Los Angeles Politics Hotsheet for Wednesday

Gloria Allred to take over for Heath Ledger in next Batman movie.
When the liberal blogs are questioning what's behind the Gloria Allred-Jerry Brown attempt to smear Meg Whitman you know that there's more than a whiff of scandal in the air.  Gloria Allred, who probably loves the camera even more than Antonio Villaraigosa, holds another press conference with a newly made over Nicky Cruz who is fresh off reports of a big payoff.  Were Gloria not an attention-whore and a longtime Democratic Party activist she would have referred Cruz to an immigration/labor attorney who would have handled Cruz's case privately and ethically without the attendant Super Glo circus. The way this has unfolded with Glo's patented staged press conferences and shrill cable TV appearances clearly indicates this a coordinated effort to boost the Brown campaign.

Los Angeles Politics Hotsheet for Friday

Nearly 70 cows were injured or killed when a cattle truck overturned on the 10 Freeway in Redlands Thursday afternoon. The LA Times reports the truck, which was carrying over 150 heads of cattle, overturned about 2:30 p.m. near the University Street exit. No cows got loose and no humans were injured in the wreck.

If you want to know if the City is going to close your favorite medical marijuana dispensary in June the LA Times has a map for you to check out. Nearly 450 pot shops will close under a new City law.

Billboards not jobs are apparently the main issue in Los Angeles. Handwringing over grandfathered supergraphics permitted on LA Live and the Ritz-Marriott Hotel downtown at CurbedLA. However, check out some nifty pro-AEG spin from a bloggin' commenter.

Always classy Ugly Betty Pleasant gets a woody over Bernard Parks again. Parks was late to the DWP vote and Betty thinks that would have made a difference. However let her lover boy Mark Ridley Thomas spend like a drunken sailor and Betty is silent.

This Saturday is Fire Service Recognition Day. Many local fire stations in Los Angeles are holding open houses. Click here for more info and show up to thank our first responders.

Open Thread for Wednesday

Pix from the LA Times

Here are a few topics of interest to get you started:

Despite the best efforts of Steve Lopez, Mayor V still refuses to debate anyone before the March 3rd election!

Those pesky supergraphic building wrap ads just keep popping up! The City has imposed a fine of $2500 per month for those is violation but when the rental rate for displaying the ads can reach $100,000 per month, $2500 is a bargain trade-off!

While everyone is up in arms about Measure B, the DWP has quietly made a tentative deal to purchase 100MW of geothermal power from Mexico's Cerro Prieto geothermal generating station. In addition, Sempra Energy is on track to purchase 250MW of power from the La Rumorosa wind power project being constructed in this near-border town east of Tijuana. Now if those silly drug lords would just stop killing everybody.

There you go, the rest of this thread is up to you...behave yourself companeros!
