Your Villarsalinas lunch break

Yowser! Last night's late-breaking news had the dum-dums buzzing and Roderick, among others in the local blogosphere, reacting.

According to an NBC 4 report filed by Ana Garcia, Telemundo reporter Mirthala Salinas was granted exclusive, unprecedented access to Mayor Villaraigosa during a visit to New York in March 2006.

As if that wasn’t enough to chew on, Garcia also reveals that there was more to the Mayor’s notorious jet ride to Rosa Parks’ funeral than met the eye. Kevin explains:

[According to Garcia]…the November 2005 evening when Villaraigosa was famously spotted with a bottle of wine at [Salinas’] Valley apartment was the same night of his controversial flight to the Rosa Parks funeral on the Ameriquest corporate jet.

So, we finally learn what put the squeeze on his schedule that night—no pun intended. It should be noted, however, that the proximity to Van Nuys from Salinas’ Sherman Oaks condo does earn the Mayor points for reducing his carbon footprint—and, if I learn that he carpooled to the airport after the tryst, I’ll completely forgive his use of non-commercial aircraft.

In other Villarsalinas news today, Eric Longabardi of ERSNews claims the flames of passion burn strong (or at a minimum, the two remain on speaking terms). Citing anonymous sources, Longabardi says that the Mayor and Ms. Salinas have met secretly on at least one occasion since all Hell broke loose two weeks ago.

I'm a bit skeptical of this one. What would be the rationale for keeping it under wraps and risking more eye witness reports? If a relationship still exists, wouldn't bringing it out of the shadows only help to rebuild his image at this point?

That said, I’ll continue to keep an eye on this one, because now, according to ERS, the security detail is involved. That's your money, dum-dums.

Well, confusion reigns! I never said 1:21 was correct or incorrect about anything. Are you referring to the statement about the two not being together? Post at 1:46 made no such reference. Nor did it call the 1:21 poster anything - it did refer, quite humorously, to many references here that Villar had gone running off for tutelage in how to slide out of this from Bill and Hillary's own masters of deception. Your response is, to be kind, quite strange ... so I guess you may be the one looking rather like an ignorant ass right about now... and since you have no idea what posts are mine, how can I be looking MORE AND MORE like anything to you?

A statewide poll by a leading Democratic pollster of potential Democratic gubernatorial candidates in April suggests that Villaraigosa, although widely seen as a formidable force in a 2010 gubernatorial race, is hardly unstoppable. The poll showed that in a potential gubernatorial field, Jerry Brown, a former governor, leads the pack with 23 percentage points, followed by a tie between Newsom and Villaraigosa at 12 points and former state Controller Steve Westly next at 11 points.
But if Brown, now California's attorney general, decides not to run, the poll showed that Westly and Newsom tied at 15 points, followed by Villaraigosa in third place with 13.
The bottom line: With political rivals knocking at his door, another shocking episode of "Amor Prohibido" could turn the Los Angeles mayor's once-bright political future into a telenovela called "Mi Vida Loca

Antonio Villaraigosa's Affair - Horndog Mayor Has Hillary Clinton In A Bind - RadarOnline

It isn't only Antonio Villaraigosa's political rivals who are gleeful over the Los Angeles mayor's extramarital exploits. Democratic presidential hopefuls not named Hillary Clinton are snickering at how one of the party frontrunner's most coveted supporters has suddenly become a potential embarrassment.

Villaraigosa, who serves as one of four national co-chairmen of Clinton's campaign, admitted earlier this week that he's been having an affair with Telemundo news anchor Mirthala Salinas. Villaraigosa's wife Corina—the two merged their last names, Villar and Raigosa, when they married in 1987—announced their separation last month. (Salinas has been pulled off of the air while her bosses look into whether she violated the station's ethics rules.)

A rising star in the Democratic party, Villaraigosa's endorsement had been heavily courted by other candidates, especially New Mexico governor Bill Richardson, the only Hispanic in the race. "They're probably pretty relieved now that they didn't win that one," laughs an insider from another campaign.

Villaraigosa's revelation leaves Clinton in a bind, says the insider. "They want people to forget all the ethical, marital partisan wars that were being waged" during Bill Clinton's time in office, and "this is exactly the type of scandal that's going to remind people of that." On the other hand, "it would be very difficult for them to walk away from someone who's widely viewed as one of the most influential Hispanic politicians in the country."

"They're highly motivated to find a way to justify keeping him," agrees a strategist from another campaign. "Where they are going to find themselves in a tough situation is if Mrs. Villaraigosa goes to the mat the way [Rudy] Giuliani's wife did. If she gets militant about the divorce, they are going to be in an incredibly awkward situation."

For now, Clinton's best response is probably to do nothing, says a former Democratic consultant. "The Clintons don't stick with people who become liabilities, but to get rid of him would invite comparisons they don't want," he says. "Bottom line, she's a bigger punchline if she throws him off."

Oprah Winfrey to Raise Money for Obama....CHICAGO (AP) - Forget the girl of YouTube videos. The real Obama girl is doing her part for the candidate. Talk show host Oprah Winfrey plans to hold a Sept. 8 fundraiser for Democratic hopeful Barack Obama at her palatial estate near Santa Barbara, Calif., according to campaign spokesman Dan Pfeiffer.

Obama has raised more than $58 million for his White House bid. Forbes magazine estimates that Winfrey, the Chicago-based host who boasts a lot more, including a magazine, is worth $1.5 billion.

Obama already enjoys the support of Hollywood moguls like David Geffen and Jeffrey Katzenberg, and Winfrey's fundraiser is another chance for him to tap into money in California, which was his top donor state from April through June with a total take of $4.2 million.

ERSNews has learned that Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and his "girlfriend" Mirthala Salinas have secretly met since the scandal broke nearly two weeks ago. The most recent meeting taking place late last week. The meeting involved the Mayor with his city provided security detail in tow. Multiple sources have confirmed to ERSNews that the secret meeting in fact took place.

Mayor Villaraigosa for the past two weeks has been attempting to recover from the revelation of a "personal relationship" with Telemundo political reporter and anchor Mirthala Salinas for at least a year and half. The relationship is believed to have played a part in his separation and now pending divorce from his wife Corina. New details about their secret relationship continue to trickle out every day since the story broke.

As for Salinas, she was placed on leave while her station Telemundo KVEA in Los Angeles investigates whether or not Salinas violated ethical standards by dating the Mayor and other notable politicians while covering them as a journalist.

ERSNews first revealed that the Mayor was not the first major California politician Salinas dated while covering the news in recent years. Her list of political boyfriends seems to be a who’s-who’s of Hispanic politicians in the state. Her relationship with Speaker of the California Assembly Fabian Nunez occurred in 2003 and 2004. Other media outlets have reported other notable politicians Ms. Salinas dated prior to the Mayor.

The Mayor first acknowledged his personal relationship with Salinas publicly in response to inquiries by the Los Angeles Daily News on July 3, 2007. The Daily News had informed the Mayor that it was planning to publish a story about the relationship, which had been rumored across town, but was not confirmed by the mayor or by any media sources independently.

On Thursday of this week ERSNews revealed exclusively that the condo Salinas purchased in Studio City in early 2006 had been bought from a political supporter and campaign contributor who was is the CFO of one of the largest PR/Lobbing firms in Los Angeles. The Mayor since has denied having any knowledge or involvement in the condo sale in response to the ERSNews report.

The condo sale report was widely repeated in the LA local media and brought new questions of possible insider favoritism and perks to the already extensive allegations of questionable journalistic ethics on the part of reporter Salinas. The mayor has repeatedly said Ms. Salinas is a consummate professional journalist. He has denied the charge that he gave any special treatment to Ms. Salinas or her station.

ERSNews has learned that Salinas met with Telemundo’s lawyers last week after returning from being out of town, where she fled to avoid the glare of the media spotlight. She also met with a lawyer last week and has been staying with a friend in Los Angeles, according to sources.

Insiders close to NBC/Telemundo tell ERSNews that the network's human resources department in New York is conducting the investigation into any possible violations of the NBC/GE/Telemundo standards guidelines by Salinas. ERSNews has also learned that during the time Salinas was a political reporter, her personal exploits were brought to the attention of senior management at both Telemundo and its sister station KNBC-TV in Los Angeles.

HERTZBERG SET TO ENDORSE VILLARAIGOSA.

Bob Hertzberg has decided to endorse his one time room-mate, Antonio Villaraigosa. My understanding is that Hahn hasn't been calling Huggy (maybe just once while Antonio has been calling as much as three times a day)and Bob has now cut a deal with Antonio. For Huggy's endorsement Antonio will back and endorse Hertzberg for LA City Attorney in 4 years time. It seems the old partnership will be back in business. Hertzberg's consultant John Shallman and Controller Chick have been putting pressure on Hertzberg to go with Villaraigosa. Mr. Hertzberg, Cynthia Telles, lost in this battle as she was opposed to her husband endorsing Villaraigosa. Of course, another loser is Jack Weiss who has been repaid for supporting Antonio in the usual manner. Antonio has screwed him - everybody knew that Weiss wanted to be the next City Attorney.

This last post is totally incorrect. Hertzberg WANTED Antonio's endorsement for City Attorney but Antonio refused, having already promised it to Jack.

Hertzberg settled to "Chair the Transition" which ended abruptly the moment Antonio raised his hand and took the oath.

The "Partnership" was not back; it was never back. Hertzberg stepped over the line with Antonio and he can never be close to him again.

Between the two, I'd side with Antonio, as all he did was what all men do. Bob on the other hand was ruthless and cruel, and deserves whatever he gets.

Weiss, Bratton and baca are respected across the country for their work on anti-terrorism (for which they let AV take credit today, in deference to his position as Mayor).

It seems to me, that he's the one who's a potential liability in ANY situation right now; he can hardly afford to be making new enemies right now. I agree w/ previous poster: you are just plain wrong.

To quote from earlier threads: Herzberg couldn't win anything more serious than a pastrami-eating contest at Junior's Deli.

And (this is not me, I am repeating): Hertzberg couldn't win a contest of fat Jewish guys jerking off. Indelicate, but no doubt true.

No way in hell Weiss would win city attorney now with his alignment to Antonio. ARe you kidding? The rich Westsiders can't stand either of them anymore and all those recall Jack Weiss signs are getting the word out. They say "Jack Weiss doesn't care about traffic." OUCH The rich crybabies blame WEiss. Then you have the cheating Mayor who is the joke of the nation and Leno keeps going after him highlighting his affair. Huggy Bob has a lot more support and the Latinos will vote him in.

6:29: Keep dreaming. There are a few disorganized losers and whiners and liars trying to take down Weiss, with about as much chance of success as a pimple on an elephant's ass.
Your pastrami-eating jerkoff fattie has less than zero base of support and is stupider than Paris, Britney, Nicole and Posh and Bush all averaged out together.

One minute you call Antonio a dishonest turncoat for going with Hertzberg, than for not going with him -- you're clueless.
