Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Wednesday

City Attorney candidate Carmen Trutanich has proven he'll be no shrinking violet in what will be a nasty campaign against fellow candidate Jack Weiss.  Of course as long as Weiss is involved, it will be nothing but nasty.  Weiss challenged Trutanich for contributions he received from pro-second amendment, gun rights groups and ordered his challenged to return the contributions.  To wit, Trutanich shot back "I tell you what, I'll return this money when Jack Weiss returns all the money he received from developers," Trutanich said. "I support reasonable gun laws. I think anyone who owns a gun illegally should go to jail. Anytime he wants to debate gun ownership I'll be happy to oblige."

Speaking of Jack Weiss at least the citizens of the 5th District can take some comfort in the fact that in a little less than a year, he will no longer be their City Councilman.  One of the leading contenders in what is turning out to already be be a competitive and contentious race to replace Weiss, former West Hollywood Mayor and carpetbagger Paul Koretz, has named as his campaign chief: none other than Sister City readers' favorite and Villaraigosa operative Park "Parque Esquelto" Skelton.  Could a Villaraigosa endorsement be coming soon for Koretz?

The Daily Breeze has come out in support of Bernard Parks' bid to replace Yvonne Burke on the County Board of Supervisors.  One of the key reasons for the paper's nod is their belief that "Parks would work to attract more market-rate housing and businesses other than fast food and auto-related enterprises."

Mayor Villaraigosa and Councilwoman Janice Hahn know better than to be the pitch people for their anti-gang property tax scam, Measure A,  on the November ballot.  They're turning to LAPD Chief William Bratton "the last public official with any credibility with voters." Think about that, it's really sad.  However count at least one no vote on Measure A if Bratton is the spokes-hole: celebrity diva Lindsay Lohan.

Truth to Power is an organization of former community organizers for the controversial political group, ACORN, that is calling for major reform within the organization.  Among ACORN's hypocrisy as stated by Truth to Power, "ACORN activists fight for Living Wages but management refuses to pay a Living Wage and forces organizers to work 54-80 hours a week." Doesn't surprise me.  Many of these professional non-profits (not all there are some very good ones), especially the ones that take government funds, are no more dedicated to the average person than General Motors.

In their biggest score since they closed a billboard deal with the City of Los Angeles, live entertainment firm AEG has scored the rights to produce and stage Britney Spears comeback tour.  No detals on when tickets go on sale but the pop diva is hoping for a worldwide tour, her first since 2004.

Don't forget our big Fourth Anniversary party Friday night at Casa Princesa in Highland Park.  By the way if you want to get me a present for four years of hard fought blogging you could bring me one of these.  Well, I can dream can't I?

why isn't anyone connecting the dots that ACORN was the group that went with Vilaraigosa to Sacramento to fight for the takeover of LAUSD. They are also the group that helped get him voted Mayor with the few 200,000 out of a city of 4 million. Where's the great David Z on this story?

On the registry of gifts for Mayor Sam- at the top- is an unlimited number of erasers for all the mistakes and wrong material written by Michael, not even counting the simply bad choices that should not have been made in print.

But that's water over the dam, and maybe we will just have to settle for sending him good wishes and reminding where the backspace and delete keys are.

In 90041

p.s., Mayor Tony was going to come by on Friday night- couldn't miss a photo opp- but saw it was located in his former district, CD-14, and thought better of it, especially since he only takes pre-screened questions, but none at all from CD-14, unless, of course, it's from Jose.

Jack Weiss is a pure scumbag.
The arrogance he must have to try and run for another office after nearly being recalled.

Okay, Jack. You asked for him. You're going to get whupped.

Every yard sign that I see with your name on it is going to get pulled up.

Jack Weiss finally has decided to show his political mettle. But in the tradition of his campaign manager, Mayor Tony, he's got things bass-ackwards.

He IS a city council member and he WANTS to be CITY ATTORNEY. So the first thing he decides to do is question the propriety of CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTION SOURCES. WEISS just might start with his manager on that endeavor. Trutanich has some pro-Second Amendment, gun rights groups on his side. Mr. Weiss forgets that these are supporters of LEGAL and RESPONSIBLE gun ownership, and not an arm of MS-13 or any other REAL source of gun violence.

WEISS, as city attorney, would be expected to enforce laws and protect the citizenry, but just having Mayor Tony running his campaign is not a red flag but more a red flare highlighting what's on their agenda. WEISS really takes the safe path and remains silent usually. In a rare venture into public speaking, he makes a misstep- again.

WEISS has NOT DONE ANYTHING to show the slightest interest in JAMIEL'S LAW- any version- or any intent to change Special Order 40. How could he? Mayor Tony is a "S.O. 40" supporter, reminding us of that position on recent Zuma Dogg video, saying, “No change is needed.” WEISS has put his cards on the table, showing us that he has been taking his orders from upstairs, and I don’t mean God. But hesitate not, JACK WEISS, BILL BRATTON has the same situation, with Mayor Tony making the calls (and Bratton has a gun, too- a criminal? - well, not on that basis.).

WEISS’ ineptitude for challenging lawful activity continues to be another irony in what goes on in city government- they condemn murders and gangs, but act more to shield perpetrators of crime, especially violent crime, from really suffering the consequences of criminal behavior of any type. We want to get at a part of the gang problem by removing the illegal aliens from their ranks to begin some level of control on the gang problem. City Council has no clue on causes of gang membership and recruitment of youth, and WEISS, is one of them. WEISS must equate receiving support by gun rights, Second Amendment advocates and other lawfully acting groups and individual with being the source of crime. It’s all turned around, Jack. Go after criminals- read a few newspapers if you happen to need enlightenment.

In the last riot- the Rodney King verdict “reaction”- known in more apologetic circles as “The L.A. Rebellion”, civil unrest, and other euphemisms- many shop owners were able to protect themselves only by having firearms with them, and the ability to repel attacks kept them from being further victimized. The police were neutralized during that time, to refresh your memory, having no real plan in case rioting began over the verdict, an eventuality that couldn’t have been more plainly seen as about to happen than if it had been spray painted on city hall walls. Lawful gun ownership is not criminal and can be, literally, your first-aid in situations where the professionals (police) still have not arrived to take over. It’s not a substitute for police, but it can meet a critical need at a particular moment. Does JACK WEISS want us helpless? It sounds that way.

JACK WEISS, what a time to show us your "get tough" side. Get your priorities in order, re-align your columns and see WHO needs protection and obeys laws, and WHO are the criminals and spread terror and mayhem. And in that sorting of the CRIMINALS, reach your arms out all around you and grab on. You will have just made a step in rounding up some of the white-collar culprits.

Now, stop acting in that moronic, logic-less style of your council colleagues and campaign manager. Leave the good people alone and protect us, not bury us. I still will never vote for you without seeing a major conversion to sensibility, but you don’t have to remain a fool to spite me.

An opinion of a Latino in CD-14.

Latest CNN poll numbers just in.

Nationally, it's Obama 50-42.

But of course this isn't the number than matters as much as who wins each state.

CNN identified 5 battleground states, each of which went for Bush last time, so these are states in which the Republicans are fighting to hold their ground. Not a good sign for the GOP.

Colorado, Obama 51-47.

Georgia, McCain 53-43. Bush won by 17 points.

Florida, Obama 51-46. Most electoral votes.

Missouri, 49-48. Has missed picking the winner only once (1956) in last 100 years.

Virginia, Obama 53-43. Has voted GOP since 1964.

I sure hope Paul Koretz isn't going to be using Antonio's spin-dummy Parque Skelton. He's a bigger clown than Red Skelton, and if Paul rolls with him...Zuma Dogg will be having a VERY GOOD time giving Paul a whole bunch of "good" publicity. And you know I consider ANY publicity "good" publicity.

PAUL WILL NOT BE ABLE TO WITHSTAND MY CRITICISM IF HE ROLLS WITH ANTONIO.

IT WILL BE FUN TO BASH KORETZ LIKE A CHEAP PINATA IF THIS IS TRUE.

OPPOSITION "R" US when it comes to Koretz if he's rolling with Douchearaigosa.

Sorry Paul, I thought you were a nice guy and I thought I could get behind you...but if you roll with Villariagosa, I already told you what who happen.

I hope it's not true for your sake. You should think twice, just for your own dignity.

You will wish you were not running at all, if you are rolling with Villar, Paul.

BETTER THINK TWICE PAUL, before you jump on villar's national extremist bandwagon.

I WILL BE EVERYWHERE YOU ARE DURING YOUR CAMPAIGN APPERANCES, PAUL IF YOU ROLL WITH VILLAR. HE IS UNSAFE AND A NATIONAL EXTREMIST!

AND THE PEOPLE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD DO NOT WANT THAT!

yes, Zuma Dogg is "Top Dogg". Even that is a message to Paul.

Paul just better hope he doesn't roll with Villar's political-exteremist-posse in that district.

I sent Candiate Paul Koretz an email copy of my above comments, and aksed for a response.

Since he was nice enough to reply, I don't think he will mind if I post his response for everyone to see, since everyone is seeing MY comments on this concern:

"Parke is his own guy--he happened to run the Mayor's campaigns. I have worked with him for 25 years on campaign for people we agree on. I don't have the Mayor's support, although I will take anyone's support. The Mayor doesn't come with Parke. That is jut a journalist's assumption."

I hate LA politics so much, I aspire to some day soon return to the slightly less ridiculous and relatively crime free city of Burbank.

However, if Trutanich can get himself elected in Los Angeles, I just might want to stay.

He is the most heroic supporter of the Bill of Rights and the US Constitution to run for office in Los Angeles as long as I've been alive.

How come that in the places where you need a CCW permit the most, you can't get one, and in the places you don't need a CCW permit, you can? It makes no sense. LA gun laws are ridiculous - they only apply to law-abiding people. Illegals and gang members do not care, and we are at their mercy.

So when they find the Mayor laying in the middle of the street which district will take the award for getting rid of him....or should we push him down the block to CD13 for Garcetti and let them take the credit?

Nice post, 7:37 a.m. Glad to see that Trut's high class supporters will be out there ripping out Weiss signs from private property. You've already gone through Weiss's donations with a finetooth comb and couldn't find anything so you're so frustrated you're bragging about going illegal already.

And Latino in CD-14, I've never seen Weiss say he's against legally registered guns, but he does want to make it harder for guns to fall into criminal hands and for guns and bullits to be identifiable if they're misused. No, he doesn't want to dump SO-40 for reasons he's detailed, athough he and Bratton have been clarifying it to those who didn't realize that cops can and often do cooperate with other agencies in cases of illegal criminals. Seems to me that someone who has a good working relationship with the chief as well as Baca (who's endorsed both candidates, in his own way, apparently just saying he'll work with whoever's elected) is what we need, not someone who's always at odds with the Chief and everyone at City Hall, including the popular Controller. Trut would be more of the same and worse, with him and Cooley covering up for each other.

Thanks 10:49 for pointing out that Trut is already one of the "brains" behind Rocky and his tremendously successful stint as City Attorney. (And a beneficiary of our tax dollars on all those overpriced, winning lawsuits.) That's just what we need, more of the same with phony John Wayne bravado.

calguns.net opposes anything or anyone who's remotely "liberal," just check out their website. That goes across the board, on all issues, not just guns. While there are many decent people who own guns for protection, there are also others who join groups like this and the NRA and flock to gun shows because they're extremist types who hide behind "law and order" to push some pretty unpleasant agendas. Some of these people talk about the "right" to own guns, but are only too happy to deprive others of civil rights. Like it or not, a City Attorney must look at all aspects of the law as it applies to everyone. I'd like to be able to own a gun if I choose (though I don't) but I'd prefer that the cops get the bad guys off the street instead, in a way that doesn't turn them into gestapo, scary figures who go upto anyone to demand "their papers" for no reason. That would be the impact of Jamiel's Law as it's written.

It's not a matter of banning guns vs. the "right to bear arms" as some are claiming.

Weiss wasn't "almost recalled." The woman hired to run the campaign admitted that they got far fewer than they'd expected. No one ever saw the actual number of signatures, the claims about numbers are unverified and belied by their own campaign manager. The excuse that they didn't want to impose financial burdens on taxpayers by having the Clerk count signatures is totally bogus. Had they come anywhere close, they'd have revealed their lists -- these people think nothing of suing the city over Pico/ Olympic, for example. The folly of their obstinacy was made clear in so many words by the RAND study released last week, which touted one ways and building along transit corridors as keys to reducing gridlock -- along with longer-range solutions like subways that these same people are fighting in a double-whammy of obstructed short and long-term solutions to traffic.

These people were too embarrassed to admit the truth and prefer to keep making unsubstantiated claims.

Since then they've been resorting to various underhanded tactics and are now boasting they'll rip out lawn signs and do whatever they can to make the campaign as "nasty" as they can, whatever it takes. These are the last people I'd want choosing elected officials for me.

Weiss took illegal contributions and didn't return them.

Weiss failed to return the PUBLIC MATCHING FUNDS that were based on those illegal contributions.

This disqualifies him from being CA pure and simple.

Note: The KNBC report on "Laundered Elections" which featured Weiss won an emmy.

You wouldn't be as concerned with those gangbanger little thugs if you morons didn't make the general populace "unarmed victims" of those little drugged out pukes. You gave up your rights to bitch when you sat down and decided it was the "right thing" to do when seconds count to dial 911 instead of picking up your own copy of sam colts equalizer. After all the cops are only minutes away and we all know the criminals are patient enough to wait for them. What dumb asses...
It’s about time someone like Trutanich gets the post. Not that most of you really deserve that level of protection, but the general public does.
