Patterns

Back in 2003 Councilman Nick Pacheco was challenged by former State Assembly Speaker Antonio Villaraigosa who two years earlier lost the election for Mayor to Jim Hahn.

You may remember that when elected to the City Council Antonio told his constituents he would serve his full four year term and not run for Mayor in 2005. Oh well.

An attorney named Ricardo Torres II paid for a flyer to claiming as one of our readers told me "what many people on the Eastside knew: That Villaraigosa had left a trail of heartbreak amongst the women in his life, and that he treated the women in his life -- like his campaigns for office. More conquest than relationship."

Why is this important? Because it shows the pattern that was set - and how the Mayor's recent troubles are not a surprise.

And it makes me yearn for leaders with character. Is that too much to ask?

That quote says it all:
"A man of little integrity and even less character."

Is it any wonder Antonio - and by extension Los Angeles - has become the butt of Jay Leno's jokes?

Yet Parke Skelton twisted this piece around to say Ricardo was attacking Antonio's family. Do you get it now Parke, has it sunk in. Sometimes when you state facts about a person those facts are so herendous it does appear to be an attack on his family. And maybe that is what it was, but it was an attack on the family by Antonio himself, as his actions have proven.

The sad part is this is not the end of it. Ever wonder why Antonio has no more old friends around him?

Torres promised an attack piece every two weeks until Antonio dropped out of the race, or was caught in a lie - notice how he never denied any of the allegations. But the mailers stopped after Lee Baca (who count s on Parke as his consultant) pulled his endorsement of Nick Pacheco and Gloria Molina, Alex Padilla and Xavier Becerra put pressure on Ricardo to stop.

What else was going to go in to those mailers? Perhaps June from the Venice Room? Do you guys believe this story now?

Yet the news cycle has calmed down for all of our city officials on the hot seat (Rocky, AV, Weiss, etc.)

Does this mean they are out of the woods or is this just the eye of a hurricane?

Will there ever be accountability for poor performance and/or poor character?

It is the eye of the storm.

Antonio lied when he stated that he never had any other affairs. We all know this is not true, especially the press. Reporters are just lining up their ducks, calling out a mayor who has lied is a serious issue and the editors are mulling over all the reporter's facts. There are quite a few other mistresses out there, not just the Korean comissioner. For starters, that is not Corina in the picture on this mailer - as Matea Gold claimed it was. Mayor Sam, let's see if your readers can figure out who it is.

HInt: she has something in common with Richard, Martha Reina's husband at the time of this affair - but it is not Martha.

So what if AV didn't finish out his term as CM before running for Mayor. Alex Padilla recently left his term incomplete to run for Assembly -- AV's previous job -- and it was taken by Alarcon, from the Assembly. It's term limits, stupid: they have to run when they see a seat they can win before they're termed out.

Boy are you a Villar groupie!

Fact: Antonio promised he would serve out his four year term - HE LIED

Fact: Antonio had another term that he could have served before being termed out - HE LIED

Term limits had nothing to do with this - just unadulterated (pardon the pun) ambition and total disregard for the community that elected him.

The 14th District was doing very well under Pacheco, since then it has gone to shit, just take a look at Boyle Heights. Thanks Parke!

Using a word like "treachery" twice in a week does two things.

1) It tells that you are willing to overstate your case to further a point.
2) It makes you an obvious lip-biting Antonio lover who takes it from behind while your head bounces off of the stucco wall.

Soon enough Mayor Pimpjuice will smack you to the side, toss you a 99 cent store handkerchief for you to wipe your face, then step over you as your bleed from your briefs onto your soiled chinos and penny loafers.

I wonder what song you'll listen to while you cry on the drive home. (Probably something by The Cure. Maybe Los Lobos so you can remember how he ravaged you.)

City worker lied about attack, police say..By Richard Winton, Times Staff Writer
July 13, 2007

A former receptionist for Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa was charged Thursday with two misdemeanor counts of filing a false police report for allegedly lying about an incident in which he was stabbed last month.

Authorities said Nestor Lopez falsely claimed he had been attacked by a group of men in downtown Los Angeles. Lopez, who was bloody from stab wounds when he encountered City Hall security guards after the incident about 3:30 a.m. June 3, reported that he was the victim of a robbery attempt.

Dear Mayor Sam,
Leaders of character...I'm afraid there are very few such leaders nowdays...just look at our City Council...where is a John Ferraro type of leader?...I think Councilman Parks is the only councilmember who demonstrates consistent character and isn't afraid to make the right call...yes, I know, he is a little inflexible at times...our last Mayor, demonstrated more character than the current Mayor yet he was not appreciated for it...he held the City together for the good of all, he made a tough call re the COP and, on a personal note, he stuck by his kids at the most important time in their lives...when his wife took leave...yes, he made mistakes...but, he had character...I'm afraid character is difficult to maintain with the intense media scurtiny in LA and the term limits squeeze...so, we are left with those who can govern in this dynamic...not those with character....

AV is an opportunist. CD14 is owned by the Mexican Mafia. AV promised "to take care of the people". He didt. He said he would stay, he lied, he helped his lackie Huizar to take over CD14; the most powerful council of them all. 90042 has 104 'non-profit" organizations. Much more in Boyle Heights and El Sereno. Thats where the AV and Huizar's money comes from. Graft, dishonesty, lack of integrity, etc. The road to government success in California is non-profit organizations, then El Pueblo, then School District, then CD14, then Assemblymen, then Mayor, Govenor, and finally the Federal Government.

Why are the Democrats proud of the way they run the City, State and Federal Governments? At least the Republicans are usually smart enough not to get caught.

Who will I vote for in 2008; no one who has anything to do with the City of Los Angeles, who moved to the California Assembly or State
goverment and who supports anyone they support. I refuse to help the Mexican Mafia run my country. Its bad enough they run California.

We Latinos will need to look into the backgrounds of all politicians before we vote for them, no matter what Nationality or Ethnicity they are. The current bunch of fake leaders are an embarrasment. They are nothing but carpet baggers, trying the same old tricks they did when the took over the Mexican American Student movements in our Universities.

Take Fabian Nunez, where did he come from? San Diego.

The new leftist Union movement brought him into Boyle Heights knowing full well that using the Union's money they knew he could get elected with little opposition or no opposition.

Latinos must get wise to these games.

These politicians: Antonio Villar, Fabian Nunez, Gil Cedillo, Gloria Molina, Kevin De Leon, Mike Hernandez, Ed Reyes, Richard Alatorre, Alex Padilla, Richard Alarcon etc. are left over Mecha Members fo the leftist persuasion (Marxists, Lennists, Troskyites, Maoists you name it), but more importantly they are just plain out and out opportunists. Selling out the community to super-rich developers like Eli Broad.

Let's elect them all out and start again with fresh new office holders that have shown true long term committment for the communities they truly live in.

David Zahniser has a nice article in the Times on some of these people trying to get the AQMD to give the corrupt city of Vernon a green light for their power plant. Martha Escutia, Richard Alatorre, Tome Calderon are all on at the Vernon trough, screwing the community again. And Victor Griego, the guy Pacheco defeated in '99 handing Miguel Contreras his first loss is the lobbyist for these scumbags. All these guys used to do volunteer work for Cesar Chavez, he must be rolling over in his grave seeing what these sell outs have become.

Griego used to be Alatorre's chief of staff and he was also Mike Hernandez best man at his wedding. He is getting some serious money contracts from the MTA and the City of L.A. thanks to Antonio who is also bankrolling Martha Escutia's husband. They are all cut from the same cloth.

Well, 7:13 "lowered expectations" might be the problem- people who want to excuse the mayor on his adulterous behavior, for one thing, are often heard to say, "it's not like he's the only one that does it." But shouldn't there be more expected of an elected official? Especially a bad thing when he should know he will be subjected to scrutiny.

No, the lowered expectations are being applied to people who really should be held higher principles as holders of the public trust so that the "unacceptable behavior" becomes the standard. The bar is effectively lowered here.

It looks like Mrs. V. is the only one who shows any dignity and common sense.

This blog is fine, the variables are the posters. A little more of facts and information by some in place of the profanity and name-calling might be more productive here, but that's a part of the deal with the blog/ what guidelines would be imposed to make things better?

For now, it's tolerable compared to some alternatives.

Antonio Villaraigosa also promised to make our animal shelters nokill. Fewer animals are leaving the shelter alive. Twice as many are dying in their cages. Antonio hired a guy as slick as himself. Ed Boks the Director of Animal Services never graduated from college. He may have only gone to one semester. He's all talk and no progress. He lied about making AZ and NY "nokill." He killed 43% and 51% of the animals respectively in those shelters, over 22,000 a year. Ed Boks is also a boozer like our Mayor. He's been seen driving a City animal control vehicle drunk on a few occasions. He's even dated employees. Birds of a feather.

Two great articles about the Mayor's utter failure with this Department. Making the shelters nokill was his campaign platform.

Mayor gets an F from the animals
Mayor doesn't keep campaign promises to the animals

With the animal control guy manipulating his numbers to make it seem like he's successful, it makes you wonder if LAPD is doing the same thing. The shelters are refusing animals from the public so they won't have to kill as many. Maybe the LAPD is refusing to take crime reports. Then it looks like crime is down when it's not.

But to materialize this project, that is located in a land of 22 thousand square feet in 3325 North Broadway Boulevard, has not been exactly “a stroll by the forest”, but a battle that Duarte and Corona at some time thought that they were going to lose.

“The original idea era to open a tax exemption of Chuck and Cheese, but did not accept”, says Duarte, adding that the tax exemptions do not want to settle in the East of.

The project began with the purchase of the land in which a clinic was located and that the industralists financed with their own income and their good file of credit. Villaraigosa Booed at Beckham Event
(Home Depot Center, Carson) -- L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's self-redemption tour hit a pothole here today.

The mayor had hoped to get a warm reception from a crowd of fans welcoming soccer superstar David Beckham to the L.A. Galaxy. Villaraigosa has said he wants to 'focus on his job' after damaging revelations came out last week that he cheated on his wife of 20 years by having an affair with a local newscaster.

The reception he got here was chilly, to say the least.

When Villaraigosa was introduced to the crowd, they booed. Loudly. The catcalls could be heard on the podium mike. And so you could definitely hear it on the live TV feed that people were watching all over the world.

The mayor tried to connect with the fans, asking them: "Who says L.A. doesn't love soccer?!"

He was greeted with silence. Nobody shouted back.

He tried desperately to generate some enthusiasm, but the crowd would not play along.

All week long, Villaraigosa has tried to carry on with his work. He's made numerous public appearances. He and his handlers must hope the story of his divorce and affair will just go away if the mayor just ignores it.

It's not going away yet. His popularity has taken a hit. And he got a humiliating reminder of that from the crowd here today.

L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is introduced, and he's loudly booed. Seriously, politicians: Don't your advisers warn you that sports fans don't want to be bothered with politics? Villaraigosa says, "Do we love David Beckham?" and when the crowd doesn't respond to him, he says, "Oh, come on." Yeah, they love Beckham. They just don't love you.

MORE BOOING FOR MAYOR VILLARAIGOSA. BOY IS JOHN & KEN KFI GOING TO BE FUN TO LISTEN TO.
laobserved.com

Antonio booed at Beckham event
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa heard boos when he stepped to the microphone at today's media debut of new Galaxy member David Beckham in Carson. It really came through on TV, and I'm told the mayor looked taken aback by the reception. City News Service calls it "a notable round of boos."

Villaraigosa also was the butt of jokes from Jay Leno again during the monologue on last night's "Tonight Show."
We have a very special crowd here tonight. Every single member of our audience has had an affair with an elected official. How about that?

Boy, there are a lot of sex scandals in the news this week. It's unbelievable. Our own mayor here in Los Angeles, has admitted to having an affair with a very young, very attractive reporter from the Spanish language network...whose job it was to cover him. She was supposed to cover him. Talk about being an embedded reporter. Man! Takes on a whole new meaning.
But I guess the mayor got some good news today. He got a big endorsement from "In 'n Out."

Today, Vitter put out a statement say that he only started to cheat on his wife after he began hanging out with the wrong crowd-you know, Giuliani, Newt Gingrich, the mayor of L.A.

The big issue for Mayor Tony aka Big Love is how many strings he pulled for his mistresses.

A campaign backer apparently sold Mirthala her Condo at below market value.

I'm sure appointments, promotions of Sabrina Kay's fashion line, and various other conflicts-of-interest would be of great interest to Rocky and others who would like to advance over Big Love.

Bottom line: Big Love wants to be Gov. There are many other politicians who would like that also. Getting Big Love's scalp as part of anti-corruption would be a way of both blocking Big Love and proving to voters that said pol is tough on corruption and deserving of votes.

Screwing around on your wife and screwing your buddies wives is not illegal (though despicable). Conflict of interest violations for your mistresses CAN potentially be illegal depending on the law.

I predict there will be many who look at this.

Commercials have these women coming onto a man in the middle -- it all is so horribly retro. I know a Latina actress who can only get these sorts of jobs; next stage is the frumpy moms. No wonder this culture spawns the Alicias and Teresas and vengeful dumpy wives.

Editorial
Mayor Needs Substance, Not Style

It is painful to watch Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa at this stage of his career. So much promise lies in tatters. We may be watching a man on the brink of collapsing within himself.

If Villaraigosa can't retreat from this brink, it will be a personal tragedy for him. Of greater concern, it will hurt the city, at least in the short term.

A particularly telling moment occurred last Monday, when he appeared at yet another photo op, this one about filling potholes. Dressed in street-maintenance garb, he struggled to guide the pothole-tamping machine. With the many TV cameras rolling (let's remember that the mayor and his staff count the number of cameras at each event), he looked foolish, not the image he must have been going for: a political leader willing to roll up his sleeves and walk the walk. Instead, he was eerily reminiscent of Michael Dukakis' worst moment, when the doomed presidential candidate climbed into a military tank with a helmet big enough to make him look like a child, not a soldier.

Right now we are wondering if we will ever be able to think of Villaraigosa other than in his own Dukakis moment, the true beginning of the end. We hope we can, because we want him to lead the city to a better future. After all, he didn't start a war or lie to Congress; he just messed up his personal life, as have mayors before him, as well as governors and a legion of presidents.

Villaraigosa admits he brought it all on himself, but confession doesn't move him or the city forward.

This may be his last, best chance to get things right. Now, Mayor Villaraigosa needs to change course, needs to halt his relentless ambition for higher and higher office, and instead must focus on leading the city. In stark contrast to his previous style, he should concentrate on a few issues on which he can effect noteworthy improvements.

The public can differentiate between style and substance. The public gave the mayor a break for a while, but sensibilities have changed. Few people remain impressed with charisma.

The recent events (public scandal, a pending divorce) would be easier to dismiss had Villaraigosa accomplished more during his first two years in office, but he has completed few tasks. Rather than coming up with a major move that has made the city of Los Angeles a better place to live and work since he was inaugurated July 1, 2005, we have a figure who has spread himself too thin, who has jumped from cause du jour to cause du jour.

There have been some positives. Most significantly, Villaraigosa's go-everywhere enthusiasm has energized the citizenry. His star power and constantly professed love for the city have provided Los Angeles its deserved spot on the world stage, something it lacked during the eras of Jim Hahn and Richard Riordan. Under Villaraigosa, it has been easy to be excited by Los Angeles as both a city and a concept.

However, many of the mayor's promises have been unfulfilled, and most of the projects he started remain unfinished. For instance, the ranks of the LAPD have fallen short of the long-sought 10,000-officer level, and are not expected to get there for years, despite a new trash collection fee intended to fund the increase.

It feels the same in his boldly pronounced effort to take on street gangs. Villaraigosa earned hordes of coverage with his easy-to-digest proclamations to fight gang crime. But while he recently appointed a new gang czar, we have yet to see how this person will help. Same thing with his subway-to-the-sea concept - it's good press, but we still don't know how or when it will materialize.

Of course, the most salient example of high expectations and low results has been the schools. Shortly after his inauguration, Villaraigosa went to war with the Los Angeles Unified School District board and began wrangling to assume control over the schools. He trotted out statistics touting a high dropout rate and said that his leadership would make the difference in the quality of education, claiming he would be accountable where others were not, never mind that he might not be around long enough to see far-reaching results.

As has been well reported, his effort to take over the district first resulted in a messy, truncated "compromise," worked with the inappropriate help of Sacramento lawmakers who shouldn't have been sticking their nose in Los Angeles' business. Then the entire shebang was tossed out by a judge.

Sure, Villaraigosa's preferred slate of school board candidates won election recently, theoretically giving him a majority in future decisions. But really, after two years of intense attention to the issue, we expected more than a 4-3 board majority. We expected some results.

In Downtown Los Angeles, we have also seen unspectacular results. Yes, Villaraigosa backed Police Chief William Bratton and the Safer City Initiative that has helped reduce the number of homeless people on Skid Row, but last year he nearly sold out Downtown when he pushed for a settlement with the ACLU that would have allowed more people to sleep on the streets. Fortunately the City Council twice mustered the votes to quash that effort.

Villaraigosa also ignited a silly and pointless minor scuffle over who would have the power to make decisions about selling "air rights" to build taller buildings in Downtown.

For the sake of the city, and for his own sake as well, we want Villaraigosa to overcome the debacle he has made of his personal life and do well in his career. He has succeeded against overwhelming personal challenges in his early life; we hope he can do so again.

It's time for Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to stand back and think about his legacy. He needs to focus on Los Angeles while he is in Los Angeles and let the future take care of itself.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa was among the dignitaries who sat on stage along with David Beckham on Friday. He even got a Beckham jersey, had the chance to say a few words and presented Beckham with some sort of plaque.

Funny thing is, Home Depot Center sits in the city of Carson, where Jim Dear serves as mayor. So where does that get you? A seat on the floor some eight rows back from the stage (that's Mayor Dear in the blue suit jacket).

LA Mayor Villaraigosa booed at David Beckham ceremony

Friday, July 13, 2007
(Associated Press)
(07-13) 15:50 PDT Carson, Calif.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa was greeted by a crowd of thousands Friday with something he doesn't usually hear —a booming chorus of boos.

The icy reception came as Villaraigosa took part in a welcoming ceremony for the newest member of the Los Angeles Galaxy — soccer superstar David Beckham.

But when the mayor was introduced, the crowd estimated at 5,000 turned on him with jeers and howls as if he was a member of an opposing team, while the moment was recorded by a vast array of international media.

The real burning question of the day is, who is more shallow and annoyingly stupid, Victoria Posh Beckham or Paris Hilton?

Similarities: anorexic skinny, bony features, phony blondes, though Posh is short and Paris fairly tall...they could surely share clothes and shoes, both have their own lines of clothes: both airheads and David B had perfume lines. Both given to revealing clothes. Both intellectually burdened with the great issues of the day: Posh: "I need to find a good manicurist." Paris: "I found God and am going to do good with my life...after the next parties." They both love to be seen with equally shallow and rich friends.

Significant differences: Posh never smiles -- it creates frown lines, interrupts line of her face. Paris does, in a demure, littlegirl slut kind of way. Posh is married, Paris sleeps around, and around.

Posh and David have no use for the hoi polloi who adore them, don't even look at them: One woman who flew in from Australia to greet her and presented her with flowers, didn't even get a glance. Paris at least reads her fan mail -- got Baca into trouble (again) over it.

Will they be rivals? Or friends? Is Posh afraid Paris will steal her married friends' husbands? Or wash their cars in a bikini? Which can hit the most paparazzi restaurants while consuming the least? Which can get the most paparazzi coverage without actually doing a thing?

of course it's you people they refer to when they talk about the problems of educating Spanish speakers, poverty in the schools, uninsured motorists (three times as high in East L. And none of you have friends and family you are sneaking into the country to join you, because the "fence" they clamour for isn't being built? You're not out there marching with the illegals, waving Mexican flags?

All the KFI (and KRLA) hosts hate your people living mentally in Mexico still, but even they can't say so in so many words, so use all these obvious codewords and phrases. Get real. They are laughing at how easy it is to manipulate you by talking "family values," whatever it takes.

Part of the reason for the booing of the Mayor is that sports fans hate it when politicians crash their event. That's why some won't allow themselves to become a part of an sports event. The fans are fanatic and know that the politician is just there for exposure and to feel the love, and the fans are there for the players. It's like the Mayor going to the opera and giving a speech before it starts, or having to watch the Times ads in the threater before the movie starts.

The Beckham magnet is so strong, LA mayor Antonio Villaraigosa even turned up, perhaps hoping to catch a bit of positive karma. Nice try.

The mayor is trying to move past a scandal -- his affair with a television reporter -- that broke up his marriage and cost him popularity points. But the crowd booed his name, and one heckler shouted, "Is your girlfriend covering it?" when he went briefly to the microphone.

Even putting on a Beckham No. 23 jersey failed to turn the hostile crowd to Villaraigosa's side, the one killjoy note in the party atmosphere.

Next up, trying on the Beckham jersey, is the MLS, crossing its fingers that it has better luck than the scrambling mayor.

IF the media won't report our disdain for Antonio then thanks Mayor Sam for giving us a place to do it.

Let's see David Beckam's homecoming ruined by the mayor. The fact that all media outlets reported he got booed and had no idea he was a Chivas fan only after Matt Sabo quickly put out a release saying Antonio was a Chivas fan did a few retract. What makes it even worst is the Mayor doesn't support an LA team and showed Beckam he's supports another team. GREAT!!!

2.48 am. MS has always been this bad. The only difference now is that Mayor Villaraigosa is on the receiving end of the "criticism".

I can't wait to see what future reactions the Mayor will receive at public events. I think that he has just begun to experience public opinion in response to his chosen course of conduct.

Suggestions to the Mayor: From now on, stay in your office (ask someone to showy you where it is) and skip all the self-promoting photo ops.

Then You will see that: (a.) you may get some real work done for a change, and (b.) you will have less exposure in public to boos, and (c.) limit opportunities for reporters to ask you about your latest romancing antics.

What I really expect is that you will simply continue on your shameless way and act as if nothing has happened.

You would have been a disappointment if I had some positive expectations of you.
I WAS surprised by your utter and complete self-destruction on the morality issues. Nice job- didn't even have to rely on a hit piece to blame for your woes.

A Former supporter (2001) in "CD-14," your stepping stone to current office.

Forget about politics, Rocky. Your remarks at dinner last night was one of the worst speeches I have ever heard. Everybody was stopping themselves laughing. What a joke.

I too find the repetitive ALL CAPS poster uninformative. It diminishes the blog. Delete the duplicate posts.
