Misc CD2 Crap for a Saturday Night

Zuma Dogg says that supporters of Tamar Galatzan are urging him to back down on his anti-Galatzan rhetoric as it is hurting her chance. Do they think he cares? Uh, he's running against her. The Doggster sums it up at his blog saying "Do not call Zuma Dogg and be a big crybaby saying how Zuma Dogg is going to split the vote from Tamar "Goes Along" Galatzan and allow "Empty Vessel" E$el and Krackorian make it into the run-off together. TOO BAD!"

Writer Paul Hatfield (via Joe B's CD2 Blog) disects where the votes in CD2 lie and says the key battle is who is going to get most of the rest of the pie after Paul Krekorian eats about a third of it.  He agrees that Zuma Dogg is a potential spoiler but that Galatzan is as well.  He opines however that Galatzan and Essel are vulnerable and that it's not out of the question that Zuma Dogg, Frank Sheftel or even Michael McCue could conceivably outpoll the Mayor's two favorite candidates and be in a run-off with Krekorian.  Most interesting in Hatfield's analysis is that he feels Zuma Dogg actually servers to increase voter turnout.

Zuma Dogg, and anyone else with a cartoon-like nickname, will have absolutely no effect on this or any other election. The only people who will know about him will be those who attend a candidates forum, which will be a tiny number of people.

He doesn't have the money or supporters to tell people who he is and what his message is.

Newspaper coverage of the candidates will be sparce, and television coverage, the way that most people get their information, will be non-existent.

Speaking of the CD2 pie slices, what happened to the candidates poll on www.ourla.org. Seemed Frank Sheftel had pulled ahead by over 40 points and the system went down. It has been under reapair for over a week. Seems like there has been plenty of activity on the rest of the site. I guess the endorsement of the people is not as important as that of the Special Interest Groups... Except at the ballot box!

Our neighborhood group of concerned CD-2 citizens met today. We analyzed the candidates, their positions and their track records. We have decided to endorse David Saltsman and intend to put the full weight of our organization behind him. Say what you want about him but he has a better City Council attendance record than most of the current sitting council people.

This district always gets the short shrift as our elected council representatives always leave us when something better comes along, i.e. Joel Wachs and Wendy Greuel.

Candidates Tamar Galatzan and Paul Kerkorian have already demonstrated that they will leave their duly elected positions when something better comes along. They're really nothing more than political opportunists. Galatzan wants to raise your taxes on her way out of LAUSD. Kerkorian won't even take a position on releasing 27,000 criminals from the prisons. If either of them were to get this seat, you can count on them taking off when the Mayor's seat opens up or when Wendy Greuel abandons her seat to run for Mayor.

Candidate Chris Essel is really not prepared for this position and was only put up for this race so she could do the bidding of the Mayor and all the special interests that are funding her campaign.

You all may look at these three candidates' fundraising reports and be impressed, however we look at them as bought and paid for by all the corporate and special interest money that's purchased these candidates.

You won't have to worry about any of that with David Saltsman because he will not be indebted to these corporate interests.

It's time we elect an outsider to go into City Hall who will speak for the people, and not their own selfish ambitions.

Please join us as this district makes history by electing an outsider to a City Council seat, and we all begin to turn this city around.

mayor sam, if you're spending all this time on zuma dogg's blog, why did you fail to mention that he says he was booted out of his apartment?

selective editing and you just happened to think that's irrelevant?

how about having some credibility for a change?

LA Daily Blog Weekend Update: (August 22, 2009)

The BIG News in my life is that the cranky juice is back as I am operating on $0.00 for the second day and haven't eaten today...AND the rug got pulled out from under me with my apartment over political reasons. SO I WILL BE HOMELESS AS OF 7AM ON SUNDAY MORNING

ZD should not back off Tamar Galatzan. He needs to keep digging because his instincts are right. Anyone who rose like a star under Rocky Delgadillo's corrupt administration should be the target of serious investigation.

Even if ZD backs off, there are others who will out her.

The damage to her campaign will come all by itself and will be her own doing as soon as some of you investigative types start doing a little homework.

Check out Tracy Rafter, of the Rafter Group, she's one of Tamar's many friends on Facebook.

Ask Tamar how she knows Tracy Rafter?

Is it through work, perhaps?

Ask Tamar to tell you what Tracy Rafter did for the City Attorney's Office?

If Tamar's answers don't seem to make sense, file a Public Records Act request with the City Attorney's Office to find the truth.

Tamar's chickens are coming home etc. etc.

"You can’t rule out Sheftel, Benson, Sanchez, McCue or even Zuma Dogg from nosing out Galatzan and Essel."

This is where you know that when it comes to electoral politics, Hatfield has no idea what he's talking about.

It's not that these candidates are bad people, they just do not have the tools or know-how of getting enough voters to vote and more importantly, to vote for them. Its cute though, how someone actually thinks that the poll on OurLA is a true indicator of what CD 2 voters think.

Somebody, please, make matt Dowd and David Saltsburg (and Mike Hunt) just go away.

How an anyone think with those three constantly vying for attention and changing the subject to THEM?

While I'm undecided about Essel I disagree that she is unprepared for the post.

She had a good reputation at Paramount and on various appointed boards.

She certainly isn't a polished speaker/politician but that stuff is all just window dressing compared to the actual responsibilities of the job.

Like Zumma Dogg or not,he does have an effect on the election. He knows the issues and stands up for what is right.

He may have a different way of doing things but he does know what he is doing and stands up to the city council. He does make a difference.

Your comment looks very suspicious when you say you are going to endorse a candidate, but don't even know his name.

It's "Saltsburg" , not "Saltsman"

On the OurLA.org poll, you can vote over and over for the same person. All you have to do is close your browser and re-open it. Completely bogus poll. Completely bogus. Not even fun to look at the unscientific results cause you can just click the same name over and over.

It is not a question of who is prepped for the job, the more important question is whose side are any of these candidates on.

Essel is on the side of the AV, AEG and the downtown insider crowd.

It's one of those "if a tree falls in forest and no one is around to hear it ......" questions regarding ZD and other minor candidates.

If you don't have a means to connect with the voters, such as people who will give you money or get out walk precincts for you, nobody will have the slighest idea who you are and what you're about.

9:24 am,

Do you really think it's suspicious or more of a case of calling someone "Zuma Dogg" for so long and not used to his real name. Would it be suspicious if I posted something about someone and spelled it Szabo instead of Sabo? I don't think the spelling of the name is the issue here.

Are you saying ZD hasn't connected with people and they don't know who he is and what he is about? You sure do spend a lot of time talking about someone who is a minor candidate. And you sure do spend a lot of time trying to spin ZD for someone who doesn't matter. If anything, I take that as a sign that some of the other campaigns are nervous. Not a lot of time in this election for these people to buy what Zuma already has.

Zuma Dogg should be the councilperson. If not him, then the only other person is Krekorian.

Neither of those two women who are considered to be the "big three" will do a damn thing for the district.

Zuma will do the most good for the community (go ahead and laugh you Zuma haters out there. both of you.) and either of those two women will do the most damage.

I must say, it thrills me to see all of these pro-Zuma comments.

Every time someone types anti-Zuma comments in all caps, I just know for a fact that Zuma is the right person for this job.

It's not about campaign money. It's not about who the other council people will get along with. It's about who will do the right thing for CD 2 and like the person who says that instinctively, Zuma knows what needs to be done, is right.

I agree, 6:33. Zuma is focused, BEYOND well-informed, determined to expose corruption,AND he IS accessible and listens to the people! He's NOT some wheeler-dealer w/ a huge corporation to run and ugly condos to build, he has no pseudo-"wholesome" nuclear family to pose with on some slick mailer. I really admire Zuma Dogg and will support him in current and future endeavors. Now...the past couple of days I've been barraged w/ ridiculous propaganda from Essel. Look at phony-ass smile! Doesn't she look exactly like The Joker? Way more than Obama ever will!
