Radio Jesus

Back in July, we reported that Jesus was supposed to arrive in Echo Park one day, at least that's what a flyer in town was claiming. To the best of our knowledge, he never made it.

But Jesus does show up every Sunday morning, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on KFI Radi0, 640 AM. The Messiah gladly takes listener calls giving insight on everything from scripture to morals to life issues. I happened to catch the Almighty's program myself earlier this morning.

Jesus is actually "played" by longtime station management executive, Neil Saavedra, who has studied Christianity and the Bible extensively and seems well poised to answer just about any question callers may throw at him. Saavedra never mentions his own name, but during the show goes by Jesus Christ.

As you can imagine, the show is very controversial amongst various religous groups. Catholic Answers, an evangelical Catholic website and radio program is critical of the program. They say "Why give the Catholic Church’s answer to questions when you can answer them as Christ himself?"

And you guys thought I had chutzpah pretending to be Mayor Sam!
