Times Reportedly Investigating Controversial Galatzan Mailer
Following our scoop over the weekend that City Council candidate and School Board Member Tamar Galatzan may have spent LAUSD taxpayer funds on a mailer designed to raise her profile among CD2 voters just as absentee ballots were hitting mailboxes, we hear the LA Times is looking into the matter at the request of an opponent.
Much remains to be known about Tamar's mailer such as did LAUSD pay for it, did it only go to addresses in the CD2 portion of Galatzan's board member district and did the mailer comply with state law as to the use of public official postage requirements around the time of an election.
Sources are telling the Sister City that representatives of Galatzan opponent Chris Essel have allegedly shopped this weekend's revelation here at Mayor Sam to the LA Times and that the paper is currently investigating. It will be interesting to see what the former fishwrap of record comes up with. Stay tuned.

I live in CD2 and today I got my 2nd mailer from LAUSD Board Member Tamar Galatzan.
The first one was the red puzzle piece. The second one has a blue ethernet cable one it. Both have the questionnaire.
Does the Times have any reporters left on the payroll?

Though just about every tip Zuma has ever given me has been accurate this one did not come from him. You'd be impressed if I told you who but I can't.

Speaking of mailers: didn't the LA Times also report last Wednesday (19th) that Candidate Krekorian, the Assemblyman from Burbank, also had a mailer that implied the City Council should NOT have used $30 Million for Cirque du Soleil, but rather for Firefighter salaries? Knowing and it's been reported in the paper, channel 35, etc., that Federal funds could not be used in place of public safety funds.
Wasn't this just another ethical rip-off of the Public, using an image that he is all for the citizens and property owners. So when a home owner opens their mail box he/she will say: "see, Paul would have used that money on something important! Not the already wealthy Hollywood entertainers."
Couldn't Krekorian have called his buddy Koretz, who endorsed him before day one, and asked: "Hey Paul, you voted Aye for the Cirque, could have we also pay fire and police salaries from the same money?" Another form of bait and switch, but a picture is worth a thousand words. I'm sorry, I mean 30 million words.
Higby why haven't you reported on the calls Tamar made to principals in the Valley trying to get the Mommy bloggers to stop criticizing Tamar.
“Businesses need an advocate in City Council,” said Krekorian. Like the other candidates, he said streamlining permitting processes is crucial to make the city more business friendly.
“One of the biggest problems that pushes businesses out of Los Angeles is having to deal with the faceless, grey bureaucracy that is City Hall, and not being able to penetrate through the byzantine permitting process that our neighboring cities don’t have," Krekorian said. "It’s just a lot easier to get things done in Burbank or Glendale or Santa Monica, or Santa Clarita. What we need is a Council that will fight to get through the bureaucratic red tape on behalf of businesses.”

Yes, thanks for reminding Higby about Tamar telling a principal to tell a parent/blogger to back off criticism of Tamar. Tamar Galtzan's Decietful LAUSD Mailer is MORE Than Shady
ALRIGHT, it's official...time to wave your finger in front of you and say, "SHAME ON YOU, TAMAR GALATZAN!" YOU HURT KIDS! And not only that, your LAUSD mailers, are indeed...PURPOSEFULLY DECEIVING IN MY OPINION. Here's the scenario on the mailers as seen through the bamboozle-busting eye of L.A. City Council Candidate David Saltsburg, better-known in the community as, "Zuma Dogg."
First of all, the LAUSD mailers that Tamar Galatzan sent out to people in CD 2 over the weekend WAS NOT paid for with taxpayer money. IT WAS, HOWEVER, paid for out of her LAUSD Officeholder's Account.
The money was transferred into that account from her Tamar Galatzan for Boardmember Campaign Contribution account when she ran for LAUSD school board, which you all remember because it was not that long ago that she was running for school board. (Yes, she's walking away from her committment from schools and kids and parents if she gets her wishes of leaving the school board in favor of the bigger and longer pay-day as L.A. City Councilgoeralonger. (And yes, when asked at the Sunland-Tujunga candidate forum about how she felt if voter approved a pay cut from $180,000 to $90,000, how she felt. She shook her head "no" and said, as someone with a family of five (was it five?) she couldn't afford the pay cut. So in other words, she is doing it as a money-gig and snubbed at doing it for only a mere $90,000.)
Anyway, it's all relevant, and here we go:
When Tamar had her LAUSD campaign account, she had two accounts. The infamous campaign account with the approximately $2 million raised privately by Mayor Anotnio Villariagosa.
She also had her own separate Tamar for Member/Shember and it had approximately $150,000, or so in the account.
A WHOPPING $100,000 OF THAT WAS DONATED BY ONE SINGLE PERSON, CASEY WASSERMAN.
You may know Casey Wasserman's name, not only as a relative of MGM mogul Lou Wasserman, but of Casey's own Green Dot Charter School support. Wasserman is also a big supporter of the LAUSD reform motion being voted on tomorrow (Aug 25) by Tamar Galatzan, who is still a school board member. So I expect Tamar to vote, "Yes" on the motion, and I would also expect her to "thank" Casey Wasserman for his contribution to this motion. Maybe she'll use the word, "effort" instead of "contribution" come to think of it.
Now here's the part that hurts kids and schools and will sicken you:
Out of the $150,000-$160,000, (approx) in the LAUSD campaign account, SIXTY THOUSAND OF IT ($60,000) WAS LEFT IN THE CAMPAIGN FUND AND TRANSFERRED INTO HER LAUSD OFFICE HOLDER ACCOUNT!!!!
And what does she use it for? Books, computers, after school programs, another teacher, a tutor for a kid...whatever you could think of to help out in this budget crisis -- what does Tamar Galatzan spend it on?:
SENDING OUT AN LAUSD FLIER THAT SAYS, "There is MUCH, MUCH more to do..." EVEN THOUGH IF SHE GETS HER WAY AND WISH...SHE WILL BE WALKING AWAY FROM ALL THAT "MUCH-MUCH" MORE TO DO!!! In other words, just when the absentee ballots hit the mailboxes, SO DOES TAMAR'S FLIER ABOUT HOW MUCH PROGRESS SHE HAS MADE (laughable comments) AS LAUSD SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER. In other words, she is sending out a flier touting how great she is...AS BALLOTS ARE IN THE SAME MAILBOX AND SHE IS HOPING THEY VOTE HER AWAY FROM LAUSD AND THE COMMITMENTS SHE MAKES IN THE FLIER.
Trutanich has not endorsed Tamar, E$$el or anyone in the CD2 race. He will not endorse anyone in the CD2 race because his policy is only to endorse candidates for judicial and law enforcement posts. Higby, why don't you email him and confirm this?
So whoever is spreading the "Nuch endorsed..." rumors is just another 4:22PM - a sore loser.
Tamar's mailer will be her downfall.

Galatzan's lawyer, Stephen Kaufman, said there was nothing improper about the mailers, which do not mention Galatzan's council candidacy. He said she was merely trying to communicate with her constituents about school issues.
I hope Zuma Dogg will mention the movie "Tropic Thunder" when he talks about these problems causing his rivals campaigns to explode. I always get a kick out of it when he does that.

Galatzan's mailer is STRICTLY prohibited in LA Municipal Code, NO MATTER WHAT STEPHAN KAUFMAN ESQ SAYS.
49.7.12 (a)8. ...no mailing may be produced or sent at officeholder expense between the time the elected City officer has filed a “Declaration of Intent to Become a Candidate” for any elective City office and the date of the election at which the person appears on the ballot."
Kaufman might argue that state law trumps LA law for a school board member, but he argued the exact opposite in court when Pugliese invoked state law against the city clerk accepting a bogus ballot designation for his opponent in the school board race.

Maeve Reston and David Z, like Orlov and the rightwing talkshows, sit and read this blog and then write up the biased comments of spinners for other campaigns as though they were grassroots fact. Just as they did with Weiss. Not that there's any connection between Tamar and him beyond that - just that they're both recipients of Shallman's dirty tricks and ability to pull the strings of these Times "reporters."
Krekorian's guy Hacopian is piling on with Shallman, Higby, so don't pretend he's above this dirty play.
Hacopian accuses Tamar of aiming her mention of the Assembly against him, when all she does is ask voters their general opinion. Even while Krekorian is campaigning as a member of the Assembly. But you're right that his whole hit was probably orchestrated by master of dirty tricks Shallman, using his playbook for Nuch's dirty campaign.
