Mid-day Briefs on the Los Angeles Political Machine for Thursday

Former School Board Member and Assemblywoman Jackie Goldberg helps secure "non-endorsement" of LAUSD School Board President Monica Garcia for reelection, by Los Angeles County Democratic Party.

Progressive Public Education Stalwart Jackie Goldberg.

In a hot, crowded room jammed with fellow collectivists, two educational gordas of Los Angeles Public Education duel over the future of public-finance childhood indoctrination within LAUSD.
Former School Board Member and Assemblywoman Jackie Goldberg, representing the traditional unionist public school indoctrinators and current LAUSD School Board President Monica Garcia, the face of Mayor Villar’s For Profit Charter School Education Machine, sought to sway the assembled collectivist fellow travelers, in supporting their respective future vision of LAUSD.
Goldberg arose and stated the case for not endorsing Garcia to another term in office, as reported by Hillel Aron at the LA School Report Blog.

“It hurts me to speak against her,” said former City Councilmember and school teacher Jackie Goldberg, who supported Garcia four years ago but now regrets it. “Her leadership on giving our schools away to charters… has broken my heart.”

When Garcia was given the chance to speak, she passed on using a microphone and bellowed ....

Garcia herself declined to use the microphone, but with her booming voice pointed out that “any Democrat that has endorsed in this race has endorsed me.”

....... but at the end of the evening, Garcia went home without the endorsement of her party. Match point Goldberg and UTLA.

** KPCC's excellent City Hall Reporter Frank Stoltze has the backgound on the other endorsement actions of the Los Angeles County Collectivistcrats. Of interest was CD 1 City Council Candidate Gil Cedillo's move to deny challenger CD 1 Chief of Staff Jose Gardea party support in their election duel.

** Downtown News Editor and "Scribe of Wit" Jon Regardie, shares his thoughts on the must watch races in March, we post an excerpt below for review.

Ninth District Battle Royale: Who will replace Jan Perry in the district that includes the L.A. Live campus and the Figueroa Corridor? Good luck figuring it out, as at least five folks have a legitimate shot at the runoff. LAPD Deputy Chief Terry Hara is the big fundraising leader to date, but some question whether a Japanese American can win the heavily Latino and African American district. Ana Cubas, the former chief of staff to José Huizar, is angling for the women and Latino blocs, but like others in the race she recently moved into the Ninth and is susceptible to charges of carpetbagging. Ex-USC government relations worker David Roberts has a deep history in the area and claims key endorsements including Downtown’s Central City Association, but he, former state Assemblyman Mike Davis and state Sen. Curren Price (a favorite of organized labor) are all pursuing the black vote. Again, this race could be decided by knocking on doors.

** President Barack "H" Obama's Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis has tendered her resignation. The former local state politician, is the local labor choice to replace fiscal moderate LA County Board of Supervisor Gloria Molina when she terms out in 2014.

Your thoughts ..............

Obama, Garcetti and Goldberg

Apparently all the problems in Los Angeles have been solved since Mayor Villaraigosa went to Texas for a fundraiser with Henry Cisneros and Council President Eric Garcetti is campaigning for Barack Obama in Nevada.  You have to give Councilmembers Greig Smith and Dennis Zine, both Republicans, credit for not putting Council business aside to attend the Republican National Convention in September.

Hearing some chatter, is it possible the Council President's name is being floated as a choice for Secretary of Housing and Urban Development in a potential Obama administration?  Garcetti was but one of a few local L.A. electeds to join the Obama train early when the Mayor banked his political capital on Hillary Clinton.

That being said, Garcetti isn't taking any chances and is running for re-election, having raised so far nearly half a million dollars for a race that he will probably have no opposition in.

However, were Garcetti to pack up his partner and head to Washington, D.C. it would open the door to a parade of candidates seeking to replace him.  And who could be part of that pack? None other than termed out former Assembly Member "Hurricane" Jackie Goldberg, Garcetti's predecessor.  Thanks to the recent affirmation of the City's shady term limits law by a panel of judges, Hurricane has another four years coming to her if she wants it.

"Hurricane" Jackie Goldberg Uses Kids as Props in Campaign Against Jamiel's Law

When you look up "radical lefty" in the dictionary, Jackie Goldberg's picture is right there. The former 60s Berkeley radical turned schoolteacher, school board member, Clowncil member and then state legislator is about as hard nosed a liberal as they come. Even liberals say, "Wow, she's liberal!"

So that's why it was no surprise this morning when "Hurricane" Jackie showed up to Council Chambers with kids in tow wearing pro Special Order 40 t-shirts. Zuma Dogg on the scene phoned this tip into us; when he asked Hurricane what she was up to she replied "I'm here for the kids!"

Aren't they all?

Zuma promises video later today. Stay tuned.
