Will LAPD Deputy Chief Michael Downing become the Acting Chief??
LAPD Deputy Chief for Counter-Terrorism, Michael DowningThe Los Angeles Times and an earlier poster here at Mayor Sam, are reporting that LAPD Deputy Chief Michael Downing has been approached by the Police Commission about assuming the role of "Acting Police Chief", between the end of Chief Bill Bratton's reign and the swearing in of the new Police Chief.
According to the Times, Downing, who runs the department’s counter-terrorism bureau, would be a logical choice since he was the only one of the Bratton’s deputy and assistant chiefs who did not apply for the top post. Downing did not respond immediately to an e-mail seeking comment.
Look for an announcement regarding the three finalist, sometime this afternoon.

Business rule of thumb: Never take an acting anything. Because you will never be seen as anything other than an acting anything if you do.
Deputy Cheif Downing is a great man. Rank and file really like him cause he treats them with respect. Greta choice for interim chief.
So, the "Little Man" finally gets to surpass his daddy...even if it is just interim Chief, I'm sure he'll take what he can get. There is a reason he was not considered for the real job...
the man is a want a be...not repected by others treats people like dirt...thinks he came up with all the ideas in the world. The only original idea he ever had was flushed down a toliet in the morning..folks in DC think he is a joke when it come to terrorism...he actually was unable to get into a DHS program good choice to set the department back in only to weeks.
