LAUSD Land Deals - Part II

Yesterday's conversation brought up some good point missed by yours truly in the original post...
What's the connection between Murello and Fernando Guerra. Fernando is teaching at Loyola and heads up the The Center for the Study of Los Angeles, yet he's a registar lobbyist for Murello. You should check out contributions Guerra has made to any and all entities. We all know whats going on here, it's called find out where the district is going and planning facilities and tie up the land, then sell it for a premieum. Murello is slick and will do what it takes to make a buck. You also forgot the IE Murello made in the Mayor's race.
Hmmm. Very good point. I also missed this...
You want to look into LAUSD land deals? Why don't you look into the sweetheart deal LAUSD gave Jose Huizar's sister for her property. Her property in Boyle Heights was purchased when Huizar was president of the school board. Ironically, LAUSD didn't "drop the ball" on this purchase, as Muruelo says they dropped the ball on Taylor Yard before he purchased it and nixed any notion of a Glassel Park High School. LAUSD purchased Huizar's sister's house and yet no schoool has gone up there.
Hmmm. And there was this...
And this is not counting Meruelo's 170k in independent expenditures during the last campaign.
All good points. Sorry for the omissions. Here's the link to the $193,311 in independent expenditures from Meruelo (2005 race only. Previous races not online) for a grand total of $288,911 ($193,311 + $95,600). What's a quarter million dollars amongst friends...

Some people keep bringing up the LAUSD's purchase of a house from Huizar's sister, but they never give any details. Can they back up the allegation of a "sweetheart deal"? I think a lot of people would like to know -- and we would also be interested in knowing if this isn't a politically-motivated smear.

How many adjacent or proximate properties were purchased and where?

When was the purchase and with what justification?

Were the terms of the purchase of either these properties in general or the particular house unusual in any way?

Ask the building inspectors on the Eastside about how they were told to turn a blind eye to Huizar's lack of proper permits to fix up and expand his own home, how he flashed his "I'm LAUSD" status around to get a pass on city requirements -- and how one inspector threatened to take it to the press if his superiors didn't back off and let him do his job.

One courageous nitwit with integrity trying to hold the line against the "old-ninyos" network. . .

One might think this story being bandied about here would be good for Nick, and may help colour the race in his favor.

The truth is, no offense to Mayorsam, that this story would have been much better had it come out in a story by Rick Orlov or in a campaign hit piece.

I'm afraid Nick does not have the staff to accomplish the former; he does not have the money to accomplish the latter.

Huizar is a nice guy, but he is no Pacheco. Have you seen Pacheco's campaign cleaning up the Evergreen jogging path the last two weeks, that's bringing people together! Huizar needs Antonio to get even a small crowd.

In addition to being very poor grammar (LAUSD?), what I think you meant here, is "he has shown he knows who's what to kiss, and when."

That's not "leadership" or bridge-building. It's cronyism. In the current political climate, "bridging" various levels of government is another way of saying, "shutting out" the people who pay for it, and keeping the power base internal, incestuous, and dangerous to the rest of us.

Save it for his next campaign mailer.

I've been by Huizar's house in El Sereno. In fact, I even know his neighbor. They are not very hapy about Huizar's property, although they don't want to tell him. Huizar doesn't have a permit for his garage - look it up. And while other properties are required to have a 5 foot easement on either side of the building, Huizar has only 17 inches! This endanger not only his property, but his neighbors. He also skirted retaining wall requirements, a-la Gloria Molina - his house is on a slope.

Now we know why Huizar hired Parke Skelton to run his campaign. Parke has benefitted greatly from having "high placed" regarding his property on Hermon. How many people get to convert their street into a cul-de-sac?

Yes, as LONG as we let them be, by saying "they ALL do it" - you're right.

But remember what AV said (for the cameras), on Day 1 as mayor. "If anyone tries to drop my name to get favors, you let me know"

(Then behind the cameras he said, "... then, I'll check my list and make sure they PAID me for those favors, in advance, during the last campaign, before you give them the green light.")

Ed Reyes, who worked for the planning department for a number of years, got the inspector on Molina's property fired:

"Reyes, who succeeded Hernandez as the district's councilman, asked for the inspector to be replaced, the file shows."

L.A. Times Article April 14, 2002 titled "City Allowed Supervisors Illegal Wall"

Ed Reyes has Parke Skelton as his consultant, just like Huizar. Now we know why he endorsed Huizar - two peas in a pod - it would be three but Molina wouldn't fit.

So the AV "friends and family" plan lets his buddies get sweatheart deals and property perks, even if they represent public safety hazards (like closing a street, or putting in bad walls and negating setbacks).

GOOD THING we've got integrity in city government, now. Good thing that CROOK, Jim Hahn is gone.

Good thing? Right?

Isn't is?

AV is bringing ethics to city hall, as MUCH "ethics" as your money can buy.

Lets hope the 2nd 100 days is JUST a "profitable."

Also in that article on Molina:

"Chief Investigator Ernest Herrera told Reyes that department protocol would not allow the inspector to be replaced, but he was overruled by Walt Krukow, a higher ranking Building and Safety official, who agreed at the the meeting to replace the inspector."

Is this Mexico - or even worse - Bell Gardens - were inspectors are bought, sold and fired according to the whims of the local political bosses?

Now we know why Huizar wants to be part of "Antonio's Team." Parke, you're making Alatorre and Polanco look like angels.

A smear is something put out that is false and misleading - just like when Parke lied about the Mothers of East L.A. and Nick - name one thing that Pacheco has put out that is false and misleading.

Maybe you should get "real."

ILLEGAL SCHOOL BONDS? SECRET MEETINGS? DECLINING ENROLLMENT??

Los Angeles, CA. Was it legal for the Los Angeles Unified School District to issue $1 Billion plus in non-voter approved bonds in semi-secret meetings over the past several years? And, who advised them to do so? Did anyone challenge the LAUSD actions? The answer to these and many other questions is included in a two-part, one-hour interview by Full Disclosure™ host Leslie Dutton, to be featured on 40 cable systems and on the internet via streaming media beginning Monday, September 12, 2005.

Los Angeles, CA. In a ten minute video blog featured on the Full Disclosure Network™ website via streaming video starting Monday, August 15, 2005 Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Board member David Tokofsky disclosed the existence of an unknown school financing operation which has been concealed from the public eye apparently to avoid scrutiny.

In this video blog Tokofsky describes the process whereby LAUSD Board members, acting as the members of a public benefit corporation called "LAUSD Financing Corporation", approved the execution, sale and delivery of untold millions of dollars in Certificates of Participation (COPs) bonds which are non-voter approved, long term public indebtedness. An exact number of these financing corporations controlled by the LAUSD is unknown by both Tokofsky and Full Disclosure™ at this time.

Tokofsky describes the authority of the mysterious “Financing Corporation” and “Land Bank” which were set up by the LAUSD for the purpose of purchasing land for school sites and various other needs, including hundreds of millions for computer technology.
