENT WESSON CALLED A RECESS TO SETTLE A DISPUTE BETWEEN KORETZ AND HUIZAR.
A MAJORITY OF COUNCIL MEMBERS SURROUNDED WESSON WHO WAS SEATED IN THE COUNCIL  PRESIDENT'S CHAIR AND SPOKE TO ONE ANOTHER ANIMATEDLY IN VIOLATION OF THE CALIFORNIA STATE OPEN MEETINGS LAW. The DEPUTY CITY ATTORNEY WAS NOWHERE IN SIGHT. THIS HAPPENED IN FRONT OF APPROXIMATELY100 EYEWITNESSES AND UNDER THE NOSES OF THE CITY HALL'S PLIANT PRESS CORPS.
THE MAJORITY OF COUNCIL MEMBERS   WHO VIOLATED THE BROWN ACT BY DISCUSSING CITY BUSINESS OUTSIDE THE  CITY COUNCIL MEETING INCLUDED  A COUPLE OF COUNCIL MEMBERS WHO  WERE PARTICIPANTS IN THE ILLEGAL DISCUSSION BY VIRTUE  OF SITTING  OR STANDING WITHIN EARSHOT OF THOSE COUNCIL MEMBERS SURROUNDING  PRESIDENT WESSON. THIS WOULD  INCLUDE
COUNCILMAN  PARKS WHO WAS SEATED
THE TOPIC OF THE ILLEGAT CONVERSATION WAS KORETZ'S AND HUIZAR'S COMPETING MARIJUANA MOTIONS.
I   USED MY IPAD TO RECORD THIS VIOLATIONS.  IT WAS A CITY COUNCIL GANG BANGWITH THE BROWN ACT AS  RAPE VICTIM!

...... at lease "Mini Amin" Wesson did not eat the Brown Act.
City of  Los Angeles Ciity Attorney and District Attorney Candidate Carmen Trutanich (center)
A bad stretch of news continues for District Attorney Candidate Carmen Trutanich as challenger Deputy DA Prosecutor Alan Jackson picks up big talk radio endorsement yesterday from KRLA AM Talk Show Host Hugh Hewitt
Los Angeles, May 16th – On Tuesday, national radio broadcaster Hugh Hewitt enthusiastically endorsed gang prosecutor Alan Jackson for District Attorney. Hewitt stressed on-air Jackson’s abilities as a gang prosecutor, his support from over 65,000 police officers, and his relationship with victims and their families. Hewitt applauded Alan’s plan to modernize the District Attorney’s office as well as his strategic approach to dealing with Prison Realignment and the thousands of state felons set for transfer to LA County. Jackson’s campaign continues to gain momentum as we move toward Election Day. Hugh Hewitt stated, “Alan Jackson is without a doubt my choice for District Attorney. I cannot more highly recommend that anyone who lives in Los Angeles County needs to vote Alan Jackson. I wish him best of luck.” Gang prosecutor Alan Jackson declared, “Earning Hugh Hewitt’s endorsement means a tremendous amount to me and my campaign. His respected opinion goes a long way not just in Los Angeles County, but across the nation where he broadcasts daily.”

Sorry, Carmen?

Los Angeles Dragnet is reporting rumors that City Attorney Carmen Trutanich is planning to drop his bid for District Attorney.

And this is just as the Nuch Machine was learning how to spin comments on MayorSam.

We do not know if the recent change to our comment policy put an end to the former tuna worker's campaign; most notably it was payback from Jan Perry and reports of disarray in his office. And maybe a little bad karma for leading Zuma Dogg down the primrose path.

The frontrunners for the DA race, to succeed the retiring Steve Cooley, are prosecutors Alan Jackson and Jackie Lacey.

UPDATE: More bad news for Carmen - Jackson announces that he has raised nearly $250K so far for his race.

Los Angeles Politics Hotsheet for Tuesday

Now that City Attorney Carmen Trutanich is running for District Attorney, he's finding that many of his former supporters - who are not really happy with his performance so far - are even less so pleased that he's already breaking his promise to not seek higher office.  DA candidate Alan Jackson put out a commercial reminding such that went viral this past weekend.  Nuch need not worry, however - Phil Jennerjahn still supports him.

Speaking of the DA's office - remember Marcia Clark who lost the OK Simpson case? She's written a mystery novel.  Have to say at 57, Clark looks excellent.

Everyone hates red light cameras, which most cities deploy not so much to prevent traffic accidents but to capture some much needed dough.  CM Dennis Zine isn't happy about them either says the Daily News.

East Hollywood looks to spruce up a significant section of Santa Monica Boulevard by playing up it's Route 66 heritage.
