LAUSD Land Deals - 'The Jihad' - Part III

Here are two editorial pieces from earlier this week on how our current Mayor is handling the LAUSD situation.

LA Times Editorial
vs.
Daily News Editorial

In a seldom found role reversal, the LA Times finds fault in the Mayor's LAUSD plans while the Daily News waxes poetic and misses the target. Anyways...

On Wednesday Villaraigosa went out on the stump with Romer to announce his support for ballot Measure Y on the special election ballot in November that funds new school construction.

Wonder who wins out on those deals. Maybe it his the people mentioned in the LAUSD Land Deals part 1 and 2...We'll look further in to the money chain tomorrow.

Here's the other rub. It was also announced today that 3 years running the enrollment at LAUSD has dropped, causing about a $100 million loss in funding from the state next year.

Wonder where the kids are going? I guess we'll have to look in to that as well...

THERE'S NO WAY VOTERS CAN SUPPORT YET ANOTHER BOND MEASURE. SCHOOL SCORES ARE POOR. CRENSHAW H.S. LOSES ITS ACCREDIDATION. THE DROP OUT RATE IS OVER 50%. THIS SCHOOL DISTRICT IS BUNGLING THE FUTURE OF OUR KIDS AND WANTS MORE MONEY FOR THEIR FAILED LEADERSHIP.

Look into who's making al lthe money off these bond measures. It is obvious the contractors are, look at Huizar's donor list. But you know who else, campaign consultants. Larry Tramatola, Cesar Chavez former hatchet man, went from organizing farmworkers for $5 a week to making millions off bond measure - school district, local municipal, state - everything. Parke Skelton has also made a lot of easy money off bond measures. Both of these guys are tied to Larry Franks and all are intimate with Villaraigosa.

Antonio is truly the classic "Clown of LA." How in the hell can he think voters want yet another bond measure when enrollment is down and there is a high dropout rate? Is he as dumb as he looks? On KCAL last night he said he will campaign yet again to help get this bond passed. Doesn't he ever do his damn job? I've never heard of a Mayor campaigning for a bond measure. Can he do this on our taxdollars and city time??

Get used to it L.A.. This is the main reason Huizar is getting his ass handed to him in the 14th District. Too bad for Huizar, he had such a bright future. But, that's the way the cookie crumbles. Jihad? Tony is going to Israel?

Villaraigosa has long had strong ties with the Jewish community. He grew up in Boyle Heights, a former Jewish enclave that became Latino. A Jewish teacher and mentor paid for him to take his college boards. And leading Jewish progressives and funders supported his political rise early on. Weiss said that Villaraigosa already has been to Israel twice before.

But Consul General Danoch, a fluent Spanish speaker, spied another semblance of connection. Danoch’s parents are originally from Yemen and when they “saw a picture of Antonio on television, they told Ehud that he looked like a Yemenite,” Weiss said. “The mayor got a big kick out of that.”

LAUSD LAND DEALS, THE JIHAD...WELL, VILLARAIGOSA HAS A GOOD FLORIDA FRIEND, ACTUALLY MANY FLORIDA FRIENDS CONNECTED TO AIRPORT CONTRACTS, DEVELOPERS, ETC...

ONE OF THEM IS SERGIO PINO. PLZ READ.

BUILDER INTERESTED

"Sergio Pino, a leading home builder in South Florida, said he was ready to expand his operations into Cuba once Castro was gone. He said his company, Century Homebuilders, and Lennar, a national builder based in Miami, are even helping draft building codes that could go into place once Cuba becomes an open market."

ANOTHER FRIEND JOSE CANCELA

Jose Cancela wants to turn Cuba's state-run media into a profit-making enterprise

"He said Castro controls an impressive broadcast empire: The country has four island-wide television networks, 16 regional television stations, and between 70 and 90 radio stations.

''The infrastructure is in place,'' said Cancela, a former Univision and Telemundo executive who was also president of Radio Unica when it went bankrupt in 2003. He predicted that within seven years, Cuban media could grow into a $900 million industry.

But Peters, the Lexington Institute analyst, said Cuban media holdings may not be the cash cow Cancela expects.

''In that business, you're blazing a trail because there's no paid advertising in Cuba right now,'' Peters said. ``Is there enough purchasing power in the market to support that?''

Re "Should the mayor run the schools?" (Oct. 7):
Instead of taking over the LAUSD, the mayor should take over the INS and enforce the laws of the land regarding illegal aliens. Then he could solve the low test scores and dropout rates at the LAUSD, the gang problem, the graffiti problem and the closing of all the emergency rooms. He could do all that from one throne. 1. We're over-taxed as it is.
2. LAUSD's drop-out rate and failure rate is abysmal.
3. Why build more schools when enrollment is declining?
4. Instead of building more schools from scratch, how about adapting the many existing vacant buildings all over town? It's not like the new schools have any grass or trees as it is.
5. When I'm mayor, you'll be able to take your kids out of the shameful LAUSD internment camps and put them in private schools.

VOTE YES ON PROP 75. Do we need to control union spending OUR HARD EARNED money into POLITICIANS POCKETS?

YES WE DO!

Proposition 75 “Paycheck Protection”
Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is Paycheck Protection?

Proposition 75, also known as “Paycheck Protection,” gives workers like police officers, firefighters and teachers the right to choose whether or not union dues money from their paychecks should be used for political purposes. It simply requires public labor unions to get consent from employees before deducting money from their paychecks for political purposes.

Union bosses currently spend hundreds of millions of dollars, taken without permission from workers’ paychecks, on political activities that their members may not even agree with. If you are a Democrat, you should not be forced to pay for campaigns, which support Republicans, and vice-versa. Proposition 75 simply gives workers a choice as to whether or not they want their money used for politics by their union.

Nothing Cock or Bull about it Tofu Girl.

I think what you are seeing is the pollster trying to push "leans" into one category or another.

And when a responder did not want to answer Huizar or Pacheco you see that the other "non factors" went up. Looking at the results of this poll i'd say that there is a 20% undecided factor.

Also we aren't seeing the "hard" numbers for each candidate. The voters whose minds can't be changed either way, they tend to be the more "intense" voters that pollsters only show in their cross tabs.

Any polling instrument created is never perfect and with 545 likely voters sampled, you can find fault with anything. But Binder has a solid reputation for giving fair numbers for his clients. Perhaps county fed asked Binder to push as much as possible each voter into a column without giving them the option of "undecided" unless they volunteered it. And by the looks of some of the questions it looks like it was a 15-20 minute poll. Looks legit to me, and i've left a message at the county fed for their reaction.

Tofu girl needs to understand the art of creating an instrument before more soy comes out of her.

The delicate balance Hahn is striving to maintain was evident at Parker Center in the last-minute alterations City Councilman Nick Pacheco made to his statement endorsing Hahn. The choice he’d faced, Pacheco’s written statement read, was between “an extremely liberal Democrat, Mr. Villaraigosa, and a ‘law and order’ Democrat, Mr. Hahn.” When Pacheco spoke, though, he amended “law-and-order Democrat” to “law-enforcement Democrat.” No point getting carried away...

Besides, Pacheco’s endorsement was plenty contentious no matter how it was phrased. Standing alongside his City Council colleague Alex Padilla, who’d already endorsed Hahn, Pacheco was effectively announcing an irreparable rift in Latino politics in Los Angeles...

For Pacheco, some of this is simply payback: Villaraigosa supported his opponent when he first ran for the council two years ago, and in this year’s primary, Pacheco supported Xavier Becerra....

It’s not that the dynamic duo is devoid of all deference: Pacheco and Padilla have happily done Mayor Riordan’s bidding for the past several years. Pacheco first came on the scene in 1998, as a member of the elected Charter Reform Commission. There, recalls USC constitutional-law professor Erwin Chemerinsky, who chaired the commission, “He was a very conscientious and hard-working member. In December of 1998, though, when the mayor was pressuring the elected commission to oppose melding our efforts into a single charter [with that of the other, appointed Charter Reform Commission], the mayor offered to endorse Nick [for City Council]. From that point on, Nick always voted to support the mayor’s position on the charter commission.”

Both Padilla and Pacheco, for instance, were among the last council members to support the LAPD’s consent decree with the U.S. Justice Department — even though the consent decree had been placed on the city’s agenda by the LAPD’s abuse of their own constituents. Apparently, standing with their sponsors in the ancien régime mattered more to them than standing up for the interests of their districts.

Now, with Ferraro dead and Riordan leaving office, they have fixed their stars to Jim Hahn — whose campaign capo, attorney Bill Wardlaw, was Riordan’s deal maker with charter commissioners back when Pacheco joined the mayor’s stable. Plainly, they are more comfortable cutting deals with the old order than they are championing the new — even though that new order, the labor-Latino alliance, has done more to better the lives of their constituents in the past five years than the city’s old-guard power elite has in the past hundred. How they explain all this to their constituents will be interesting indeed...
