Villaraigosa Diddles While LA Burns

Hat tip to LAist.

Community activists like Joe B are rounding up refugees and horses, other volunteers are providing aid to victims and supporting our brave firefighters.

Yet where was Mayor Villaraigosa while LA burned?

For sure, the "11/100 Mayor" showed up on the scene just in time for a photo opp and the 5:00 news.

So where was the Mayor tonight?

On the scene? At shelters comforting victims? In the City's Emergency Operations Center? At Getty House with several news channels on and his cell phone on his lap? Headed to King Taco in Montebello to pick up some grub for the LAFD?

Nope.

Our "concerned" Mayor was at Game Four of the National League Championship Series at Dodger Stadium, "celebrating" in the private luxury suite of Dodger owners Frank and Jaime McCourt (Frank you need to watch these local politicians around your wife ).

And he left just in time to have a press conference for the 11:00 p.m. news.

By the way, the Dodgers lost.

And County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky stayed on the scene all day.

Fox was showing the McCourts and that Liberal Singer from Malibu when in the lower right one sees "Fire Marshall Villar" in his "Homie Doyer" gaer.

Don't complain about Douhearaigosa at the baseball game. That was all part of the plan. Keep him away from EVERYTHING! Let the little man show up for the press conference, but don't let him do anything. Don't mess up our plan. Everything the mayor touches, turns to Mexico.

After Mike and Zev, AV did not have anything to say (Wendy had the information on the large animal shelters) so he hemmed and hawed and babbled and then did a message in Spanish. Perfect!

I think McCourts is a housing development in Pacoima

Let's set up a containment area for this windbag. Keep him from bothering the people who are WORKING. And IF Bush shows up they can both be dropped behind the fire lines and left there.

Why was he wearing a fireman's coat? He makes me SICK! He needs a carpet bag to complete the costume.

I was wondering where he was. Thanks for locating her Sam.

In the Mayors press meeting this morning it became obvious that he reads Mayor Sam as he was trying to explain where he wasn't last night. He made points to say he was involved with the fire for about 11 hours. His voice was strained..someone said because he had been up all night....at the fire?

8:55-

I think 12:06 is correct about the McCourts housing development.

I think "Liberal Singer" is a sewing machine brand.

I won't even speculate on what "the lower right one" is.. sounds like something Larry Craig might be into.

Gaer is possibly another phallus euphemism.

Truth is I have no idea what WetSpot is talking about.

Why was he wearing a fireman's jacket? Can someone ask that of his office?

There can only be two reasons:

1. Because he was up against the fires, knee deep in ash, risking his life; or

2. Because he wanted to create the illusion that he was doing #1 to fool the viewers.

With Tony, you know he was around for this media exposure only because he wasn't already booked out-of-town doing a fundraiser.

Maybe he wears the yellow jacket because he saw Greig Smith there in his police uniform working as an LAPD reserve officer and thinks he's being upstaged.

Mayor Pee Wee was up all night because he couldn't get it down - his mistresses evacuated and he couldn't find them!

If you actually bother to read the comments on LAist, most of them say it's a low blow to attack the Mayor for that when even the LAist writes that it wouldn't have made any diff if Antonio had been home or at his office, he couldn't have done anything more. And being there for a major evening in the city to promote it was arguably better than sitting at home wringing his hands.

Baca thanked him for being on the fire scene since dawn this morning and Baca's not even a big Antonio fan. So you and RonKaye are just Bitter Bernies when it comes to the Mayor.

But here's a variation for you on the Boy Who Cried Wolf: when you attack him all the time for nothing, when you do have a point, it doesn't mean much.

9:55pm- Mayor Tony does not always get attacked for nothing.

Most of what he does is "nothing"-

"nothing" happening for the good of the city,

"nothing" happening that is not for Tony first (fundraising events, photo opps),

"nothing" that shows he pays attention to city fiscal crises to control things BEFORE disaster befalls us,

"nothing" to begin treating city agencies like DWP or appointees like David Nahai as primarily providing functional services for the city, not cash cows for politicians and appointees.

"nothing" to slow mounting city fees and taxes for residents, many on limited and fixed incomes,

and "nothing" to consider the IMPACT of actions on the people of this city instead of his political future.

Tony gets attacked for "nothing" and deservedly so.

Actually, the truth is one of the firefighters gave the mayor the yellow jacket to wear during the press conference. Funny how nobody at the command center thought the mayor was a jerk, a do-nothing, a loser or anything else.

He visited the evacuated families and they were happy to see him. Hate to be the bearer of that bad news for you.

One who lives near the fires,

Once the cameras and their boss leaves, ask the firemen what they really think of the opportunistic mayor
