Updated counts were posted Friday afternoon with Tuesday the next date voting totals will be posted. Here are the updated results in the 46th, 50th, 51st and District Attorney Races. Special note to those afflicted with "Brian Johnson Myopia", the results we are about to post may cause confusion with reality---Scott Johnson.

No Confidence in a Clown: Carmen Should Resign, Today

In countries like England, when an elected official receives a "vote of no confidence" from the legislature, they step aside for someone else to take the position.

The onetime frontrunner in the race for District Attorney self-destructed so badly that his ability to hold on to his job as Los Angeles City Attorney has to be in doubt. - Westside White Guy

Yesterday, Los Angeles City Attorney Carmen Trutanich, only two thirds into his first term, had an abysmal showing in the race to succeed his former booster, District Attorney Steve Cooley, coming in third place with less than 25% of the vote, despite the fact that Trutanich was seen as the front-runner and had most of the City's political establishment and public employee unions supporting him.

According to the Westside White Guy, "Trutanich blames the media, not himself or that dumb pledge." Typical Trutanich. At least he didn't blame George Bush.

"Barack Obama is getting hammered right now," Trutanich said. "I think the negative campaign against me is worse." - LA Weekly

The defeat, significant and embarrassing, lead lone Trutanich supporter and Congressional run-off winner, Phil Jennerjahn, to remark "I'm still his friend. I'm sad for his loss." Upon hearing the news of election returns, Truatnich reportedly remarked that he may not even consider seeking re-election next year.

However, given that Trutanich may be mortally wounded - and that many feel he has severely crippled the City Attorney's office - it may be best if Carmen takes this result as a true vote of no confidence and resign now.  Given a City Council who has had multiple run-ins with him - and who mostly supported him for fear of his power to prosecute public corruption against them as District Attorney - there is no way he can be effective following this knee-capping by the voters. He has lost his bravado and the Council will now shred him alive.

Why anyone would vote for Carmen Trutanich boggles the mind but why any Republican would vote for this shady former tuna packer completely erases the sane mind.

Republicans need to support Allan Jackson - rational minded independents, Democrats, Libertarians, etc. should also back Allan. He's received support ranging from moi to Joseph Mailander to Walter Moore to Ron Kaye (who gave a two-way nod to both Jackson and fellow Deputy DA, Jackie Lacey). Not often do those guys agree.

Carmen's biggest supporters are Jerry Brown, Antonio Villaraigosa and Phil Jennerjahn.

Hollywood activist John Walsh reports today that he has received robocalls from Jerry Brown on behalf of Trutanich.

Why even Democrats would vote for Carmen when there are perfectly capable progressive choices such as Jackie Lacey or Bobby Grace confuses me as well.

Remember - like the Daily News says "Anybody But Carmen."

The Political Recycling continues for "Private Citizen/Consultant" John Shallman

We have a "Private Citizen John Shallman" Update

 The last time we made mention of Political Consultant John Shallman aka "Private Citizen John Shallman", was our attempt to extend an open hand to resolve issues that the "Private Citizen" had with our past blog coverage of his political handiwork. For the record, we never did get response from Shallman and we respect his right to "privacy".  

But imagine our surprise when we saw Private Citizen Shallman on Fox 11 News discussing the District Attorney Race and the latest attack on his current client/candidate City Attorney Carmen Trutanich (** This is the same Political Consultant John Shallman who managed now Congresswoman Janice Hahn's campaign which filed a "Cease and Desist Order" against Fox 11 News).

Shallman, who is well verse in recycling campaign mailers for reuse among his multiple clients, showed the same proclivity for falling back on past political cliches to describe the latest attack on Trutanich as the LA Weekly reports.

John Shallman, Trutanich's strategist, appeared on Fox's Studio 11 L.A. He was asked about a May 11 story in the L.A. Times that questioned Trutanich's claim to have been attacked by gang members when he was a prosecutor in 1985.
"It's a swiftboat attack on Carmen Trutanich propagated by his chief opponent, the chief deputy district attorney in Los Angeles," Shallman said. (** Cry me up the friggin Mekong Delta after that line!)

Did anybody notice the ironies here that Shallman would revert to the Swift Boat cliche to defend a former republican from an attack by a liberal candidate who's campaign is be consulted by none other than former Oak Hill Private Street resident Parke Skelton? But lets give the "Private Citizen?Consultant Shallman credit for his efforts at bringing a green consciousness to political consulting by his use of recycle mailers ....... and now political cliches.

Allan Jackson for District Attorney

No, not THAT Alan Jackson.

The race to be Los Angeles County's District Attorney has been an interesting and wild one for sure. Writing at CityWatch, our friend Joseph Mailander accurately calls this race - with Barack Obama and Mitt Romney in no need of California's primary delegates - probably the key race drawing Los Angeles County voters to the polls next Tuesday.

Afternoon Briefs on Recalling the Los Angeles Political Machine for Thursday

Rising up against the "lead cheerleader" of the Mayor Villar Education Machine, LAUSD School Board President Monica Garcia.

Every mayoral office holder needs a designated cheerleader to rally the masses/union members in the City of Los Angeles. Former Mayor Dick Riordan had Steve "Mini Riordan I" Soboroff as his designated "rally man". For former Mayor James Hahn, he could rely on Londie "The BIG O" Cuevas to provide the "RA! RA!" to supplement the ho hum of the former "Mayor Poopy". But none, repeat no one compares to the reigning Mayor Antonio Villar "pom pom girl" LAUSD School Board President Monica Garcia for outright boosterism. API scores could drop 200 points in one year at a Mayor Villar "Partnership in Education" campus and Garcia would still lead the masses in espousing Mayor Villar's visionary reforms. Thus, most local political observers would agree that Garcia is a boisterous tool for the mayor education agenda and nothing more.

Now some six plus years after Mayor Villar's election and stagnant education progress throughout the mayor's controlled LAUSD, its no surprise that community political insurrections are breaking out within LAUSD.The Mayor Villar Education Machine sought to continue its grip on LAUSD (and its billions dollars in contracts) by anointing Garcia's Chief of Staff Luis Sanchez to succeed independent Board Member Yolie Flores- Aguilar, but were defeated by a grass-roots/UTLA coalition backed Bennett Kayser candidacy. Now community activists are setting their "political sites" on School Board President Monica Garcia by launching a Recall Campaign.  

Expect this recall to have legs considering the educational failures within the Mayor's "Partnership in Education" campus and the dismal record at Charter Schools such as Academia Semillas del Pueblo that have enjoyed support from Garcia. If UTLA joins in this recall with financial support, then they can exploit a frustrated grass-roots base and regain control of LAUSD.

** Deputy District Attorney Mario Trujillo, who was the lone Latino Candidate for District Attorney until withdrawing from the race due to health concerns, has given his endorsement to City Attorney Carmen Trutanich in his quest to replace Steve Cooley as "Los Angeles County Top Prosecutor".

** We rejoin the Blogger Joseph Mailander vs. Redistricting Commissioner Helen Kim "Battle of the City Watch Missives" over who supposedly lost K-Town ...... and its getting personal. From Helen Kim's latest retort.

So, how does Mr. Mailander respond?  He begins his response with a personal attack:  Citing "a source close to the City of Los Angeles's Redistricting Commission," Mr. Mailander reports that I was the "the first commissioner to become irrelevant" and that "[a]t one point, the City Attorney reprimanded [me] for the kind of email [I] was sending out."  (CityWatch Link) 

...... and just who did loss K-town and the ramifications? From Commissioner Kim.

So, who really lost K-Town?  A majority of the Redistricting Commission and the City Council.  And that's why Koreatown will be suing the City of Los Angeles.

** Its a Thursday and the City Controller Wendy "The Valley Greuel" is "political ambulance chasing" in search of another City Hall scandal to audit "for political self-advancement", whoops, "in the spirit of openness and transparency". Today, we join the "Valley Greuel" in another fiscal "OH MY GOD MOMENT" as she finds fraud within the finances of the Coliseum Commission

Morning Briefs on the Los Angeles Political Machine for Tuesday

"The High-Five Loving LA City Prosecutor".

OH THE (POLITICAL) DRAMA! Naught, more like waste of judicial resources.

The eyes of the local media and political bloggersphere were fixated on the Superior Courtroom of Judge Joseph Kalin as the attorneys for District Attorney Candidates Carmen Trutanich and Alan Jackson played out their "ballot designation scrabble contest".

The Jackson Campaign had undertaken this legal procedure to prevent "Team Nuch" from using the ballot designation of "Los Angeles Chief Prosecutor" and  after yesterday court proceeding, the judge bestowed this ballot designation upon the City Attorney for his quest to succeed District Attorney Steve Cooley, "LA CITY PROSECUTOR". Drama over.

** In a straight shooting missive on the fiscal future of the City of Los Angeles, CEO Miguel Santana warned the Office of Failing Two-Face Mayor Villar and the City Clowncil Central Committee, that the era of dancing the "one time budget fix cha cha" is over, unless the city's leaders aspires to become the "Stockton on the Coast".

** Imagine the thought this blogger had when he drove back into Blackberry range and found that "Charro Huizzy Corleone" is back from his fling with the fishes.

** Pause with me for a moment as my latest episode of 2013 Mayoral Campaign News shakes abates after LA Weekly's Jill Stewart most recent missive regarding a Loyola Marymount University Poll on the 2013 campaign. For LA County Supervisor Zev "Hamlet" Yaroslavsky, this poll could break his "inner standoff" on his deliberations whether to run or not.

Sorry, Carmen?

Los Angeles Dragnet is reporting rumors that City Attorney Carmen Trutanich is planning to drop his bid for District Attorney.

And this is just as the Nuch Machine was learning how to spin comments on MayorSam.

We do not know if the recent change to our comment policy put an end to the former tuna worker's campaign; most notably it was payback from Jan Perry and reports of disarray in his office. And maybe a little bad karma for leading Zuma Dogg down the primrose path.

The frontrunners for the DA race, to succeed the retiring Steve Cooley, are prosecutors Alan Jackson and Jackie Lacey.

UPDATE: More bad news for Carmen - Jackson announces that he has raised nearly $250K so far for his race.
