Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Tuesday

For years many citzens have complained about the mega-fee waivers the City of Los Angeles gives to events such as the Oscars and Grammys.  Now, following the uproar over the millions of dollars spent by the City on the Michael Jackson funeral those days may be over.  The LA Times reports that in September the City Council will consider forcing the organizers of these events to pay for security, traffic control, etc.  About time.

CD2 Candidate Frank Sheftel takes the time to sit for an interview at LAStreetsblog.  In addition to discovering Sheftel is against a plan to lease out the City's parking meters Sheftel says he sometime rides a ZIP 750 Electric Scooter to work.

Zuma Dogg, also a candidate for CD2, challenges fellow challenger Tamar Galatzan to a debate while accusing her campaign handlers of using material from his blog for her talking points. In the meantime revelations that the LAUSD is considering property tax increases is not helping Galatzan's campaign. In the meantime Zuma discovers his residence in Studio City is just blocks from candidate Chris Essel's rented CD2 apartment.

Speaking of Essel she's now raised more money than all the candidates combined.  And she's done so with the contributions of great CD2 denizens such as Barbra Streisand and Vlade Divac who are well aware of what Sunland-Tujunga, West Van Nuys and North Hollywood need.

on LAUSD. : we begged for NO votes on all bonds. now the LAUSD can collect by law all the shoetfall. The Mayor finally got his boy Cortines into the super job, so he can be the bad guy and dish out all the bad news. [the school cuts and tax hikes]

the money's gone though.

the problem with America right now is that the government elect is trying to bankrupt the country with ill advised stimulus and attempted socialism, instead of leaving the free open market to level the field and preserving the American ideal of working for a living and buying your health insurance.

I'm all for reform of the insurance industry but the US government probably should not be trusted to run any more of the country.
The budget deficit is a trillion dollars. A million million.

However, the only real power is in the hand of the consumer. If you don't like the economy right now, don't expect the government to fix it. They're just emptying the treasury now and indebting future generations. Your children.

The trick now is to buy LESS and pay MORE for it:

here's what I mean.. STOP buying unnecessary plastic things and crap from Walmart and Home Depot.
All these 'things' seem wonderful and helpful {from phones down to towel racks) but if you apply the 'do I really NEED it?' formula, many things can be dropped. If you really really need something, then PAY MORE for it by buying American. Americans need the money.
Everything you buy that's imported is polluting your world and draining our collective wallet.

Oil - polluter
computer item: polluter
plastic item: polluter

Eight years of Bush admin taking the country to war and draining the treasury into halliburton and all their war resource industries. so then Obama sounds like a good idea, and all the do gooders vote him in and now he wants to Un Americanize America.

The FIRST thing that Obama should address is illegal immigration, illegal workers, and all the money those illegals are earning under the table from private developers in construction, and STOP ALL THE CASH that these illegals are sensing out of the country.

the money needs to stay here right now.
its over for this country if the bleeding doesn't stop NOW.

Federal treasury needs to stop bleeding.
And skip buying that new gizmo or hybrid. just SAVE the money and build a little bank account right now.

This is my biggest ever post and maybe the most important.

Open a bank account people and start depositing. You may well need it later. Skip a weekend trip, or an expensive meal, and put that money in the account.
if you have to, travel in America, not overseas.

The power is in the hands of the people, not government.
If you wait for the US government to save you, lol .
They save the rich first, its America.

Eventually USA and Canada will merge currency like the Euro. maybe Mexico too.

the future is an insular America, self sustaining, the whole continent, because sending money to Asia is a trap.

Since when did Kevin Roderick become another bitch of the PPL or excuse me the Political Union once known as the Police union? I notice he's one of 3 listed on their website and Kevin now is posting the progaganda bullshit from the police union. What happened to him having his own mind and doing his own dirty work? I've asked around and people are saying he needs money so maybe the PPL is paying him like they do everyone that do their dirty work. The PPL goons like Paul Weber dont' have ethics but somewhat surprising Kevin would even be aligned with that corrupt union

umm, actually I've attempted to redress the government when its violated the people. or even talking about violating the people.
and I've stood up in federal court and challenged attempts by the City of Los Angeles to pervert the Constitution of the United States.

you call it gadfly, I say potato.

I'm as American as it gets. been a massive advocate of American guitars for twenty years. I own an original 1962 Fender Stratocaster, that I hunted for and finally found in 1991, that's how long I've been a fan of Made in America.
I use to cruise around as a kid in my older brothers and friends 1957 Ford Customlines and 1961 Fairlanes back in the early 70's in downtown Auckland New Zealand.
All my friends collect classic American Mustangs and Camaros back in New Zealand.
Been doing that since the early 70's.

I made my first trans USA car ride in January 1985, on a visit here to hang with my homies in Philly. we drove New York to LA, then flew to Hawaii and back.

here's what I'm talking about though, 8.32

I'll leave when its not America anymore....

and that feels close.

in fact, it feels more like China here, everything I touch has a Made In China sticker on it, and my political speech is being repressed.

Just now the Parks and Rec denied me off the beach for a week because I've been 'issued' two violations. Not convicted, not processed, not examined. Just issue the 2 violations and boom, ur banned from the Boardwalk.

its the same shit they did to Michael Hunt, that's why we sued, that's why a jury awardeed $264,000, plus 207,000 fees.

denial of First Amendment with a 14th amendment violation, no due process.

and they let bunches of 'vendors' with no First Amendment content to their vending, into these lotteries to take all the spaces from genuine activities.

If you want the government to CONTROL you, manipulate you, and then break you, then you're against me. simple.

there's a Constitution and some principles. I don't remember the one that says the government may over ride your 14th amendment and restrict your free expression and liberty to pursue happiness.

if you don't fight for them, you lose them.

I will not apologise here or anywhere, for fighting for the Constitution.

I'm less liberal, and more conservative by the second, having seen what the Dems and Obama are trying to do.
Phil J and I will eventually even do lunch. that's how bad Obama is doing.

I totally get it Matt.

Don't think I won't be thinking twice about saving money (even money that I don't have). I'm not purchasing anything right now and as one from the midwest, our mantra back there is, Buy American! I never got that until I was much older and learned about outsourcing.

Back when Hondas and Toyotas really were built in Japan and all Chevrolet, Ford and Chrysler parts really were made strictly in the USA, we were taught (I guess by my "Socialist" parents) never ever to buy foreign items. Back then half of the labels said, Made in the USA or else Made in China. We as kids, had to buy the Made in USA items always.

I think those wild Socialistic parents of mine were on to something important. If my father were alive to see the country today, he would be dismayed.

So let's see if I understand this.

ZD has ideas but nobody pays attention to him for some strange reason. Then another candidate says the same things, which he didn't copyright, and he gets mad.

So his solution is to challenge that candidate to a debate. Just them I suppose. While at the same time he complains that VICA has limited its forum to just three people.

And he wonders why no one takes him seriously.

If he really is as popular as he says he is, I wonder how many people he has walking precincts for him and helping out.

He would need several thousand to overcome the money that the other candidates can raise.

THIS IS THE DUMBEST THING POSTED. PLEASEEEE. EVERYONE KNOWS BRATTON HAS HIS OWN MIND AND IS NOT GOING TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE GANG BANGER MAYOR

ANOTHER STUPID ALLEGATION. PLEASE STOP MAKING ME LAUGH WITH THIS NONSENSE. I AGREE WITH ZUMA IT HAS MORE TO DO WITH NOT WANTING TO DEAL WITH AN IDIOT MAYOR IS WHY BRATTON SAID SEE YA!!!

Dowd- Leave the healthcare debate to the other blogs. Not relevant here and your rant makes to sense anyway. We need reform of the health care system and we need to bring everyone into the system to make it work. And if people could more easily change jobs without worrying about losing healthcare coverage, we could actually increase efficiency and job satisfaction -- an important set of conservative goals.

Angelenos always vote for elected officials that have ties with special interest groups. Once elected, the elected official(s) are loyal to their campaign contributors, special interet groups, and not the people who voted for him or her.

Don’t vote based on the 20 second TV ads or colorful fliers, which is what the special interest money will buy and used to fool the voters. The candidate who raises the most money is NOT always the most qualified person for the job.

I would like to ask the question to those that are making fun of what Matt Dow. What if Matt is saying is true?

“All truth goes through three stages. First it is ridiculed. Then is violently opposed. Finally it is accepted as self-evident.” Schoepenhouer

“Condemnation without investigation is the height of ignorance” Albert Einstein

People that come from other countries know more about the Constitution of the United States that those that are born here. You have a great Constitution and yet you do not appreciate it or work at maintaining it. You are loosing it and yet you are blind to it.

“Democracy is not something you inherit but something you have to work for everyday”

“Patriotism is about love of one’s country not worship of government.”

The sheeple continue to go along asleep to what is going around. Distracted with all their entertainment TV, sports, etc. or divided. Seeing each other as the enemy instead to come together to save this country and themselves.

Wake up people, investigate.

Did anyone hear Tamar Galatzan on Doug McIntyre this morning? She was being interviewed about the increase in property taxes caused by LAUSD's school building bond.

The first thing out of her mouth was "When the voters voted for the bond..." I lost count of the number of times she blamed "the voters" for this unfortunate consequence of "the voters" decision to support this bond measure.

I think Tamar's spin on this is very telling. She's not taking any responsibility for the tax hike. It's got absolutely nothing to do with LAUSD or herself, it's "the voters" who have caused the problem.

I hope "the voters" will make sure they exercise a little more caution when the CD2 election is held, and send Tamar back to LAUSD.

His life is a lie and he passes through it as if in a dream, making it up as he goes along.

The sick part is the fools that support and feed his fantasy, especially Michael Higby.

It is a cruel thing that you do, Michael, because one day he will awaken from his dream and see that it is one big, overpowering lie.

What happens then is YOUR responsibility.

Doug was saying on his show this morning that the LAUSD Board didn't "vote for" or against the extra tax, that it was written into the bond proposition as with all bonds. The voters weren't told clearly enough that they are guaranteed to keep LAUSD from defaulting, so included in the language somewhere in the fine print is how the tax can be added without further vote if income falls below a certain point.

It's in fine print no one remembers seeing, and he's going to research if it's even there or we're just supposed to know it.

This is why I never vote for bonds because they are always just property taxes not billed as such and NOW we're finding they can add upto a thousand or more a year BEYOND the hundreds in the first place. YET the budget analysis on the ballots is "no fiscal impact" which is a lie -- sure the impact is all on homeowners, the sitting ducks of this city.

Because so many have left and because LA has more poor people including more illegals than anywhere else, we have a small minority of people who bears all the burden. That's been behind the homeowner group activism which has won the recent elections, because they organize and vote.

That's not all a good thing because they ignore many groups like young single renters, students, environmentalists who cycle or want to take public transport in principle, etc.

We have a very narrow interest group angrily taking charge of the city with their issues because all this tax the homeowners and then renege on promises to them has turned this unlikely group of mostly older cranky people into angry activists, while the rest are too busy working or distracted to get so involved in local politics and vote.

RE: Matt Dowd's comments

Matt Dowd has made some pretty critical comments about me...but that is his right, as I made myself a public figure by running for Mayor. I take no offense to it.

There are things I don't like about Matt Dowd... politically, we are very different.

But there are also things I do like about him.

Although he was born in another country, he loves freedom and American culture.

He understands that our government is violating our Constitutional rights and that the offenses are only getting more and more egregious under Obama.

He realizes that personal freedom is under attack here in America. He hates that.

I have no doubt Matt and I will someday be friends and have lunch together. We agree on a lot of issues.
