City defends term limits measure before judge
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
July 17, 2007

The city was in court Monday defending a ballot measure that voters approved last year that relaxed term limits for the City Council, from two terms to three.

Superior Court Judge David Yaffe tentatively ruled against the city, but after oral arguments said he would take more time to consider the issue.

Two residents have alleged that the ballot measure violated the state Constitution because it asked voters to cast a single vote on two unrelated issues — term limits and lobbying reforms.

A suit also was brought by different residents last year against the ballot measure but dropped after the measure was overwhelmingly approved by voters in November.

NBC 4 led tonight's late newscast with a five-minute piece by Ana Garcia reporting that Mirthala Salinas got the only one-on-one interview with Mayor Villaraigosa during a trip to New York in March 2006. She was there reporting for Telemundo 52, apparently after their affair had begun. Garcia also said the November 2005 evening when Villaraigosa was famously spotted with a bottle of wine at her Valley apartment was the same night of his controversial flight to the Rosa Parks funeral on the Ameriquest corporate jet. According to Garcia, he had been at the Telemundo studios in Burbank until 6:15 pm, then was with Salinas until catching the flight — undercutting his claim that taking a donor's jet was necessary because of timing. (The mayor later reimbursed Ameriquest, a campaign contributor and his former employer, for the cost of a commercial flight, but not the company's true cost of providing the plane.) In the Channel 4 piece, Garcia said the mayor's office first refused a demand for all of his emails to staff, but later clarified that he text messages but only receives email on his Blackberry.

Report the imposter immediately to Captain Jack Sparrow.

Gotta give credit to Beccerra. he has good community meetings and answers the hard questions even if the audience doesn't like his answers. Probably best public meetings by a politican. He doesn't kiss ass to anyone.

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen (removes hat and bows low with flourish):

So, there is an impostor in the group? Shall we make said impostor walk the plank or shall we leave them be to be thrown under a bus that at this moment is heading in this general direction? I vote for the alternative use of public transportation as opposed to plank walking. What I find most interesting is the choice of person driving the bus, savvy? My sources tell me that it is none other than the chief of staff for a certain CM. Now why would a COS drive a bus when there are so many other things to drive? But let's talk about something else, shall we?

My own mum, ever faithful that she is, likes to attend these sorts of meetings. Gets her out of the house, gets her out of Dad's hair that is rather like my own and gives her a chance to sit and gossip with her lady friends. Mind you, it's not so much the key initiatives that are the subject of discussion, but rather a chance for the commissioners of positions related to those items to be paraded out and shown off for the outstanding citizens that we are to think, if you will, they are.

Zuma lad, if you attend this meeting you will see several pirates from both Blackheart's crew as well as my own in attendance plus my own mum. Beware the pirates from Blackheart's crew for they would have you removed from the building if they could. And just to make sure that you're well seen by ordinary citizens, I'm trying to persuade two of the Five to come, one of which says that they have met you in person. The reason for having two of the Five in the room is to make sure that what is seen and heard is really seen and heard; sort of like a litmus test, savvy? In my opinion, which you may or may not take seriously, it will be more interesting to see WHO shows up and WHAT Mum and her ladies talk about later.

HEY CD 14 WAKE UP!
Why do you think there has been so little outreach on this meeting. You would think it is important to do the outreach. No one knows about this meeting in CD-14. I see that this meeting was scheduled some where else?

The report on NBC was great!
In that same report it showed NBC ask the Mayor for his email transcripts. He refuses to give them up. Whats he hiding?

JOSE HUIZAR knew of his extra marital affair. How could he face Corina and just act stupid... Did you really act surprised when your wife asked you if you knew about this affair? You to are an accompice Jose. What were you doing at the 720 club? You know we know what your up to....its just a matter of time!

What ever happened to a good old-fashioned keelhauling?

Have you forgotten so soon, Captain Jack? Remember hoisting a few lads up the mast as well, and leaving them there for a few days to swing in the breezes?

Not too many busses in the brine these days, but we can always hire Teddy Kennedy to come out and do a little driving.

Hacking is just plain not nice, even if it is into the ballast of a leaky old smelly vessel.

Keelhauling is the vote of the crew.

Good afternoon 4:02pm (tips hat):

Excellent suggestion! Shall we hitch them up by their bras and/or drawers? Or shall we just wrap up their ankles and let the blood flow to the big head as opposed to the small one, savvy? No, I have not forgotten keelhauling. Nor have I forgotten tarring and feathering.

Thank God there is at least one soul among us that has first-rate ideas. Oh bugger, all this thinking is giving me a headache. It's almost 6-ish and that means cocktail hour is in full swing, savvy?

Aye, me own crew hath given a no dissent vote for an old-fashioned keelhauling, tho' we be not part of thine crew!

Methinks them o' the Blackheart crew mayest receive as good as they giveth! Entreat them to leave the Zuma lad alone, lest they be mistook fer drunken sailormen!

Aye, 'tis indeed more blest to giveth than to receiveth, or such as the Good Book stateth!

Yes, we know what he does on Club 720. Many in CD14 know. Some say Huizar shared the newspaper woman with AV. There is talk of Huizar's new "family portrait". Story is since AV is on his way out SOMEWHERE, Huizar is again AV's elected choice for Mayor. We knew Huizar was going somewhere in August, I thought to the national convention, but maybe he is going to replace AV when AV gets appointed to a democratic position to shut him up.

Just conjecture, but food for thought,

When they start warning you and saying to be careful, its because you are getting too close. They are afraid you will undercover more 'dirt. Remember, the 100 or so bloggers who feed you info, use you to get at the graft and illegial behaviours of the Mayor and the City Council.

Looks like the bloggers should send you on a little 'retreat' to let you get more.

I know where paypal is and it works. Everyone should throw in the cost of one drink in Club 720, $10.65 cents each, plus tip. Send $15.00 and be a big spender like the other CM's.

US Conference of Mayors President Palmer, More Than 100 Current and Former Mayors Will Advise Campaign
The Clinton Campaign today announced the endorsement of U.S. Conference of Mayors President Doug Palmer and named him a co-chair of the campaign's newly-formed Mayors Council.

Made up of more than 100 current and former mayors from across the country, the Mayors Council will advise the campaign on policy and outreach. The council represents a broad cross-section of America, including urban, rural and suburban cities and towns that reflect the nation's diversity.

"At a critical time in our history, Hillary Clinton has the strength and experience to lead from her first day in office. She has shown a deep understanding of the issues facing our communities, from improving education to creating new jobs to helping keep our neighborhoods safe, Hillary will be a partner we can count on in the White House."

The following leaders joined Hillary's Mayors Council today.

Hillary's Mayors Council:

8:33: Pretty clever of Hillary's people: they didn't have to make a decision about AV, just dilute his influence by adding more people, including another S Cal Hispanic, some Pulido guy from Santa Ana.

But come the primaries, it's still Antonio who's going to be the star of the Hispanics, and with one or two successes by then, he'll be "back," just hopefully more down-to-earth. His "message" was to learn some humility before he got too inflated with himself, and he seems to be buckling down.

Besides, whether Pulido is from Toledo or Santa Ana, there just ain't no competition from there.
