We Gave You Trains, and Now Planes
In addition to the MTA chairmanship, MEAV now weighs in on the Van Nuys airport, stage 2 jets in particular. From the Daily News:
Moving quickly to fulfill a promise to San Fernando Valley voters, Mayor-elect Antonio Villaraigosa asked Wednesday for a legal opinion on whether the city can stop noisy jets from using Van Nuys Airport.
"I think it's important to explore whether we have the legal authority to stop these jets or not," Villaraigosa said.
We already know MEAV's thoughts on LAX. We also know he supports a regional approach.
Here's the rub. Where do the stage 2 jets go? If the ruling stands for Van Nuys, would it not to stand for LAX, Ontario, and even Palmdale?

Gerald Silver and Don Schultz are hurting the economic opportunity the valley could have with the airport so a bunch of old farts can sleep a little better in their dying days. This is one reason the Valley is becoming the third world hell hole it is today.
Think of the industry that would locate here if you could have United Express or other regional providers fly into Van Nuys from other points in California, Las Vegas, etc. like other cities do. Van Nuys could totally handle it, but if it were left to Silver and Schultz, the airoprt would be a giant dog park.

Mayor Sam's comments tell me a lot. Commercial aviation can go to Palmdale, Burbank, Ontario and LAX while VNY serves our general aviation needs. Despite the fact that far fewer jets are based at Van Nuys and there are far fewer jets taking off and landing on an annual basis, we need to further reduce noise and air pollution. Its a simple quality of life issue. Learn to live with each other to the best of your abilities. Its a gawd damn marriage. Never mind the Silver's and Schultz's of the Valley. Sure we may disagree many times, but this is a seriou issue for south valley residents. Sounds like a bitter Mayor Sam who used to have to work or live with these folks some years ago.

We're going to lose business in the Valley if you kill off Van Nuys. We should be like Orange County, instead, we've become Calcutta.
We'll continue to become a ring of wealthy folks surrounding a third world island of extremely poor folks.
Just so old biddies in Studio City can never hear a plane. Screw that!

The Airport does not have to do with that...we are shipping manufacturing jobs and high-tech jobs from the Valley to everywhere while the dumb shits in the City continue to construct retail in hopes of getting more sales tax revenue. That's one reason we are going downhill. We are losing middle class jobs.
The Airport contributes to the Valley and City, but reducing noise (not closing the airport; just getting ride of 30 stage 2 jets) is what people are asking for. Those who want to see the airport go are nuts. It's vital to many industries in the Los Angeles area.

Dumbshit - a lot of business people and freight fly in and out of that airport and its far more convenient to the West Valley than Burbank or LAX. Practically every shit ass little city in the county has a general aviation airport.

Hey dumbshit...freight doesn't fly out of Van Nuys. It's only general aviation (Gulfstream, etc)

Van Nuys Airport (VNY) generates, attracts and supports economic activity in the San Fernando Valley and throughout Southern California. Although not a commercial passenger facility, business travelers and tourists using private, corporate and charter aircraft benefit from the airport's urban location and proximity to city business centers.
An economic impact study released in 1999 found Van Nuys Airport attracts both aviation and non-aviation related businesses to the San Fernando Valley. Annually, the airport contributes around $1.2 billion dollars to the Southern California economy, creates 10,027 jobs and generates an earnings impact of $273 million. Van Nuys Airport is a tax generator rather than a tax user. The facility does not receive local tax dollars toward its operation, but is financed entirely by revenues from lease, rental and user fees. Los Angeles World Airports, as owner and operator, leases space to a variety of tenants who provide aviation and non-aviation related services. In doing so, the airport generates $73 million in state and local taxes annually.
Approximately 312,700 visitors per year fly into the region via Van Nuys Airport. These visitors require local transportation, meals and accommodations. Many are corporate executives who make considerable expenditures while in the Los Angeles area. The average expenditure per visitor is $309 dollars, resulting in $96.7 million per year.
Van Nuys Airport is a focal point for business and industry in the San Fernando Valley. Six major fixed base operators and numerous aviation service companies are located at VNY. These firms provide fuel sales, hangars, tiedown areas, sales and service for aircraft manufacturers, flight and ground school instruction, and air taxi and charter service.
Several non-aviation related businesses also are located on airport property, including the Airtel Plaza Hotel, Home Depot, a golf course complex, and several restaurants.

Antonio sure has his hands full already and he's not even in office officially yet. He has the hotel strike, racial tensions in high schools, traffic problems, port problems, LAX expansion, looks like the blacks may act up again after Baca's shooting policy decision and so on. What a way to start!

that floating airport thing gives me a good idea where we should put CD14

Is it Richard the 1st or Richard the 2nd. So who has the insider dope (no pun intended)?? Will AV appoint Richard Katz or Richard Alatorre to the MTA Board to help him out?

van nuys airport management is a joke! the current manager can't fart without the permission of lax dummies.so much vacant land that could be used to develope more aviation jobs and in turn tax revenue for the city. its a no brainer. put some one in charge to manage the airport and develope it , a glorified clerk at the helm dosent cut it. hopefully the new mayor will do the right thing and get the ball rolling. in regards to palmdale, well another no brainer-expand that little shack lawa calls a terminal and place a modern terminal that can at least handle a 737 coming in. if you build it they will come!

i've been a pilot at van nuys ever since it was a dirt field and believe me things there are going down hill! the airport looks like a second rate junk yard. empty buildings, vacant land that could be developed. is hurts me to see this every day i fly. at monthly meetings the same old van nuys management staff arrives and gives the same old song and dance. the current airport manager is over her head. no aviation experience, all we know of her is that she is a management puppet for lax and has no say so about any thing at van nuys. and to make tings worse those self imposed enforcers that drive the white operations cars a big fools. they treat the tenants like dirt. these self imposed ramp storm troopers think they could do what ever they want to us!
the airport cops are nice people and always say hello and help us out. im glad i voted to keep them around. hopefully the mayor will see the injustice at van nuys and send in a real team to resolve the land use. thank you for tis oportunity and god bless america.

Its funny that this has come up again, and again and again. Thee problem at VNY is the idiots in the white cars. Before operations showed about 3 years ago there wasnt any problems. Well I wont say any. Of course there is the puppet that runs (if thats what you can call what she does) VNY. Many of us that have spent many years fighting LAX for the needs of VNY never had a real problem until Brandon and his commandos showed up. The way they operate you would think that we are the bad guys. You cant do this, dont do that. Now those morons have the airport closed and we cant fly at night. What is this. They waste money on everything. Thank god for the new police that have come in. Curtis Thompson was so hard to work with on anything and we could never get our issues looked at. The only thing he ever did was screw every female that walked by. He tried to rule the airport from the second floor of the Airtel Plaza Hotel with his PR girl he tooled around everywhere. heard her hubby was a bit pissed about that by the way. Lets start making managment changes instead of policy changes. We dont need anymore BS operations policies! The only good thing that we have seen here are all the new cops from LAX. Lets hope that the new cops from LAX slowly phase out the old crustys! N34HJ OUT!

Ahhh, Ops 26 if only you were representing Ops. we all know there a few rebel Ops guys and gal. but you are the outcast to the Nazi's - it isn't any big secret. Isn't it one of them that commonly refer to us as the inmates? They think of themselves as the guards to enforce whatever rules they make up. why bother asking us for our input - we are only scum in their minds.
