The details of the Mayor's torrid affair dripped out over the Fourth of July holiday and oh boy is it fun!
First off, what many of our readers have stated is true - Salinas reported on the Mayor's announced breakup with his wife on the June 8th 4:00 p.m. newscast on Telemundo - of course without mentioning that she indeed was the other women.
A number of journalists find this fact quite disturbing. This blogger has already called for her firing based in part on the previous firing of an NBC (the parent company of Telemundo) television reporter who had an affair with her producer.
It gets worse though, ERS News reports that Salinas allegedly lied at least three times to Telemundo management that she was not having an affair with the Mayor. High level NBC-Telemundo executives met Wednesday to discuss the network's options with regard to Salinas.
Luke Ford - the blogger who first broke the story that the Mayor's marriage was in trouble - picks up on the part of an LA Times story that has the Mayor - just four months after his election in 2005 - wandering into the lobby of the Sherman Oaks condominium where Salinas lives (you mean she doesn't live in CD 14?) with vino and take-out food (probably El Pollo Loco right Red Spot?) in hand. A neighbor was shocked to see the Mayor alone, without security and simply introducing himself as "Antonio." It doesn't get any more delicious than this! The Mayor of the 2nd largest city in the US sneaking around late at night for a booty call without any bodyguards in view. How incredibly reckless.
By the way, back in January some of our readers were telling you the Mayor's girlfriend was Mirthala. And some of you just wouldn't believe it (or were under orders to spin it away).

The story has jumped the pond! Though the mayor has denied the coming birth of an "anchor baby" a British blog wonders if reporters didn't go far enough in asking the Mayor if Ms. Salinas is not pregnant now, was she ever, and did she have an abortion? I guess it depends on what the meaning of the word is is. The Guardian Unlimited also picks up on the story.
An anonymous female lobbyist explains how media outlets and lobbying groups get an audience with Mayor V.
Independent Sources details the makeover Salinas had that might have helped her capture the Mayor's attention; going from a pretty bookworm look to a hot cheerleader style.
Flap says the Mayor's career is over.
On the other hand - since Rudy Giuliani, Gavin Newsom and President Clinton blazed a trail for Tony Villar, the Sacramento Bee says he may still be safe in his 2010 gubernatorial bid.
Tabloid Baby says the Mayor was a no-show at the Palisades Fourth of July parade, though he was scheduled to appear. (Were Garcetti, Zine and Rosendahl there in chaps?)
Steve Lopez confirms something I told Kevin James when I appeared on his program: Hispanic women are going to abandon the Mayor for his lustful cheating.
And finally, though everyone else has an opinion on the Mayor's sex scandal, blogger and Mayoral candidate Walter Moore does not. Walter has plenty of other reasons to tag the Mayor's performance as "terrible."

2) Why no mention of Villar's other alleged sancha - "He's now dating one of the members of his LAPD protective detail."
I am the person who posted that comment back in January. It was a pretty well known thing back then by anyone who knew Salinas.
Now, the big question, what will Telemundo/NBC do?

Most politicians who have affairs whether they are Republican (Rudy), Democart (Cisneros), White (Clinton), Black (Jesse), Latino (Antonio) or even gay (McGreevy) are pretty much scumbags even before they had their affairs. Their affairs are just another sympton of their psychosis that shows them to be mostly poor decision makers on personal matters whether its getting favors in the Oval Office, putting up your girlfriend in a city apartment (Bernard Kerik), giving your boyfriend a state job or tomcatting around a condo complex late at night.
Quite frankly these guys like Antonio, Clinton and Rudy are sociopaths. Charming, seductive and don't give a shit about anyone else.

Gee, I don't mean to be "mean" or anything but, to be perfectly honest, while this IS a terrible situation for the wife and the family, I must point out that it is very likely this woman has known for a very long time what she was married to. After a certain point in time, sympathy for women who are willing to live with and put up with scummy men, whether cheaters, beaters, whatever, begins to wane!
When they were campaigning together she certainly was somewhat complicit in his lies, now, wasn't she?

Seems Tony may have sacrificed his baby for his career. Corina knew and tolerated Tony's adultery for almost their entire marriage, but this pregnancy was the last straw.
Salinas did not want to have an abortion and Tony was pushed into a corner and had no choice but to admit to an affair.
Here's a story to illustrate the depth of Tony Villar's lack of morals!
Yesterday I was listening to one of the local talk shows and of course the topic was entirely about the lack of ethics and morals of MAV.
One of the callers had a great story: He said that last year a volunteer group in the Valley had a 6 month project devoted to collecting donations of body armor, boots, and various supplies and gifts for our soldiers in Iraq. When they finally reached the 500,000 mark, the media wanted to do a story on their patriotism. The caller happened to be there on the day that the press arrived. He said that shortly after the cameras were set up, an entourage arrived and out came the Mayor! The caller said that the mayor immediately rushed for the cameras and started talking like he had been working with these volunteers from the inception of the project! In fact, the caller said, the mayor had never even heard about the project!
And, here's the good part: When the tv reporter started to interview the woman who was spearheading the project, MAV stood so close to her the whole time that he looked like a siamese twin! The caller said MAV would NOT leave her side until the cameras turned off.
And then, you guessed, it he RAN back to his SUV and driver...and sped off!
This caller was so disturbed about MAV's unsconsionable actions!!!
I'm telling you...Tony Villar is an ASSHOLE!

a local Los Angeles television station (KTLA) floated the rumor this morning (on their 6a newscast) that Salinas may be pregnant.
Didn't anyone notice Tony's body language when he said,"She'not pregnant". He lowered his head and looked down (presumably at his feet) and did not give any eye contact whatsoever to the media. If you ready body language, he's lying about her pregnancy.
Democratic mayor: Personal issues don’t matter

L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has confirmed he had an affair with a TV reporter, but the up-and-coming Democrat says his personal life shouldn’t matter provided he performs his job. (The mayor also announced he’s getting a divorce after 20 years of marriage.)
That’s the same logic cheating politicians – both Republicans and Democrats – have tried using for years, and it is true that voters are caring less – unfortunately – about the morals of their elected leaders.
However, Villaraigosa is wrong – personal issues do matter.
Someone who cannot remain honest and loyal to their wife and family shouldn’t be entrusted with a public office. If a politician can lie to their wife of all people and break the sacred bonds of marriage, little will stop them from breaking the oath of office.
Nobody is perfect and everyone makes mistakes, but there are certain things – namely the integrity of our American democracy – that shouldn’t be compromised.

AV has never said that his affair(s) was wrong, that he's sorry for how he hurt Corina, made life worse for his kids, or made any mistakes.

Reporting on the breakup of a marriage when YOU are the other woman is not the "highest journalistic integrity." Sleeping with multiple elected officials while reporting on them is CLEARLY not a sign of integrity.
Being able to speak to Salinas' journalistic integrity straight-faced to the public shows why there is a problem.
The problem is trust. If he will say anything about anyone for his own self interest, he cannot be trusted to fairly lead the city.
It brings to mind "you're doing a heck of a job, Brownie" from Bush when New Orleans was clearly devasted and the job being done was CLEARLY not good to anyone else.
When the mayor says "person X is the right person for job Y," how could anyone believe him? The answer: They can't, and thats the problem.

Villaraigosa's rise or fall in the political arena should be dictated by the fact that he's not all that good a mayor. The city's core problems are unchanged, police brutality continues, he spent a couple years and most of his political capital trying to take control of the school system and only succeeded because he bought the school board election. He governs by making sure he's on camera everywhere, but substantively there's little to boast about.
When one chooses to commit adultry in any case, let alone as a public servant, it means that the risks of playing outside the marriage were more important than the office itsself. I am completely unsympathetic. I don't want him representing me or my party. Dump all the dirt off the Democratic label and do it publically.
It really takes the cake, crap like this. We live in a divorce-happy society. Being divorced carries far less styma than being an adulterer, it is FAR less damaging to one's career, and not so bad visually, when one is representing a political party. There were many ethic violations in Antonio’s 2005 campaign. He’s was using city staff to help with his campaign. He begged businesses in Boyle Heights to use their phones for phone banking yesterday. Ummmm…wonder if the press ever jumped on that story. Antonio doesn’t want to be labeled “Latino mayor” yet he had his phone bankers yesterday calling Latino voters stating he would be the 1st Latino mayor. The more intelligent Latinos would hung up the phone on them.

Mayor’s girlfriend is placed on leave
Telemundo took the action while it investigates whether anchor Mirthala Salinas breached journalistic ethics by having a relationship with Antonio Villaraigosa.

Spanish-language broadcaster Telemundo placed newscaster Mirthala Salinas on leave today while it conducts an internal investigation into whether she breached journalistic ethics by having a relationship with someone she covered: Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
"As we have stated, we are committed to journalistic excellence," said Manuel Abud, general manager of KVEA Channel 52. "Given the seriousness of the allegations that have been made, we have decided to conduct an internal review of the decisions and events that led us to where we are today. In the meantime, Salinas has been placed on a leave of absence from her duties pending this review.
"We will conduct this investigation with the utmost respect to personal privacy and journalistic standards."
Salinas, 35, declined to comment through a spokesperson. A spokesman for Villaraigosa said the mayor would have no comment at this time.
Telemundo executives have come under intense pressure to discipline Salinas after she and Villaraigosa acknowledged this week they had been involved in a relationship dating back more than a year. The mayor separated from Corina Villaraigosa, his wife of 20 years, early last month.
During at least part of their time together, Salinas was assigned to the "political beat," in which she covered the mayor on trips to New York and Sacramento. On the night he announced the separation from his wife, Salinas was the Channel 52 anchor who delivered the news.
Salinas was missing from her anchor chair on the 6 p.m. newscast the last two nights, but Telemundo officials would not say why. One Telemundo source familiar with the situation said station executives had not spoken to her because she had taken a couple of days off.
A source affiliated with Telemundo said that news executives were upset with Salinas for using an outside public relations representative and issuing a statement Tuesday about her relationship with the mayor without first running it by her bosses. One producer found out about her statement when it was reported on CNN, the source said.
Does anyone know WHO is the PR consultant Ms. Salinas retained? There might be some interesting connections there! Believe me, there are people who want to cultivate the Mayor's appreciation that may be volunteering services to help he through this difficult time.
Same thing happened to the mayor in San Jose, Ron Gonzales, and that was the beginning of his end...although he did marry the other woman.
Salinas could have hired Joe Cerrell who is a guru political pr man. Or Englander who does a lot of pr crisis. She shouldn't waste her time. Its women like this who have a name, money and the spotlight and instead of choosing to do good for the youth or women on various issues they are selfish and think of themselves. Trust me if Salinas was involved in a major charity or had done work helping at risk youth people wouldn't be bashing her so badly. AV has his own baggage.

I am scared to report this, but it runs in the family for the mayor of Los Angeles. His sister married a man she knew that was dying, took his money and had a boy toy on the side. When the husband dies after 6 months of marriage, she moved into his million dollar mansion in Hacienda Heights, paid off her $80,000 debts with his money, then moved her boy toy in. Investigate and see. She works for a non-profit in Los Angeles
