The "Chief" vs. the "Motor Cop" over "Star Treatment"

Clash of the Egos!!

Even Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa knows where to position himself when the caustic combination of wit, ego and "Boston (BAA-STIN)** Speak" is on "full" from Chief Bill Bratton.

Witness this morning's remarks aimed at the "Motor Cop" turned "Spring Street Rino Councilman" Dennis Zine and his proposed paparazzi restrictions.

"I figured I'd come over and straighten out -- we have no intention of participating in today's hearing. It's a total waste of time. We have sufficent laws on the books that we enforce to deal with this issue," Bratton said, still sweaty from his workout and with a towel hanging around his neck.

"If you notice, since Brittany started wearing clothes and behaving; Paris is out of town not bothering anybody, thank god; and, evidently, Lindsay Lohan has gone gay (sorry Roderick, here are some pics), we don't seem to have much of an issue.

"If the ones that attract the paparazzi behave in the first place, like we expect of anybody, that solves about 90 percent of the problem. The rest of it we can deal with.

"So as far as all this grandstanding and foolishness, waste of city time on this issue -- and the fact that I felt aggravated enough about it to interrupt my workout to come over and set the record straight, LAPD has no intention of participating in this farce."

......and from the "Motor Cop", you can click here to see his response.

All this drama at City Hall before 7:00 AM, only in Los Angeles!!

1. Bratton doesn't have a New York accent. It's a Boston (BAA-STIN) accent.

2. Is it just me or is Zine looking more and more like Uncle Fester everyday?

3. Remember that Zine used to be a police union official, so he argues with police chiefs as a matter of habit.

4. Don't mess with Zine because he's the one who needs an SUV to carry around his arsenal of guns, or so he says.

Incredible! Bratton said Lindsay Lohan has "gone gay!"

I'd like to hear from the Gay and Lesbian anti-defamation league on their thoughts on that one. Gone gay is an incredibly homophobic remark to begin with and secondly how does a celebrity "going gay" have any mitigating impact on the activties of paparazzi. An incredibly stupid remark on the part of Bratton.

If a Republican had said this he would be hammered.

I'm going to slam Bratton on this one.

The PC crowd better not back down.

Zine should ask Bratton to retract and apologize for his remarks.

He's getting rave posts on tons of internet sites for standing up for his cops wasting time on a bunch of spolied immature, out of control rick movie stars. Bratton is the least homophobic person around. AT least he had the guts to speak out at council stating that his sister is openly gay and everyone knows he supports gays. I like when he gets angry and says what's on his mind. We have so many weak asses in this city who are so afraid to be a man. All the around the horseshoe have lost their BALLS.

Movie stars are not special people on this planet. The solution would be to BOYCOTT the magazines and National Enquirer etc. for awhile to let them feel the heat. Word has it that now gang bangers are out there being very aggressive taking photos for the money. What if all those actors started staying away from those places. They want LAPD to help them yet they are millionaires who have money to hire tons of security.

I have a gay brother. I think I knew since he was a little child but he hid it and pretended not to be and even went so far as to get married. By the time he was 30, he was divorced, no kids and out of the closet. That was many, many years ago.

My point is that I am generally intolerant of gay-bashing in any form, but I'm not quite sure what Bratton meant even though I'm not offended because I'm a lib commie and Bratton "did gays wrong". Does he think that a gay Lindsay Lohan would attract less paparazzi? I think that, much like Paris, she attracts them because she is Lindsay Lohan. Straight, gay, bi, or just curiously hanging out with that DJ chick who looks like a man - she is going to attract reporters.

I love Bratton, but I just don't know what he meant.

Poor Valley Doll - you can't even comment on the fact that you think Zine is kinda hot (weirdo) without having haters coming and accusing you of TRYING TO BE AN EXPERT ON A YOUNG ACTRESS'S SEX LIFE!!

Seriously, what the fuck is up with some of the retards who post here. Bashing Zuma, bashing Valley Doll, bashing Higby, etc. It's barely tolerable.

You can bash public officials and it's okay. But those who post about them don't deserve your wrath.

Go back and read VD's post again and see where she is posing as an expert.

Hilarious -- when Bratton says "we have enough laws on the books to deal with this issue, we don't need this grandstanding and nonsense," he could be referring to "Zine's motion" to reform Jamiel's Law, as well. Would it occur to Zine that since he's undermining the Chief's authority on SO40, that just maybe the Chief will have nothing to do with him, or any of his OTHER grandstanding efforts? And make no mistake -- that's all "Zine's motion" is, since it adds nothing to the order, other than a reminder that cops CAN check for illegal status when they stop a suspect.

To the extent that Zine would want to make the cops pro-active in going after illegal ID's, especially for felons: that's the job of Baca, who;s in charge of the jails, and above all, DA Cooley, who's IN CHARGE OF FELONIES AND HAS HUNDREDS OF INVESTIGATORS ON STAFF WHO WERE SUPPOSED TO FIND AND KEEP THE ESPINOZAS AND WIFE-MURDERERS WITH RESTRAINING ORDERS ON THEM, from going out into the streets.
They messed up despite much more $$$ and manpower AND the mandate, and are trying to pin it on Bratton and, with the idiot talk show hosts who even miss the San Francisco victims into this, on Jack Weiss. Total stupidity and lack of understanding of boundaries, perpetuated by Zine who should know better.

Clearly Bratton wanted to show how P O'd he is, and how insignificant Zine is -- "I took time out from my workout," he said, as though that were of far greater import.

I DID watch some of the thing on Ch. 35 while working (NOT on city time): there was nothing new, and the celebs they had upfront, Eric Roberts and George Michael, were kind of ticked off at the start and DID act like they wanted special privileges, although they talked of public safety and accidents waiting to happen (the ONLY valid issue is disruption to the public).

These celebs wanted to have cops available to tail them home when followed by paps, and Zine and a woman from SAG AND the Malibu Mayor talked about creating a special fund just for them, for their special police protection, a special hotline "certain" celebs on the SAG list alone could call for backup. THAT will create problems for sure: EVERY celeb will want to be on the list, it will become another deal-busting bargaining chip, putting OUR cops in the middle.

Irony: Despite Zine's HUGE suckup to DA Cooley's rep there (he's openly supporting Republican Cooley and the Republican candidate for City ATtorney, who's a loud buffoon just like Zine is), the DA did NOT have anything to add, and in fact supporting what Bratton is saying. And ADDED to the displeasure of the pampered celebs, that when they're called out over an altercation, the one arrested could just as well be the celeb if he hit the paps.

ONLY solid suggestion came from a photographer himself echoing others: Make the Paps get licensed and credentialed like regular press if they want to have similar rights so if there's a problem, the cops know where to find them. ANYONE who has a camera isn't a reputable pap (if there IS such a thing) anymore than zuma dogg is a reporter.

LOTS of people, lots of effort, for that one thing.

Fact is, the paparazzi aren't as interested in a gay Lindsay, so it's less of a problem for the cops. But Britney's another matter. It's not an issue of gay-bashing -- everyone is so afraid to say anything anymore but cops are supposed to be cops. Bratton at least is an educated man, while Zine is an idiot and a fathead. Who should join Jan Perry in spending more time at the gym. At least Bratton still LOOKS like a real cop, like he could beat the crap out of someone without just sitting on him. Zine probably couldn't run a block and looks oafish, so his harping on his special cop status doesn't reflect well on cops.

He had to throw in also how as a reserve cop, he gets special police protection when he calls in -- said it's a "recruitment too," but he sounded like he was showing off and trying to make himself sound like a sort of celeb, too.

LAPD Police Chief William J. Bratton has come out -- in favor of gay marriage.

As a wedding gift to friend and celebrity publicist Howard Bragman and his longtime partner, Chuck O'Donnell, Bratton made it official: He and his wife, former Court TV diva Rikki Kleiman, strongly believe that gays have a right to marry. And in honor of Bragman and O'Donnell, who wed this past week in Norwalk, the chief and Kleiman have made a donation to Equality California, a group seeking to stop a state ballot measure this November that would ban same-sex marriages.

"The Constitution guarantees life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness," Bratton said this week. "I see no reason why gays can't pursue happiness through marriage."

They're led by the nose, by that other fat, drunken right-wing Republican Steve Cooley DA, to blame Bratton and his already overstretched force for letting Espinoza and others out of COUNTY jail -- which is overseen by Cooley himself, as IN CHARGE OF FELONIES.

His people and Baca's are the ones who messed up like they usually do, letting Espinoza out as "a citizen' just because he said he was born in the US. They're even trying to blame Bratton for the San Francisco killing, and want to fly in those other victims of stupid low-rent media PR stunts, Mrs. Balogna, for a press conference here in LA to protest SO40.

HOW STUPID CAN THEY BE, of course the Chief has had it with that moron Zine who's egging on these clueless clowns for his own PR.

The "gone gay" comments was un-PC, but people are saying it's refreshing to have Bratton speak just like someone's uncle or dad would -- but a very liberal one as far as his generation goes. He's been among the most active police Chiefs in the country in not only defending but advocating gay rights to marry and be protected as domestic partners. And of course when it comes to any kind of "gay bashing."

The cliches of the West Hollywood Councilmember about Bratton, arguing that "here in West Hollywood, people go gay every night," are what's stupid. Sure, there are gay bars and bathhouses where HIV is being spread as younger gays think drugs may them immune from unsafe sex, with Nanny- city WeHo offers free condoms and brochures. These brochures contain advice like, "find out the name and address of who you go home with," since gays often take home strangers who assault them. From a policing point of view, the gays of WeHo don't sound like role models.

We're lucky Bratton even wanted the job of second term here in this land of PC jerks, when he was lured back east and after NYC, had a top national reputation well-earned.

John Mayer DID come off as a total idiot. He demanded special police escort every time he felt he was being followed by paps home to his remote Malibu home, which is almost every time.

When the West Hollywood Councilmember said that their city is so used to disputes between paps and celebs, that they know just how to handle them on places like Robertson and the Sunset Strip (I'm not so sure seeing the Paris Hilton fiasco), but that calls like Mayer's talking about have to be vetted to be sure the caller isn't just paranoid or drunk -- Mayer got really angry. He said "I'm glad this is being recorded on tv," and took it as lack of proper responsiveness and a waste of his valuable time being ther at the meeting.

Zine and Baca jumped in to assure him they'd take him seriously, and Zine offered to work with SAG to come up with a special, private hotline JUST FOR CELEBS ON A LIST.

That would justifiably infuriate average citizens, the ones who are really bothered by the paparazzi, while a lot of celebs like the 3 bimbos Bratton lists, Angelina Jolie and John Mayer himself, pose for the paps when it suits them. (Mayer is a major media whore!!! From the sleazy club shots, being groped by two bimbos at once, one at his crotch, to staged bathing suit shots.)

Who'd have to send out his forces? Bratton. It's HIS call, not Zine's. He's been doing it as needed but giving special treatment to celebs on "a list" would be using city cops to foster their egos -- getting on "the list" would be another negotiating ploy in every deal, like a double-wide trailer. He doesn't need that PR nightmare. Zine is too dumb to think two steps ahead of himself.

The Times Calendar had a story Wed, day before Zine's silly boondoggle at City Hall, about how Bratton's right: "Britney is Gone in a Flash," read the headline.

The owner of X17 says, "She's boring. She doesn't even have a boyfriend."

The Times writes that photogs have stayed away since "She rarely goes out and when she does, she behaves herself. No head shaving...No panty-free car exits."

She's also stopped hanging with her former BFF's/ fellow bimbo self-promoters, Paris and Lindsay. (Who've yet to learn to behave themselves -- but as Bratton says, Lindsay's less interesting since she's not running around with different guys anymore who refer to her nether-regions as untamed nettle-lands.)

Neighbors are happy that the dozens of cars and photogs have shrunk to a few -- one source says many of those so-called photogs were from foreign countries (no doubt without work permits) who have even quit the "profession." So Bratton's right that literally a few of these publicity-seeking bimbos can create a frenzy, but inviting a photog pool which then hounds others, too.

But Bratton is wrong about one law that we need: to license these sleaze-bags and make sure they have work visas. Otherwise, they're as illegal and more dangerous than the Mexicans at Home Depot. Other sources claim these aggressive hounds included gangstas from the hoods and barrios -- the better for stalking.

Their "no comment, whatever she does is fine with me as long as she's happy," sure is no denial.

In fact, she might think it's cool, like the Madonna-Britney kiss -- these days for a celeb, being bi is not a "shame," it's just making her less of a draw according to the L A Times article. The average American doesn't want to see her kissing a girl -- more than once.

This flap over nothing is an example of what floodgates would open with Zine's stupid pandering to spoiled stars who'll turn on their "benefactors" in a flash, just like they do on their agents, producers, another who doesn't give them what they want when they want.

IMAGINE there being a law giving them special LAPD detail because they're on Zine's "list" and then, if they don't get it as fast as they'd like? They'll sue the city.

Celebs definitely should NOT get a special phone number for LAPD!

But Bratton should open his ears to one good suggestion, long overdue: licensing paparazzi, like the MSM is when covering hot stories. Then if they hit someone's car, parked or in a chase, trample a neighbor's grass or block roads, the cops will have recourse.

AND they can be required to have a "photo pool" like the MSM photo pool does -- they don't all have a "right" to sell the same photos, but if they're claiming "the public's right to know" as press (which in reality they don't give a damn about), they'll have no excuse to demand to overtake a street.

What happened with Paris during the tug of war between Baca and Rocky/ the Courts was, the hundreds of so- called paparazzi and curiosity seekers from around the world clogged both her Hollywood Hills and then family Holmby Hills homes, so that EVERYONE including residents were banned from parking. That really pissed off residents who had to walk long distances even uphill to their own homes, because they were not distinguished from the parasitic "paparazzi." That was wrong. As is letting paps swarm cars and force them into dangerous driving to escape.

There IS a need to protect neighbors and oblivious civilians caught in the middle, but NOT give special access to our LAPD. This backwards approach requiring him to dedicate cops as bodyguards to spoiled celebs who entice paparazzi then claim victimhood apparently pissed Bratton off from the start.

(And I'm sure Zine's grandstanding against Bratton on SO40, second- guessing and trying to override his judgment there, too, had something to do with his attitude to Zine.)

We all know Zine is the biggest asshole on council. Well it could be a close tie with others. He's pandering cause he fially getting attention for nothing. He's hot air then crying like a big baby wanting the commission to investigate Bratton. Will one of you guys please kick his ass to make him a man? Women hate weakass men. I'm sure Harvey Levin is still in the closet but he's as gay as they come. Is that why he's pandering to Lindsay? Come out of the closet Harvey. Entertainment people know but I doubt if anyone else does

Dumb Ass Zine.

...Therein lies the real problem — the extreme unlikelihood that this ordinance would survive even 10 minutes in court.

Veteran attorneys laugh out loud at some of the proposal's aims. "When you're out in public, in the public domain, the First Amendment applies," says Bob Corn-Revere, a noted Washington, D.C.-based lawyer who has co-authored a textbook on media law and argued before the U.S. Supreme Court. "That's what our whole system is based on."

Scholar David L. Hudson of the First Amendment Center in Nashville, Tennessee, agrees, saying the right of the media — reporters and photographers, alike — to gather news and take pictures on public ground is a cornerstone of democracy.

"I don't think it would pass constitutional muster," he says of Zine's plan, equating its possible passage to tossing "the First Amendment into the garbage can."
