CD 14 In The News
After two posts full of red meat yesterday, we couldn't help but come back for round three.
First, I would be remiss if we didn't spotlight the Downtown News piece by Jon Regardie this week: Walking in L.A. With Nick and Jose . He is definitely on to something. Low turnout elections are won by the most effective use of ground operations to pull people from their houses and out to the polling locations. Both operations are in sync, so it will come down to organization and targeting. With a crowded field, odds are no one hits 50%, so the run-off should be even more entertaining.
The Downtown Neighborhood Council Meeting issue re: candidate speaking times were resolved last evening: All candidates in attendance were given 15 minutes to speak. (Thanks to dgarzila for the update) (***Martini Republic also offers a recap in his overnighter)
Newest Huizar Spam (graphics deleted for length of post):
SUPER PUSH SATURDAY!
Join us for our "BIG PUSH SATURDAY" event on October 15, 2005. Districtwide, we will be mobilizing and organizing volunteers for our José Huizar for City Council campaign outreach efforts as Election Day comes.
More Community Groups Endorse Huizar!
The United Firefighters of Los Angeles City and the Sierra Club join Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Los Angeles Police Protective League, the League of Conservation Voters, and others in supporting Jose Huizar for City Council.
Election Day is around the corner and we need your help! Sign up for our GOTV efforts to either phone bank or precinct walk, because we need your help to elect José Huizar to the Los Angeles City Council!

Why is Huizar scraping the barrel so early. Hasn't he raised twice as much money as Pacheco? How is it that Pacheco has more money on hand than Huizar?
Blunder after blunder. Anybody want to know how not to run a campaign, look at Huizar's. All the money he needs, more than enough endorsements, and he's getting his ass handed to him. Parke, where is that poll you conducted? I hear Pacheco's campaign already has all these numbers courtesy of former Huizar campaign workers who see what's coming.

Um, Huizy... "The United Firefighters of Los Angeles City" and the "Sierra Club" are NOT "community groups" by any stretch of the imagination.
Homie, PLEASE! Who's writing your press droppings, interns?

Ask the building inspectors on the Eastside about how they were told to turn a blind eye to Huizar's lack of proper permits to fix up and expand his own home, how he flashed his "I'm LAUSD" status around to get a pass on city requirements -- and how one inspector threatened to take it to the press if his superiors didn't back off and let him do his job.
One courageous nitwit with integrity trying to hold the line against the "old-ninyos" network. . .

The union endorsements are thanks to Antonio cause that's payback. Huizar insiders are already saying he's in deep trouble. Jose will have all those poor kids who don't have a clue walking. Jose stay out of Boyle Heights. They can't stand you because you have nothing to offer except the mess you left at LAUSD.

I've been by Huizar's house in El Sereno. In fact, I even know his neighbor. They are not very hapy about Huizar's property, although they don't want to tell him. Huizar doesn't have a permit for his garage - look it up. And while other properties are required to have a 5 foot easement on either side of the building, Huizar has only 17 inches! This endanger not only his property, but his neighbors. He also skirted retaining wall requirements, a-la Gloria Molina - his house is on a slope.
Now we know why Huizar hired Parke Skelton to run his campaign. Parke has benefitted greatly from having "high placed" regarding his property on Hermon. How many people get to convert their street into a cul-de-sac?

So the AV "friends and family" plan lets his buddies get sweatheart deals and property perks, even if they represent public safety hazards (like closing a street, or putting in bad walls and negating setbacks).
GOOD THING we've got integrity in city government, now. Good thing that CROOK, Jim Hahn is gone.
Good thing? Right?
Isn't is?
AV is bringing ethics to city hall, as MUCH "ethics" as your money can buy.
Lets hope the 2nd 100 days is JUST a "profitable."

Just when we though the ADV crowd fell off the face of the earth.

Least attention of any CD14 post yet -- it's always more fun to trash AV (on the other thread).
