CCA Endorsement

LA Observed writes that "The Central City Association—essentially the lobbyist for downtown business interests—has taken another step toward mending fences with the mayor. They bet on the wrong horse and supported Jim Hahn over Villaraigosa, but on Thursday the CCA endorsed Herb Wesson and Jose Huizar for city council in the open 10th and 14th districts."

I'm sure that puts a smile on many of the CD 14 cut & paste crew who have not been given much ammunition as of late.

Another one of those two-edged endorsements. This one, in fact, may actually help Pacheco.

The CCA's "shining" downtown achievement, the Adaptave Re-Use Ordinance, is widely viewed by loft and live-work habitants as punitive to renters. Homeowners are generally oblivious to the org--when they're not cynical about it.

Mailander's post is chueco logic.

This endorsement may be minor, but it's another nail in Pachueco's coffin nonetheless.

The nails must make it quite heavy by now.

Geez, what keen political insight previous poster. People vote for the person they are told to vote for and you need money to do that. You get that money from people that do business with the city.

What keen political insight? People vote for the person they are told to vote for?! You must be a Tony operative. Let's tell these people in the 14th what is good for them, their too stupid to think otherwise - just like Parke is strategizing.

So Antonio has another set of kiss butts help him get Jose endorsed. How sad that the CD14 election is being fixed by our Mayor. Huizar wouldn't have a chance in hell if not for Antonio being so damn controlling. Pacheco has grass root support and Jose didn't do anything to help LAUSD for 4 yrs. parents who vote will remember that.

Go to your CD 14 cafe and ask...

1)Are you voting in the Council District 14 election?

2)Who will you vote for?

Attended a home ownership seminar last night, asked a couple of people this question, Pacheco seems to be on top of this election so far, go and try it...you will be surprised at the results.

It is no surprise if you look at Pacheco's poll that he conducted way back. The numbers are still holding. Where is that Huizar poll that Skelton conducted. I hear the numbers didn't change much despite being a push poll for Huizar. Nick was at Roosevelt High yesterday, guess who those adminstrators and teachers are endorsing? That's right, they wouldn't touch Huizar with a ten foot poll, just look at the state of this largest high school in LAUSD. Kids have to run home to use the bathroom, too bad Huizar's office wasn't around the corner. I wonder if these kids have ever used a $350,000 bathroom.

Attention LAUSD parents,

Take your kids out of public school and put them in private school.

Affordability? Ask the school about financial aid and scholarships?

Send them to Charters schools, anything but LAUSD, you are hurting your child by keeping them in this environment.

Please, the Roosevelt people are not behind Nick. They are supporting Jose.

And, Jose is lucky that Nick is his opponent. Under any other circumstance, AV would not support a guy who: (1) has not distinguished himself on the Board; (2) endorsed Nick over him in the last CD 14 race and (3) fundraised for Hahn in the 2000 mayor's race.

What does this show? AV must really despise Nick.

Richard Fausset said it best in LA Times piece how everyone is really afraid to go against Antonio. Pathetic to have such losers in this city who are actually afraid to speak their minds. However, behind closed doors is a whole different story. They can't stand the little midget Antonio and are patiently waiting for him to fall as he will. When is he ever in city hall doing real work? NEVER he's always out in the streets.

Who is waiting for him to fall? His own staff or what?

Which Roosevelt people are you talking about, the 13 year old volunteers. Take another look, they might be saying they support Huizar - he is their boss, afterall - but their actions sure say they support Nick. Most of these teachers and administrators were around when Nick was in office. They saw his accomplishments firsthand, they were also witness to Huizar's failings, especially at their school.

There was a whole group of teachers at the CD14 debate at Roosevelt standing at the back and were cheering for Nick. They can't stand Jose cause they said he's done nothing for their school. Its the worst overcrowded in the nation. Why were all the new schools that opened this week everywhere else in the city but the Eastside?

No, that's not the same Huizar:

"25-year-olds Jose Aguilar-Alcara and Jose Huizar-Torres, and 22-year-old Alejandro Perez-Ortiz were indicted Wednesday in US District Court on three charges including harboring and transporting illegal immigrants for money."

You've got to remember, Huizar didn't smuggle anybody over - he himself was smuggled over. And probably by Fabian Nunez, he was a well known coyote in Tijuana/San Diego before entering public life.

Fabian Nunez was a coyote? Isn't that illegal, a federal crime?

No wonder he wants to legalize everyone.

Yeah, I bet there'll be people wanting to talk about Fabian's coyote past. I can see the papers now, "Si, I am illegal and Fabian brought me over. He charged me $1500 and kept me in a room with bars until my family could come up with the money. Can I still stay in the U.S.?"

Just like drug dealers and prostitutes, coyotes don't have to worry about their clientele ratting them out.

Tom Topping runs the Boulevard Sentinel, a paper smack between avant-garde and kitsch, that covers stuff in CD Catorce and Mt. Washington.

I did a post on him about two weeks ago, here.

If Tom is 80 Watches, I'd find it highly ironic, having named a blog for "him." But I really doubt if Tom is 80W. He's mostly an Eagle Rock boulevardier.

Let's see if Tom Topping and his paper can help . Joseph , think you can help out?

If anyone in Eagle Rock wants to Help send me an email at latowncrier@latowncrier.com

articel with picture at the debate last month

you gotta love it. this shows how objective and fair in his writings Tom Topping can be. I am impressed. Seriously. So he kind of went easy . Many of us here in Central City East work very hard to help our neighbors who still find themselves on the street. Yet there is no aknowledgement in the 14th Council district that Central City East is both in cd 9 and CD 14.

I had a bad day that day . It was after we found out Ernest adams , who lived under the 3rd street tunnel in Downtown had been bashed in the head. I submitted my questions about how the candidates would deal with homelessness , yet these questions and many others from the public were not asked .

I was so angry and uspset at Boyle heights neighborhood council and the moderators I wanted to boycott Boyle Heights businesses. Since thier chamber of commerce had sponsored the debate.

Well it's too bad that Jose Huizar has been endorsed by big Downtown business interests.

I am an honorary member of the CCA , objectively speaking , it is not good to have somone who is claiming to represent local home owner intersets getting money from the boosters of the adaptive reuse ordinance .

I myself do not have a problem with Downtown Los angeles , the areas between the freeways , increasing it's density , but it is the single family dwelling neighborhoods which are becoming an endangered species which need to be preserved. Complete gentrification and increasing density is not a good thing for these neighborhoods. It will destroy their quality oof life , on the other hand , Downtown aro is improving our quality of life.

The moderator at the Boyle Heights debate is not on the Chamber or Neighborhood Council. There were questions raised after the debate by the NC and Chamber why certain questions that people submitted were not asked. The moderator was a Huizar supporter. My thinking is the questions were too hard for Jose to answer and the moderator didn't want him to look badly.
