By the way Gloria Allred told Geraldo Rivera she has never worked for Jerry Brown. Turns out that's apparently a lie.
Remember, Antonio Villaraigosa's political team is running Jerry's campaign. Why would you expect anything different?
Who ever thought the DWP would be a bad thing for any LA politician? In his address fraud case, the most damning evidence against Councilman Richard Alarcon may be water and power bills that show minimal activity at the Panorama City home where Alarcon claimed residence in order to represent the 7th District.
Because they are the biggest threat facing Los Angeles (at least according to billboard wackos) the City Clowncil spent a whole bunch of time and your money banning supergraphics in Hollywood. That's Hollywood folks where tourists come to see them not Toluca Lake or Valley Village.
Once again a sign of perhaps enlightenment at lefty blog LAist - they're dubious of an effort by the City Clowncil to "help" restaurants compete against food trucks. LA's mostly rotten restaurants need to realize the success of the food trucks comes from the fact that they are meeting a market demand.
And finally here's something for Valley Doll to gag over. Blogger Tara is promoting "Disney Princess" wedding dresses because yes we need to extend everything Disney to the most memorable of moments, including weddings (gay or straight).

If it were a coordinated effort, Nikki would have had better representation. If there were coordination you would have had Tomas Saenz front and center and MALDEF filing a class action suit on behalf of undocumented maids.
Brown has run an excellent campaign thus far - on this alone he trumps Meg and earns my vote. From a purely business perspective, Brown has been the tight fisted CEO while Meg is the free spending liberal. The bottom line in campaign business is cost per vote. Unless Brown drops over $100 million in the next month, he out does Meg by more than 6 to 1.
This is just an Allred publicity stunt. If there were coordination, it would have been handled much more professionally and Meg would be apologizing - again.
Is it possible that Jerry Brown's campaign have misunderestimated the impact of Nicky Diaz on the election? Clearly the left wingnuts were dribbling with glee at the prospect of alienating Latino support for Whitman with the shocking revelation that Meg heartlessly fired the doe-eyed diminutive domestic, but what is the reaction from Latinos? Crickets.
Where's the Latino community on this? Are they rushing to Gloria Allreds office with fistfuls of dollars to give Nicky the "help" she was denied from Whitman? No.
Or maybe they've heard the rumors that Nicky doesn't need any help from them because she's been set up for a life of luxury in Mexico as reported elsewhere?
This has backfired on Brown's campaign. His handlers are so naive not to know there are thousands of Latinos in CA that support Arizona and oppose the DReam Act. Brown completely ignored that group of Latinos. Many who were on the fence are fed up with Gloria Allred's circus they have moved to the Whitman camp. Because Brown supports the Dream Act shows he's another whussy, scared politician who won't go after the illegals. Read the Pew Hispanic poll of yesterday. The Latinos aren't going out to vote in Nov.
A Pew Hispanic Center poll out yesterday had bad news for Democrats counting on amnesty and Arizona to bail them out this November: Hispanics don't seem that interested in voting and aren't primarily motivated by immigration. While Hispanics favor Democrats by 65 percent to 22 percent, only 51 percent of registered Hispanic voters say they plan to vote compared to 70 percent of all registered voters. Only 32 percent of registered Latino voters say they have followed the fall campaign "quite a lot" compared to 50 percent of all registered voters. Only 28 percent of Latino Democrats have followed the election that closely compared to 44 percent of Hispanic Republicans
Michael LAist is correct that the media has turned on Gloria Allred. Contra Costa Times is working on an investigation of Gloria that could be career ending.
Gloria is the devil incarnate, no matter what side you're on.
Many media outlets in L.A. only refer to her as "the plaintiff's attorney" in her cases because she's such a media whore.
Bottom line: The Latinos are not coming out in this election. So says every poll. And my homies say that she reflects poorly on their strong work ethic. Crying over $23 per hour for 15 hours a week?

yeah, it's really back fired on the Brown campaign. He's only up by 5-7 pts. If Gloria tries this again, Brown may only be up by 10 pts.
The real scandal here is that Mug Whitman has spent almost $140 million so far and will most likely end up spending north of $160 million before this election is over.
The only jobs she's created have been overpaid campaign advisors. Those jobs will be over on November 3rd and those clowns will have another losing effort under their belt.
Say what you want about Brown, but at least he's frugal and tight with a buck, and that's what this state needs right now.

Allred's on the ropes. This morning on Peter Tilden's show, on the question about who is paying her fees, Allred categorically stated that "no third party is paying me to represent Nicky." Allred also denied that she was working 'Pro bono.'
Think about that for a minute. She's not working for free, and no 3rd party is paying her, so only 'poor Nicky' can be paying her. With what? Clearly Allred brokered the Univision/Puerto Vallarta deal, the money goes to Nicky and Gloria gets paid by Nicky.
Why are reporters and talk show hosts so slow to put all this together?

trojan 2002 - Allred cannot "just come out and say how the case came about" because if she did it would be clear that Nicky's being paid very nicely by fat cat Jerry supporters. You should do a little digging into which Latino tv stations have also donated to Jerry Brown's campaign. You might find your explanation there. I don't know if the Mexican reality tv show rumor is true, but it would explain a lot. I guess we will find out 6 months after the election when it's all too late and noone will give a damn anyway.
Whitman only paid Nicky $23/hour for only 15 hours/ week to avoid making her a full-time employee and giving her benefits. In fact she was CHEAP as attested to by other employees.
That $23/hour also included according to Nicky's statements work that was OFF the clock, the hourly fee was meant to cover that while staying below the 15/hours/ week min. to avoid being kicked into full time.
So this is a billionaire who played games with salary to avoid paying an illegal full-time benefits.
WHAT benefits DID Nicky get while working for Whitman?
Did we the taxpayers have to pay her healthcare? An employee who only makes $23/hour for 15 hours would still qualify for MediCal probably and that's not enough to buy health insurance. Did Meg turn a blind eye to an illegal employee collecting federal benefits?
I do not condone Nicky being here illegally and her stealing Social Security ID numbers is a felony. Those who trivialize such ID theft on top of trying to turn Nicky into the Latino Rosa Parks have way miscalculated how strongly Americans feel about illegal immigrants' sense of entitlement.
But this is about Meg and her being unfit to hold high office. She is a hypocrite who would hold other employers guilty for the same thing, and in her case, she had close daily contact with Nicky, while many have hundreds of employees they don't know personally yet would still be held more accountable.
Meg also pandered ONLY to the cop and firefighter unions on exempting them from pension revsions to get their endorsements, including the already Republican-skewing and led PPL. The woman is an opportunist who does anything to get what she wants.
A lot of budding neo-chauvinists who came from the suburbs in the 1980's or later were still shaking the Republican hayseed out of their hair when they first heard of Gloria Allred. Those people may now remember her as being a bit shrill.
But Gloria Allred was shrill, because the times demanded it. She wasn't running around in a swimsuit looking for TV jobs to later call herself a feminist. No, she took tough stances then that are more commonplace now: she nearly single-handedly invented the concept of palimony, she won cases against thousands of deadbeat dads, she even represented Nicole Brown Simpson's family. This representation is entirely consistent with her career.
Neo-chauvinists who would like to turn the clock back to 1960 and recreate the Mad Men life don't like Gloria Allred much, no; they never did, they never will. But it's time for Zach et al. to evolve a little from their old misconceptions.

You could dig up Ledger's corpse, paint it up again, and put it into the next Batman movie, and it wouldn't begin to be as morally and ethically frightening as the fact that this leftover "women as victims only" 70s-leftover hag has a public microphone, and makes a HUGE living further exploiting people who already, in some cases, have been exploited by others.
Someone put a fork in Gloria, please. She no longer serves any legitimate purpose except to embarrass real professional women, who can and do speak for themselves now.

During public comment a constituent said it took until 10:15 a.m. for council to have a quorum. A second constituent said Council member Reyes was on the voting board, but Council member Reyes was not present in chambers.
Council members need to obey their own Council Rules and conduct Roll Call at 10:00 a.m., not at 10:15 a.m.

Allred was everything that the Mulholland TerrorIst said she was. Trouble is she's really more of a waxworks dummy these days. "Housekeepers are people too" was the line delivered by the lying illegal is her latest press conference, where she looked a little less disheveled thanks to a celebrity makeover that Allred was obviously unable to prevent. Just like a lottery winner who goes crazy spending money, Diaz can't wait to spend the cash she's been given, and as each hour passes, the truth about the arrangement Allred made with Univision is more likely to become known.
Jerry's blown his wad a little prematurely with Nicky, as the backlash will now hurt him more than the upset hurts Meg. Americans don't like being made fools of, and Gloria's done it one time too many. Remember the Schwarzenegger groping scandal? That was another Allred pre-election special. That case was as empty and slimy as this one.
I am still trying to understand what is the reason for calling a press conferences when the only thing alleged to date is a claim for unpaid wages. Why would an unpaid wage claim be a reason for a press conference? File the case and let the process go forward.

This shows how ridiculous this whole illegal maid incident is. Nicky Diaz, the felon committed I count at least 5 felonies. Falsifying documents, perjury, fake driver's license, illegal in country etc. When does a known felon have the audacity to sue for back wages from a job she knowingly falsified the documents to get. Plus she wants milage paid for going on errands. She got a driver's license again committed a felony by falsifying someone else's idenitity. This is what we should be talking about, how illegals committ felonies and then want to be paid off
