Silly Season Rules Now in Effect

With the election just two weeks to go, and all kinds of tomfoolery going on, it's that time again.

Just like no silly string in Hollywood around Halloween time, no more "anonymous" comments until the election is over. While we really enjoy some of the crazy stuff some of you try to submit (and can weed out the more notorious posters) we know some of the campaigns and others are all set to play reindeer games on MayorSam.

So to keep it nice and make MY job easier, you'll have to comment with a Google account from here on out. Yea, it cuts down the comments but maybe some of you can come up with some brilliant stuff that you actually want to claim ownership to?

Anonymousa is Back!

Sometime ago, we changed our comment policy to require a Google or other log-in in order to post comments here on MayorSam.

As most can see, that has killed comments, one of the best parts of this blog historically.

Therefore, anonymous, un-logged in comments are back.

There's a few caveats though. Comments will be moderated. And I will be the only MayorSam staffer approving comments. Sometimes, there may be delays if I can't get to it right away. And I will be very tough on what I approve. However, reasoned snarkiness will always win the day.

That being said, we still prefer you post comments under your name, and in most cases, there really isn't any reason you should. I'll also be on the lookout for folks who try to post comments under another name. If you have no problem posting under your name, then you should really log-in. We give you several options to do that. If someone posts anonymously under the name of a real person (i.e. posting as Mayor Villaraigosa and saying "I suck.") that's not going to get approved. However, if for some reason (i.e. you have information that is valid and exposing your true identity could someone get you in trouble), then post as anonymous or under a nickname.

We'll be watching this but hopefully, it gets the dialogue going again.
