Morning Briefs on the Los Angeles Political Machine for Thursday

As Los Angeles County Democratic Party Leader Eric Bauman pursues his aspirations of replacing Northern Californian John Burton as the California State Democrat Party Leader, discerning political observers are questioning his lobbying work for "Big Pharma" in seeking to defeat a November Initiative that would cap Drug Prices.

** If anyone needed to see a glaring example why so many local Democrats/Progressives were "Feeling the Bern" in revolting against the "Establishment Cronycrats Political Machine", they need to look no further than LA County Democratic Party Leader Eric Bauman's "Conflicting Fiscal Dealings" ..........., as outed in a recent San Francisco Chronicle Missive.

Bauman, who also is a well-compensated (at $145,000 per year) Senior Adviser to California Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon, is making BANK via his Consulting Firm "VictoryLand Partners"/Spouse (allegedly)/ his hand-picked County Party Executive Director's work for Big Pharma as the Chronicle noted.

Records on file with the secretary of state’s office show that VictoryLand Partners, a consulting firm registered to Bauman’s home address in North Hollywood, has been paid $12,500 a month since early February to consult with the pharmaceutical industry and its allies that are fighting the measure.Last year, Bauman reported receiving more than $100,000 from VictoryLand Partners, some of it paid by health care interests. VictoryLand was active in the industry’s successful campaign against Proposition 46, the November 2014 ballot measure that would have lifted the cap on damages in medical malpractice lawsuits.

While we can chuckle at this latest example of "Do As I Say, Don't Do As I Do Leadership" from a ranking Democrat Party Official, its interesting to note that this "Teachable Moment (again) in Democratic Political Hypocrisy", originated in a Northern California publication.

Thus, we can assume that there are those in the No.Cal Democratic Party Faction, that do not want to see So. Cal Democrat Bauman, replacing John Burton as the State Democratic Party Chair ......... and when that person is profiting from the same industry that party activists are seeking to place price controls on via an Initiative, then you have the makings of a intra-mural party brawl/blood-letting.

** As the MUCH-anticipated Montebello Calderon Crime Family Corruption Trial came to naught as Brothers Tom and Ron pleaded "Guilty to the Obvious (which remaining silent on others, for now)", we have received information that pre-trial proceedings in the LA County Assessor Office Corruption Trial, featuring John Noguez will begin on July 12.

Great Labor Day Weekend getaway day to all as your Los Angeles City Clowncil Central Committee gathers this morning to formally vote on the confirmation of Mayor Eric Garcetti's nominees to sit on the Police Commission and guess who is not happy with the choices? Betty.

Betty, or better known as the reigning purveyor of Yellow Journalism in South LA, is still having issues with the fact that now Mayor Eric Garcetti beat her sister of choice Wendy "Boss D'Arcy's Greuel" last May. Thus, it should come as no surprise that her recent Soulvine Columns have become thorny in nature, in regards to Mayor Garcetti. We provide the yellowish, thorny excerpts below.

I did not mince words when I slammed Eric Garcetti’s candidacy for mayor, as I was obsessed with his documented unreliability as a councilman, had personally experienced his wishy-washiness as a man and listened to colleagues describe his faint heartedness as a human being, but never did I think him to be so vainglorious and vindictive that he would impede the heretofore smooth operation of this city by appointing a bunch of irrelevant losers, nobodies, done-nothings and governmental greenhorns to the city commissions.

Mayor Garcetti is stupid and has appointed the worst batch of city commissioners since the late Mayor Sam Yorty (we always knew that Betty loved us), and the most egregious thing he did — among a long list — was his removal of John Mack from the Police Commission, where he had served eight years. Mack was in his second year as Police Commission president when Garcetti yanked him off the commission, and before that, Mack had been vice president of the commission for two years.

But even before former Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa appointed him to the Police Commission in August 2005, (and reappointed him in 2009) Mack was a vibrant force in this city as president of the Urban League for 36 years and a strong advocate for equal opportunities in education, economic empowerment and law enforcement for all communities. He was a leader in the 1960 civil rights movement in Atlanta, he co-founded and co-chaired the Committee for Human Rights and has played an instrumental role in bridging the gap between the Los Angeles Police Department and the communities it serves. He has molded the LAPD into an entity we African-Americans no longer hate. We appreciate John Mack and we deplore Garcetti’s callous mistreatment of him.
 

John Mack is somebody. He is the Martin Luther King Jr. of this city (along with the venerable Reverends Chip Murray and James Lawson, civil rights giants) and nobody but a fool would remove any one of these men from whatever position they hold in service to the people of Los Angeles. They have earned the right to remain wherever they are for as long as they like. But, no, classless Garcetti dumped John Mack because he supported Wendy Greuel for mayor instead of him! Wait, and with whom who did he replace Mack? Paula Madison, a former NBC television executive? SHUT UP!!

Great Hump Day Lunch Hour to all as we crest another work week and cruise downhill to the next weekend. Here is a tasty lunch time political bloggin munchie missive to ward away the post noontime political brain drain.

City of Los Angeles Police Commission Nominee Andrea Ordin 

Not everyone is happy with the nomination of former LA County Legal Council Andrea Ordin to a second stint on the City of Los Angeles Police Commission. We receive this email from retired Parole Officer Caroline Aguirre which has several allegations pertaining to an Ordin Associate. We welcome Ordin to respond to these allegations via Aguirre.

Mayor V wants to name former member of the LAPD police commission  back to being a member again. But wait former Deputy US Atty. left her position with the LAPD Police Commission to become to head council for the LA County Board of Supervisors. She left the LA .Co. position after it was brought out by the LA Times that she allowed ( had full prior knowledge ) of the meeting which was held behind closed doors with Gov. Brown and the LA. County Board members ( Violation of the Brown Act. ) This Brown Act violation cost California Taxpayers more than 14 thousand  dollars.

Here is more information. This same female has a part time employee named H. Ruiz who resides in Highland Park. As per. this employee she was advised by 2 people to provide housing for illegal individuals . One being her part time employer former member of the LAP police commission and a Catholic Priest who Ms. Ruiz stated is a member of the LAPD clergy team.  What this Highland Park home owner was doing was charging $ 800.00 per. month to reside in converted tool sheds. Also Ms. Ruiz used her deceased mother' disability placard on her vehicle for more than a year after her mother died. Mr. Ruiz also stated that her part time employer advised her to use this placard.  To add insult Mr. Ruiz  told elderly neighbors that one of her undocumented renters ( failed to inform elderly neighbors that the female in question was undocumented ) was a very good person and they should hire her to assist them with care giving duties. The elderly couple and within one week this undocumented female stole money and jewelry from the elderly couple.

This female whom the Mayor wants to  again become another member of the LAPD Police Commission should not be approved by the LA City Council Members.

Will LAPD Deputy Chief Michael Downing become the Acting Chief??

The Los Angeles Times and an earlier poster here at Mayor Sam, are reporting that LAPD Deputy Chief Michael Downing has been approached by the Police Commission about assuming the role of "Acting Police Chief", between the end of Chief Bill Bratton's reign and the swearing in of the new Police Chief.

According to the Times, Downing, who runs the department’s counter-terrorism bureau, would be a logical choice since he was the only one of the Bratton’s deputy and assistant chiefs who did not apply for the top post. Downing did not respond immediately to an e-mail seeking comment.

Look for an announcement regarding the three finalist, sometime this afternoon.
