NBC To Sell Telemundo

Well...part of it anyway. Was Mirthala-gate too much for them?

The San Fernando Valley Business Journal reports that the Peacock Network plans to sell it's second local, Burbank based Telemundo station, KWHY Channel 22 as well as another Telemundo outlet in Puerto Rico in order to raise cash to buy the Oxygen women's fare cable network.

And we have a great idea for a TV movie once the sale is final!

The Summer of Love is Officially Over

Once there was a girl who achieved her dream of being a big time television reporter.

First she banged Alex Padilla, Fabian Nunez and probably a few others.

But then she upgraded to the married, sitting Mayor of the second largest city in America. Indeed, she even reported on television that the Mayor was splitting up with his wife because of an affair with another woman. But she forgot to mention she was the other woman.

She was then suspended. And then transfered to the fabulous metropolis of Riverside.

But she failed to show up for her first day of work. And shortly after, her employer said she was no longer with the television station.

And in the meantime, the Mayor is probably looking for a new squeeze in time for the holidays.

Man, that really sucks. Just like that woman and this one and this one, anyone who dares screw around with a married elected official is bound to become the butt of many jokes and only a footnote in history. But hey maybe she can sell the movie rights!

Villar-No-gosa Update for Thursday

Welcome back from your day off.

The details of the Mayor's torrid affair dripped out over the Fourth of July holiday and oh boy is it fun!

First off, what many of our readers have stated is true - Salinas reported on the Mayor's announced breakup with his wife on the June 8th 4:00 p.m. newscast on Telemundo - of course without mentioning that she indeed was the other women.

A number of journalists find this fact quite disturbing. This blogger has already called for her firing based in part on the previous firing of an NBC (the parent company of Telemundo) television reporter who had an affair with her producer.

It gets worse though, ERS News reports that Salinas allegedly lied at least three times to Telemundo management that she was not having an affair with the Mayor. High level NBC-Telemundo executives met Wednesday to discuss the network's options with regard to Salinas.

Luke Ford - the blogger who first broke the story that the Mayor's marriage was in trouble - picks up on the part of an LA Times story that has the Mayor - just four months after his election in 2005 - wandering into the lobby of the Sherman Oaks condominium where Salinas lives (you mean she doesn't live in CD 14?) with vino and take-out food (probably El Pollo Loco right Red Spot?) in hand. A neighbor was shocked to see the Mayor alone, without security and simply introducing himself as "Antonio." It doesn't get any more delicious than this! The Mayor of the 2nd largest city in the US sneaking around late at night for a booty call without any bodyguards in view. How incredibly reckless.

By the way, back in January some of our readers were telling you the Mayor's girlfriend was Mirthala. And some of you just wouldn't believe it (or were under orders to spin it away).

The story has jumped the pond! Though the mayor has denied the coming birth of an "anchor baby" a British blog wonders if reporters didn't go far enough in asking the Mayor if Ms. Salinas is not pregnant now, was she ever, and did she have an abortion? I guess it depends on what the meaning of the word is is. The Guardian Unlimited also picks up on the story.

An anonymous female lobbyist explains how media outlets and lobbying groups get an audience with Mayor V.

Independent Sources details the makeover Salinas had that might have helped her capture the Mayor's attention; going from a pretty bookworm look to a hot cheerleader style.

Flap says the Mayor's career is over.

On the other hand - since Rudy Giuliani, Gavin Newsom and President Clinton blazed a trail for Tony Villar, the Sacramento Bee says he may still be safe in his 2010 gubernatorial bid.

Tabloid Baby says the Mayor was a no-show at the Palisades Fourth of July parade, though he was scheduled to appear. (Were Garcetti, Zine and Rosendahl there in chaps?)

Steve Lopez confirms something I told Kevin James when I appeared on his program: Hispanic women are going to abandon the Mayor for his lustful cheating.

And finally, though everyone else has an opinion on the Mayor's sex scandal, blogger and Mayoral candidate Walter Moore does not. Walter has plenty of other reasons to tag the Mayor's performance as "terrible."

More Mirth for Mirthala, This Time With Fabian! (But You Knew That)

This is not news despite what some westside bloggers and news sites may think. We had it here first. Looks like Mirthala has a thing for rising star Latino politicians.

I think its time NBC considered getting rid of this "journalist" before they become a laughing stock.

NBC did however fire married reporter Kyung Lah for "gross misconduct" who had an affair with a producer at the station. The situation was so scandalous it apparently warranted the firing of two additional staffers.

As one of our readers asked, is it not gross misconduct if you are a reporter covering a political beat to sleep with at least two of the politicians you are charged with covering?

I would suspect the people who were fired may feel the same way.

And the consequences Mirthala has to face for her decision are numerous. No matter how great a reporter she is, no matter that she won "Women of the Year" in 1999, forget that she once worked on an NBC news network program - she will be a permanent butt to jokes, snickers and giggles and always been known as Antonio Villaraigosa's girlfriend.

Finally, reports are saying that rumors that the Mayor and Salinas are expecting an "anchor baby" are false. Our source says don't be so sure just yet. I'd like to think the Mayor and Mirthala aren't that reckless but its tough to do so given the turn of events.
